Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ The Chaos Controller ❯ Starline complex ( Chapter 3 )
Bright and early that morning, Shadow showed up at the Starline complex on his motorcycle. He parked it out front and stepped off, keeping his trenchcoat closed.
Two security drones stopped Shadow.
“What business do you have here, sir?” One drone asked.
“None of your business.” Shadow said, pushing his way by the drones.
The drones quickly caught up to Shadow and stopped him again.
“If you don’t leave after the count of three, we’re authorized to use deadly force.” One drone said.
Shadow slowly opened his trench coat. “One, two.” He said, reaching his hand into his coat. He pulled his guns out and fired at the two bots, destroying them. “Three.”
Shadow stepped over the bots and continued up the steps.

Shadow walked into the main office, where Mobians and robots manned the phone banks. “Listen up.”
No one paid attention.
Shadow fired a warning shot into the large wall monitor showing the day’s goals.
The Mobians flinched. One of them, a male fennec, slid under his desk.
“You all think it’s funny to rip off the most vulnerable in society?” Shadow asked. “Can you all sleep at night, knowing you’ve robbed innocent Mobians?”
The Mobians laughed.
The robots seemed to be recording the events.
Shadow fired some more shots into robots.
The Mobians screamed. The little fennec shrieked.
“Do this again and you’ll answer to me next time.” Shadow said. “Do you swear not to do this again?”
The Mobians quickly offered panicked agreements.
“Then leave.” Shadow said.
The Mobians ran out.
The fennec, who Shadow finally recognized as Kit, crawled out from under the desk.
“Kit?” Shadow asked.
Kit cowered and pinned his ears back. “Yes?”
“You’re safe; go wait by my motorcycle and I’ll take you to a safe house.” Shadow said.
Kit nodded. “Yes, sir.” He replied. He ran out.
Shadow took off his inhibitor rings and waited for his power to start overloading. As soon as he started glowing red, he blasted the room.
*
Shadow left the burning building and found Kit by his motorcycle. “Let’s go.”
“Why are you doing this?” Kit asked.
“They ripped off a friend of mine.” Shadow replied. He climbed onto his motorcycle. “Hop on.”
Kit hopped onto the seat, in front of Shadow. Shadow started his motorcycle and drove off with the little fennec.

Shadow parked in front of Aleena’s house. “You’ll be safe here, Kit.” He said, climbing off the motorcycle.
Kit glanced at a black car in the driveway as he climbed off the motorcycle. “Oh, Surge is here.”
Shadow walked Kit up the driveway. “This is her fiancé’s mother’s house.”
Sonic opened the door as Shadow and Kit climbed the steps. “We saw the news.” He said. “Manic and Surge have been worried about Kit.”
Sonic walked Kit and Shadow inside and shut the door behind them. “Kit’s fine.”
Sonic, Shadow, and Kit made it into the living room.
Sonia, Sally, and Tails sat on the couch while Aleena was in her chair and Manic and Surge were on the loveseat.
Kit hurried over to Surge and hugged her.
“Glad you’re alive, Drippy.” Surge said, ruffling Kit’s bangs.
“Shadow, this doesn’t change anything.” Sonia said.
“It’s stopping them.” Sonic said. “Sis, do you think I was paid to fight Eggman to start with?”
“I did until you worded it that way.” Sonia replied.
Shadow sat down in the other chair. “I need all the info I can get on this operation.”
“I don’t know anything about it.” Manic said, shrugging. “It’s all news to me.”
“Same here.” Surge replied.
“Low levels like me are just following the chain of command.” Kit said. “I didn’t like it and neither did some of the others, but there were some that did. The ones behind it are Farrell and Starline. Eggman might know about it, but it’s hard to say. I never had a lot of dealings with him.”
“I worked under Farrell, but this was new.” Manic replied. “He handled the petty stuff like fencing stolen goods and some hacking, but that was all.”
“I hadn’t heard of it either.” Surge said. “We did espionage work at other corporations and government offices that interfered with him and the big boss.”
Aleena sighed. “Manic, I thought I raised you better than that.”
“Yeah, but you didn’t supervise me twenty-four/seven.” Manic replied.
“I’m not dealing with them if that’s what you’re worried about, Aleena.” Shadow said, motioning to Manic and Surge. “So what are you going to do if I’m not able to get your money back?”
“I have a guest room at my place.” Tails said. “She’s more than welcome to stay there.”
“I don’t have anywhere to go.” Kit said, hanging his head.
“You do.” Manic replied. “Don’t worry.”
Shadow got up. “Sonic, you need to stay with them in case they try to retaliate.”
Sonic nodded. “No problem.”
“See you.” Shadow said, heading for the door.
Sonia got up and caught up with Shadow. “I’ll show you out.”
Shadow glanced at Sonia. “Alright, then.”
Sonia walked Shadow outside. “I appreciate you looking after her when my brothers and I aren’t able to.”
“I appreciated all she did for me and Rouge.” Shadow said.
“Your wife?” Sonia asked.
“Yeah.” Shadow replied. “She died a year ago.”
Sonia sighed. “I’m sorry; I lost my dear Knuckles two years ago and it’s still hard when our anniversary and his birthday rolls around.”
“I’m sorry for your loss.” Shadow said.
“Thanks.” Sonia replied.
Shadow climbed onto his motorcycle.
“Be careful.” Sonia said.
“I’ll do my best.” Shadow replied. He started his motorcycle and drove away.
