::Part Four::> Kameko had been running for hours, and finally dropped to her knees and curled up in the snow, shivering. "Why did Yuki make me leave?" she whispered to herself. "Who was it...that was coming? I just hope Yuki's okay..." She yawned, and stretched out in the snow. She had lived here her whole life, so the cold was natural to her. Her body shook not with cold but with exhaustion, because even though her mind had trained her body not to feel the cold, her lungs still had to work hard to breathe the icy air. She stared up at the sky, blinking the snowflakes out of her eyes, and slowly fell asleep. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ He looked at the old photograph, the edges bent, the surface smeared with his strange, circular fingerprints, but the image still clear. The sparkle of life in his eyes still present after all these years. "Ashton...it's been a long time...but I've returned..." he said, speaking to the picture. His voice was deep and echoing, reaching inside the mind. His lips were motionless. He opened up his bag and took out another photo, worn but obviously not as old as the previous one. A man with wavy mist green hair and deep, intense eyes. Scrawled in illegible hiragana below it was a name. But the face would be recognizable to Ash. The collector. "And you..." he began to the next picture. "I trusted you. I trusted him, so I trusted you. I devoted myself to be your ultimate companion. But you threw me away like yesterday's trash. The boy was wrong. I could never trust...humans." /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ "Now...the house should be right about...here...no...that's not right!!" Ayaka said. "Er...we're lost??" "No...we're not lost...we...uh..know where we are." "Oh..then where's the house?" "We know where we are...it's just...we don't know where the house is." Ash hid his face in his hands, peeking out between his fingers. "You're kidding..right." "Well..the good thing is...I've got plenty of food and water..we'll last quite a while out here 'till someone finds us!!" Ash sighed. "Oh well," he thought. "It's better to be stuck out here with...Ayaka...than to be alone." "Look!!" Ayaka cried, pointing. "The river...I recognise that from when i came. Now we've just gotta follow it!" Ash immediately perked up. "Oh..okay! Sounds like a plan!!" He took Ayaka's hand and started walking bouncily towards the frozen river. She giggled. "Ever been ice skating?" "No..can't say that I have..." "Well..it's never too late to learn something new!" He ran out onto the ice, Ayaka's hand still in his. He moved his feet slowly, sliding them over the ice one in front of the other. She closed her eyes and shrieked, but after a moment she opened them again and smiled. "Hey..this is kinda...fun!!" "Yeah..it sure is.. Think you can try it yourself?" Ayaka smirked, and looked confidant. "Sure I can!!" Ash let go, and started gliding over the ice. Ayaka tried to mimic his motions, but her feet slid right out from under her and she fell on her butt. "Oww!" she exclaimed. "Ash...." He laughed, and slid over her. He held out his hand to her, and she grabbed on, but then his legs slid out and he fell flat on his chest. Ayaka rolled over with laughter. "Now who's the great skater mister Pokemon master??" she said, giggling. "Oh yeah??" he replied, faking offense, but soon broke down laughing too. They layed down on the ice, and stared up at the sky, blinking the falling snowflakes out of their eyes. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Yuki inched away from his penetrating gaze. "Mewtwo...I don't know about this..." "What???" he yelled, his psychic voice reaching deep inside her mind. She shivered and drew back. "You hold sentiments for this stupid boy? For our target?? What's wrong with you??" "I just...wanted to know...what it was that he ever did to you?" she asked softly. He glared at her...his ice blue eyes glowing angrily. "What did he ever do to me?? He tricked me!! Fooled me into thinking that there was something good about Pokemon being human's slaves!!! He's so...horrible...deceptive. He..himself...is such a slave to the very system of this training that he was willing to sacrifice his life for it. I thought he was kindhearted...and that...perhaps....there would be a human like he seemed...a human that would take care of me." His eyes glistened for a moment, as if he was trying to hold back tears, but then his gaze went stern again. "I devoted my life to...Lawrence III. When I first met him...he treated me like his most prized possession. I thought...I thought he truly loved and cared about me. So I gave him everything he wanted, became his total servant. I gave my...my life away...I fought with all my heart and spirit for him. But then...he saw....something better for himself. Lugia. A brilliant sea bird...a glorious Pokemon. I promised him that I would help him...would capture it for him. And you know what he did? When I offered to risk my own well being only just for his happiness? He turned his head away, and scornfully told me that I was a worthless piece of garbage that couldn't hold for a minute against Lugia. That I was...yesterday's novelty...today there was something new. It...it killed me. I ran from that place, and realized that Ash was wrong...my original assumption was correct. Humans are not to be trusted. They're horrible, greedy, selfish creatures that do not deserve to live on this planet let alone to place themselves above the Pokemon. And...even the Pokemon are just dumb beasts, they prove that by following humans. But...the Pokemon can learn. They have learned. I have showed them the way. They will not be slaves to the humans anymore. And I will finally have my revenge on that...horrible...deceptive...little maggot of a human...the worst I've ever met. He's a brainless drone to the system. I thought he had heart to stand and sacrifice himself. The truth is..his heart is cold and small...if he even has one at all." Yuki didn't know what to say...she stared at Mewtwo a minute. He turned and left the room. She sat down, and pondered on his words. It made her shiver to think that someone could be so heartless as he had described Ashton. Could he be really telling the truth? Mewtwo sat again in his room...his strange feet dangling down from the high windowsill he rested on. A tear rolled down his cheek, and he wiped it away with his finger. "I will have my revenge..." he said softly to himself. "He will feel all the pain I've felt..and more..when I get at him. The time has finally come!!" He grinned..an evil glint in his eyes. The glint of desire for vengeance. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Kameko's eyes opened slowly, and she rolled over in the snow. She rubbed her eyes, and instantly thought of Mewtwo. Yuki had told her of him, how dangerous he was, and how he wanted to kill Ash. She knew Ayaka liked Ash. And she had gone out searching for him. And that she liked him a lot. She also knew she'd liked Ayaka, she thought she was really nice. She didn't want her to get hurt, and she didn't want anyone she really liked to get hurt either. So, she made up her mind to go and find them, and warn them. She got up, and started running off into the direction that she had seen Ayaka go. There wasn't much time. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Mewtwo's footprints lay behind him a half mile in the snow. His eyes glowed harshly as they surveyed the land. Then, quickly, he snapped his head around, as though he had heard something. "They're close..." he said sharply. "I can sense their presence strong here." He began running, and then his feet lifted off the earth in wingless flight, gliding through the icy air. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Now, Ayaka had gotten the hang of skating, and they chased each other over the icy river, laughing. "Catch me if ya can!!" Ash yelled back at Ayaka. "You can count on it!" she called as she grabbed onto his arm and skated up beside him. He was clearly surprised, but he smiled and they both skated slower, Ayaka laying her head on Ash's shoulder. Everything seemed to slow down, like every moment could be frozen in time to examine carefully with your eyes, taking in every bit of it, before moving on to the next. They observed each snowflake, every pattern inside it was noticed. Mewtwo ran toward them, looking right at them, but they didn't see. Just then, Kameko caught up, and cried out to them. "Ash! Ayaka! Watch out!" They turned, looking at Kameko, and then turned at Mewtwo. Ayaka looked carefully at the creature, puzzled by its appearance. But Ash drew back, with a mixture of fright and surprise. "My dream..." he said to himself quietly. "It's real..." He dropped to his knees as the dream that was now a memory rushed back into his mind. "Yes..you remember...don't you?" he heard in his mind Mewtwo's voice. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ "You must listen to me!" the harbor manager cried. "The prophets have predicted the return of the winds of water. For years I have prayed, that mankind would never witness, that deadly storm ever again." /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ They climbed into the small boat and looked suspiciously at the man and woman, dressed in Viking like clothing, who lifted the oars and began to row over the choppy sea. The boat was tossed up and down like a child's toy thrown into the big ocean. "Don't worry Togepi..we'll be okay.." Misty assured the little Pokemon. Ash wasn't so sure. He held Pikachu tightly in his lap, and then looked back at the ocean. A huge wave roared just in front of them! The passengers screamed as it splashed into the boat, pulling them under water for a "Team Rocket!" Misty cried. "I knew there was something fishy about them, besides the way they smelled," Brock replied. They laughed and began to recite their motto, but were cut off by another huge wave, knocking all of them out of their boat into the rough ocean. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Ash gasped for breath, looking out over an unearthly calm sea. The silence was like music after the deafening roar of water, though it had an eerie aspect to it. Not too far into the distance, a giant structure cast strange shadows on the water. He looked at the building in awe. He had never seen anything of its like. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Ash watched as the Pokemon and their clones pounded each other mercilessly. He propped himself up against the wall of the stadium, still tired after climbing down from the upper floor. Near blinding flashes of light issued from Mew and Mewtwo as they smashed into each other. "What will happen to them?" Ash thought. "They...they're killing each other. How could they do this?" He watched as the clone Pikachu repeatedly slapped Ash's Pikachu, but Pikachu didn't move even a muscle to defend or attack back. "Someone's gotta take a stand," Ash began. "Someone's gotta say no! And refuse to fight....just like Pikachu..." He heard Joy and Misty talking...and the Pokemon's continued attacks, but that seemed only to be in the background. He knew what he had to do. Somehow, he knew what would stop this fighting. He stood up, and ran with all his might between Mew and Mewtwo. He saw their attacks coming straight at him. They smashed into him. His body was exploding with pain. He felt himself get colder and colder. And then he blacked out. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ "Ash!" Ayaka cried. "Snap outta it!" she shook him, and his eyes focused and he looked around. He rubbed his eyes, and stood. "You...are..real..." he said tentatively, looking at Mewtwo but afraid to focus on his eyes. "Yes," he replied, his voice echoing into his mind. "And..that wasn't a dream at all?" "It was a memory that I tried to make you forget. But your mind clung to it." "What do you want with me?" "I want revenge Ash!" his eyes glowed with a fiery ice, his voice angry. Ash stepped back. "Revenge? For what?" "You lied to me Ashton! "The Pokemon...did you cause the Rebellion?" "No. I simply showed them the door. They were the ones who chose to walk through it. All of them. Except for yours.." he gestured towards Ash as well as Ayaka. "But the gym leaders..Misty.." "Misty is a powerful person. As well as a person quite close to you. I took over her body. I used her to eliminate the other gym leaders, and I was going use her to eliminate you and Ayaka. And..in case any of them did survive..which I heard Brock and Erika did...I took control of Yuki as well to destroy them once they came to the shadow world. But her and Misty, they are both sentimental fools. They though you to be...sweet...kind...as I had thought you to be long ago. But I was wrong." "You were right!" Ayaka shouted. "Now you are wrong! Now you are lost!" "No...Ayaka. You are lost. I have found the way. A world with only Pokemon. They will rule. Humans will be extinct. And you...Ashton..will be the first!" Ash stepped forward, towards Mewtwo. Ayaka put her hand on his shoulder. "Ash...be careful.." He nodded. "You want to fight Mewtwo? I will not die so easily again." "Ha! That is what you think. I too have trained more. You are no match for me." He focused his energy, his body glowing icy blue. This is it..Ash thought. Maybe all Misty's tough training actually might have done me some good. But...Mewtwo must be much more powerful than Misty's program..and her program beat me..which means..He shook his head. No time to think of that sort of thing. It's not like I have a choice. It's either fight and maybe die, or don't fight and surely die. I'm not giving up! He summoned the energy of his Pikachu. It came slowly at first, for he hadn't really spoken with the creature recently and their ties had been weakening. But he felt a rush of static come over him, lightning dancing over his body. Ayaka stared in awe. He's..really powerful! "Yes Ayaka.." Mewtwo's voice reached into her mind, responding to her thoughts. She jumped back. He could read her thoughts? "He may be powerful, but he will die today. I am psychic..aren't I?" "No!!!!" Ayaka cried out, holding out her arms. "Ryuusei..I call forth your eternal power to defeat this enemy!" She glowed aqua, much like Mewtwo, but something was different in the energy she had called. It wasn't cold or angry, it was powerful, but with a strange twinge of sadness. Ash held out his arm, and the lightning energy converged to form a brilliant sword that he clenched tightly in his hand. He swung it in front of his face, and focused his eyes intently on Mewtwo. He held it out straight in front of him, and charged at him, bringing the sword down upon him. But instead of crashing into the creature, a brilliant shield formed around Mewtwo and Ash was thrown back, crashing into the ground and stifling a cry. He sat up, and his eyes glowed an angry gold. "Ash!! Are you alright??" Ayaka ran towards him. "Oh? You think you are going to help your little friend here?" Mewtwo inquired mockingly. "I think not!" Ayaka glared at Mewtwo. She moved to strike him, but she suddenly froze in her tracks. "I..I can't move.." she realized aloud. She felt herself rise into the air, Mewtwo moving his arm upwards to control her psychically. She screamed as she rose to the height of the forest and then higher. Finally, Mewtwo dashed his arm to the side, as if to fling something away. Ayaka flew through the air, and then slammed into the thick ice of the river, breaking it and sending her into its cold depths. The surface of the river trembled for a moment and then stilled before a new layer of ice quickly formed over it. "Ayaka!!!" Ash cried out in agony as if he had been the one attacked. "Now..you will be the one to die today!!" he screamed at Mewtwo, charging at him, lightning springing off his shoulders like golden flames. His power made the air around him ripple like heat waves. Mewtwo chuckled and held out his hand, a sphere of his psychic power gathering there. He flung it at Ash. He turned to jump and dodge it, but it hit his legs and threw him far backwards, over the frozen river and slamming him into a tree in the forest. He slid down and groaned a little. He put his hand to his lip and felt the stickiness of his blood. He coughed and pushed himself up off the ground. "I'm not gonna lose Mewtwo!!" he said confidently, though inside he was uncertain. "Again you lie Ashton.." Mewtwo replied. He charged himself, and Ash ran at him with his sword, slamming into him and pushing him back a little. He turned and laughed again. Mewtwo jumped into the air and stayed suspended there, a sphere of his power gathering around him. Ash looked up at him, surrounding himself with his own power, and wondering what Mewtwo was planning to do. Mewtwo dove at him, smashing him to the ground and knocking the wind out of him. Ash looked up at him and tried to catch his breath, but it was too late. Mewtwo's hand grasped him tightly around the neck. He struggled, kicking and scratching at the huge creature, but his efforts were to no avail. Slowly he weakened, and his cheeks became tinged with blue. "Now you die..Ashton," Mewtwo's speech penetrated the very depths of his mind, reaching inside him, making him shudder. His vision began to narrow... /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Ayaka slowly felt her thoughts return as she stepped out of her own world and into reality. She was conscious of intense coldness around her, and also realized she wasn't breathing. "Am I...alive..?" she questioned, not quite knowing to who she asked the question. Then, as if she had been thrown from the river and back onto their battlefield, she saw Mewtwo and Ashton. She saw Ash's spirit begin to rise and abandon his body. "ASHTON!!!!!!!" she cried, flinging her arms and legs out to the sides. Her life force and psychic energy surrounded her as if she was a brilliant star. The light shone far into the sky from the river, breaking through the ice. She floated up into the air and began to transform. In a burst of rainbow color, brilliant wings appeared on her, each feather containing all the light of a thousand suns, and she wore a long flowing gown of stardust. A headband of rainbow silk was tied around her forehead, and a waistband of the same material was around her waist. She flew at Mewtwo and crashed into him, making him fly back and slam into a tree. "What!!" he cried in agony and surprise. Ayaka kneeled on the ground beside Ash and put her hands on his limp shoulders, Mewtwo looked in awe at them, but the amazement left his eyes quickly, replaced by cold anger. He held his right arm to the sky and a brilliant sword of dark energy appeared in his hand. He charged at them, but they deflected his attack with ease. The three flew up into the air and clashed into each other, but every time Mewtwo's energy failed to penetrate their shields he grew weaker. "This can't be...happening!!" he shouted as he frantically tried to deflect their attacks but failed miserably. All three powered up in midair, their energy surrounding them, and they shot their attacks straight at each other. They converged, and in a brilliant white light Mewtwo looked into the center of the explosion. There, he saw himself, when he was just a small Pokemon. He put his hand up to the image, and the smaller Mewtwo did the same, as if each was looking at the other through a mirror. The little Mewtwo smiled at the older one, but the current Mewtwo didn't respond. Still, the small Mewtwo looked into the other's eyes, and when he had caught his glance, nodded to him. He grasped his hand, and pulled him through to the other side. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Mewtwo's eyes snapped open abruptly. He looked out over the starry sky, the moon large in front of him. He couldn't quite make out the figure that stood between him and the moon. Small...longish hair...bright eyes... "Human...." Mewtwo said under his breath..a tone of disgust in his voice. The baby Mewtwo turned to him, and shook his head. Mewtwo looked closer at the figure. Still...all he saw was a human child. The young Mewtwo sighed. So did the child, closing her eyes, tears coming to them. "You...have forgotten..." her bright, high voice was choked with sadness. "Forgotten?" Mewtwo asked..impatientness in his voice. The child broke down in tears, hiding her face, crying out in sadness. The smaller Mewtwo put his arm around her shoulder to comfort her, but she drew back. "This is what you become? You have life..the greatest gift of all...and you use it only to destroy? I wish you had died with the rest of us!! Then you couldn't have caused so much pain and suffering!! What's wrong with you?? I HATE YOU MEWTWO!!! YOU WERE MY ONLY FRIEND!!!! I HATE YOU!!!" "The others..?" Mewtwo questioned himself. "The others....! The experiments!! I was the only to survive...but the others..I had forgotten them!! Bulbasaur and Charmander and Squirtle...and..." his voice filled with sadness for the last name... "Ai." The girl's crying stopped, and she looked at Mewtwo through her clear, bright eyes. Mewtwo looked back at her, his eyes filled with such understanding...such guilt...but such gratefulness. He took a slow step towards the girl...towards...Ai. "I...I'm sorry....I'm so sorry. I'm so stupid....How could I forget..you!! Human....kind...wonderful human!!" he cried. "Mewtwo!! I forgive you!! I love you Mewtwo!!" her voice sparkled with happiness. They came together and hugged, and in this time, the child Mewtwo and the current Mewtwo became one Mewtwo. This Mewtwo had the memory of the past and the knowledge of the future, and so was truly the best of them. And...he had...Ai. ( in both ways... ^_^ **aww**) /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Ashton and Ayaka held hands tightly, looking at the bright light of the explosion. It rushed towards them. They didn't let go. The brightness surrounded them. Their hands were still linked. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Kameko, who had been watching this whole time, put her hand to her mouth in shock. Her eyes were wide. A mixture of smoke and dust blew past her, blocking her vision for a short time. The dust and smoke cleared. Ayaka and Ashton lay sprawled out on the scorched ground. The wings were crumpled. In a moment, the wings and the brilliant robes, now torn, vanished, and they lay there in their normal clothing with their normal appearance. Kameko called out to them. They did not answer. She called again. They remained silent. Mewtwo kneeled on the ground near them, his eyes gazing outwards as if he was in a trance of some sort. Kameko stepped tentatively towards them. Ayaka and Ashton's faces were pale. No breath came from their lips. "Ayaka!!" Kameko cried, shaking her by the shoulders. She moved limply back and forth. Kameko let go. She fell into the snow. "No!!" Kameko yelled at them both. "You can't die!! You can't!!" /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Misty and Akamadake looked at Ashton's frozen body, laying beside Ayaka's. "Do you think they'll..." Misty began. Akamadake looked silently /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ "Mewtwo...you know...you have a second chance," Ai began. Mewtwo looked at her and tilted his head questioningly. "Can you forgive the humans? Not all of them are bad you know! There is...Ashton, and Ayaka, and Misty, and....and me," her eyes trembled with tears. "You didn't have to let them die. It doesn't have to end here. You chose to take their lives. You can choose to reverse it." "Ashton...he caused me so much pain...and I was so horribly...jealous of him. He had such love..from his Pokemon..and from Ayaka. I never had any love at all." "I loved you Mewtwo. I loved you." Mewtwo couldn't answer. He closed his eyes, and tears ran down his face. "Do you forgive them...?" Ai asked. "I...I guess so..." "Truly?" "Yes." he said with sureness. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ \/\ Nobody saw Mewtwo stand up and walk toward Ashton and Ayaka.
