Caged

 

 

Within a cage I sit and wait
I landed here while testing fate
Through Arrogance I've long denied
I'd fight, I'd steal, I'd cheat, I'd tried
I never dreamt it would be me
Hung from the wall for all to see
I'd seen it done a dozen times
My cohorts all, quick in their crimes
I palmed an ace from up my sleeve
I tossed it down and now I grieve
Three Queens, an Ace, and yet one more
When from my sleeve fell to the floor
The awful truth all eyes did see
They looked at it. They looked at me.
I lost my luck that dreadful day
Now in the cage my life I'll lay
My card-mates stood, their fury great
The tallest one the magistrate
I see the pity on your brow
Here this I'll tell you, even now
But for this cage that is my fate
And all the punishments of late
If I'd the chance I'd go right back
But first I'd check my sleeves for slack
