Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Freedom or another prison ❯ Honeymoon trip ( Chapter 5 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Manic, carrying a large gift box, and Surge arrived at Emerald estate in Mobodoon through a ring portal.

Surge looked out the window at the gardens and fountains in the back yard. “Your family owns this too?”

“Yeah, this is technically Ma’s family home.” Manic said, setting the box on the bed. He sat down next to the box. “We use it as a second vacation home. We got another in Emerald island. We would’ve gone there, but there was a storm and a big clean up happening.”

Surge walked over to the bed and sat down across from Manic. “What did we get?”

Manic opened the box and pulled out two black plush bathrobes with their names embroidered on them. “That’s nice.”

“She’s more relaxed than Starline is.” Surge said. “He never let me or Kit wear black.”

 Manic furrowed his brow. “Starline?”

“He wasn’t the type to let us call him dad.” Surge replied. “He was never the dad type anyway.”

Manic nodded. He glanced at the bathroom. “There’s a jacuzzi tub and those rainfall showers.” He said. “Do you want to try it out? If not, I’m going in there.”

“You can’t try both of them at the same time.” Surge replied.

“Okay, I’m getting in the jacuzzi.” Manic said, picking up his robe. He got up and headed into the bathroom.

Surge laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling. “This is insane.” She muttered. She heard the jacuzzi tub start, then looked around for something to do.

Surge picked up the tv remote and turned on the tv.

“The heck?!” Manic yelled. “Stop it, you stupid thing!”

Surge turned the tv off, then got up and walked over to the door.

 Manic groaned.

Surge knocked on the door. “Manic?”

“Help me out.” Manic said. “I can’t shut off the tub.”

 Surge opened the door.

Manic was sitting in the nearly overflowing tub and trying to shut it off.

Surge walked over and turned the dial.

 The water shut off.

Manic eased back in the tub, leaning against the inflatable pillow. “Ah, this is great.”

Surge nodded. “It’s better than what I grew up in.”

Manic sighed. “So you were a prisoner instead of a princess?”

Surge sat on the ledge around the tub. “I think the only reason he adopted me and Kit was to use me to seal the treaty.”

“I need to apologize to Ma.” Manic said. “I wasn’t a pawn, you were.”

 Surge glanced at Manic.

“I had so much more freedom as a kid.” Manic said. “It sounds like you didn’t have much of a childhood.”

Surge pulled her knee to her chest. “My childhood ended the day I was adopted.”

Manic blinked back tears. “Oh, babe, I’m sorry.”

 “Wait; Babe?” Surge asked.

Manic tilted his head back and groaned softly.

Surge leaned over and ruffled his spines. “It’s fine, Cute stuff.”

Manic smiled. “So, what’s something you really wanted to do as a kid, but didn’t get to do?” He asked. “Don’t worry if it seems silly. This is your weekend and the reporters don’t care about me as much as they do my sibs.”

Surge thought about it. “Laser tag, uh… go to an arcade.” She replied. “One of those indoor trampoline places. Get a snowcone. Buy my own clothes.”

Manic smirked. “Awesome.” He said. “A’ight, we’ll do all of those things and whatever else you think of as soon as I’m done here.”

Surge got up. “Thanks, I’ll let you do that.” She replied. She left the room.

Manic sighed as he drummed his fingers on the ledge around the tub. “I can’t believe she never got to do this stuff as a kid.” He thought. “Ma let us do all of that.”

He bit his lip as he thought of poor little Kit being trapped back at that palace and there was probably nothing he could do.

“Maybe I should ask the royal lawyer about what can be done for him.” Manic thought. “It’s the least I can do.”

Manic glanced at the door, listening to Surge’s muffled laughter and the tv. “I wonder what that guy’s deal is.” He thought. “Ma would’ve given him the treaty anyway. He didn’t have to adopt kids he didn’t care about just to seal the alliance, did he? Man, I should’ve paid attention in history class.”

“I’ll have Tails or Shadow check into it when I get back.” Manic said under his breath.

Manic and Surge walked in their room after a day of doing some of the things Surge wanted to do.

Surge flopped down on the bed and fell asleep.

Manic laughed. “Glad you had fun.” He said. He laid down beside Surge and stroked her spines.

Surge rolled onto her side and tossed her arm around Manic.

“I wonder if I can somehow press some kind of charges against that jerk.” Manic thought.
