Chapter Six

Short Tempers, and Mizu no Kuni

The annoying ring of the alarm clock had jarred her out of her sleep, and she cursed when she realized that it was only five thirty. “Why in the hell did the damn thing go off this early? I need at least a little bit more sleep…” She mumbled and snuggled herself into her pillow. She knew that it would go off in about another hour, and that’s exactly what she needed. She WANTED it to go off when the sun rose, that way, she’d be more awake then.

The extra hour of shuteye that she managed to squeeze in came and went too quickly. She dressed quickly, finding a black, high collared shirt and crimson shorts that to her, looked great. Eating a small and quick breakfast of rice and eggs, she walked outside to train. She still had time to spend until she had to meet up with the rest of her team at the bridge.

Panting as she stopped in the middle of a hard kick to the dummy that she was training with, she grinned as she heard a familiar rustling behind her. “Naru-kun, If you really wanted to train so bad with me before we had to meet with Kaka-sensei, you should’ve just said so.” She jumped a bit as instead of Naruto’s joyful voice that she was used to hearing, she heard the cool, calm voice of Sasuke. “You have me mistaken for the dobe.” He murmured and slowly slid into a fighting stance, motioning for her to do the same. “I didn’t know that you knew that I lived around here Sasuke.” She said and slipped easily into her own stance.

“Let’s get this started!” She said gleefully as she lunged straight at him with a kunai in hand. Their kunais connected with a shower of sparks, and Kat smirked as she began to force Sasuke back with an un expecting turn of events. The tables turned on Kat fast as she was knocked off of her feet, and landed on the ground. Sasuke took this opportunity to pin her to the ground. “How are you going to get out of this predicament?” He said and smirked at her. He could see the struggle in her eyes and she almost growled in frustration.

Struggling against Sasuke, her silver hair fanned out underneath her and he couldn’t help but to stop and stare at her for a minute. She’s beautiful. What am I saying? He shook his head to clear his thoughts. Kat smirked as she saw an opening and grabbed his loosening hands and sat up quickly, ready to flip their positions. She was stopped by an indignant screech. One person and one person only could do that. Sakura. “What are you doing to MY Sasuke-kun?!?” She shrieked as she held her hands up to her chest. Both Kat and Sasuke sprung apart, and Sasuke simply said, “It is none of your business, but we were sparring.“

Kat grinned. “You know pinky, he hates it when you call him yours. He doesn’t belong to anyone. You have wild dreams to think that you’re going to marry him.” Sakura fumed. “And you’re saying that you are?” Kat chuckled. “I’m not saying that at all. All I’m saying is that you should leave him alone. It would make you a nicer person to be around. Now please, remove yourself from my property.”

Huffing, she walked swiftly away with dry eyes. I can’t stand that girl!

Kat cursed as she heard the loud ringing of her alarm clock. “Kuso, we gotta go. I’ve set this clock three hours after the designated time that Kaka-sensei had told us to meet us at the bridge. If we don’t hurry, we’ll be late.” Sasuke raised an eyebrow. “then why are you standing there?” Both of them quickly raced off to the bridge that went over the Konoha River, and as they stopped to a halt, they were surprised to see Naruto and Kakashi there. “You two are late. Where have you been?” Kat grinned sheepishly and rubbed the back of her head.

“Sasuke surprised me and we ended up training for a while. It would’ve lasted longer but we remembered that we had to meet up here.” Kakashi seemed to buy that for the moment, and turned towards the three. “”We have a mission you three. Our client is waiting in the Hokage’s office, don’t dawdle.” he disappeared in a plume of smoke and Naruto growled in anger. Kuso! Why does he always do that?!?” Kat chuckled. “Have you forgotten that we have a mission Naruto? Let’s go!”

It didn’t take long for team 7 to arrive at the Hokage’s tower and as Naruto burst through the doorway, Kat shook her head at his actions. “Naruto, calm down! Sandaime-sama, what’s our mission about?” She said happily. Tazuna studied the three and snorted in disapproval. “These three are supposed to escort me back to Mizu no Kuni? Hah, what a waste of time and money.” Naruto was just about fuming at the head, and just as he was about to jump at Tazuna to strangle him, Kakashi grabbed the scruff of his shirt and held him up above the ground. “Naruto, we need Tazuna to stay alive.” He said as he looked up from the Icha Icha Paradise book in his hands.

As he was sat down, he sighed and nodded in agreement. “I guess you’re right Kakashi-sensei…” Kat nodded and patted him on the back. “Jeez, Naruto, you don’t have to rush at everyone that pisses you off…” Sasuke smirked at this. “Dobe, you’re a complete failure.”

Kat grabbed his arm before he could rush at Sasuke. Turning his head, he blinked owlishly as he stared at Kat. “Why’d ya do that for? I would’ve beaten that pompous Uchiha teme!” Kat chuckled softly. “You really knew what you were saying Naruto?” Sasuke smirked at Naruto’s befuddled expression. “Hmph. Loser.” Kat glared at Sasuke and sighed angrily. “Sasuke, wipe that smirk off of your face! This isn’t the time for games!” Kakashi gave Kat a look of appraisal. Tazuna and Kakashi were already out the door, Kat had just noticed this. Glancing up at Sandaime, she waved goodbye and both Naruto and herself ran down the stairs. Noticing that Sasuke was behind them, she turned around and called up to him. “Hey Sasuke! C’mon!” Naruto scowled. “Let’s just leave the bastard, he can catch up with us later.” Glaring at Naruto, she shook her head. “Naru-kun, I’m not going to leave anyone on our team behind….It’s as simple as that.” His eyes narrowed slightly and he sprinted down the rest of the stairs.

Sasuke stopped briefly where Kat was standing and glanced at the silver haired kunoichi. “Where’s the dobe?” She sighed. “He wanted to leave you behind, but I don’t leave anyone behind, even if you could catch up later, and if you could be a real pain in the ass sometimes.” he raised an eyebrow at her. “Let’s go already!” Pulling him down the steps by the hand, she smiled as she saw Kakashi, Naruto, and Tazuna waiting for them. Stopping in mid-step, both Kat and Sasuke winced as a loud squeal of indignance was heard. “What are you doing holding MY Sasuke-kun’s hand?” Both Kat and Sasuke glared coldly at Sakura. “Anything that we do is of no business to you.” With that, the two left the shocked Sakura standing on the steps.

Just as Kat and Sasuke were approaching the group, a kunai was sent barreling toward Kat’s neck from the forest. Quickly grasping one of her own kunai, she blocked it with a sharp hit. Cursing as more kunai and shuriken sped toward her, she let go of Sasuke’s hand and began to dodge, then blocked any projectile that she could that was heading towards her. Watching the tree line with narrowed eyes, Sasuke deflected a kunai that was meant to pierce her neck. Her head spun around and she realized she was back to back with Sasuke. “Thanks.” she said, and returned her attention back to the tree line. “Hn. Enough of this.”

His hands flew through the familiar seals for Katon: Goyakuu no Jutsu and he directed the flames unknowingly toward one of his avid blonde haired fan girls. Kat’s eyes were hard as she flew through the seals for Fuuton: Kaze no Yaiba. Both of their attacks had cut down many trees, and forced their attackers to come out into the open. “Ayyyiiiieeeee!!!!” came Sakura’s loud screech. “My clothes are ruined!!!!! Almost an identical screech, maybe even louder came from the direction that Sasuke was facing. “Oh kami…..no!!! My hair….It’s scorched!!!” Kat had a satisfied smirk on her face as she plucked several kunai and shuriken out of the tree looming behind them. “Come on, we shouldn’t keep them waiting.” She tugged on his hand and both of them walked in amicable silence to where the group was talking.

Kakashi glanced up from his book and noticed with a smirk that Kat and Sasuke were holding hands. “What took you so long you two? And what was that awful racket?” Kat grinned and let go of Sasuke‘s hand. It was just something that we needed to deal with Kaka-sensei. Plus, the rest of these stupid kunoichi aren’t even worthy of being one anyway…”

Sasuke silently agreed. “They’re too interested in boys than being a serious shinobi. Hey Kaka-sensei, shouldn’t we going?” Kat asked. Kakashi nodded. “Hai, we are Kat.” he replied and shouldered his bag on his back.

Glancing at Sasuke and Naruto, she grinned as she saw identical smirks on their faces. “Well, if you two are so eager to fight, you better come on.”

Naruto and Sasuke sprinted forward to catch up with their sensei, teammate, and client. This is going to be interesting…I just know it! Naruto thought.

Three Days later

Walking along the deserted, dry path to mizu, Kat and Sasuke couldn’t help but notice the obvious puddle on the side of the road. Both kat and Sasuke scoffed. Che, It hasn’t rained in weeks…amateurs.

“Hey Kaka-sensei? Do you know what I do when I see a puddle? I throw things in it!!” Kat maniacally said as launched several kunai into the shimmering water. The water bled red and noises of pain came from it. “You can come out now.” Kakashi, Sasuke, and Kat stated flatly. Two ninja, who Kakashi recognized as mist nukenin, appeared on both sides of Kakashi. “Say goodbye to your sensei!!” they snarled, and tore Kakashi’s body apart.

Kat glared at them with hatred and fierce contempt. Her chakra flew around her wildly as he finished the last seal for Fuuton :Kaze no Yaiba. the strength was doubled as it was fueled by her emotions. Sasuke and Naruto saw that she had totally destroyed the trees in front of them, but the missing nins had disappeared. “L-looking for u-uss?” they said on a hiss of pain. Getting impatient, Naruto formed the ram seal and called out “Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!” Ten clones appeared, and as they pulled out a kunai consecutively, the real Naruto stayed behind to protect Tazuna.

Sasuke was getting rather annoyed at these pitiful attacks that the two were throwing around, so he decided to end this. With practice ease, he called out “Katon: Goyakuu no Jutsu” Naruto’s shadow clones jumped out of the way, and kat dodged the attack gracefully.

As the two fell to the ground, bruised and bloody, Kakashi appeared in front of the group with a smile. “good job Sasuke, Kat, Naruto. But, I believe that Tazuna has something to tell us.” Kat stared at Kakashi in anger. “why did you hide yourself from us Kaka-sensei?” He sighed softly. “I wanted to assess you skills, but I wasn’t going to assist unless you needed it.” As the two were talking, Sasuke had tied the Demon Brothers up tightly.

Tazuna stared at Kakashi with a wavering glance. “Alright….I didn’t tell you that our town is being ravaged by Gato, and we hardly have enough money to buy food and necessities. He’s trying his hardest to stop us from finishing building the bridge to the fire country. That’s right. I am building a bridge to connect the Wave Country and the Fire Country to restore prosperity.’ Tazuna began to explain, slightly grinning at the hard work he put in for the design, ‘But one evil man thinks I am in the way of his business dealings. He knows if this bridge is to be completed, his business would go down.”
Kakashi glanced at him sharply. “Gatou; as in the Gatou of The Gatou Industrial Corporation?” Kakashi inquired. He nodded. “That’s the one.”

“This isn’t a C class mission anymore, not with enemy ninja attacking. Why didn’t you tell us this in the first place?” Tazuna shivered. “We didn’t have the money for a B class mission, so we had to say it was a C class instead.”

“Oi, Kakashi-sensei, should we really be doing this?” Naruto asked. Kat and Sasuke stared at him incredulously. “What are you saying Naru-kun? Back down? We’re not going to do that, we’re going to see this mission through.” This got Naruto’s spirits up and he smiled. “Yeah, we’ll beat everyone there!”

Naruto had sprinted off in front of the group and smiled as he caught sight of a pure white snow rabbit. “Hey, look, it’s a rabbit….” Bending over to pick it up, he stood up quickly as it fell over. When the rabbit fell over, an eerie mist slowly rolled in.

“Kirigakure no Jutsu” was the faint whisper and a chuckle was heard through the dense mist. “Heart, liver, lungs, spleen…which should I choose to cut down these weaklings?”

“Duck!” Kakashi said quickly and as they fell to the ground, a large sword flew over their heads and embedded itself into a tree on the other side of the clearing. Getting up, Kakashi’s eyes narrowed as he caught sight of the tall, black haired nukenin. “Momochi Zabuza, demon of the mist…what are you doing here?” Zabuza chuckled. “You will not be allowed to move on.”

“Let’s get this started then…” Kakashi stared at Zabuza coolly and followed him as he disappeared into the mist.

Looking around, Kat sighed. “Well, we could leave Kaka-sensei to deal with Zabuza, but what fun would that be?” The shuffling of feet was heard behind them and the three genin surrounded Tazuna with their kunai out. “Let’s see how you brats can handle this.” Clones rushed at them with swords raised high and the three reacted quickly. Slicing through them with surprising ease, kat glared at the remaining mizu bunshin and destroyed it quickly. “Water clones…” she murmured and grinned slyly. “If you want to play that way….mizu bunshin no jutsu!” she called out softly. Seven clones appeared beside her, and Sasuke watched her in interest. Having the clones surround Tazuna, she nodded to Sasuke and Naruto to scout for any other opponent that they may come across.

Sasuke’s eyes narrowed as he stopped beside Naruto. “Someone else is here….”
Naruto grinned at Sasuke. “Hell, don‘t worry about it Kakashi-sensei will help us.”. The three were finally able to breath again as Kakashi dispersed some of the killer intent. Kakashi was not bothered by the wave sent from Zabuza because he had met fiercer killer intent back when he was older. Even then, his killer intent when at its full, would make someone of a Kage level stutter.

Kakashi’s kunai collided with Zabuza’s sword, and the both of them glared with something akin to hatred at each other. Springing apart, they quickly began a long set of hand seals, and finished at the same time.

“Tora!” They shouted, and in unison, they muttered under their breath “Suiton: Suiryuudan no Jutsu.” Two large dragons rose from the water below them and collided with fierce intensity, and as the water began to settle down, Kakashi and Zabuza began to launch their attacks again.

Standing on the bridge below the battling pair, Sasuke and Naruto gripped the railing as they battled internally to whether they would help their sensei fight, or to sit and watch. But, right now they were getting an itch to fight and it was strong.

Behind his mask, Zabuza smirked. Using his speed he disappeared and reappeared behind Kakashi and chuckled. “Suiton: Suirou no Jutsu.” Kakashi found himself trapped within the swirling ball of water. As Sasuke and Naruto observed this from above, Kat had appeared behind Sasuke with her eyes narrowed. “We have to help him!” She said and grabbed a kunai from her holster. Turning to Sasuke, both of them jumped down and to their amazement, they were standing shakily above the water.

Shaking her head to clear her thoughts she hissed to herself that this wasn’t the time to space out, and quickly began the seals for Fuuton: Kaze no Yaiba. Using this as a distraction, Sasuke quickly sped through the seals for Katon: Goyakuu no Jutsu, and as the fireball sped toward the mist missing-nin, Naruto had created several kage bunshins and launched a kunai toward Zabuza, forcing him to let go of the water prison.

“Damned brats!” Zabuza snarled and went back to his original intention, eliminating Kakashi so that he could finish his job. He cursed as his blade was knocked aside, and Kakashi jumped back. Zabuza’s eyes narrowed at the familiar seals that Kakashi was going through, and he began them as well. Unfortunately for him, he was too slow and the large dragon that had risen out of the water had slammed into him, and the huge wave of water had slammed him against a tree.

Pinning him there with seven kunai, Kakashi turned as he looked down at his pinned adversary. “What…what are you?”

“Your executioner.”
Hearing the air slice, he narrowed his eyes at the figure who had the dead body of Zabuza in his arms. “Thank you for defeating him…He was extremely elusive.” The both of them had disappeared, and Kakashi had found that strange, because a hunter nin would dispose of the body right away.

Naruto, Sasuke, and Kat ran over to Kakashi and stared at him with serious eyes. “Are you alright Kaka-sensei? You look like you can barely walk…” Kakashi sighed. “This isn’t going to be the last time that we see Zabuza or that masked boy.”

“Huh? What do you mean sensei?”

That boy wasn’t truly a hunter-nin, if he was, he would’ve disposed of the body there and then.” falling to his knees, he struggled a bit to get up. Falling back he grinned inwardly. “Used…too much chakra….”

Kat had Naruto quickly go and get Tazuna knowing that he’d need a place to recover.

“We can take ‘em to my place…It’s not too far off…”

Creating several kage bunshins, they all picked up Kakashi and followed Tazuna.

What’s going to happen next time? Kat wondered.
