[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Surge laid on the couch, watching tv, as Kit tidied up. “It’s just Sonic. I doubt he’ll care if it’s spotless.”

 “You’re right.” Kit said.

 Someone knocked on the door.

 “Coming.” Kit said, hurrying to the door. He opened the door. “Uh… Sonic?”

 “Yeah.” Sonic said. “We have to go to the concert straight from here and I didn’t want to try to get ready in the civic center bathroom again.”

 “Come in.” Kit replied. He showed Sonic and his siblings in.

 Surge looked up and stared at them with her mouth hanging open.

 Sonic laughed. “Yeah, forgot you hadn’t seen my concert look.” He said. He motioned to his siblings. “Manic gets us clothes with his discount. Sonia handles makeup.”

 “That’s why your name sounded familiar.” Manic said, snapping his fingers. “It’s been driving me crazy all day.”

 Sonic looked at Manic. “What?”

 Sonia motioned to Surge. “That’s your employee slash girlfriend?”

 Sonic sighed. “Dude….”

 “Uh… we haven’t gone out yet.” Manic said. He eased closer to Surge. “Here’s yours and Kit’s free passes, Babe.”

 “You are so gonna get fired.” Sonia said, rolling her eyes upward.

 “Forget that, sis.” Sonic replied. “She nearly electrocuted me. She has to have some kind of angle to be dating him.”

 “I didn’t know he was your brother.” Surge said. She looked at Manic. “It’s not like you’re identical twins or something.”

 “I didn’t know she was the same one.” Manic added.

 “Does that affect your feelings now, bro?” Sonic asked.

 Manic glanced at Surge. “It should, but….”

 Sonic slapped his hand over his face.

 “But she’s reformed.” Manic said. 

 Surge got up and put her arm around Manic. “Hey, we could be in-laws one day, Sonic.” She said, smirking.

 Manic grinned. 

 “Wipe that stupid look off your face, Manic Edsel Hedgehog.” Sonic snapped. “She tried to kill me.”

 “Not by choice, we were forced into all of that.” Surge said.

 “You gotta be nice to him if we’re gonna be together, Babe.” Manic said, looking at Surge.

 “I’m willing to call a truce.” Surge replied. “For Manic’s sake.”

 “Sonic, try to be supportive.” Sonia said. “That’s the first girl he’s ever had any interest in.”

 “Sis, I’m not sure that helps my case.” Manic said.

 “That’s not even helping at all.” Sonic added.

 “No, it’s fine.” Surge replied. She ruffled Manic’s spines. “You obviously have good taste, Cute stuff.”

 Manic giggled.

 “Okay, fine.” Sonic muttered. “Truce for my obnoxious brother’s sake unless I find out you do have an angle.”

 Sonic held his hand out to Surge.

 Surge reached to shake Sonic’s hand, then noticed the rings. She took the rings off, then shook Sonic’s hand.

 “Alright, we gotta go.” Manic said. He looked at Surge. “See ya at the concert, babe.”

 “Yeah. See ya.” Sonic muttered.

 “Nice to meet you, Surge.” Sonia said. “See you at the concert.”

 Sonic grabbed Manic’s arm and dragged him out of the apartment while Sonia followed them.

 Kit closed the door behind them. “So I guess you’re cool with Sonic now?”

 “I have to be.” Surge replied. “Manic would only put up with so much.”

 “I think you’re a cute couple, ma’am.” Kit said.

 Surge groaned. “Please. Stop. I hate that.”

 “I’m sorry.” Kit said, pinning his ears back.

 “Let’s go.” Surge replied.

 Sonic shook his head as they waited to go out on stage. “Her? Really, bro?” 

 Manic sighed. “I didn’t know who she was to start with.”

 “You do now.” Sonic said, tapping his foot.

 Manic fidgeted with his drumsticks. “But… I think I love her.”

 “You just met that girl.” Sonic said exasperatedly.

 Manic ran his hand through his spines. “I know, I know.”

 “Does she have you hypnotized or something?” Sonic asked.

 “I don’t think so.” Manic replied.

 “Sonic, she called a truce.” Sonia said. “You can keep an eye on her, but don’t try to sabotage his relationship.”

 “I think that’s fair.” Manic said, crossing his arms.

 “Alright, fine.” Sonic replied. “If she’s really reformed, I’m happy for you. Just don’t rush into anything.”

 Manic hugged Sonic. “Thanks, bro.”

 “You’re welcome.” Sonic said.

 Surge and Kit arrived. 

 Manic grinned. “Hey, babe.” He said. “I’m so excited. You’ll get to hear me play and I’m singing a couple of songs.”

 Surge glanced at Sonic. “Can you drown out your brother’s singing?” 

 Manic laughed. “Nah, but Sis asks for me to do that too.”

 “Alright, we better go.” Sonic said.

 Manic hugged Surge. “See you after the concert, babe.”

 “Break a leg.” Surge replied.

 “You probably mean that literally, don’t you?” Sonic sneered.

 Surge gave Sonic a blank stare. “I would just break your leg instead of telling you to do it.”

 Sonic narrowed his eyes.

 “Dude, you provoked her.” Manic said. “C’mon, we have a show to do.”
 
 “Whatever.” Sonic said, leading the way onto the stage.

  Surge and Kit walked back into the apartment.

 “Great, I gotta work tomorrow.” Surge muttered as she headed to her room. “At least I don’t have to go in super early.”

 Surge flopped down on her bed and fell asleep.

 Kit stepped in and pulled her blankets over her before heading to his own room to sleep.
