Nailed
*Dustin*
“Excuse me, are you alright?”
I paused and looked up. Hello Heaven! Such a lovely face. I saw an angel standing before me. I slowly rose to my feet.
“Yeah,” I said with a nod. “I’m fine.” The girl blinked at me.
“Okay…” she said. “You just looked so sick.”
“I’m fine, now,” I assured her. “Really!” I tried to laugh it off. Oh crap! She probably thinks I’m an idiot now! Shit! Why do I get these?
But, this girl smiled at me. “That’s good,” she said. My heart only sped up.
Wow! She’s got a cute smile. Wait! Am I dreaming? I have to see.
“Excuse me,” I spoke up. “But what is your name?” Those little brown eyes twinkled.
“Heather,” she said. “And you are?”
“Dustin,” I said. A warm fuzzy moment passed over us. My heart did little flips in my chest.
“Say,” I said. “Care to go for a walk with me?” I paused from that question. What did I say that for? I bowed my head at her.
“I’m sorry if that was sudden,” I said. Heather shook her head.
“No,” she said. “It’s fine.” I smiled.
“Okay,” I said. “Shall we go?” Heather gave me a little smile.
“Sure,” she said. We turned to head into the city. Heather turned to me.
“So, where are we going?” she asked. I shrugged at her.
“Just around,” I said.
“Ah,” Heather said. We turned the corner.
“So,” I said. “Where are you from?”
“Okinawa,” she said.
“Oh, is your military?”
Heather shook her head. “No, my dad works for a company.”
“Oh, which company?”
“Health aid.”
“I see.”
“And what about you?”
“Me?”
“Yeah. Why are you here in Japan?”
“Oh, I’m on the study aboard program.”
“I see.”
“Where are you staying?”
“I don’t know. I’m still looking for a place.”
I don’t know what I was thinking next. But then I said, “You can come by my place.”
She gave me a weird look. “Huh?”
I nodded at her. “Yeah. I live at Fuji Apartments.”
She looked intrigued now. “How is it?”
“Good. Really good.”
“Is it expensive?”
“No.”
Heather nodded. “I see.”
I smiled nervously. Crap! I’m losing focus! I need to get her back on me quick.
“So, do you have a boyfriend?”
She blinked at him. “No…”
Oh no, too forward! Pull back some. I gave her a small shrug.
“Just asking,” I said. Heather perked up.
“No, I’m single,” she said. I smiled.
“Really?” I asked. “Hey, are you available at any time this week?”
“Sure,” she said. I smiled at her.
“Great,” I said. She only smiled at me. I chuckled as I rubbed my hair.
Oh, what is this? I might not be a loser anymore.
*Outside*
Dustin and Heather wandered around the city for an hour. The cowboy’s mood perked back up to ten as he listened to her talk. He just had to go for it.
“Hey,” Dustin spoke up. “You should come and meet my friends.” Heather looked on at him.
“Are you sure?” she asked. The cowboy nodded at her.
“Yeah,” Dustin said. “Let’s go!” He took her by the hand and led her back to Fuji Apartments.
Dustin took Heather back to the party. Reggie looked up, impressed.
“Whoa!” he said. “Who’s this little honey-doll?” Dustin gave off a little smile.
“Heather is her name,” he said. The girl gave off a little wave.
“Hi,” she murmured. Too bad Dustin couldn’t see it, but Hallie’s eyes saw fire with Heather.
So Why Don’t You Kill Me?
