Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Manic’s wonderful life ❯ A glimpse of what could be ( Chapter 2 )
Manic slowly sat up, rubbing his head and moaning.
It was daylight now and he saw that he hit a tree.
“Ah, I must've knocked myself out.” Manic muttered. He slowly tried to get to his feet when he felt something help him up. He looked up.
The Oracle was helping him up. “Ah, Manic, what are you doing out here?”
Manic sighed. “Sonic and Sonia don't need me.” He said. “Cripes, they could get more done without me.”
“Do you really believe they don't need you?” The Oracle asked.
Manic shrugged. “I guess. They could get anyone to hack into stuff or steal important stuff from Robotnik.” He replied. “All I do is get kidnapped.”
The Oracle picked up Manic's hoverboard. “Come with me; I have something to show you.”
“Alright, whatever.” Manic muttered. “I have a feeling you'd force me to do it anyway.”
The Oracle chuckled.
The first place Manic and the Oracle arrived in was some fancy palace in Robotropolis.
Manic looked around. “Whoa, is this the palace?”
The Oracle nodded.
Manic grinned. “Crashin’! I knew my bro and sis could do it.”
The Oracle shook his head.
Manic was about to ask the Oracle what he meant by that until he saw Sonia, dressed in royal robes, walking down the stairs with her arm wrapped around… Bartleby’s arm.
“Ugh. Kill me now if this is our future.” Manic said, slapping his hand over his face.
Sonia finally got close to Manic.
“What do you see in that pompous jerk, Sis?” Manic asked. “Hey, are you listening?”
“She can't hear or see you, Manic.” The Oracle said. “No one can. You were never born.”
Manic did a double take. “Do what?”
“Just go with it.” The Oracle said.
Sonia called her maid, Mindy LeTour, in.
“Yes, Madam?” Mindy asked.
“Has the queen finally come around?” Sonia asked.
“No, she's scheduled for robotization today, Madam.” Mindy replied.
Manic gasped. “No.”
Sonia sighed. “Oh, such a shame.”
“Indeed.” Bartleby said. “Your mother and brother could've been allowed to re-join high society had she not joined the resistance.”
Manic seethed. “You all shouldn’t have backed him up in the first place!”
“Settle down, Manic.” The Oracle said. “We're leaving now.”
“First off, let me ask you something.” Manic replied. “So… Sonia turned her back on our family. She married Bartleby, so she's set for life unless Ro-butt-nik bites the hand that feeds him, right?”
“Right.” The Oracle said.
Manic sighed. “I'm seeing Sonic next, huh?”
Manic and the Oracle stood in Robotnik's fortress, near the roboticizer.
“I'm glad they can't see me.” Manic said. He turned around and froze. “Oh, no.”
Sonic, Tails, and Sally were shackled with the electronic shackles and were being dragged in by Swatbots.
Robotnik laughed maniacally at Sonic. “So you're the one causing all the trouble. You're the leader of the resistance.”
Sonic huffed. “Just shut up and get this over with.”
Robotnik nodded. “Alright.” He said. “We'll start with your girlfriend.”
Sonic tried his best to break free of the electronic shackles as the Swatbots shoved Sally into the roboticizer.
“Sal!” Sonic cried.
Sally wiped tears out of her eyes. “I love you, Sonic.”
Sonic realized there was nothing he could do as the machine started up. He stopped fighting. “Love you, Sal. I'm sorry.”
Manic looked away as the machine turned Sally into a cyborg. He finally noticed Sonic trying to comfort Tails until the little fox was pulled away from him.
Then, it was Tails' turn to go into the roboticizer.
Manic looked at the Oracle. “He's just torturing my brother now, huh?”
“Of course.” The Oracle replied. “It's not enough to defeat Sonic physically, he has to break him psychologically.”
Manic saw Sonic being dragged into the roboticizer by his spines. “Please don't make me watch this.”
“Oh, what's the matter, hedgehog?” Robotnik asked Sonic. “You don't like my machine? Must be a family thing. Your mother, Queen Aleena, didn't like it either.”
Sonic's eyes widened. “Queen Aleena is my mother? I-” He started screaming.
Finally, Manic and the Oracle made it back to the forest.
“Thanks for getting me out of there.” Manic said. “But what was that about? Sonic and Sonia could reunite without me and defeat Robotnik.”
“They need you, Manic.” The Oracle replied. “You know why Sonic got caught back there?”
Manic shook his head.
“Because he doesn't have your hacking skills.” The Oracle said. “He got caught trying to hack into the security system.”
Manic sighed. “If I had been there, they wouldn't have been roboticized?”
The Oracle nodded.
“So if they had reunited, that still would've happened?” Manic asked.
“Yes, because you have skills they don't have.” The Oracle replied. “They need you as much as you need them. Your skills combined make you a perfect team.”
“Well, sort of.” Manic said.
The Oracle chuckled. “Yes, now do you understand?”
“Yeah.” Manic said. “So… am I dead, dreaming, or is this really happening?”
“That's not important.” The Oracle replied. “What’s important is that you've learned that you have a purpose even if you don't have super powers.”
Manic groaned. “Yeah, whatever, I still want answers.”
“Manic?” Sonic asked. He patted Manic's face. “Wake up.”
“You probably have to slap him harder than that.” Sonia said, folding her arms.
Sonic gulped. “I hope he's not-”
Manic woke up. “I thought I told you not to come looking for me.”
Sonic scoffed. “Well, you're welcome.” He said. “What're you doing? You had us worried about you.”
“We thought you got kidnapped again.” Sonia replied.
Manic slowly sat up. “No, but thanks for looking for me.” He said. “I'm sorry I left.”
“So are you coming back with us or are you really set to go back to Mobodoon?” Sonic asked.
“I'll go back with you.” Manic replied.
Sonic picked up Manic's hoverboard and handed it back to him.
“I don't know if this was one of my weird dreams or not, but I have a pretty good story to tell you.” Manic said, getting in his hoverboard.
“You can tell us when we get back to the van.” Sonic replied. “There's some chili dogs at the new chili dog stand with my name on them.”
The siblings raced back to the van.
