[ P - Pre-Teen ]

This family had great times

No serious conflicts existed

Between my parents

I'll be the first to admit that

Physical violence ruled

Between us siblings growing up

Still, it was a good

Household to live in

I have never believed

We'd be torn apart

By the fading love

On my daddy's part

Before I knew it…

I was away from home

For four weeks, visiting

My friends, delaying

Another week

Never understanding why my mom—

My mom was upset on the phone

So I was told from my best friend

Who called my mom to see if I could

Stay in Michigan another week

Delaying the news without knowing

Was probably a blessing,

Waiting out my happiness, unknowing

Of my family's situation

When I came home on the plane

Daddy picked me up

We went to the mall,

Eating garlic pretzel

In a few short words,

I laughed because I thought

It was a joke.
