Chapter Sixteen
A Naru Moment
Sasuke leaned hopelessly against the giant oak tree where his team would meet. The search for Akina was pointless, she was gone. Not even traces of chakra were found. Not a single stick out place within the forests, nothing. It was as if she vanished within thin air, but Sasuke knew better. There was no reason for her to leave, especially without a trace. She was taken.
He secretly faught back tears, covering his face with both his hands. In the back of his mind, different situations were playing back and forth, his heart racing from the worst case scenarios. He shook his head and wiped an escaped tear from under his eye, sniffing loudly.
"S-sasuke?"questioned a gentle version of Naruto's voice.
"Naruto?"replied Sasuke looking rather suprised. "Has anyone found her?" Hope tainted his voice and Naruto felt like shit when he shook his head and noticed Sasuke's facial features.
Naruto sat next to Sasuke, and looked up at the night sky. "I don't know what to do,"Sasuke admitted. "She's my student. What if she's hurt?"
"She's a strong girl,"Naruto spoke with complete honesty.
"SASUKE! NARUTO!"
"Sakura?!"both guys exclaimed in unison.
The pink haired woman landed afront of the two in a crouched position, face grave and breaths ragged. "Come quickly, I found her!"
Sasuke and Naruto looked at eachother before following Sakura. She led them far from the oak tree, off towards the monument where the dead ninja's of Konoha were honored. It was surrounded by at least thirty jounin and chuunins.
"Move it!"Sasuke commanded, shoving some out of his way to get to the young girl. The horror of the image before him made him want to throw up. He shakilly knelt down. Before the girl stood Tsunade, Gaara and Neji, Hinata and Temari also knelt by the girl as Akina's head rested on Temari's lap. The Hazumi sisters all gathered around Akina and looked up with tearful glances at Sasuke.
He lifted Akina from Temari's lap and placed his hand on her face, tears threatening his eyes. Naruto at the moment, noticed that he no longer resembled a mere sensei and student, but and older brother, there to protect the weaker.
"Who found her?"asked Sasuke quietly, darkness overshadowing his eyes.
"I did,"spoke Neji.
Sasuke may not have liked Neji much. But at the moment, so many emotions were flooding through his brain, all he could manage was a cracked, "Thank you."
Neji nodded.
Akina was unconsious in his arms, and she looked mangeled. Blood covered her entire body, staining her clothes and dirt from earlier training and whatever beating she took was in her wounds. Her face was swollen, her eyes turning purple around the outsides. She was so cold, and judging by the multiple wounds, it seemed as if she was stabbed. There was chafings around her wrist and necks, and ankles, judging that she was tied down while shuriken were thrown at her.
She was tortured.
She was beaten.
"W-was she-?"his eyes widened.
"No, thank the heavens,"Sakura replied.
"She was on the brink of death when I found her,"Neji stated.
"We're awaiting more medic-nins. Moving her too much could cause internal damage. She has multiple broken bones, and is currently in a coma."
Sasuke looked at Tsunade with a lump in his throat. "A coma?"
"Her brain was not affected,"Tsunade replied. "All she has to do is heal, and wake up."
On the of the Hazumi's lost it, grabbing into Kakashi who stood there, and cried her eyes out. Kakashi patted her back, welcoming her in a comforting embrace. Iruka stood next to him, tears obvious in his eyes.
A drop fell. Followed by another.
It began to rain when the medic-nins arrived to stabilize Akina's condition. Also arriving on the scene were Team 2 and Team 3, gasping immediately upon the condition of the young girl.
"Alright, back away!"barked Ino. "Sakura! Help!"
"You heard her! Give the medics some room!"Sakura ordered along with her blodn haired friend.
"The posts still stand. Sasuke, get the remainder of your team. We'll keep Akina in close watch,"Tsunade sternly stated leaving no room for argument.
"Come on Sasuke,"Naruto guided.
Sasuke followed without a single word. Shiro and Yuki followed their sensei, also not talking. Riho gave Azusa a worried look, and they followed the jounin.
Tsunade looked down on Akina. "Who could've done this to you."
***
Sasuke leaned against the white walls of the hospital room belonging to Akina. It was raining again that day, typical for that time of the year. But soon it would stop and the sun would reveal itself before another rain. He looked spaced out, looking at a tile on the floor, arms crossed and leg bent at the knee, bracing him against the wall in a more balanced manor.
Hazumi Yuri had also occupied the room, eyes closed and head resting upon the smooth white bedsheets of Akina's bed. The twenty three year old woman still had a flushed face from crying. The other siblings had visited throughout the day, however they had their duties and missions to complete. Yuri, as far as Sasuke could remember, was as kind as she was lovely. She held a pure heart like Akina. Yuri wasn't as close to Akina as the younger siblings, as was to be expected by the elder siblings of the Hazumi Nine. But Sasuke could always recall that whenever Yuri was around, Akina would always smile, she would always act respectful and would almost always try to be just like her. Yuri was like a more refined version of Akina, true and strong. Akina held more flare and youth in herself.
Her luminous green eyes opened slowly, and she awakened from her light slumber with a gentle yawn. She turned to face Sasuke. "Uchiha-sama, you're still here? You must be tired, you've been here all day."
"So haven't you,"Sasuke replied. Yuri cast a tired smile and Sasuke returned it. The woman stood up, posture straight, and held her hands, the left one bandaged from the base of her fingers to her elbow, over Akina's body. Forming several handseals, the womans chakra began to grow stronger.
Chakra began to flow from Yuri's body to Akina's, changing from a light ice blue to a light orange as it touched the youngers chakra. From seemingly nowhere, orchid petals spun out and rested upon the vital chakra points of Akina's body.
"Zenkai no Hana,"spoke Yuri in a firm tone.
"What are you doing?"Sasuke asked out of curiousity, moving foreward.
"I'm transfering my chakra to her body, to sustain balance. However the technique usually takes the chakra of the flower, I altered it to take mine by replacing the rat seal with the rabbit."
"I see,"Sasuke replied. "Isn't that dangerous?"
"I'm willing to take the risk,"Yuri stated.
The door opened attracting the attention revealing several people. Five of them were noticable as Akina's friends and teammates. Shiro looked distraught, holding a basket decorated in oranges and orange blossoms. Yuki had brought a shuriken with an orange ribbon tied to it holding a rather uncomfortable look when he caught sight of Akina. His hand tightened grip upon Aiji's, whose tearstained face was hidden behind a teddy bear she had gotten for her friend.
Sasuke guessed that Yuki and Aiji had finally gotten together. There'll be a lot of girls who will be very sad about that. Riho and Azusa held flowers each. The last one to enter was Naruto. He shut the door behind him and walked in further beside Yuri.
Sasuke noticed that Naruto didn't glance once at him.
This confused and slightly annoyed the Uchiha.

Neji paused in his training, and wiped the sweat from his brow. Walking over to a table where Hinata silently sipped on some orange-pekoe tea, the white eyed man picked up a glass of water and drank it heartilly. With a satisfyied gasp, he set the cup down and turned to continue his training.
"Who do you suppose could've done that to Akina-san?"Hinata asked to Neji.
"I don't know,"Neji stated. "Maybe it's the Unknowns who did it."
"Perhaps,"Hinata agreed. "My question is, why would they do that, and why her?"
"Perhaps they wanted to make an example out of her,"Neji stated, swiftly punching the air in speeds blinding.
"But why her,"Hinata mumbled, persisting in the subject silently to herself.
A knock came to the sliding doors of the room. Hinata lifted her head and stood up, padding over and sliding the door open. She faced a servant who bowed in respects to the Mistress of the House, and her cousin.
"Hinata-sama, there is a visitor here to see Neji-sama,"the servant spoke.
"Send him in,"Hinata ordered in a gentle tone.
She turned to Neji. "I'll be taking my leave."
Neji nodded as his cousin left. He could hear her faintly through the hallway, greeting the guest. Using the Byakugan he saw through the walls and found the face of Naruto. He looked rather troubled.
Neji quickly slipped on his white shirt just as Naruto came in. The blond didn't meet his blank gaze until he had securely shut the door behind him.
"Naruto-san, what brings you here?"Neji asked in his smooth tone.
Naruto looked up.
"There's so much on my mind,"Naruto stated. "I need someone relatively sane to talk to."
"Hn, I see,"Neji replied sitting at the table, here Hinata had occupied moments earlier. Her orange-pekoe tea was still present and giving off a relaxing aroma. "Would you like some tea?"
"No, thank you,"Naruto replied.
"Is this about Akina?"asked Neji.
"Partially,"Naruto stated. "I'm worried about Sasuke."
"Sasuke?"questioned Neji, suprisingly not with a tone of poison but merely curiousity. "What makes you worry about him?"
"His student was attacked, and I don't know, it just worries me of what he could do. He's not exactly one to be predictable."
"No, he's not,"Neji agreed.
"Maybe I will have some tea,"Naruto decided. Neji smiled and stood up, walking over to prepare some tea for his blond infatuation.
It was silent until Neji turned around and set the cup in front of him.
"I wasn't sure if you liked orange-pekoe, it's Hinata-samas favorite and all we have at the moment,"Neji spoke.
"Orange-pekoe is fine,"Naruto smiled.
"Good,"Neji stated. "So, you're worried that Sasuke could so something stupid, like he usually does."
"Yeah,"Naruto stated.
"You don't want this to end up like another Orochimaru deal, where Sasuke goes off, loses all common sense, and becomes rather irrational,"Neji stated.
"Can you read minds?"Naruto asked with a raised eyebrow.
Neji chuckled. "No, it's just obvious to read upon your face. Sometimes I don't know how you put up with Uchiha."
"Sometimes, I don't know either,"Naruto replied with a smile.
"Well,"Neji stated, leaning in.
"Well what?"Naruto asked a blush arriving on his face.
Neji leaned in and caressed Naruto's face with his hand. Naruto didn't move. He just closed his eyes, a light frown upon his features.
Neji enclosed the space between them, brushing his lips against Naruto's. Naruto returned the kiss gently, but then broke away slightly. At that point in time, Neji had a light flush.
"I lied Naruto,"Neji replied.
"What do you mean?"Naruto asked looking up innocently into Neji's eyes. Neji answered the question with a silent kiss. Naruto shook his head with a smile.
"Neji, I have something to tell you."
"I know."

Gaara lowered his gaze upon Temari's words.
"And that's why,"Temari finished.
"I see,"Gaara replied. A moment of silence passed.
"Yo brat,"Kankuro called.
Temari rolled her eyes. "You can always count on Kankuro to ruin the mood." Gaara couldn't help but nod and slightly smile.
"What?"Gaara spoke.
"You have a guest,"Kankuro spoke, hands crossed behind his head, and a lazy pair of eyes starring boredly at the blond haired blue eyed demon container.
"Hi, Gaara,"Naruto waved.
"Naruto-san,"Gaara replied. "You're all wet."
"I'll go and get a towel for you Naruto-san,"Temari bowed her respects and left.
"You walked here in the rain?"Gaara guessed.
"Yes,"Naruto replied. "From Neji's house."
"Neji?"
"I-I had to talk to him about something,"Naruto stated.
"About what?"
"Not about what,"Naruto said. "About who."
"Then whom did you discuss?"Gaara asked.
"Oy, here's a towel, Naruto-san,"Temari stated.
"Thank you Temari,"Naruto took the fluffy white towel and tried off his hair.
"We'll leave you two, to talk,"Temari said, yanking on Kankuros wrist and dragging off the middle sibling. Gaara and Naruto watched silently as they left. When they were out of sight, Gaara spoke up.
"Who were you talking about?"Gaara asked.
"Sasuke."
"What about?"Gaara asked, his tone unlike Neji's, whereas the Hyuuga held mere curiousity, Gaara's held a tint of jealousy.
"I was worried about him,"Naruto said.
"Oh,"Gaara spoke softly. Naruto shivered. "Don't worry about him. He's stronger than he looks, and he's matured from twelve years of age."
"You're right, but I can't help...ah nevermind."
The frown was replaced with a smile.
"Thanks for the words of wisedom Gaara-cookie,"Naruto winked.
The rain paused and a ray of sunshine began to shine from the gray clouds.
Naruto handed the towel to Gaara. "I'll see ya around."
"Naruto, wait,"Gaara beckoned. Naruto turned with a raised eyebrow and a 'huh?' noise.
"I-I have to tell you something,"Gaara said.
"Hmm?"Naruto asked.
"Naruto, I'm no good with feelings. I'm an emotional void. I didn't have the brightest of childhoods and I know you didn't either. Ever since the chuunin exams, years ago, I haven't been able to stop thinking about you. You were...my first real friend. I, Naruto..."
"Gaara?"
"I love you."
