InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Moving Up in the World ❯ Working like a dog! ( Chapter 7 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Okay a few notes here.

I know this is short but each and every word I typed caused me inner conflict in this chapter so I just had to get it out there.

This chapter starts out kind of what I like to think of as touchy feely and then goes into what I like to think is hilarious, or at least amusing I hope.

Owlman114- check my profile for my detailed (yet somewhat confusing) explanation on your question.

I am sorry that this will go on into two chapters but that just has to be. I'm really proud of the last bit as far as my writing goes. I was feeling very unwilling about the first part and refuse to even reread it again. I am sorry that I am neglecting my fanfiction reading and reviewing duties and even my thank you's but you see my interests go around on a little Ferris wheel. And right now I am not reading any fanfiction (other than Thread Bound which simply rocks and is the ultimate in fanfiction glory) I am not thanking everyone personally. I am not even watching the new episodes of Inuyasha for some reason or another. I know that's treason to Inuyasha fandom but Saturday is an inconvenient time for me and thus my interest in all that is Inuyasha has plummeted. The only thing I have continued is writing this (lucky for you huh?). Eventually I will fall back into the depthless pit that is my love for all Inuyasha and you will see me thanking more and reading your stories. Don't worry I will come around, I always do.

"Tomorrow?" Rin gulped and swallowed her gum.

"Yes, Is there a problem?" Sesshoumaru asked indifferently. Though he wondered if she was scared of him.

"No- no problem at all." She said quickly. She thought to herself that it would be awful to not do as he wished after all this generosity.

"Is this your first job Rin? You are too young to have worked for long. How old are you anyway?" Inutaisho asked over a bowl of ramen.

"Well, I am nearly seventeen… I think." She replied slowly. Her eyes filled with an emotion Sesshoumaru didn't understand. It seemed like… pain, though he could see she was in no physical duress. Inutaisho let off her since it seemed such a tender subject.

"So… first job?" Inutaisho attempted to get her onto something that didn't cause her to freeze up like that.

"Well, yes I suppose. This is my first real job." She had worked for Kohaku a couple of times but that was for food so it didn't count.

"Hmm." Inutaisho wondered what kind of girl she really was but his careless nature took over soon enough. "I hope Sesshoumaru won't work you like a dog."

"I will work her as hard as the job requires." Sesshoumaru asserted himself into the conversation.

"Of course, feel free to fire me, surely there are those more suited to the task of being your assistant." She said as she averted her eyes to the floor. Sesshoumaru could not tell what she was feeling again.

"Do you truly wish to take the job? Is it desirable to you?" He tried to soften his words for the sensitive girl. She looked up slowly and smiled with a gleam in her eyes.

"Oh, of course. I have always dreamed of going up in one of those brilliant towers. And I truly wish to work for you and to continue to be with you… and your family." She added the last bit with a blush.

"Then you may do so. You will do fine on the job. Just stay out of the way and help me with the best of your knowledge, I will do the rest." She smiled thankfully.

"There you go everybody is happy." Inutaisho remarked.

"What will I be doing?" She asked curiously.

"Well…you could answer phones and…keep Jakken of my back. Ha, that should be enough to fill your time up right there." He smirked at his last sentiment.

"Who is Jakken?" Rin asked.

"Oh, he is the toad. You will remember him from the bus. If not you will meet him soon enough." Inutaisho said while laughing.

"Indeed he is horrible." Sesshoumaru said.

"Why can't you fire him?" Rin asked.

"Well he was demoted from your position. But I can't fire him. He has tenure." Inutaisho sighed.

"Hey, whose car is that in the garage? It's a Porsche." Inutaisho asked excitedly.

"Its mine." Sesshoumaru said.

"Yours? You bought it?" Inutaisho asked reverently. "Izayoi won't let me buy anything like that."

"Yes. I have plenty of money, and I decided its time that I become independent. I hope to move out soon." Sesshoumaru dropped the whole bomb at once, he thought it would be best this way.

"I understand. You need to live your own life. You need to be alone and on your own, I felt the same at your age." Inutaisho said, though it was apparent to Rin that there was a deep sadness in his voice.

"Good, I will go to my room now." Sesshoumaru decided it was best he left then and there.

"Night, son" Inutaisho said.

"Night……father." Sesshoumaru said, it was unlike him but he knew it was necessary.

"Hmm, everyone is growing up. Inuyasha is taking responsibility and Sesshoumaru wants to go out on his own. And you miss Rin. You are quite extraordinary." Inutaisho said quietly after Sesshoumaru had gone.

"How so?" she asked.

"Well, you are so innocent, and yet somehow you got to my son. He has never brought a girl home, nonetheless let her stay and hire her. I don't know what it is, but I certainly like it. It is exactly what he needs if he decides to go out on his own."

"Why is that?" she had never seen this deep side of Inutaisho before.

"Well you will be something to anchor him down. Something to keep him from ruling the world."

"Oh, I wouldn't do that." She said.

"Nevermind. We should go to bed, it's late and you have a big day tomorrow."

"Okay, goodnight Mr. Takashi."

"G'night Rin."

Sesshoumaru---------------------------------------------------- -

Sesshoumaru was relieved at how good his father took his news. He had thought that he would say that he had to stay. He decided to log on to his bank account to see if the Porsche had been paid for. He typed in his password and saw that it had indeed been taken out, as well as a lot of other things. He hadn't been to the boutique. Oh yes Rin and Izayoi had. They only spent… 3,264 dollars! How could to women spend that kind of money! He had the money but he still couldn't believe those two could do that kind of damage. He would sympathize with his father next time Izayoi came home from a shopping spree. He decided to just go to bed. Likely tomorrow would be a big day.

Rin------------------------------------------------------------ -

Rin woke up once again in the big soft bed. Once again she realized it was not a dream. For the first time, however, she realized she would be going to work. In a skyscraper nonetheless, as a personal assistant to Sesshoumaru, a rich, gorgeous businessman. Yes, her.

She got up and took a shower. She dried off and walked to her closet. She decided that she should wear something neutral the first day. She picked a light gray skirt that went above her knee, and a matching jacket that was stylishly tight, as Izayoi had picked, and a nice white blouse. Happy with the out fit she went back into the large bathroom and fiddled with her makeup. She put on some mascara after a couple of tries and some blush. She put a tiny bit of gloss on her lips. She blow dried her hair and brushed it out. She finally looked in the mirror. She looked so different than she normally did. She thought she looked prettier than she ever had before. This was a dream come true. Last week she lived on the streets and now here she was. She quickly walked out of her room before she started to cry.

Sesshoumaru---------------------------------------------------- -----------------------

He had awoken early this morning. It couldn't have been worry. There was nothing to worry about; she was just a girl. Today would be simple.

He walked downstairs for breakfast. His father and Izayoi were there.

"Big day huh Sesshoumaru?" Izayoi asked cheerily while stirring a pig pot.

"No, it's just a normal workday for me." He shot her down.

"Well its not for Rin." She said. "I hope you will be nice today."

"I will be how I want to be." He said. Izayoi sighed and continued to stir.

"Hey there she is!" Inutaisho said. "The girl of the day."

Sesshoumaru turned his head and saw that Rin was down early too. He looked at her and realized she looked very different. She was dressed perfectly. She would fit in perfect. Though he noticed her clothes were tighter than he had expected. She was also made up. Though not too much like Yura. He was surprisingly pleased with her look.

Rin noticed Sesshoumaru was looking her up and down she hoped it was not because her look displeased him. He did not seem unhappy though

"What time do we leave?" she asked.

"In about a fifteen minutes." Sesshoumaru answered.

"Would you like breakfast Rin?" Izayoi asked

"No, I think I better not." She answered. She got caught up in conversation and before she knew it she heard Sesshoumaru say her name.

"Rin? Are you ready to go?" he asked again.

"Oh, ok yes of course." She replied anxiously. Izayoi hugged her and sent her out the door.

Sesshoumaru & Rin----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sesshoumaru walked silently out of the regal mansion and down the pathway to the garage. He noticed Rin came out the door a few seconds later looking quite flushed. He pretended not to notice and punched in the code on the garage. The door lifted and revealed his silver Porsche among some other less impressive vehicles. He clicked the unlock button twice and got in the driver's side.

Rin noticed Sesshoumaru got in a very very expensive looking car. He sat and turned on the engine he seemed to be waiting for her. She blushed harder and opened the passenger door. She hoped he didn't mind her sitting next to him but there was no backseat.

Rin seemed flustered. She was obviously nervous. Of what? Him or the job? Both? He supposed it didn't matter. He pulled out of the garage and down the long driveway. Before he pulled into the morning traffic he cranked up the stereo. Rin seemed very amused. It made him feel odd that he was amusing.

Rin was some what amused that Sesshoumaru had turned the stereo. He had seemed to be the kind of person who wouldn't listen to anything but news. It amused her even more that it was `Black Sabbath' that was blaring out of the speakers. She tried to hide her amusement so as to not make him angry.

Sesshoumaru turned this way and that in the way that had been programmed into his mind by countless morning drives before. He noticed that as the drive progresses Rin became more and more jittery.

"What are you nervous about?" he asked indifferently. When she didn't immediately answers he added; "You don't have to tell me, it's not as if I care."

"No, no it's not that I'm nervous. I am more excited than nervous." She said carefully but nonetheless cheerfully.

Sesshoumaru continued the drive in silence other than Ozzy Osbourne's wild singing. It was all too quick that they had reached their destination. He pulled in and parked in the Vice President's marked spot.

"This is it." He said as he unbuckled. (Safety first. n_n)

"Wow." Rin said as she pressed her face up against the windshield to get a better look. Sesshoumaru got out and she grabbed a large yellow backpack he hadn't noticed before.

"What's in that?" he said in his normal cool deep voice.

"Oh, just some essentials Izayoi said I would need. You know, pen, paper, Kleenex, sunscreen." She explained carefully.

"Sunscreen?" he asked bewildered.

"Incase." She replied.

He dropped it and walked towards the tall rotating door as she hefted her `essentials' out of the vehicle. He approached the door slowly so Rin would have time to lug her bag. He wouldn't normally entertain such foolishness, but perhaps she would need some odd things when dealing with Jakken. He put his hand on the push in the rotating door and pushed his way in. he got half way into the lobby when he realized Rin was not with him. She was standing outside right in front of the spinning door looking dumbfounded.

"Come on." He commanded gently.

"I… don't know… how." She said slowly. He took a deep breath and explained.

"See that bar? Walk up to it and push it. Walk with the door and don't get caught in it." She looked at it and walked up to it and gave it an experimental push. A light went off in her eyes. She pushed harder. She went around, once…, twice… she wasn't getting out.

"WHEEE!" shouted as she pushed the door faster and faster. A small crowd had gathered to watch the girl spin round and round. Sesshoumaru massaged his temples.

"Rin, stop." He said stiffly.

"Yes sir. Sorry Sesshoumaru-sama." She stopped lightning quick when he gave the order. He was relieved that at least she was obedient. She exited the door like an expert and followed him like a lamb. It was all to soon that he heard her scream.

"EEEEEEEK! A bug! Kill it! Kill it!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. Sesshoumaru turned to see her smacking Myoga senseless with a flyswatter.

"Rin!" he shouted above her own screams.

"What? She turned calmly to ask him over the squashed little man.

"Rin, that is not a bug, he is a receptionist." Sesshoumaru said calm as can be.

"Oh…I thought…" she said as she peeled the paper-flat man off of the marble floor. "Sorry sir." She apologized to the reeling little man.

"Nevermind it. Lets continue up the elevator." Sesshoumaru wished to remove them from this scene as quickly as possible. They both slipped into the elevator.

"Hey you, kid." Sesshoumaru addressed Shippo. "Go see to Myoga, I can handle the elevator."

"Yes… I'm on it sir." The high voiced little fox ran out of the elevator before Rin had noticed his tail. Sesshoumaru did not even think about what could happen next. He wished he never had to see Yura or Jakken. He didn't want to think of the things that could go wrong there. Rin seemed to be having the time of her life though. Her good mood seemed to alleviate the anger he had been feeling. Today would certainly be a long day.

Rin------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------

The building was incredible. It was the tallest shiniest one. The one she had admired from the park. Sesshoumaru seemed to be in a mood. She was beginning to understand him. This iciness was more uncomfortable than usual. Of course she still adored him, but she couldn't help but wonder what she was doing wrong.

First it was the door. She had not known how to use it, he had helped her but then she ran around in circles. It was so much fun, but Sesshoumaru didn't like it. Apparently he had never spun before. Then when they went in the gorgeous main lobby she saw what seemed to be an insect. Rin didn't think a big bug belonged in a fancy place like that so she went over and started to beat the crap out of it with a flyswatter Izayoi had made her get. When that didn't work she started stomping on him. But then she saw that Sesshoumaru was very displeased and she stopped. He told her that apparently that the insect was a man and not a bug. Oops! She looked down and saw him flat as a pancake beneath her. She tried to peel him up but Sesshoumaru said to leave him. Then they got into the elevator and Sesshoumaru sent the cute fox-boy away. Boy was today gonna be fun

Sesshoumaru---------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------

Sesshoumaru poked the `up' button and the elevator took off. Rin examined the little couch that sat in the elevator. She sat on it and looked up at him questioningly.

"Incase someone feels faint." He said quietly.

"Oh, I… guess I understand." She said though she didn't really.

The ride went quickly and they reached the top before they both knew it. Rin was reluctant to leave the cozy little sofa but she followed Sesshoumaru out into the lush lobby in-between his office and Inuyasha's. He turned around and looked at her.

"This is the ante room. It connects my brother and my offices this is where people come to give messages, deliver packages, or make appointments." He said slowly as she nodded in recognition. "That." He pointed to the scantily clad woman behind the desk. "Is the ante room's receptionist Yura. you will have to talk to her and get information from her to make my appointment list." He walked the twenty feet to stand in front of Yura.

"Yura." he addressed the already avidly listening in woman. "This is my personal assistant. You are to treat her with the utmost respect. She has complete and total authority over you. If she says jump, jump. If I catch you undermining her then you *will* be fired." He said quickly but clearly. He then turned towards the right and started walking away. Rin followed slowly.

"What? But she is only a baby! Fine! But at least I don't have split ends! Has that girl even seen a conditioner bottle? Why if I…" Yura went on furiously till both Sesshoumaru and Rin had gotten inside the door. Sesshoumaru was quite satisfied but Rin was fingering her hair.

"This, is my personal lobby." He explained slowly. "It is where my less important calls come in and where my clients wait." He said, as he looked her dead in the eyes. "It is also where Jakken will be. Thankfully he has been given the day off so you won't have to deal with him until tomorrow." He added with almost a relieved look on his face, except of course there never was a look on his face. "However you will deal with Jakken most often. Jakken tends to be utterly annoying. It will be your duty to keep him from annoying me to the best of your ability."

"I will do my best." Rin said dutifully.

"You will be given complete authority over him as well."

"Wow. Are you sure you think I should?" she asked guilty over all this power.

"Yes, you answer to me and only me. Make sure you know that. Not even Inuyasha has the right to boss you around so make sure he doesn't take advantage of you." Sesshoumaru finished. He then moved elegantly and effortlessly to the door beside the large desk.

They entered into a large room with two desks. The room had plush, chocolate carpet and was partially walled with bookshelves. The rest of the wall was a golden cream color. The room was square with a large cubby with a desk to the left. That desk was facing the right wall with a computer on it and a cushy chair and several file cabinets behind it. It was obviously not in use. The other desk faced the door and was a larger L-shape. It had a computer on it and was surrounded by the bookcases. It was in use but was still bare of any personal items. It had a very large high-backed chair behind it. It also had two much smaller chairs in front of it.

"This, Rin. Is my office. It is where I am nearly always at. It is also where you will be spending most of your time. That." He pointed to the smaller desk facing left. "Will be your desk. It should have everything you will need in it. If it doesn't then you should tell me what you need and I will get it. In this room I will mostly analyze data, write reports, and other things that I can do on my own. I will also take clients in here. For the most part I will allow you to stay during these meetings and make you take notes. Eventually you will become quite good at reading them, but until then it will be practice. Your job will be to answer the phone and run errands as well as to arrange my schedule. Unless you cant handle that. Then I will teach you. Until then you should mostly do your best to make my day easier and stay out of my way. Is that clear?" he said seamlessly without hesitation.

"Yes… yes of course." She said quickly as she had been awed by his speech.

"Well then I have work to do, you can get comfortable at your desk."

"Okay!" she jokingly saluted him and sat at her desk.

Okay I hope you liked it. I realize that might have gotten a little bit confusing. Also there are probably little bits here and there that don't add up. Get over them because I refuse to reread all 20,000+ words again. I know this chapter may be a bit much to swallow but I want to move things along so I can get to the good part. I decided to cut it off there just since it seemed the best. It is sorta awkward but the workday is too long for one chapter. I hope you understood my description of the office. I tried. But I can't describe things so it was kinda screwy. If you didn't get it you can imagine it how you want. I hope you liked it. I love you reviewers!

Please review!

I love you!

Kitkat07

Mythsweet~ I hope I did your idea justice. I may have screwed it up but it still seemed funny to me. I'm no good at judging my own work so god only knows how it actually is. Thank you SO much for the inspiration though. I love you!

Vegita-dias- Purrrrrrrr! I hope you liked my little homage to thread bound there. I felt it was necessary for more than just butt-kissing purposes.

The rest of you~ no don't worry those people aren't extra special (beyond being brilliant authors) its just they…well… okay they are special. But I love EVERYONE who reads this so don't worry.
