Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Road trip ❯ Chapter 2
“Oh, finally!” Sonia exclaimed. “We’re in town.”
Shadow turned down a side street in a nice little neighborhood in Central Mobius.
Sonic scoffed. “We’ve driven through several sections of Mobius and they all look exactly the same as Mobotropolis.” He said. “So what’s the big deal about road trips?”
Manic shrugged. “Depends on where you go, I guess.”
Shadow flinched as they drove by a little rundown building. “Why is there a strip club in the middle of a residential area?”
“Don’t get any ideas.” Sonia said, glaring at Shadow.
Shadow gave Sonia a look. “You’re not going there to see the male dancers either.”
“I’ve lived in rough neighborhoods, but I have never seen one of those outside of a town.” Manic said.
Shadow turned the car down another street and pulled the van into the driveway. He parked the van.
“Here we are.” Sonic said, unbuckling his seatbelt.
They all got out of the van.
A gust of cold air raked through their fur and spines.
Sonic, Sally, and Manic rubbed their arms.
“It’s freezing here.” Manic said.
“Yeah, it’s Midwest Mobius.” Sonia replied. “It’s usually freezing in the spring. What did you expect?”
“To feel like springtime at home.” Manic said flatly. “I didn’t know it would still be cold here.”
Knuckles opened the front door. “Hey, you made it just in time.” He said, walking down the steps. “I’ll help with the bags.”
Tails flew out of the house and tackled Sonic in a hug. “I’m so glad you made it, big bro.”
Sonic laughed. “Same here, little bro.”
They toured the large house with Tails and Knuckles leading the way.
“So here’s your room, Manic.” Tails said.
Manic stepped into his room. “I’m not sleeping here.” He said, rubbing his arms. “It’s too cold in here and I’ve already had a hibernation attempt once.”
Sonia and Shadow walked in.
“We’ll take it.” Sonia said. “Shadow can buy a mini heater.”
Shadow sat on the bed. “This thing is as hard as a brick.
Sonia flipped up a corner of the mattress and gagged at the site of dark green splotches on the bottom of the mattress. “Eew! It’s nasty.”
“Just sleep on the couch, Manic.” Shadow said. “No one’s sleeping in this disgusting basement.”
“I’m so sorry, everyone.” Tails replied. “The pictures online looked better than… any of the downstairs really.”
“It does have a sweet gaming room.” Sonic said. “We can play pool or foosball down here without disturbing anyone upstairs.”
Knuckles started walking away. “I guess I’m sleeping on the loveseat.” He muttered.
Tails checked his watch. “Alright, we have to be at the awards ceremony in an hour. Let’s go so we can get our seats.”
Three hours later, everyone shuffled into the house with Tails trailing behind them with his shoulders slumped.
Sonic patted Tails on the shoulder. “You did your best, little bro.” He said. “We’ll get you some ice cream tomorrow.”
“We’ll watch a movie and order a pizza tonight.” Manic added.
They gathered on the couch to watch a movie while Sonia, who was typing on her phone, headed to the bathroom.
Tails picked up the remote and put it on Mystery Science Theater 3000: the movie.
Manic started sniffing. “What is that smell?” He asked. He got up to look around.
“It smells like a wet dog.” Sally said.
“But why are we just now smelling it and it’s that strong?” Sonic asked.
Tails paused the movie. “The ad said pet free and smoke free.”
Manic motioned out the window. “There’s a dog about… thirty feet away, in the neighbor’s yard.”
“No way was that thing even close to the porch.” Shadow replied. “I’m sitting in front of the door and I haven’t seen or heard anything.”
Sonia ran in. “We have to go.” She said, hyperventilating. “Please. Let’s go.”
“Why?” Shadow asked. He got up and held Sonia. “What happened?”
“I was searching for a good local pizza place while I was in the bathroom and I had this feeling like something was in the room.” Sonia replied. “Then the soap bottle slid off of the sink, and I swear this actually happened, the bottle hovered in the air for a few seconds before falling.”
“After the mystery wet dog smell, I don’t doubt you.” Shadow said.
Manic shuddered. “Let’s just go.” He said. “This is really creepy.”
“I agree.” Sally said.
“Pack up, we’ll get a hotel.” Shadow said.
