[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Burlow and, Maria and the others went to the space colony ARK without delay. Knuckles and
Sonic stayed on earth.

Meanwhile, on ARK...

"Where is she? Her time is almost up. You'd better hope she gets here, for your sake."Dr.
Eggman said to Shadow who was in a cell made of glass.(What would you expect, Eggman and
G.U.N. are both idiots.)

"Joe, if that hedgehog tries anything, shoot him."Dr. Eggman told one of his goons.

Joe sat next to the cell, he got distracted by the alarm that signaled an intruder. Burlow and
Maria had come.

"Maria, you come with me. We'll destroy these cameras and guards."Burlow said.

Burlow and Maria did their job with great ease.

"Tails, Gierin, find the central control room and unlock all the doors."Burlow ordered.

Tails helped find the central control room and Gierin unlocked the doors.

"Okay, guys. Keep goin'!" Gierin said over the intercom.

Burlow and Maria found Gierin and Tails just outside the door to the prison area.

"Alright, let's go."Burlow said.

They entered the room, Maria suddenly had a scared look on her face. She looked down at the
pile of metal crates on the floor, there was blood on the floor as well as a bit of black fur on the
ground. It smelled of smoke and gunpowder.

"Father!"Maria yelled as she dug through the crates.

Maria found Shadow at the bottom of the pile, he had been shot in the back as well as his chest,
there were cuts from glass on his face and his arm was broken.

"Father, are you okay?"Maria asked in a shaky voice.

"Maria... Is that you?"Shadow asked, just barely opening his eyes.

"Yes, dad, it's me."



"Maria... please... forgive me f-for w-what I let them do to you, I'm so sorry."Shadow said
weakly, tears welling up in his eyes.

"... It's okay, I forgive you. Please, try to hold on. You're ganna be okay."Maria replied.

For the first time, Maria saw Shadow cry. Shadow gripped his daughter's arm, Maria held him
close, blood was dripping onto her black shirt.

"... Thank you."Shadow said, his body relaxed, he closed his eyes and stopped breathing.

"Father?!"Maria said, on the verge of crying.

Tails placed two fingers on Shadow's wrist.

"He's still alive but he's not breathing. Does anybody know CPR?"Tails asked.

"What is that?"Burlow asked.

"What the hell are you talking about?"Gierin asked.

"I know how to do it but I can't perform it. Can you do it?"Tails asked.

"*gulp* Yes."Maria replied.

"Oh, God. This is so disgusting."Maria thought, but she lost Shadow once and she wasn't going
to loose him again.

After awhile, Shadow started hacking and coughing. Soon, he began to slowly and heavily
breathe. Maria was very relieved.

"If those wounds aren't treated, Shadow could bleed to death."Tails said.

Maria tore off the bottom of her shirt and wrapped it around Shadow's chest and back.

"I'll go and find who did this."Burlow said.

Burlow left to find the man who shot Shadow while Maria and Gierin looked after him.










Maria was still on the floor, crying with Shadow in her arms. Tails went to go find a space ship
to get home.

"Father, please don't die on me. I need you."Maria whispered to Shadow, she held him closer
and started to cry harder.

Gierin noticed Maria's fear and worry and tried to calm her down.

"Hey, don't worry. He'll be okay."Gierin said.

"I hope so, he's all I have left. My mother died a long time ago, if dad dies, I'll be all alone."

"Your mum died?"

"Yeah, I never knew her. She died after I was born."

"God, I can't imagine life without my mum. She was the one who took care of me most in my
life."

"Who is your mother anyway?"

"A fine treasure hunter named Rouge the bat, she's the best person in the world."

"Gee, you're lucky."

"When I was little, mum used to take me along when she went out at night."

Burlow returned a few minutes later.

"Guys, I found a space ship."Tails said as he ran down the hall.

"Is there a first aid kit?"Maria asked.

"Yeah."

They began their trip home, Tails treated Shadow's injuries.










The next morning, Maria got something to eat, Burlow was waking up.

"*yawn* Hi, Maria."Burlow said.

"Oh, hello Burlow."Maria replied.

Burlow walked over and sat down next to her.

"Um, thanks for helping me and my dad."Maria said.

"Aw, shucks, you don't need to thank me."

Maria leaned over and kissed him, Burlow had never felt so happy but at the same time, he felt
embarrassed, he turned red.

"W-why did you do that?"Burlow asked, still embarrassed.

Maria didn't answer. Burlow stared down at Maria's blue eyes, Maria gazed back up at Burlow's
green ones as if to say "I love you". Soon enough, Burlow knew that Maria wanted him to
respond to her sign of affection, he wanted to respond so he kissed her lovingly on the lips. He
loved her and he was certain she loved him back. Maria stroked Burlow's side, she didn't care
how rough the fur was. Burlow hoped that she would be his girlfriend, he loved Maria so much.
Age didn't matter, both were twelve years old but they loved each other just the same. Maria too
hoped that such a handsome hedgehog didn't have a relationship with somebody else.

"You're the best friend I ever had."Maria whispered.

The space ship landed, Tails and the others left with Burlow and Maria who were walking hand
in hand, a new friendship made.

Aw, how sweet. There's nothing cuter than poor, lonely Maria the hedgehog in love. What do
you guys think? I think she's lucky to be in love with such a brave and honest hedgehog like
Burlow. The sequel will reveal even more secrets.
