“You are a fool to come here.” His voice was sharp, and Red repressed a shiver as his sneakers squished softly. The ground was wet and muddy, but as he neared Lance's throne, he was gratified to note that the floor changed from barren, wet rock to slick black marble. He said nothing, as he knelt.
“Why?” Lance asked, and there was genuine curiosity in his voice. “Why are you here, Champion? I am no longer your concern - the region is safe once again, your heroic efforts have netted you Deoxys, and you have saved the world. Why do you seek me? Was it Silver who told you where I was?”

Red shook his head. “I guessed.”
The Dragon Master sighed. “You seem to be speaking the truth. Very well. What do you require of me, Champion?”
Red fidgeted slightly. “I just wanted to talk.”
Lance stared blankly at him. “To talk? About what?”
“Pika's dead.” Red sniffed. “I wanted to know if it was a side-effect of the Viridian Power.”

Lance chuckled. “So you guessed. It is true. When a trainer of the Viridian Forest bonds to a pokemon from that same forest, the pokémon's life is cut in half in exchange for great power.”
He was quite pleased that the rodent was dead, actually, and as he used dragon pokemon that could live a thousand years, he was not worried about the life trade. He had no doubt that he would die first.
Red stared at Lance, before he nodded. “Thank you.”
“You're welcome. Anything else, Champion?”
“Actually… there is.”
“Do tell.” The Dragon Master said, raising an eyebrow. Red flushed, before he leaned forwards and timidly kissed Lance on the cheek.
Lance stared at him as though he had grown another head. “What was that for?”
“I-I really don't know why I did that! I'm sorry!” With that, Red fled, almost slipping as he hightailed it out of there on the back of his Gyarados.
Lance frowned, touching a hand to his cheek in surprise, and wondered if he would come back.
Interesting…
