Chapter 3

A Hardly Peaceful Evening

~-~

Kagome walked into the dining room carefully, as if there were wild monkeys about to attack. Everyone was seated in their normal seats on the mats, Sesshomaru on the end, Inuyasha to his right, Miroku to Inuyasha's right, Sango across from Miroku, and an old woman across from Sesshomaru. Kagome didn't know where to sit because the only seat vacant was across from Inuyasha, which was directly to Sesshomaru's left, so she just stood and looked at them, but they stared back at her. Surely she was not worthy of sitting directly left of the Leader of the Chosen. They stayed like that for awhile before the old woman spoke

"Go on child, sit across from Inuyasha." Kagome nodded obediently and did what she was told. The woman picked up her chopsticks and took a bite, and then the others followed suit. Kagome unsure of what to do, picked up the chopsticks and began after everyone else. Every one was quiet until the old lady spoke

"Ye may speak now, I and done pondering." Then everyone but Sesshomaru and Kagome started chattering.

"Miroku no baka! I can't believe you were so rude as to say that to Sango!" burst Inuyasha

"Really Inuyasha, I don't think he meant it," argued Sango

"Inuyasha I can't believe you would accuse me of saying any such thing to Sango!" exclaimed Miroku.

"I was there and you specifically asked Sango if she would bear her child, again!" Inuyasha went on.

Kagome froze when she felt a bare toe rub against her thigh, and then move up toward her hip.

"You sick BASTARD!!!!" screamed Kagome throwing the bowl of rice she was eating in Miroku's face, her chopsticks readied in a jab position to draw blood if he tried anything again. Everyone stopped what he or she was doing to stare at Kagome. The bowl of rice cracked into three pieces and fell into Miroku's lap, the rice holding shape for a moment and then some of it falling off into his bowl. Kagome realized that she was receiving stares from everyone, and put the chopsticks down. She picked up her spoon and started on the soup, her eyebrow still twitching in agitation.

"Wow, Kagome, that was really amazing. I've never seen anyone get so close to punishing that hentai monk as he should be, but what he did to Sango was this morning." Said Inuyasha slightly stunned returning to his food.

"You want the soup, Inu?" asked Kagome, lifting the soup bowl higher and turning it slightly his way, then bringing it back down to were it was. "F.y.i. Inu, that kijisama just groped me with his toe!" she added now livid. Inuyasha's eyes widened slightly but then returned to normal

"Oh, well in that case," said Inuyasha turning to the rice-covered monk and flicking him in the temple. Sango did the same to his other side and he looked as if he was about to pass out but he shook his head and brushed the remaining rice off his face.

"My deepest apologies Kagome-sama, but I believe that I was not the one who just did that to you." Said Miroku slowly

"Th-then who did?" sputtered Kagome looking around the table

"Excuse me if I'm incorrect, but could it have been Inuyasha?" asked Miroku carefully

"WHAT?!?!?!?" yelled Inuyasha blushing. Miroku held his hands up defensively

"I-it was just a theory, since you are the closest one to her and are directly across from her." Said Miroku quickly, his voice cracking. Inuyasha opened his mouth to protest but Kagome spoke first

"Wait!" yelled Kagome, "Miroku has a point, and I agree with his thoughts. Sorry Miroku, I jumped to conclusions and I regret my reaction." She apologized to Miroku. "As for you," Kagome said to turning to the hanyou across from her, "You should be ashamed for doing that to me and making me believe it was Miroku. Now, BLEED!!!!" said Kagome, her voice rising until she screamed the last word. She picked up a chopstick and infused some of her miko powers in it, then threw it at Inuyasha's shoulder. The chopstick hit it's target and it threw him to the wall behind him.

"Kusosonofabitchgoddamnitohshitholyfuckdamnowowowowowowowowow!!! !!!!!!!!!!" yelled Inuyasha trying to remove the stick with his hand only to get his hand burned. Kagome smirked and stood. She meandered over to the hanyou screaming swearwords and trying in vain to remove the chopstick from his shoulder.

"Admit it was you," said Kagome kneeling before him and looking into his fury and pain filled eyes

"What?" yelled Inuyasha

"You heard me, I said admit that it was you who did that to my leg," repeated Kagome leaning toward his face

"No! I'll never admit to it!" yelled Inuyasha struggling and then blowing on his shoulder.

"You just did, in a way at least." Said Kagome taking his hand off the eating utensil and placing it in his lap, then grabbing the chopstick and making it vanish. Inuyasha fell to an unceremoniously to the floor. And grabbed his bleeding shoulder

"What the hell did you do that for bitch!!!!" yelled Inuyasha

"Well, why did you do that to my leg then?" Kagome yelled back.

"No one sits there normally and I was just stretching my legs as I normally do." Inuyasha yelled back at her

"I don't believe you!" yelled Kagome stalking off back to her spot and sitting down.

"May I please be excused-?" Kagome asked the old lady who she believed to be head of the family.

"Kaede, yes dear," said the woman sadly

"Arigato Kaede-sama," said Kagome fuming, picking up her bowl of soup, the remaining chopstick, the spoon, and her cup, taking them to kitchen and putting them in the dishwasher. Then she stomped off to her room. When they were all sure she was gone, Sesshomaru spoke,

"She seemed to fit in just fine Kaede-babaa," he said looking up from the book he was reading.

"Yes, she did seem to," said Kaede sadly

"She needs an attitude adjustment," said Inuyasha nursing his wounds

"I'm going to go talk to her," said Sango, speaking for the second time during the meal, and standing up to take her things to the kitchen as Kagome did. She walked off after Kagome in hope to comfort her.

"Hey, Kagome, you in here?" asked Sango quietly

Recognizing her voice, Kagome allowed her entry "Hai, Sango, you can come in," Sango slid the door open to see Kagome practicing fighting

"Hey, you're really good," said Sango

"Arigato," grunted Kagome between offensive moves

"Hey, you want to fight me? I mean, you don't have to if you don't want, but it would be fun. We put healing medicine in sleeping darts we gave you, so you should be at full strength now." Sango rambled on while gauging her skills

"Sure, if your ready to get beat," said Kagome jokingly and stopped her practicing

"You wish," said Sango playing also. "Just hold on a moment and I'll get you a reverse-blade sword so you don't kill me, or your self," Said Sango walking out of the room.

"Hey, what was that supposed to mean?" Kagome called after Sango. She shrugged and tightened the strings on her arms and legs, readying herself for a fight

"Here you go," said Sango returning to the room with two identical swords and throwing one at Kagome

"So this is a reverse-blade sword," said Kagome as she stuck at her side and unsheathed it, admiring it

"Hai, they're pretty cool aren't they," Said Sango unsheathing her own

"So, lets get started," said Kagome cooly taking her stance, and sheathing the sword again

"Ya, I agree," said Sango sheathing her sword also and placed her hand on the hilt, ready to draw on the count of three

"On the count of three," said Kagome flicking it with her thumb, slightly removing the sword as to have better drawing time, Sango followed pursuit.

"One…two…three!" the two said in unison drawing at the exact moment. Sango was the first to attack, jumping forward and lunged for Kagome's lower body, but Kagome disappeared, materializing behind her back as she passed by, ready to leave her trademark slash on her. Sango brought her sword over her head, and turning the tip downwards, protected her back.

As soon as Sango landed she was turned around and blocked rapid lunges and swipes from Kagome's sword.

`This reverse-blade sword is heavier that my normal one, my attacks are slower than normal.' Thought Kagome parrying a stab to the right, left, and center.

Meanwhile in the dining room-

"God damn that wench! Thanks to her, my arm will be useless for at least three days or so!" said Inuyasha angrily. Miroku patted his arm to soothe his anger, but instead, Inuyasha cried out in pain and fell to the floor writhing.

"Oh, Inuyasha! I'm I deeply deeply sorry," said Miroku rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment

"Ya, sure, houshi. You didn't mean to WACK ME IN MY INJURED ARM!!!! QUIT PICKING ON ME!!!!" yelled Inuyasha obviously beyond angry because of the pain, sitting up and brandishing a fist in Miroku's face

"I am sincerely sorry, I really am! And if it hurts that much you should fix it," said Miroku waving his hands up in self-defense and to calm Inuyasha down. Inuyasha felt a hand on his head, and then heard Sesshomaru's voice

"Inuyasha, calm yourself. I believe you should go speak with Kagome. You both need to apologize." He said, his voice betraying none of his amusement. His face stayed as unreadable as his voice

"Go fuck yourself in Hell Sesshomaru," said Inuyasha dully, but standing and following his elder brother's orders, knowing that if he didn't, it would be hell to pay.

Inuyasha walked down the hall casually and stopped at the door of Kagome's door. He was about to slide the door open, but he heard swords clashing, and every now and then grunts and what sounded like battle cries.

"What the hell?" asked Inuyasha withdrawing his hand for a moment, and then sliding the door open quickly, but silently. He saw Kagome running towards Sango, her sword diagonal across her body, one hand on the hilt and the other on one side of the sword, supporting it. At the last moment, Kagome changed the position from diagonal to horizontal and thrust upwards at her throat. Sango some how was able to block the attack, but not fully. The edge of the blade grazed her cheek and she jumped back to avoid further damage.

"I underestimated your skills," Sango said smiling, spearing the blood on her cheek with the back of her hand. Then assuming a defensive position, she ran at Kagome, both hands on the hilt. She raised the sword above her head and came down at full force. Kagome blocked this attack, but was not fast enough to defend against the lightening like jab with the hilt of Sango's sword to her stomach that followed. Kagome was thrown at the wall by the force of the attack. Kagome got up and started to attack, but she stumbled and fell the floor.

"Kagome!" exclaimed Sango running to her aid.

"Hey, good fight Sango," Kagome said happily, getting up onto one knee while leaning on her sword for support. She struggled to the standing position and sheathed sword.

"I guess that means you win, Sango," Kagome said congratulating her with a pat on the back. Sango returned the favor but stopped when Kagome started to cough. When she brought her hand away, it was soaked with blood.

"Oh, Kagome!" said Sango desperately, withdrawing her hand from Kagome's back

"Oh yuck! I hate the taste of blood!" said Kagome wiping her hand on her butt and ignoring Sango's worried questions. Despite all her efforts to keep it in, Kagome coughed again and a trickle of blood found it's way from the corner of her lips. Kagome took a deep breath and wiped the blood from her hand again. She was about to reassure Sango who supported that she was alright, but a voice cut her off

"Oi, Kagome, daijobu desu ka?" asked Inuyasha from the doorway, making both the girls jump and look up, and startling Kagome into another coughing fit.

"Yes, yes. All of you, I'm fine. I just need to rest, that's all. Hey, how long were you there? Long enough huh? " Said Kagome almost exasperatedly, regaining her composure

"No you're not!" said Sango angrily; "We need to get you to Kaede as soon as possible." She nodded to Inuyasha "Pick her up, and bring her to Kaede." she told the hanyou in the doorway.

"What?" Kagome yelled. "I think I can walk thank you very much if you insist that I have to go to Kaede. Plus, you were hurt too Sango! Is your cheek ok?"

"Do not argue with me, Kagome. Yes, my cheek will heal." Said Sango with her you-will-do-what-I-tell-you-or-else look, and aimed it at both Inuyasha and Kagome

"Fine, but you owe me one, Sango!" said Inuyasha with a humph and walked over to where the girls stood.

"You can tell me why you were standing there after we get Kagome's bleeding to stop." Sango said letting go of Kagome and walking off to go to Kaede.

"Here, climb on." Said Inuyasha bending down slightly and pushing Kagome on to his back. "Oh, try not bleed on me, and don't touch the shoulder," said Inuyasha jokingly, but winced when Kagome placed her hand on his shoulder

"Fuck off, AND PUT ME DOWN!!!!" said Kagome yelled, flicking the hole in his shoulder. Inuyasha screeched and almost dropped the girl

"Hey, watch out! You're going to drop me!" Kagome exclaimed, holding on to his head with her arms and blocking his vision, but then going into another coughing fit

"Agggrrrhhhh! Don't touch the shoulder! You're the one who made all this happen, not me!" yelled Inuyasha, his right arm hanging at his side. Kagome eyed his shoulder and suddenly felt guilty.

"I-I'm sorry Inuyasha," said Kagome quietly looking down. He wondered what was with the sudden change in mood, but let is slide until he smelled a salty sweat smell filled with sadness and regret.

"Hey, why are you crying?" asked Inuyasha, all the agitation gone from his voice

"I's all my fault that you're hurt, and that Sango will get a scar on her face." Said Kagome between coughs and sobs.

"Don't cry, it's nobody's fault." Said Inuyasha soothingly turning his head to look at her

"Yes, it is!" cried Kagome in denial

"No it's not, quit saying that!" Commanded Inuyasha angrily, and then sighed. "You did over do it a little with the chopstick, but I'll be ok." The teen said in defeat

"I'm so sorry!" sobbed Kagome hugging his back and burying her face in the back of his neck.

"Shhhhh, it's ok. We're almost to Kaede so you have to calm down or you won't be able to heal." Inuyasha almost cooed, trying to quiet her. She stopped sobbing, but kept coughing until she went completely quiet.

"Hey, you still with us Kag?" asked Inuyasha quietly. When he got no reply he jumped slightly. She coughed a bit, but did not speak

"Oi, Kagome, wake up." Said Inuyasha making a sharp turn, but she still stayed silent. He felt her grip around his chest loosen and then go away altogether

"Kagome! I said WAKE UP!" yelled Inuyasha jumping up and down holding her to his back with his good arm. She tensed and then started to cough.

"W-what happened? Inuyasha?" said Kagome said sleepily when she stopped coughing

"Good, I thought you had died. You sill have your job to complete." Said Inuyasha as if he didn't care if she was alive or not, as long as she completed her task.

"Fuck you Inu. Are we there yet? We've been walking for about five minutes now," said Kagome impatiently.

"Yea, it's just down the hallway. You know it is kind of hard to walk quickly with an injured shoulder and a person." Said Inuyasha cockily. Kagome humphed and blew on the back of his neck. He shivered and protested by putting his head back and covering most of his neck.

"That always works on my friend's dog when he doesn't act right. Stops him every time." Said Kagome all-knowingly and satisfied.

"Hey what's that supposed to mean?" whined Inuyasha. Kagome was about to respond, but Kaede spoke first.

"Quit quarreling and get in here so I may treat Kagome's wounds." The two were silenced and Inuyasha stalked in the room. He basically dropped Kagome on the bed and stopped out of the room.

"Inuyasha, where do you think you're going?" asked a feminine voice from behind him in the hall. He froze and turned on his heal to find an agitated Sango standing before him, tapping her foot with her arms crossed, and her fingers rapping just above her elbow. Her cheek was bandaged as well as her hand, one of the many cuts that she had all over her body.

"Uh, out?" said Inuyasha almost as a question.

"No. You're going to tell me why you were standing there in the first place? How much did you see? I'm sure you saw Kagome's fighting skills, did you not?" Sango asked quickly

"Whoa, slow down. I was there for only a short while, I saw a lot and I must say I was impressed with Kagome's skills. You even had to use your best technique to defeat her. Was that not your trademark technique when you were that demon slayer in Kawagoe?" Inuyasha said smugly

"Yes," Sango sighed. "it was. But I'm not a slayer anymore so don't bring it up. Plus, you changed the subject on me. Why were you there in the first place?" Sango asked suspiciously.

"I was there because Sesshomaru told me to," said Inuyasha annoyed "Keh, that stupid human girl." Inuyasha turned around and started to walk off.

"That's what you called Kikyo," said Sango quietly

"DON'T SAY HER NAME!" yelled Inuyasha "As long as I remember the pain of the arrow that she pierced my chest with all those years ago, then I can never forgive her." He said quietly more to himself that to Sango. He turned and walked off. Sango sighed and went to go check on Kagome. When she entered the room, she saw Kagome sleeping peacefully with Kaede stirring some type of liquid medication over a fire.

"How is Kagome," asked Sango trying not to disturb the sleeping girl.

"Sango? I did not sense ye come in. No matter, Kagome will be-" Kaede said in response but was cut off by another voice.

"Fine, I'll be just fine. But thanks for worrying." Said Kagome sitting up. "Kaede healed me with her miko power. Can you teach me to do things like that?" Kagome asked Kaede

"Oh good, thou has awakened," said Kaede in a relieved voice

"Hai, demo, can you teach me to do things with my power other than infuse it into wooden objects?" Kagome asked slightly impatient

"Yes, I suppose I could. But the training is harsh," said Kaede sighing

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Said Kagome leaping up and dancing around, avoiding the clutter of plants and other such healing items. "I feel better that I have in years!" exclaimed Kagome

"Yes, that was to be expected. Your powers have been restored, and ye will feel very nice until you use them." Said Kaede shaking her head

"Who are you and what have you done with the old Kagome?" asked Sango sarcastically

"Oh lighten up Sango! You're just jealous," said Kagome still dancing around

"Come here and I will give you your first lesson," said Kaede beckoning Kagome to her.

"Ok!" said Kagome excitedly skipping to Kaede, making a sharp turn around a table.

"I would like to see you infuse some of your power into an arrow," Kaede said taking a quiver of arrows off the wall and then the bow that went with it.

"Hai!" Kagome said taking the quiver of arrows from Kaede

"Wait, we shall go outside. I would also like to evaluate your archery skills." Kaede said starting toward the door toward the out side world.

"Okie dokie!" Kagome sang and skipped towards the door. Once outside, Kaede picked a flower and rubbed its juices onto the bark of a tree, creating a spot of red that she instructed Kagome to aim at.
