A/N: Why won't anyone update this story? It's not like it's terrible or anything. Please R&R. I'm begging you all to, please!

Disclaimer: I don't own any of these characters. Sega and the Sonic Team do. I hear they're either making a new Sonic Adventure, or bringing Sonic Adventure 1 to GCN with extra stuff. Look out for it cause I will.

Chapter 2: Enter Knuckles

11:08 Desert Area

"Just let it go," said the bat that had earlier that day tried to make it off with the Master Emerald, "You just don't know when to give up, do you?"

"What are you talking about, that emerald's mine," Knuckles replied, "You got that?"

It had been a normal day on the Floating Island. Knuckles had decided to do a nice little jog through Mushroom Hill. As he came to check on the altar of the Master Emerald, he saw it gone, and some footsteps leading away from it. He fallowed the footsteps to the edge of the island on the Mushroom Hill part. He then sees a helicopter taking off the island. He shouts to the helicopter pilot to stop, but the copter just keeps going.

"Damn, now I have to leave the island again." He then gets an idea. He summons the Super Emeralds and uses they're power to hold up the Island do it won't fall into the ocean again. Then he runs straight off the off the edge of the island and immediately goes into a glide, gaining speed and slowly catching up to the slower moving copter.

"Gottcha," Knuckles said as he caught up to the copter. Making sure he wasn't seen, he glided over the copter as it started to descend to the mainland. Knuckles saw that it was a desert area with some ruins you could probably hide in. `Gotta stop this guy before he lands and escapes in the desert ruins,' Knuckles thought. When he felt he was right above the copter's tail, he did a drill drive straight down which went straight through the tail. This caused the copter to be unable to direct itself and started to fall towards the ocean. Suddenly, the cockpit door flew off and a female bat suddenly started to fly out of the helicopter. `The thief is a girl!' Knuckles thought as he saw her fly to a certain height, give him a sneer look, and then went into a glide towards the ruins. Knuckles started to glide right after her.

After arriving in the ruins in hot pursuit of the female bat, Knuckles was running straight after her telling her to stop and to give him back the Master Emerald. Suddenly in the middle of an old building with the roof caved in. She suddenly tripped on a rock and dropped the emerald in the middle of the room. The bat quickly got up and tried to grab it, but Knuckles tackled here back down. She kicked him away and started for the emerald again, but Knuckles landed a spin jump on her head, knocking her down. Knuckles then use the rebound off her head to land near the emerald, but as he landed, she suddenly did a jump kick and knocked him to the other side of the room. She ran up to do another kick, but Knuckles grabbed her feet and spun her to the other side of the room. They then walked to either side of the Master Emerald, catching they're breath but trying to keep the other person from getting to near to the emerald.

Right now he was trying to tell this bat, which she says her name is Rouge the Bat, why the Master Emerald was important and why he needed to keep it protected.

"The Master Emerald has special powers that can neutralize the power of the Chaos Emerald, and that makes it very powerful… What the!?…" As Knuckles looked up, he saw a very familiar pod with a claw that had just grabbed the Master Emerald.

"Whaa… Thief!" Rouge shouted

"Look whose calling who a thief," Knuckles wisecracked

The pilot of the pod looked over the side to see Knuckles and a bat. He was the one and only Dr. Eggman.

"I came here following the signal of the emerald, this is the Master Emerald is it not?" Dr. Eggman asked.

"It's you… Dr. Eggman," Knuckles said in disbelief.

"So that's Dr. Eggman," Rouge said in wonder.

"Well I guess I can use it for something, see you later knucklehead," Dr. Eggman said leaving.

"Not if I can help it," Knuckles said, suddenly jumping up and breaking the emerald into 12 pieces that flew off miles and miles away.

As soon Knuckles landed, Rouge gave a blood curdling scream and grabbed Knuckles while shaking him ferociously.

"What do you think you're doing, and what have you done to my emerald?" Rouge shouted in Knuckles face. Knuckles brushed her off and jumped back

"I did that to prevent the Master Emerald from being stolen you idiot," Knuckles spat back, "If it's in pieces, I can restore it, and by the way it's NOT your emerald."

"It doesn't matter, I'll look into this once I get back to the base," Eggman said in depart.

"I despise anyone who takes jewels from me," Rouge said watching Eggman leave. She then turned to face Knuckles, "All the world's gems are mine to keep."

"Well we'll see about that bat girl," Knuckles said as he sensed the pieces of the emerald north, south, and northwest. He saw Rouge go in a southern direction, so he went to get the northern and northwestern pieces since he didn't feel like racing her for the southern pieces.

He went north running between the ancient buildings. He saw a canyon up ahead as he ran. Suddenly he fell down a trap door in the middle of a building he decided to run through as a shortcut. He fell down a slide and came out in an area of the bottom of the canyon he was headed to. As he looked at his surroundings, he saw the canyon was actually part of an abandoned ancient civilization that might have been a place of worship. Plus he saw on some walls ancient script that reminded him of some of the writing in some of the ancient echidnan civilization buildings on the Floating Island!

Stage 02: Wild Canyon

Mission: Find three pieces of the Master Emerald

Knuckles grabbed some rings that would give him temporary invincibility since he had heard of some laser gun robots patrolling the area here from the last time he talked Tails in his Mystic Ruins workshop. He ran forward and saw a big hole with strong winds coming out of it. It was so strong, Knuckles could see giant parts of pedestals floating in the air because of the winds. He couldn't feel that there were and emerald shards from were he was standing, so he took a chance and glided straight into the winds. He immediately was forced out of his glide and was sent head over heels up through another hole in the ceiling that lead to the higher part of the canyon. He was able to get himself into a glide now that he was at the top of the winds and could not be forced any higher. He started gliding to this statue, just to get away from the winds, and then felt the presence of a Master Emerald shard nearby.

He glided over some robots that he remembered from Tails were called Rhinos. He ended his glide at the base of the statue and read some of the inscriptions on it. The only words he was able to translate, though, said that this was called the Lonely Statue. Knuckles felt that the emerald shard must be near the top of the statue, so he jumped up, grabbed at the stone with his knuckles to snag it, and started to climb up the statue pretty fast considering all of the extra practice he had gained in his many adventures. At the statue's head he saw another platform higher up that Knuckles' instincts told him the shard was there. Knuckles did a spin jump like Sonic's, except he couldn't spin as much as fast, but still did as much damage as Sonic's, and then at the height of his jump he went into a glide and barely caught the bottom of the platform. He pulled himself up only to have his rings knocked out of him as a robot's laser shot him. He quickly dodged the next shot, grabbed a ring that was going to disappear from being used and instantly recognized the robot as a Gun Hawk. He remembered Tails telling him about them from the lecture he had given Knuckles and Sonic. This is how Knuckles was able to recognize them and remember they're weak points.

He, knowing how a Gun Hawk could aim vertically faster than it can horizontally, immediately started making a circle around it. The Gun Hawk tried to lock on but Knuckles wide turn was hard to keep up with. By the time he got a lock on him it was punched out. He was glad right then that he, unlike Sonic, listened to Tails when he gave them info of the new robotic line of GUN robots that were being used by many different companies now. He looked around were the robot used to be and saw that the robot must have been protecting the shard for when some archaeologists came along to examine it.

"Well at least I got one," Knuckles now jumped off the platform and went into a glide, suddenly now sensing another piece on the other side of the canyon. He glided all the way over to the other side to see what looked like a fallen sphinx head half buried in the sand. As he started towards it, the emerald piece he was holding suddenly lit up and started shaking. Then another piece suddenly appeared out of nowhere and started spinning around the sphinx head. Knuckles gave a small chuckle of seeing the piece because it seemed like it was chasing the peacock that was running around the head.

"So far so good," Knuckles said as he took the piece and ran back to the whirlpool sensing no more pieces at the top of the canyon. As he watched the whirlpool from an upraised platform, he tried to figure out a way to get to the lower part of the canyon. He suddenly slipped but was able to get himself to land on his feet. He looked around himself and saw himself surrounded by several Rhinos. There was no place that he could glide to without landing at least once, and the Rhinos would be able to hit him while recovering from the landing. The best way to kill them is to let them race to you and hit them, but with so many, attacking one would allow an opening for another to attack. So all Knuckles could do was back up away from them, but as he took a step back, he suddenly felt only air below him.

He fell through the hole and immediately on instinct went into a glide towards the nearest platform. When he landed, full of adrendiline from the close call. He felt that the last emerald piece was right next to him, but all he saw was a block. He then looked around the block and found marks on the ground where the block might have been able to move before.

He then got an idea. He locked his Knuckles onto the block and then pulled on the block to move as if in a tug of war. The block moved aside. When Knuckles felt he had moved it far enough, he let go and ran around the block to see what he uncovered. He saw an emerald shard in the ground. He picked it up, and realizing he got about every emerald shard in the canyon area, he decided to see if he could find away out of the canyon. He looked at the whirlpool and got an idea. He walked near enough to the whirlpool to not get caught in it. He took out the Master Emerald shards he had and concentrated on them. Suddenly the whirlpool's power increased, and Knuckles felt that it was enough to get him over the canyon wall. He jumped in and once again was thrown head over heels into the air. This time he went much higher and was able to use his momentum from being thrust upward so quickly to allow his glide to be pushed even higher. This was enough to send him just barely over the canyon wall. As he was able to land on flat ground, out of the canyon, he felt that the emerald shards he sensed to the south were moving further away. He didn't know how Rouge had found them, but now he felt chasing her was useless. He then went west to get the other emerald shards and planned to get Sonic's and Tails' help to track down the bat. He just hoped Sonic wouldn't be too busy to help since trouble always seems to follow Sonic. Knuckles now found a road west and started down on it.

A/N: OK, well. It took me two weeks to right this. That was because I had to go to the camp of evil and annoying kids and I was a counselor of the worst group. Plus I wasn't even being paid! Well at least this was the last day of it. Now I can relax and write stories. The next chapter will be about Tails. After all 3 characters are done, I'll give a surprise. I would give away the surprise, but I need to find a word in the dictionary first. Hope you liked how Knuckles is and please tell me if you want more Knuckles combat.
