Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sonia: the Guild ❯ The Underground hotel ( Chapter 4 )
Shadow stood at the boarded up doors of the hotel. “It’s gone.”
Manic noticed a sign and tilted it so he could see it in the streetlight. “It says to go around the back.”
Shadow, Sonia, and Manic walked around the back.
Manic felt around the brick wall, then pushed down on one brick that was slightly lighter than the other.
The metal door opened, revealing a brightly lit staircase.
Manic led the way up the stairs. “Something’s not right.” He said in a low tone.
“Because we haven’t seen any assassins?” Sonia asked. “Why would they hunt for us if they think you’re dead?”
Manic glanced over his shoulder. “Because they’d want Shadow dead too.”
Shadow noticed a few dark figures in one of the corridors. “Assassins.” He whispered. “Keep going, I’ll catch up.”
Sonia and Manic walked away. They finally reached the door as the sound of a fight echoed through the hallway.
“Shadow.” Sonia cried.
Manic grabbed Sonia’s arm before she could run off. “He’ll be fine.” He whispered. He picked the lock to the door and pulled Sonia inside.
Manic groaned as he suddenly dropped to the ground.
Sonia knelt down. “Manic? What happened?”
The lights suddenly came on.
Manic groaned as he frantically moved his hands to his chest in an effort to stop the bleeding.
Sonia pressed down on Manic’s hands. “You’ll be okay.” She said, voice shaking. “Just-”
Surge kicked Sonia out of the way, then pressed one foot on her back. “I knew you’d fake your death, Manic.”
Sonia gasped as she finally got her breath.
Manic groaned. “I’m… pretty sure… it won’t… be fake… now.”
Surge pressed down harder on Sonia’s back as the latter fought to get up. “It’s a shame, Manic, you’re still pretty cute to say it looks like you’re starting to get a dad bod already.”
Manic coughed, bringing up a little blood.
Surge grimaced. “Ugh.” She muttered. She raised the gun, pointing it at Manic’s head. “I still can’t bring myself to let you suffer.”
Shadow came in and shot the gun out of Surge’s hand.
Surge stumbled back.
Sonia scrambled to her feet.
“I’ll take care of him, you deal with Surge.” Shadow said, kneeling down beside Manic.
Sonia ran over to stop Surge grabbing the gun.
Shadow scooped Manic up and ran out of the penthouse.
Sonia reached the gun before Surge could.
Surge tackled Sonia.
Sonia tried to fire the gun, but nothing happened.
“Huh, it’s empty.” Surge said.
Sonia threw the gun aside, then started to pull her gun out.
Surge tried to wrestle it out of Sonia’s hands.
Both females lost their grip on the gun. The gun went flying through the window.
Surge got up and drew her sword out of hethe scabbard on her back.
Sonia rolled her eyes. “Ah, that’s not fair.”
Surge scoffed. “You expect an assassin to fight fair?”
Sonia noticed a sword on the wall and ran over to get it.
“So what were you complaining about?” Surge said, tightening her grip on her sword.
Sonia and Surge started fighting, their swords clashing against each other.
Sonia pressed her sword against Surge’s sword with all of her might. “All of this over a stupid car?”
“It wasn’t just about the flipping car!” Surge yelled. She pushed back as hard as she could. “He broke my heart!”
Sonia knocked the sword out of Surge’s hand, then pinned her to the wall. “That gives you a right to kill my brother?”
“It certainly would make me feel better in a sick way, I suppose.” Surge said.
“What happened?” Sonia asked.
Surge sighed. “We started dating as soon as he started the Guild.” She replied. “Things were great. We were engaged for a month.”
Sonia furrowed her brow.
Surge held up Manic’s old medallion that she had tucked inside her tank top. “No rings, to keep from breaking Guild rules of no attachments.” She said, “So we gave each other something we found valuable. We were going to get married in secret.”
Sonia slightly loosened her grip on her sword.
“Then he says he wants out of the Guild.” Surge replied. “That he couldn’t live this kind of life with kids. It was all news to me. Anyway, I told him I still had debts to pay and wasn’t ready to quit anyway. I didn’t want kids either.”
Sonia nodded.
“We got into an argument.” Surge said. “He finally agreed that he would reason things out over dinner. He left to pick up our food in my car, wrecked it. When I asked him to pay for his half, it started a fight again and he said he was done. So here we are.”
Sonia sighed.
Surge studied Sonia for a reaction.
“I’ll make you a deal.” Sonia said. “I don’t think you’re lying because Manic never mentioned his medallion being missing. It’s a family heirloom.”
Surge raised an eyebrow.
“I’ll arrest you, make sure you have immunity in exchange for your testimony against the Guild.” Sonia said. “You’ll avoid prison, slip off to somewhere outside of Mobotropolis and live a new life.”
Surge eased her hand up to the handle of the blade.
“Or you can try to fight back and die.” Sonia replied. “Shadow taught me all of his skills. If you somehow manage to kill me, you’ll have Shadow after you. You know very well what he’s capable of and he won’t take losing another wife well.”
Surge dropped her hands. “Deal.”
Sonia nodded. “I’ll step back and let you turn to face the wall and put your hands behind your back.” She replied. “Don’t try anything.”
Sonia stepped back.
Surge did as she was told.
Sonia pulled her handcuffs out of her coat pocket and put them on Surge.
