Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Road trip ❯ The next day ( Chapter 3 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Everyone gathered at a large picnic table outside an ice cream parlor since it was warmer today than it was the day before.

Manic and Sonic stared blankly at Knuckles as he contentedly ate his grape flavored ice cream.

Knuckles finally noticed the stares he was given. “What?”

“Dude, that’s so gross.” Manic said. “Who in their right mind eats grape flavored ice cream?”

“Who in their right mind eats lemon flavored fruit snacks dipped in cola?” Knuckles asked.

“Ugh, I was five when I did that, Knux.” Manic muttered. “I don’t eat that junk now.”

“So what are your plans for the rest of the week, Tails?” Sonic asked.

Tails wiped his mouth. “I’m thinking about visiting all the museums I passed on the way here while I’m on the way home.” He said. “Unless you all want to join, I’ll fly back on my own.”

“What about Knuckles?” Sally asked. “Didn’t you ride with him?”

“I have to head out early.” Knuckles replied. “I don’t quite trust Rouge with the Master Emerald yet.”

Manic dropped his half eaten ice cream cone on the table. “What?”

“I know I’ve only started dating her a week ago, but Shadow’s known her for years and I trust his judgement.” Knuckles said.

Manic bit his lip and eased away from the table.

“Sorry, Manic, she wasn’t interested in you.” Shadow said. “She seems to believe you’re a stoner.”

“Why does anyone think I’m a stoner?” Manic mumbled under his breath.

 Knuckles grimaced. “This is awkward.”

“While I’d like the museum, the boys won’t like it.” Sally said.

“I wouldn’t like it as much as I would like an art museum.” Sonia said.

Tails nodded. “Alright, I’ll see you all back in Mobotropolis.” He replied. He got up and flew toward Knuckles’ car to get his backpack.

Knuckles got up and followed Tails.

“So, we’ll sight see on our way home?” Sonia asked.

 “Sounds good.” Shadow agreed.

“Fine with me, as long as we see the world’s largest rubber band ball.” Sonic replied.

 “Sounds like fun.” Sally said.

 Manic shrugged. “Eh.”

“We tried to sell her on the idea of dating you, Manic.” Sonia said. “She wasn’t interested. I can set you up with Amy if you’d like.”

Manic groaned. “She’s a clingy stalker.” He said. “I’m pretty sure if I accidentally ticked her off somehow, she’d go all Fatal Attraction on me.”

“She’s changed. She’s not stalking Sonic anymore and has gotten help.” Sonia replied.

Manic shook his head. “Still not interested in her.”

Shadow got up. “We have to get on the road if we want to be home on Sunday.”

Two hours later, Sonic pulled the van into the parking lot of a gas station.

“Alright.” Sonic said, parking the van in front of a gas pump. “Let’s stretch our legs and grab a bite to eat. Oh, and grab me a chili dog, Sal. Gas stations don’t count.”

Sally ruffled Sonic’s head spines. “Alright, fine.”

Everyone except Sonic heads into the gas station.

Manic slipped over to the snack freezer and got some sushi while the others were in the bathroom. He paid for his food at the self checkout and hurriedly ate before the others came out.

An hour later, Sonic started squirming. “Okay, Manic, do you want to drive?”

 Manic exhaled loudly. “Huh? What?”

Sonic glanced back at Manic. “Are you okay?”

Manic wiped his forehead. “I feel awful.”

Sonic pulled the car into a nearby rest stop. “Shadow, you’ll have to drive.” He said. He parked the car.

Everyone got out and walked to the rest stop shed.

Sonic walked alongside Manic as the latter shuffled along. “I didn’t realize you got motion sickness.”

 “Uh-huh.” Manic muttered.

 They finally reached the bathrooms.

Manic raced into the men’s room.

Sonic and Shadow started to walk in the men’s room.

 Sonia grabbed Shadow’s arm.

“We’re not standing around waiting on you three to get out of the bathroom.” Sally said, grabbing Sonic by the shoulder. “We’ve had a few creeps stare at us and one of them said something to Sonia.”

“What?” Shadow asked. “Who was it?”

“It was back at the gas station.” Sonia replied. “I don’t even know what he said to me and he left before you came out of the restroom.”

 Shadow grit his teeth.

“I think I’m finally accepting you as my brother-in-law, Shads.” Sonic said, patting Shadow on the back.

Shadow gave Sonic a death glare, then took Sonia’s hand. “We’ll try this.” He said, leading Sonia into the family bathroom.

 Sonic and Sally exchanged glances.

Sally shrugged. “It’s definitely a creative solution.”

“Do you want to do that instead?” Sonic asked.

“Yeah, all the stares I’ve gotten have creeped me out.” Sally replied.

Shadow and Sonia came out and let Sonic and Sally in.

 Sonia looked around. “Where’s Manic?”

“I guess he’s still in the bathroom.” Shadow replied.

“He looked awful.” Sonia said. “Can you please go check on him?”

“Sonia, if a guy is in the bathroom that long, it’s usually bad.” Shadow replied. “He’s on his own.”

Sonic and Sally came out of the bathroom.

“Is Manic still in there?” Sonic asked.

 “Seems to be.” Shadow replied.

Dr. Eggman shook his head as he came out of the bathroom.

“Ugh.” Sonic muttered. “I was hoping to get a break from you.”

“The feeling is mutual, you blue pincushion.” Dr. Eggman said. “Oh, and by the way, your brother is in there throwing up and asking why he ate that sushi. You’ll have a fun car ride.”

Sonic groaned and raced into the bathroom.

Dr. Eggman chuckled as he walked away. “That makes this wasted trip almost worth it.”

Sonic dragged Manic out of the bathroom by his spines. “What is wrong with you?!” He snapped. “You should know better than to eat that.”

“Ow, I’m sorry.” Manic muttered. “It looked really good.”

“I’m surprised you never got a tapeworm, Manic.” Shadow muttered.

“I’ll buy him some medicine at the gift shop.” Sonia said, digging through her purse. “Come with me, Sonic.”

Sonic followed Sonia into the shop.
