Strange Bedfellows

How did it come to this? Stefan lay in bed next to Takako. That tryst in the elevator was only supposed to be a one-time thing. But now… But now…

Stefan cursed himself under his breath. What was happening? Takako has a boyfriend, but she wasn't stopping it. This was wrong on so many levels.

“What?” Takako asked. Stefan shook his head and looked away. The Japanese woman snorted.

“You fool,” she said under her breath. The Russian man paused.

“Why does that mean?” he asked. Takako smiled and shook my head.

“Don't try to catch any feelings for me,” she said. Stefan froze.

“What?!” he asked. The Japanese woman laughed as she covered the top of her face.

“What did you think was going to happen?” she asked. Where the hell was all of this coming from? Stefan looked over his shoulder.

“What are you talking about?” he asked. Takako looked at him out of the corner of her eye.

“I know that you are catching feelings for me,” she said.

“What?!” he asked. “You're nuts!”

“Am I?”

“Yeah!” He rolled over to see her staring back at him. She looked like she was ready to laugh. The Russian man frowned.

“Where was all this coming from?” he asked. Takako smirked at him. Stefan lifted his head and narrowed his eyes.

“Wait… are you saying this because you're falling for me?” he asked. The Japanese woman frowned.

“In your dreams,” she said.

“Ah! You are falling for me!” Stefan said. “I knew that you would fall for my boyish charms.” He wiggled his eyebrows as he smiled. Takako rolled her eyes.

“No,” she said.

“I think you are.”

“I have a boyfriend.”

“So?” Stefan propped himself up by his elbow as he looked her in the eye. Takako snorted.

“I'm serious,” her secret lover said. “So? Why are you here?” The Japanese woman rolled her eyes.

“I don't know,” she said.

“Liar,” Stefan said. Takako wrinkled her nose.

“Aw, what?” the Russian man asked. “Can't handle the truth? Then why are you here?” The Japanese woman scoffed as she climbed out of her bed.

“What?” Stefan asked.

“You just had to go and ruin it,” she said. “Foolish little idiot.” Stefan watched her look around for her clothes. He threw up his hands in a shrug.

“Hey! You're the one who kissed me in the elevator!” he shouted.

“This was a mistake,” Takako said.

“You always say that.”

“Shut up.”

The Russian man rolled his eyes. “You always say that too.” That one was more directed toward himself. His secret lover paused from pulling up her panties to her hips as she turned her head. Stefan froze when she gave him the evil eye. He quickly drew his mouth closed. Suddenly, a cell phone buzzed.

“What was that?” Takako asked. Stefan reached over to the nightstand and picked up his phone.

“It's not me,” he said. The Japanese woman frowned and rolled her eyes. She walked over to her purse on the floor.

“Crap,” she said to herself. Takako reached into her purse and fished out her phone. Her face went pale as her eyes widened.

“Shit!” she said.

“What?” Stefan asked.

“It's Eri,” Takako said with her eyes fixed on the screen.

“Eri?” the Russian man asked.

“My boyfriend. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit!” she said. Takako sped up with getting dressed. Stefan looked even more puzzled as the message sank in.

“Wait, he's here?” he asked. Takako didn't answer as she gathered up her clothes and put them on. Eri picked the worst time to come to Moscow to see her. What the hell was he even doing in Russia?

“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” Takako shouted the whole time while pacing around and getting dressed. She pulled her ponytail out of her shirt.

“So… see you next week then?” Stefan asked. The Japanese woman flipped him off as she hurried out of the hotel room.

“Does that mean no?” the Russian man asked. All he got in response was a loud door slamming.

--------

“Hello?” Takako asked as she ran down the hall to the elevator.

“Babe? Where have you been? I've been trying to call you, but you didn't pick up. Are you okay? Where are you now?” Eri asked on the other line.

“I was just out. What are you doing here in Russia?” she asked.

“Didn't you get my text?” her boyfriend asked. Takako looked confused when she reached the elevator.

“What texts?” she asked. “I haven't had a chance to check my phone yet. Where are you now?” The woman pressed the down button.

“At the airport,” Eri said. “I would try to go to Mai and Nikkita's place, but I don't know how to get there. I tried to look up the direction, but I don't remember what the address was.” Takako pushed her bangs from her forehead as she sighed.

“I'll be right there, Baby,” she said.

“Thanks, Babe. You're the best,” he said.

“Uh-huh,” Takako said, nodding in discomfort. The elevator dinged over her head. She dragged herself into the cab. Her phone pinged as the doors slid closed. All of her boyfriend's texts finally came in. Takako sighed as she dropped her phone to her side. Moments earlier, she called Stefan a fool.

Who was the bigger fool now?
