Patrick watched her start walking. Looking up at the sky. It was going to rain. "Do you live far from here?"
"About a mile," Leia said without looking back at him.
"You're going to get caught in the rain. Do you have someone that can pick you up?"
She looked at him. "It's rain, not acid."
"With the pollution I wouldn't be so certain." Staring up at the sky once more, he sighed. "Do you want a ride?"
"I don't ride in cars with strangers," she said. "Really, do you expect me to just hop in your car without knowing a thing about you? I don't even know the kids in my class that well."
He shrugged and started for the teacher's parking lot. "That is wise in a place like this. Well then, take care. Don't get too wet."
"It's water," she said again. She turned back and started walking home. Only moments later the sky broke open and rain poured down.
His door creaked as he slid into it. His car was about four years older than he was, which in car years meant that it could be a great great great great great great grandfather...or mother. He hadn't really decided yet. Turning on the radio, he quickly pushed the wind shield wipers on. He sat in his car for a few moments, simply enjoying the relaxing sound of silence and rain.
Leia phone rang and she answered it above the rain. "Rio's coming to get you," Gabe said. "You'll catch a cold if you down find some cover." Leia looked around and ran to a tree and sat under it.
"I'm sitting under the big oak tree in front of the school," she told him. Her phone beeped. "Hold on, I got a text." Looking at her phone she read the text. "Gabe, he's stuck in traffic. There was an accident."
"You could be stuck there for hours!" He started to pace. "Is anyone still at the school."
Leia looked back at the school, all the lights were off. "I don't think so."
"What about the Shakespeare teacher? Mr. McClain?"
"I have to check the teacher parking lot. And I really don't want to ride with him."
"I don't want you out in this rain, Leia."
She hung up the phone. It was raining hard, very very hard. Taking a deep breath she started running to the teacher parking lot. The rain actually hurt when it hit her.
He nearly jumped when he heard someone tapping on his window. He could barely see through the torrential downpour of rain, however, he had a good idea of who had suddenly changed their mind and decided to take him up on his offer of a ride. Turning on the heat so she wouldn't freeze, he unlocked the passenger door and pushed it open.
Leia quickly got in and closed the door behind her. She shivered hard and put her hands up to the vents. "My ride is stuck in traffic," she explained.
He didn't ask for an explanation. He just simply nodded and started to back out. "Where do you live?" She was going to have to give him pretty good instructions. He was still trying to get the general layout of this city. It was proving to be a lot harder than he had originally imagined. There were just so many buildings and streets that it was a little disorienting.
"Go to the end of the road and take a left." She looked at her phone. It was drowned. Looking at the windshield she had no idea how he could see out with all the water. It was just a big blur.
He nodded. That was simple enough. Carefully guiding them through traffic, he made the turn where she directed. "Now where to?"
"At the stop light take a right," she said. Her uniform was sticking to her. Slowly, she unbuttoned her top and slipped it off her. Her undershirt was just as soaked but at least some of the weight was off. Her pink bra could be seen through her white under shirt.
"Take a ri-" he looked over at her, his eyes widening as he realized that she was stripping. "H-hey! Don't take off anything more. Your shirt is soaked so it's practically see through."
"Wow, you're a smart one," she smirked. "It's a bra. I'm sure you've seen one before." She ran her hands over her skirt, trying to knock some of the water off. "God, I'm all wet!"
"Yes, I have an older sister," he muttered, keeping his eyes on the road. "Any other assumptions you're making are probably incorrect." He nearly swerved into a taxi when she made her rather ludicrous exclamation. "Please...don't say that."
She looked over at him. "We are eight years apart in age. I'm like a kid to you. This shouldn't be so uncomfortable," she said. She rolled her under shirt up a bit to keep it from sticking to her stomach.
He looked over at her curiously. "And just how do you know how old I am?" His eyes shifted when she rolled up her shirt. Really? Was that necessary?
"I didn't know your name until Gage told me, but I read up on you and my other teachers while I was in the office. Since you now have a name, I know that you are eight years older than me, Irish, and a working on your masters." She moved her legs to her chest, her skirt pulling up her thighs. She was cold.
He watched as the skirt moved up her creamy legs. Shaking his head, he stared at the road. "Yes, well, it is not that this situation makes me uncomfortable. You are just a child. I don't want you exiting my car and people seeing your current state of attire and assuming that I'm some sort of pedophile."
"Like they can say much. My father probably owns their houses." She said smugly. "That's my apartment," she pointed.
He rolled his eyes and pulled up to the street, stopping so that she could get out. "Here we are. Might I advise you put your top back on before going out."
She didn't. She opened the door and there was Rio and Gabe with an umbrella. "You're all wet," Gabe said as he helped her out.
"I've noticed."
Rio put his jacket around her. "I turned back around when Gabe said you were finding another ride."
"Thanks for trying." She looked at Patrick. "Thanks for the ride."
He just nodded. She was in their hands now. Looking down at the dashboard clock, he groaned. The Chinese place would be closed in a few minutes. "I'll see you at school tomorrow. Don't forget to have your books," he said as he pulled her door closed.
"I'm so not going to be there," she mumbled as they started to the door.
"Let's get you out of these wet clothes before you get sick," Rio said.
Shaking his head, he pulled from the curb and started off. The kids would be fine. She would be fine. She was young. She could bounce back from a little cold.
The next morning, Rio and Gabe were leaving without Leia. "Please come to school."
"I will, when I feel like it," she said as she chewed on bacon.
"You'll be behind."
"I'll show up for the tests when he has them. I'm not doing Macbeth over again. I refuse to sit through the same crap over and over," she snapped.
"Come on, Rio. We'll be late," Gabe said as he pulled on Rio's hand.
Patty's stomach growled as he made his way to school. "Stupid Chinese place. Can't even stay open five minutes late," he moaned. At least he was getting their early so he could raid the breakfast lines before work.
Eventually, Leia did show up at school...after Patrick's class was over. She met up with the boys and sat with them during break. "Glad you decided to come," Rio said.
"Yeah, whatever."
Break. One of the few moments of the school day which he got to relax and do absolutely nothing. Turning on the small radio, he let the music flood his room while he graded papers. For some reason while he was grading them, his mind snapped back to that girl...Leia. He shook the thoughts from his mind. He wasn't a freak. She was a child. He just needed to sleep more. That was it.
The bell rang. "Come on, we have to get to gym."
Leia followed the boys to the gym then went to the locker room to change. White shirt, sports bra, and short blue shorts were the uniforms for the girls. They didn't change out the day before since it was the first day, but today was different. She walked out to the gym floor and Gabe ushered her over. She sat in front of him and he pulled her hair into a pony tail.
"Is it just me or is that top a little...tight on her," Rio said.
Leia looked at her top and pulled at it. "Yeah, well, we had a shortage for some reason."
"So you get the tight one? Look at the boys they are staring," he groaned and moved in front of her. "Can you imagine what they are thinking?"
"As long as they aren't doing it I'm ok," Gabe said as he stood. "Don't go too far from us ok? Don't want you to get gang banged," he joked.
"Ha ha..." she said rolling her eyes and went to go play volleyball with the other girls.
Paperwork. More paperwork. This was suppose to be his free period, but that was just their way of saying that he got to do his homework without the distraction of students. Going to the office, he tried to copy some tests, but of course the copying machine was down. Wonderful. The only other one was down in the gym teacher's office. Why he needed his own personal copying machine, he would never understand. It wasn't as if their sports teams were all that great.
Going to the gym, he paused as students pushed him about, playing whatever games they did. His eyes scanned the crowd while he made his way to the coach's office.
A ball hit Leia's head for the fourth time. A bunch of girl started laughing. "That's it!" she screamed.
"Oh God...not again..." Gabe said and him and Rio started running to her.
"You bitch! I'm going to rip your head off!" Leia yelled as she lunged at one of the girls. She landed on top of her straddling her. Her fist came down but Gabe caught it. He pulled her off the girl.
"Ok, Leia. Play nice," he said. She fought against him, kicking and reaching for the girl.
"This would be the time for you to run away," Rio said to the girls.
"She's crazy!" they yelled and laughed.
Patrick stopped when he heard the commotion. He frowned when he realized who was the center of the problem. He shouldn't even be surprised. She was awfully feisty for someone who was too sick to come to class. Where was the teacher? Probably in the locker room fondling some young girl.
"Oy! That's enough of that! Both ye lasses calm down." God, he hated it when he sounded so bluntly Irish. He couldn't help it. Whenever he got mad enough to raise his voice it came out.
Gabe threw Leia over his shoulder. She slumped there, arms crossed and steaming as her butt was in the air. "I got it, Mr. McClain," he said and patted Leia's butt.
Rio smirked as Leia groaned. Gabe knew exactly how to take care of her. She was so much small tha
He just sighed, bowing his head at the sight. "Please refrain from doing that again," he told him. "That is her personal space; and I'm fairly certain that it's against school rules for students to grope each other's bottoms. Leia, please refrain from causing more trouble until I'm back in my class room."
"He's gay Mr. Nosy!" Leia called from Gabe's back. Gabe shook her. "Hey! Stop it!"
"Don't be smart to the teacher. He saved you yesterday. He's like your hero," he said.
Rio bursted into laughter. Leia hated being saved. "As if!"
"About a mile," Leia said without looking back at him.
