Indescribable Feeling
Next time I opened my eyes, I realized it was in the early hours of the morning. I blinked and was relieved that my vision was no longer blurry and I wasn't in anymore pain; the antidote had fully taken effect. I glanced to my side and saw that Rin was curled up in a ball beside my bed, sleeping soundly. I frowned slightly and sat up, looking at her quietly. Thinking, I took the blanket off of myself and placed it over her instead, pulling my hand away when I thought she was stirring. Looking at my hand in confusion about why I just did that, I slowly got up. Ever since she had administered the antidote to me the night before, I had felt… peculiar, for lack of a better term. Shaking the feeling off, I left the room, gently sliding the door closed behind me so I wouldn't wake Rin.
Upon going downstairs, I was confronted by Jaken; I just walked right past him.
“My lord, are you feeling well enough to move about?” he inquired in that annoying, toad-like voice.
“I'm feeling just fine…” I grumbled, glancing around the hallway for my haori, the fur I wore over my shoulder and armor. I turned to look down at Jaken and asked him where they were. I sighed when he said they were upstairs in my room and I went back up to the second floor.
Sliding the door open, I stepped quietly inside so I wouldn't wake Rin and looked around for my haori, armor, and the fur I always wore over my shoulder. Where are they…? My eyes widened when I finally found my haori: Rin was hugging it in her sleep. I slowly approached her and knelt beside her, watching her as she slept. The expression on her face was a peaceful one and there was a gentle smile across her lips. I felt a small smile appear on my face and I felt relaxed as I watched the young woman sleeping under my blanket, holding my haori. My mind wandered to that moment the night before when her lips touched mine and I felt myself get warm once again, even though my fever was completely gone. I placed my hand against my forehead and looked away from Rin, closing my eyes and thinking hard. What's wrong with me…?
“Sesshomaru-sama…?” I thought I felt my heart stop when I heard Rin speak to me and I opened my eyes slightly, glancing at her out of the corner of my left eye. Rin frowned slightly as she asked, “Are you alright?”
“I'm fine, I just…” I started, trying to think up a good lie, “…have a headache…” It was the only thing I could think of.
Rin frowned and sat up, looking at me worriedly. “A headache? Is it a side-effect from the antidote?”
“Maybe, maybe not… Nonetheless, I'll be fine…” I stated quietly, taking my hand away from my forehead and turning my head to look at Rin directly. “How did you sleep?”
“I slept fine, thank you… But I don't remember having a blanket over me when I went to sleep early this morning… Wait… did you…?”
I nodded slightly. “I did… However, it was only to make you more comfortable, that's all…”
“That's what I thought it was anyway, my lord,” stated Rin with a giggle, stretching with a small yawn. “I'm glad you're feeling better, Sesshomaru-sama.”
I said nothing and held my hand out toward Rin, asking, “Now that you're awake, may I have my haori back?” Rin laughed and nodded, handing me my haori; I put it on, searching around for my armor and fur garment.
“You're fur and armor is over there near the door, Sesshomaru-sama,” said Rin, pointing toward the door. I looked to where she was pointing and sure enough I saw the rest of my upper garments. Saying not a word, I put my armor and fur on swiftly, making sure I had everything with me now. Satisfied, I turned and slid the door open.
“Let's go, Rin… We're leaving,” I told Rin without looking at her, leaving the room. I heard her call, “Okay!” to me as I was leaving and thought I felt myself smile again.

We were on our way almost immediately, my childhood home slowly shrinking into the distance as Jaken, Rin, Ah-Un and I walked away from it. I was feeling much better, the bite wounds from the spider demon not sending waves of pain through me any longer. My fever was completely gone and I was able to move freely, as if the venom had never been inside my body. I couldn't help but wonder why Rin insisted on administering the antidote to me rather than letting Yusaro do it. Shrugging off the possibilities, I continued onward silently.
Noticing my silence, Rin started singing softly, apparently trying to brighten the mood. I closed my eyes as she sang, taking in every word, every note… her voice was like the birds I often heard singing in the early hours of the morning… so smooth and soothing… It was just then that I realized how nice her voice really was. But, of course, Jaken had to open his mouth…
“Stop that singing, Rin! Can't you tell it's bothering Sesshomaru-sama?!” he snapped angrily.
Rin stopped temporarily to tell Jaken, “No it's not! I think he likes it!”
“No he doesn't! How could he think fondly of such a thing anyway?”
“Jaken,” I scolded. He stopped speaking immediately. I glanced over my shoulder, glaring at him slightly. “Let her be… She may sing if she wishes to…”
Jaken looked in utter shock. “B-But m'lord! Doesn't it bother you? I was only telling her to stop because—“
“Because it was bothering you, is that not so, Jaken?” I knew that was the true reason Jaken told Rin to stop singing: because it bothered him.
He was utterly silent after that. After I had scolded Jaken, Rin picked up where she had left off in her singing, walking along beside me now. I thoroughly enjoyed her singing, but it didn't show on my face. She was so carefree all the time… something I could never, ever be…
