The phone rang and for several minutes Patrick felt like a school boy on his first day of school. There was the uneasiness. The uncomfortable sense of what was to come. Finally he was transferred to the right section. There was no going back. "Sergeant Davis? I'm not certain if you remember me. My name is Patrick McClain. You said that if I ever needed a job...."

"Stop looking at me like that..."

"Answer the question."

"Back off."

"Answer it."

"Fine...I would say yes. Happy?"

"Somewhat..."

Leia groaned.

"That soon?" His heart fell when he heard the answer. He was expecting that he could spend more time with them. "Okay then. No, that will be fine. At the end of the week I'll be back in America and we can talk more then. Thank you again sir..."

Setting down the phone, he laid back on his bed and stared up at the ceiling. It was time for him to start acting like a grownup.

"Where are you going?" Leia asked as Gabe stood.

"I'm going to go mess around with Rio," he said pulling Rio up. Rio smiled while Leia gagged. Gabe laughed and they walked out.

"We get to fool around?" Rio asked as he pulled at Gabe's shirt.

Gabe smacked his hand. "No. I have other plans." Rio pouted.

"But Gabe..."

Gabe ignored him and went to Patrick's door. Without knocking, he opened it. "So...Leia wants to marry you."

"She didn't say that!" Rio said quickly.

Patrick sat up on his elbows to look at them. If he was surprised he didn't show it. "What exactly did she say?" he asked curiously.

"Gabe, shut your trap. Leia will be pissed...." Rio warned. He almost looked scared. If Leia found out Gabe was spilling things, surely she wouldn't just kill Gabe...but all those around him.

"She said that if you asked her...she would say yes. Isn't that romantic?" Gabe said with stars in his eyes. He plopped down on the bed, making himself comfortable.

Patrick thought that he should warn Gabe that he and Leia had been intimate in his bed; but figured that what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him. "Aye. It is romantic," he admitted softly thoughts now bouncing through his head. "Why...exactly are you telling me this? You've never told me what she's said before."

Gabe smiled. "You make her happy. And I like her when she's happy. Though I don't like you...she does. And I think she's making a mistake but leaving for France...by leaving this relationship."

"So, you're telling me this in hopes that I will propose and marry Leia?"

"You love her right? Then what's the problem?"

"He cheated on her! Who knows if he will do it again!" Rio yelled. "I can't believe you want her with him!"

"Oh shut up, Rio. If she forgave him then so can I."

Patrick sighed. Pushing himself off the bed he walked over to his dresser he pulled something out and pushed it into his pocket. Without looking at either of the boys he walked out his door and down to Leia's room. He didn't knock, instead just opening the door and going in. "So, I'm going to be leaving in three days."

Leia closed her laptop as her back faced him. She looked up and out the window. "So soon..." she whispered. She had hoped to talk him into going to France...even if it was bad PR she still wanted him around. "If you want I can have your things shipped over to where ever you are going. Will you have enough money?" Just for once she wished she could say goodbye to him without her pride getting in the way.

"I...won't need my things. I've decided to go back to the military," he whispered. "No one will really hire me after all this and that way I will have a stable career and a place to stay."

The military? At a time like this? Surely he would go to war... Instead of doing what her heart wanted her to do, she nodded. "Yeah, that will be good for you. It's what you wanted to do before." Slowly she opened her laptop again.

"That was in a different life when I was a different person," he told her. "I'm no longer quite as enthusiastic about it, but I think it is what's for the best. I'm going to miss you, Leia."

"Yeah...I'll miss you too..."

Patrick walked over to her, his hands gently teasing her collarbone. "So tell me. Why did you cry?"

She pushed his hand away. "Because sometimes people cry, Mr. McClain."

"Were you at least crying because you were happy?" He knew the answer, but he wanted to take his time with this. In other words, he wanted to make certain that she meant what she'd told Gabe and Rio. "Since I leave so soon, would you like to spend the day...letting me show you the sights of Ireland?"

"I told you it happened because I was happy. We can just leave it at that." She clicked at few things on her laptop. "I have a lot of work to do...maybe now isn't the time." Spend a day with him? Did he want it to hurt more than it should?

Grabbing her cheek, he made her look at him. "Tell me this. Do you love me? With every fiber of your being?"

She pulled from him, her cheeks a bright red scarlet. "I don't see why you are bringing this up..."

"Because I want to hear you say it before I go. I want to know if it's true," he whispered with a smile. She was blushing. That was a rarity.

"This is very stupid..." she said waving him off.

He sighed and backed off. "I guess it is. Just know that you may you never get a second chance to do so," he whispered before turning and going to the door. She wasn't ready. Even if what she told Gabe and Rio was true. She wasn't ready for it.

Why couldn't she just say it? It was just words! It was just stupid silly words! She turned to him and watched him walk to the door. "I...do..." she said slowly. "To answer your question..."

He turned around looking at her slowly to see if she had guessed his intent. "Do you really?"

"Yes...but I don't see why it matters... Things are going to change. I will never see you again," she said. "What was so wrong with just knowing it? Why must you have to hear it? It's just a lot easier if you pretend it was all nothing, that we were nothing."

He shrugged. "I'm masochistic. I don't want to pretend as if this was all nothing. Where's the fun in life if you don't feel some sorrow to make the good times even better." Taking a deep breath he took a step back toward her. "And before I leave, I would like to hear you say it. If only once."

"They are just words, Mr. McClain. If you want to hear them so bad, go ask Gabe. He throws it around like I throw money," she said.

He nodded slowly. "I'm an English teacher. Words are my life." Turning from her once more he started back to his room.

She closed her laptop once again. People walked in and out of her life all the time. Patrick was just like them. He was nothing more than a phase in her life...right?

Patrick walked back to his room, surprised to see Rio and Gabe still there. "Uh...shouldn't ye be in your room having sex or something?"

"Just because we are gay doesn't mean we always have sex," Gabe said with narrow eyes.

"I want to know why it doesn't..." Rio groaned.

Gabe ignored him. "So, what you say? What she say?"

"I told her I'd be leaving in four days. She said okay," he replied casually as he took a piece of paper and started jotting down things he would need.

"Well duh, that's Leia."

"I could have told you that. What did you expect her to do? Burst into tears and beg you not to go? You have the wrong girl in mind if that's what you want."

"No. All I asked her to do was tell me that she loved me. I wasn't expecting anything emotional from her. Just those three words. If she cannot say that, then I know that she isn't ready for anything more."

Gabe groaned. "You are so slow."

"Why can't you just love her for who she is instead of forcing her to say things she's not ready to say? You would rather cut her out of your life all together than love her even though she can't say it back?"

"Rio didn't say it back when I first told him," Gabe said. "In fact, he didn't say it for a whole year!"

Patrick smirked and shook his head, even as he wrote down the final thing. "I have no intention of doing either. If you'll excuse me I have some business to attend to now."

"Come on, Gabe," Rio said pulling him out of the room.

"You are making a big mistake! She's one of a kind and you should feel honored to have her even be interested in you!" Gabe shouted as Rio drug him out.

"Ignore the crazy person," Rio said as he shut the door.

Once in their room, Gabe fumed. "Did you hear-"

"Not our business."

"Did you see-"

"Not our business."

"And what about-"

"Still, not our business." Rio cupped his face. "Stay out of it."

Patrick called up Samuel. He had one more favor to ask of him. "Is Lilith there?"

Leia sat on her phone listening to her father go on and on. "Look, I don't give a fuck about what you want. No, I'm not going to see you and no I'm not going to make sure you're pretty wife gets a piece of the company. It's mine. I bet if she knew what you did to your first wife she wouldn't be at your death bed."

Her father's tone grew hard. "You listen here-"

"Everything has already been transfer, father dearest. In six months I'll be going to France to the head quarters. By then...you'll be so far gone you won't remember you name. I have no sympathy for you," she said coldly. "You are going to rot in hell for what you did to my mother you bastard." She hung up.

Patrick took the car to Samuel's and hugged Liltih and Samuel. "I need a favor from both of ye," he explained going into detail of what he had planned.

Gabe sat on Leia's bed as she started checking things out to make sure Patrick's things would make it to America safely. "So...you are just going to let him go?"

Leia slammed her laptop down making both Rio and Gabe jump. "Does it look like I want to talk about this right now?"

Slowly Gabe shook his head.

Patrick stayed at Samuel's house throughout most of the night. Finally when he realized how late it was he had to call Leia so she wouldn't worry. "I'm going to be over at Samuel's tonight. "

Leia nodded though he couldn't see it. "I see," she said. So he had gone back to Lilith... "Goodnight then." She hung up.

Patrick put the phone up and leaned against the open door staring up at the night sky. The cold breeze felt good to his hot flesh. With a smile, he closed his eyes. By tonight he would be done. Then maybe tomorrow he would have his decision.
