Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Freedom or another prison ❯ Rescued? ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Four year old Surge sat in the corner of the Tashistan orphanage with two year old Kit.

The little fennec was her only friend in the place.

The two kids were in timeout yet again because they tried to escape again.

Breezie, one of the caretakers, stepped in. “Surge, Kit, are you ready to go to your new home?”

“What?” Surge asked. “Someone’s taking both of us?”

“Yes, sweetie.” Breezie said, kneeling down to their eye level. “When we mentioned Kit was your best friend, your new adoptive dad was happy to take you both in.”

Kit hugged Surge as he happily yipped.

Surge cringed. “You’re right in my ear, Kit.”

“I’m sorry, ma’am.” Kit said, pinning his ears back.

Surge sighed. “Please stop calling me that.”

Breezie led Surge and Kit out to a male platypus. “Dr. Starline, this is Surge the tenrec and Kit the fennec.” She said, smiling. “Kids, this is your new dad Dr. Starline.”

“Are you ready to go home?” Dr. Starline asked.

Surge and Kit hugged Dr. Starline. “Thank you.”

Dr. Starline chuckled. “Aw, you’re welcome.” He said, patting Surge and Kit on their heads. “Are you ready to go home? There’s a welcome home party waiting for you.”

 Surge and Kit cheered.

Dr. Starline walked the kids out of the orphanage.

Surge and Kit nearly dragged Dr. Starline out of the orphanage.

“I can’t believe we’re finally free.” Surge thought. “I finally have a home and family.”

Dr. Starline walked Surge and Kit into his home, which looked more like a laboratory with a waiting room than it did a proper home. “Alright, I’ll show you to your rooms before you get to work.”

Surge and Kit looked around the minimally decorated living room.

 “Where’s our party?” Surge asked.

“There’s no party.” Dr. Starline replied. “You two are lucky I saw a use for you.”

 “What?” Surge asked.

Kit pinned his ears back and eased himself behind Surge.

Dr. Starline smirked. “You’ll find out soon.”

Surge and Kit exchanged worried glances.

“Oh, don’t worry, I’m not gonna kill you two.” Dr. Starline said. “I have an important job for you, Surge. Kit will help you.”

 Surge raised an eyebrow.

“Come now, I’ll show you to your rooms.” Dr. Starline said, motioning for the kids to follow him.

Surge and Kit followed Dr. Starline to the hallway.

Kit clung to Surge’s arm as he shuffled alongside her.

*

Surge couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Dr. Starline only adopted her to use her as a way to align his kingdom, (which was secretly an extension of the tyrant Dr. Robotnik’s empire that was enslaving most of Mobius) to the Mobotropolis kingdom, then take over the country from the inside out.

The catch was that she’d have to marry one of the princes of Mobotropolis (who were the same age as her, give or take a month or two) when they grew up.

Surge cried into her hands. “It’s not fair!”

“Life’s not fair, brat.” Dr. Starline replied. He groaned. “Stop crying or I’ll give you something to cry about.”

Surge finally looked up and wiped her eyes with her hand. “What if I don’t want to do this?”

Dr. Starline clicked his tongue. “I’m afraid you don’t have a choice.”

 Surge raised her spines.

“If you don’t, you won’t see your little friend again.” Dr. Starline said. “Run your smart mouth or disobey somehow and….”

He pressed a button on his gauntlet.

 Surge’s rings shocked her.

Surge flinched as she yelped. “I’ll do it.” She replied. “Please don’t hurt him.”

“Then do exactly as you’re told.” Dr. Starline said. “If either of you want to live.”

 Surge nodded slowly. “Yes, sir.”

Dr. Starline patted Surge on the head. “Good girl.” He said. “Don’t worry, you’ll both be well compensated for your work. Now, it’s almost time for your etiquette lessons. Clean up, then be out of your room.”

 “Yes, sir.” Surge replied.

Dr. Starline left the room and shut the door behind him.

Surge hung her head. “Why me?”

 ~Meanwhile, in the Mobotropolis palace~

Four year old Manic groaned, dropping his drumsticks. “What do you mean I have to marry some girl I never met when I grow up?”

“I’m sorry, sweetie.” Queen Aleena said, brushing Manic’s long spines out of his eyes. “It’s part of the royal customs on treaties. I didn’t make the rule and, believe me, I tried my hardest to change it.”

“But Sonic knows and likes Sally.” Manic replied. “Sonia can choose whoever she wants. Why can’t I choose who I want or at least meet that girl?”

“Whether Sonic wants to marry Sally when he grows up or not, he has to unless the deal falls through between now and then.” Aleena said. “It just worked out well for him. I’m sorry it didn’t work out that way for you.”

Manic started crying. “It’s not fair, Ma!”

Aleena hugged Manic. “I know, sweetie.” She said, rubbing Manic’s back. “I’m sorry. I am so sorry, baby.”

 Aleena started crying as well.

“I hope this deal falls through.” Manic thought.
