Floods were quite common in the Indigo Plateau. Every few months, a barrage of trainers would rush in, all madly intent on defeating the Elite Four and becoming the new Pokemon Champion. It was terribly cliché and boring, and Lorelei swore that the same boy had fought her three times already today.
She vaguely wondered how the others were holding up. Lance had it pretty bad too - while Bruno was just being steamrollered. He really ought to have evolved his Onix into Steelix sooner to prevent all those grass and water pokémon.
Agatha was doing very well, but that was to be expected. Out of all the Elite, she had the most experience, almost twenty years more than any of them. Her ghost pokémon were sapping their opponents quickly.

“Hakai Beam!”
“No! My Blastoise!”
Lance smirked as his Aerodactyl flashed sharp fangs in mockery. As the trainer switched for Hitmonlee, a second Hyper Beam finished it off as well.
“Leave.” The Dragon Master snapped, before he was gone in a swirl of dark fabric. He had better things to do, after all.

Red was waiting when he returned, red eyes peering curiously at him. “Are they gone now?”
“Yes.” Lance crooned. “They're gone.”
The Champion shivered. “I'm glad.” He said. “I don't like them.”
“I know, and that's why we didn't force you to battle today.”
“It scares me, you know.” Red whispered. “I didn't want the others to know. Do you think they know?”
“Hush.” Lance said, pulling Red into a hug. “It's all right. You grow used to it.”
“They're like bugs. Rats. Swarms.” Red shook his head. “They all want to defeat me. What did I ever to them? And they look so angry…”
“Shh.” Lance soothed. “We'll take care of it. You shouldn't have to deal with this kind of stress yet.”
“Really?”
“Really.” Lance said. “Now, do you want to make cookies? My battles for the day are over.”
“Sure!” Red said cheerfully, climbing out from where he was wrapped mummy-style in a Torchic-patterned quilt in the big leather chair.
Lance just chuckled as he steered Red into the kitchen. They found Lorelei there, making herself a sundae with plenty of chocolate sauce.
“Bad day?” Lance asked mildly.
“You would know.” Lorelei shook her head. “But at least it's over, and we'll have a bit of a break until the next wave.”
“True.” Lance agreed. “At least two months.” He grabbed the mixing bowl and spoons while Red began to leaf through a cookbook.
Soon, they decided on chocolate chip cookies. Red happily mixed batter while Lance watched indulgently.
The Champion was really so cute…

Later, they sat next to each other and munched on fresh cookies, and made no more mention of fears.

Red: Fluffy!
Lance: *Hugs Red*
Phantomness: ^^
I like using `Hakai' - Destruction beam, instead of Hyper Beam. ^^
