For You Ch 3

“You realize that you don’t have to come with me later.” Akatsuki said glancing out of the corner of his eye at Hanabusa. The two of them were making their way to the gate for the walk to class with the rest of the Night class.

Ignoring his cousin’s comment Hanabusa asked, “Are you sure you’re all right?”

Kain rolled his eyes because this was the eighth time the blonde asked the question since they woke up thirty minutes ago. “I’ll be fine.” Truthfully, he was still tired but it was manageable compared to the bone-crushing exhaustion from last night. His cousin gave him a look that said quite clearly that he didn’t believe him.

Thankfully, Hanabusa didn’t try to interrogate him further about how he felt. Instead the blonde commented, “I wonder why Kaname-sama was so upset last night.”

The taller vampire had no response to that since he had no clue as to what was bothering their gang leader.

“You just thought of him as our gang leader again, didn’t you?” The blonde accused.

Akatsuki’s only response was to grin. “I bet you think of him that way now to.” Before the blonde could respond they were joined by another person.

“Think of who what way?” Ruka asked as she joined them.

Hanabusa answered her indignantly, “Akatsuki called Kaname-sama a gang leader again.”

Both males were shocked when she laughed softly instead of getting angry.

Akatsuki chuckled at the dumbfounded expression on his cousin’s face. The blonde didn’t know that Ruka was no longer in love with their leader. However, just because she didn’t love the pureblood didn’t mean that she was any less loyal to him.

The blonde looked at the female vampire with concern in his eyes. “Um, are you okay?” When she just nodded without adding any sarcastic remarks or cold words, Hanabusa looked even more concerned as well as slightly freaked out.

Akatsuki refrained from chuckling at his cousin’s confusion. I wonder how he would react if he knew that he was the one she’s interested in now. His musing was interrupted as the three of them finally walked out of the dormitory to see the rest of the Night class waiting at the gate. He didn’t realize it but Hanabusa walked on one side of him while Ruka walked on the other side preventing anyone from getting too close to him. No one hindered them from moving to the front of the crowd to their normal positions. The various nobles were all waiting to see what would happen between the cousins and the dorm president.

Rima, Senri, and Takuma all nodded to him once they made it. None of them acted like anything was wrong. The only one missing from their usual group was Seiren, who was off on an errand. Akatsuki returned the nods catching sight of Kaname leaning against the gate with his arms crossed. Knowing that the rest of the Night class was watching, the taller vampire walked up to the pureblood: “Kaname-sama.”

The pureblood’s burgundy eyes looked him over without giving away what their owner was thinking. “I trust you slept well.”

There was no reference to the earlier disturbance. This was just a polite conversation between them. “I did.” There were times when Akatsuki hated being a noble because everyone watched him. Vampires were like sharks and wouldn’t hesitate to rip another vampire to shreds at the merest hint of weakness. Since he was one of Kaname’s right hand men the flame wielder couldn’t afford to show any weaknesses. Keeping his eyes locked with burgundy he realized that this was even truer for the male in front of him.

He was slightly surprised when the burgundy eyes showed a hint of amusement. Kaname had been acting oddly lately; everyone close to him knew that. At the best of times he was hard to read but now he was completely unpredictable. Only Takuma seemed to have any idea of what was running through their leader’s mind.

The brunette walked up to him so that only a few inches separated their bodies. With his voice lowered so that only Akatsuki could hear it, Kaname asked: “Are you feeling all right?”

The taller male couldn’t hide the slight surprise that showed from this intrusion on his personal space. While he wouldn’t classify Kaname’s behavior as clingy, it seemed as if the pureblood was intent on getting as close to him as possible. Which made no sense because everyone knew that the only person Kaname liked was Yuki; however, a tiny portion of his brain began to doubt that. He refused to look away from the brunette’s burgundy eyes as he answered just as softly, “I’m fine.” Why does everyone keep asking me that? Is it the question of the night? All I did was give a little blood.  It’s not like I went off to fight an army of level E’s by myself.  He knew that he’d let Zero have a little too much blood; but he wouldn’t deny the guardian, his mate, what he needed. Because of their close proximity Akatsuki could tell that Kaname wasn’t satisfied with his answer.

“I see.” Kaname said after his burgundy eyes assessed him. Thankfully, the gate creaked open revealing the crowd of girls and guys waiting to see them. The brunette turned around to lead them to the classroom when he stopped and glanced back to meet Akatsuki’s sunset colored eyes. “I still want to talk to you after class.”

Akatsuki nodded his acknowledgement of the pureblood’s request/order. It seems like I won’t be able to get out of that, damn. After receiving his nod, Kaname turned back towards the gate and lead them to class like he always did every night. The flame wielder tried to ignore the slight unease he felt when a soft touch on his arm caught his attention. He turned his head to find that both his cousin and Ruka were still standing on either side of him giving him worried looks. They were far enough back that they didn’t intrude upon the conversation with Kaname yet close enough to have protected him from any danger. That thought was just as unsettling as the upcoming meeting with Kaname. What are they trying to protect me from? That thought was closely followed by another: What do they know that I don’t?

Takuma chose that moment to start herding them to class. As usual the Night class was greeted by an overenthusiastic crowd yelling various things to them. Akatsuki immediately checked for Zero but was disturbed to find that the silver haired male wasn’t there. Before he could panic, though, Yuki walked up to him and held out a cream envelope for him to take. He took it from her to find that the only thing written on it was his name in a handwriting he didn’t recognize.

The poor girl didn’t look like she’d slept well. She probably stayed up all night worried about Zero.

“Kain-senpai, father wanted me to give this to you before you went to class.”

To his knowledge this was the first time she’d ever referred to the headmaster as father. “Thank you, Yuki.” His simple thank you seemed to make her relax.

When she continued to stand there, Akatsuki knew there was something else. The girl wasn’t capable of hiding her thoughts or emotions; she seemed nervous.

To his surprise she took a few steps forward so that she was very close to him. What is it with people getting so close today?  Her voice was low, but he could clearly hear every word she said thanks to his enhanced hearing. “Thank you for taking care of Zero last night. I was worried about him and ran to the dormitory in time to see the two of you talking.” Her cheeks turned a light pink. “I’m sorry for eavesdropping, but I know that Zero doesn’t get along well with other vampires so I got closer and could hear your conversation.” Her cheeks turned a darker shade of pink. “Thank you for not being like the others and for caring about him.” With those words spoken, she turned and continued on doing her job as a school guardian.

Akatsuki didn’t know what to say to that. On one hand, Yuki now knew that Zero was a vampire; yet she didn’t seem too upset about that. Secondly, she wasn’t freaked out about him basically confessing to the silver haired guardian. Finally, he wondered if Zero knew that she knew. His eyes fell to the envelope that he held. His name was neatly written on the cream paper.

He started walking on autopilot as he opened the envelope. Inside rested a single sheet of white paper covered with a few lines of the same neat writing. The aristocrat felt both of his eyebrows raise as he read the words:

Thank you for taking care of Zero last night. By now you’ve noticed that he isn’t helping Yuki with their normal duties. I made him take the night off to get some proper rest so don’t worry.

The letter was signed with the headmaster’s name at the bottom followed by another sentence:

Welcome to the family.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIII  IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIII

After delivering the note, Yuki went about her usual duties with her mind completely focused on the night before. For once everything was quiet on the school grounds giving her the leisure to think. Some things that had been bothering her now made sense. Zero’s hatred of vampires wasn’t just because a pureblood had killed his family but also because said pureblood turned him into one against his will. This also explained his intense dislike of Kaname.

I wouldn’t want to be faced with the very same type of creature that destroyed my life every night. She stopped walking as another thought occurred to her. I wonder if he’ll be moved to the Night class now. I can’t see Zero going along with that idea. She shook her head hard. Snap out of it, girl. Zero is still Zero; the only difference is that now you know he’s a vampire. He hasn’t hurt anyone and he won’t either. In fact, his hatred of vampires was so deep Yuki had the feeling that he’d kill himself before he became a danger to anyone. Zero was first and foremost a hunter. He may look like a punk, act hard and tough, but inside he has a very large heart.

But why would he hide something like this from me, I don’t keep any secrets from him. I don’t want him to be alone. This was what bothered her the most.

A pout formed on her face to be transformed into a mischievous smile a second later. Then again, with Kain-sempai around I don’t have to worry about that. Their so cute together-like the sun and the moon. Her thoughts led her to imagine things that she’d never thought of Zero doing. They were so adorable when Zero was holding onto Kain-sempai. Her cheeks turned bright pink as her mind conjured up all sorts of things that they could do with each other. Activities that invariably lead to them wearing less clothing…and preferably a bed…or any other sturdy surface…

Zero would later learn that he was to blame for her turning into a yaoi fan girl.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII  IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

Ever since they were children, Akatsuki always stood out in Kaname’s mind. The flame haired boy didn’t fawn over him, like Ruka and Aido, or mother him, like Takuma, instead he chose to remain in the background unless he either needed to come to his cousin’s rescue or something specifically required his attention. Akatsuki was a solid presence amongst the chaos that surrounded the pureblood.

To say that he was a little upset that someone had dared to drink from his mate was a huge understatement. As he made his way along the hallways through the Sun dormitory, Kaname made sure that he didn’t make a sound that would attract any attention to his presence. Normal humans might not be able to sense his aura; however, a sound in the hallway during the middle of the night was more than guaranteed to garner him unwanted attention. There’s only one person at this school who’d need that much real blood.

He was probably the only person other than the headmaster and now Akatsuki who knew that Zero Kiryu was an exhuman—and unable to tolerate blood tablets. Ever since the day the moody boy entered the headmaster’s house, Kaname had kept a careful eye on him. His worst fear had always been that Kiryu would fall to level E and in the process, whether intentionally or not, kill Yuki. It was these fears that lead him to be cruel to the other even though a tiny part of him knew that Zero would rather kill himself before harming anyone else. His thoughts were brought to a halt when he reached the guardian’s room.

Yes, Kaname was angry. Truthfully though, quite a bit of his anger was directed more towards Akatsuki rather than Zero. After all, Akatsuki didn’t have to let the guardian drink from him. I wish Zero had drunk from Yuki. Guilt flooded throughout him. It was a horrible thought. What kind of sibling am I to wish that upon my sister?

He was also jealous—pure and simple. The vampires surrounding him constantly brought him gifts, showered him with praise, and would even give their lives for him. This was their way of showing him that they cared. That he meant something to them.

Kaname didn’t want any of it. There wasn’t a single one of them who saw him as something other than the pureblood that could lead them to peace. Those that were close to him still saw him as ‘Kaname-sama’ because of his status. Being a pureblood meant that there was a huge gulf between him and everyone else. There were times when he seriously wished he’d been born a common vampire because his life would’ve been so much simpler. Once again quilt pricked him. He wasn’t being fair to Takuma. The green eyed blonde was his best friend and tried to treat him as normal as possible. It wasn’t the blonde’s fault his grandfather was a bastard asshole. His thoughts were interrupted when the door in front of him swung open suddenly.

“Why the hell are you standing outside my door, Kuran?” An irritated, sleepy Zero demanded. Sleep pants rode low on his hips, while his long sleeve shirt had over half of the buttons undone.

Kaname took his time answering to appreciate what he was seeing. His eyes looked the guardian over slowly taking in the softer appearance of his rival. The exposed pale skin of his chest and stomach was really quite distracting. He dimly noted that a just woken up Zero was a rather adorable looking Zero. The guardian’s appearance made him think of a cute kitten. A glance to amethyst eyes showed that they were quickly losing their sleepy haziness and were sharpening in intensity. The guardian’s eyes had always fascinated him. Make that a sexy little kitten—with rather sharp claws and fangs. The brunette nearly groaned at the turn his thoughts took. Now is not the time to revisit old fantasies. Though he did wonder what Zero would look like with silver ears and a silver tail. Focus!

“You’ve been standing outside of my door for several minutes, so what the fuck do you want?”

It occurred to him that he was a little jealous that Akatsuki was able to get close to this beautiful creature when he couldn’t. A silver eyebrow began twitching letting Kaname know that if he didn’t start talking soon then he was going to be dealing with a sleep deprived, homicidal guardian. A very hot sleep deprived, homicidal guardian—focus idiot!! Stop fantasizing and start talking. “I wanted to make you an offer.”

Zero’s surprise was easily seen though he quickly hid it behind distrust. “What kind of offer?”

Kaname sighed, “Can we continue this in your room. I don’t want to talk about this where anyone could overhear; and I don’t think you want that either.” Zero frowned thoughtfully before he stepped back motioning for Kaname to enter his room. The guardian sat cross legged on the rumpled bed sheets waving for the brunette to take the only other seat in the room, the desk chair.

“So talk.” Zero’s bluntness could be very hard to handle at times.

Once again Kaname sighed as he tried to think of a way to word his request. If he wasn’t careful he could really screw this up; and he was so tired of messing things up with Zero. “I know you drank from Akatsuki last night; however, his blood will only slow the fall to level E.”

“I know.” The look of acceptance of this inevitable fate in Zero’s eyes nearly broke Kaname’s heart and served to harden his resolve.

His voice was hard, determined. “I won’t let that happen.” There was no way he would let Zero fall.

“Say what?” Surprise and confusion swirled in Zero’s eyes before settling on confusion. After observing the silver haired teen for so long, Kaname had no problems reading the emotions in his eyes. “What are you on, Kuran? I didn’t think you were the type to get high.”

Amusement won over irritation at the thought that Zero believed he might be doing drugs. He knew he’d said quite a few cruel things to Zero over the years; and he’d always given the impression that he could have cared less about the other’s existence but that wasn’t true. He pushed Zero away because he’d been hurt too many times; he’d done too many cruel things; and finally, he simply cared too much. Yuki was a never ending source of pain even though she sought only to care for those she loved. She was completely oblivious to the unintentional pain she caused others. I’m glad he never bit her because she would tear his heart to shreds and never realize that she was the one responsible for his misery. Instead, she would try harder to help and in the end hurt Zero even more deeply. Those thoughts stabbed his heart, but they were the truth. Yuki had a large heart but her obliviousness had the potential to kill. “I’m not high, Zero. I refuse to let you fall to level E. You mean too much to too many people.” Mainly myself and Akatsuki.

Zero looked away, but Kaname knew he was thinking about his words. After awhile he said quietly, “The only way that I know of that could possibly stop my fall is for me to drink that woman’s blood.”

“That would be the ideal way to do it,” Kaname said, “but I don’t think that’s what you want.” That was an understatement. He knew that Zero would kill Shizuka and then kill himself. This was even more unacceptable then just letting him fall to level E. “There is one other way to escape the path you’re on now. Unfortunately, it would mean getting rid of the bond to Shizuka and creating a bond with another pureblood, in this case myself.”

Zero was looking at him again in disbelief with just the tiniest glimmer of something that might be hope. “That’s not possible. Blood bonds are unbreakable.”

“If your bond with Shizuka was complete then, yes, it would be unbreakable; but in this case you only have a one way bond with her. Am I correct in assuming that she bit you without giving you any of her blood?” Kaname asked even though he was confident that he was correct.

The guardian’s eyes became distant for a few seconds. “Yeah. What does that have to do with anything?”

Kaname smirked, “Everything. One way bonds like that aren’t permanent and will dim over time unless completed and turned into two way bonds. With the bond you have now you’ll always know when she’s around and be sensitive to her presence; she can control you through this bond.” He paused to let that sink into Zero’s brain. None of that information was known to hunters. Due to the fact that if any of them ever got bitten their so called comrades killed them not long after. If they weren’t killed by their comrades then they probably committed suicide. Hunters know quite a bit about us yet there is a vast amount that they don’t know. Zero nodded without commenting. Apparently, I’ve caught his interest. There was no animosity in the amethyst eyes now; it was replaced with thinly veiled curiosity. “Now if you were to form a two way bond with another pureblood--such as myself in this case--, then the new bond will break the old bond with Shizuka.”

Zero’s head tilted to the side as he absorbed the new information. “Why?”

If he ignored the earlier antagonism, Kaname was quite pleased to realize that they were having a normal conversation even if he was the one doing most of the talking. I really need to stay on track right now. He reminded himself; but he couldn’t help getting sidetracked like this every time he even said a few words to Zero. The younger teen’s presence was always a source of distraction for him. It was one of the reasons that made the brunette ignore him in the past because, at least, that way he would remain focused. “A two way bond is far more powerful and is permanent. Can you guess how it’s formed?” The answer was obvious, but Kaname wanted Zero to be able to answer it without having to explain it to him.

Zero didn’t hesitate with his answer, “You would drink my blood, but in return I would also drink yours.” He paused before giving Kaname an unreadable look. “What are the side effects? I knew I would be sensitive to that woman’s presence; but if a two way bond is stronger, then I wouldn’t be the only one effected by it. So how will this affect the two of us?”

I’ll take it as a good sign that I don’t have the Bloody Rose in my face right now. Kaname relaxed slightly leaning back against the chair as he thought about his words. He had to be absolutely honest with Zero; now was not the time to speak obscurely. “This bond is truly unbreakable; not even death can undo it. This is a bonding of blood, bodies, and souls-we will be mates. The bond between mates is considered to be one of the most sacred. We will be affected on all levels. If one of us were to die then at best the other would go insane or become a prisoner in their own body; the worst case scenario:  death.”

“Sounds like you said that backwards. I would think that death would be the best solution instead of the other two.” Zero commented wryly.

Kaname shrugged in amusement because he personally agreed. “For the first few months or so, we’ll have to stay near each other; the bond won’t allow us to be very far apart without suffering extreme anxiety, irritation, and depression. Even after that period of time, we won’t be able to handle prolonged separation; the side effects will be even worse and can cause us to become physically ill. Drinking from others can only satisfy us for a short time-a day at the most. I wouldn’t recommend drinking from anyone else, though.” I’ll do anything to make sure that I’m the one you drink from unless the other person is Akatsuki. The mere thought of Zero drinking from anyone else was enough to make his more primal instincts enraged.

“You don’t strike me as the type to share.” The guardian seemed amused. Kaname was grateful that Zero seemed to take the information well.

“Then there is the intense physical attraction, we’ll be constantly aware of each others’ emotions, we’ll be able to find each other no matter the location.” Kaname ended his explanation there. Any other side effects would have to be experienced firsthand. Information regarding purebloods and bonds was rarely recorded. All of the information Kaname possessed came from what his parents told him before their deaths. He remembered some of the comments his mother would make when his father wasn’t home. If his father was gone for extended periods of time, he remembered how she would try to hide her anxiety; but Kaname always saw it. However, what he remembered the most was how happy they were. One time he asked his father why he and mother were so happy. At the time, Kaname hadn’t understood his father’s answer; but as he looked at Zero and thought of Akatsuki, he understood what his father tried to tell him. To have someone who understood you, truly accepted you for whom you were, someone you could lean on, a person you could trust completely, and someone who truly loved you was the greatest thing in the world—more precious than any stone, gem, or treasure could ever be.

“So, your offer is…” Zero trailed off obviously waiting for Kaname to continue. If he was uncomfortable with the brunette’s staring he didn’t show it.

“Because I am a pureblood, by drinking my blood you could completely halt the process of falling to level E,” Kaname kept this simple. “I am offering to let you drink my blood, will you?”

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII  IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIII

“I am offering to let you drink my blood, will you?”

To tell the truth, Zero didn’t know what to think. The pureblood gave him quite a lot of information he needed to process. The offer sounded so simple on the surface, yet this would change his entire life if he accepted. Thankfully, Kuran appeared unhurried and willing to let him think about this. Since the day I was bitten, I accepted the fact that I wouldn’t live long. Hell, I’m surprised that I’ve lived as long as I have. I always thought that I would be killed by Kuran; if he didn’t do it then I would die by the hands of hunters, or I would just shoot myself with the Bloody Rose. He highly doubted that Cross would’ve let him keep the gun if he knew that Zero would one day consider taking his own life with it. But now I’m being given a chance to live. Do I want to? Amazingly the answer was yes, because there was someone out there who did seem to genuinely care about him other than his adopted father and Yuki. More importantly, do I want to be tied to Kuran for the rest of my life?

He knew that brunette had left some things out of his explanation-like just how dependent on each other they would be; but then again, that wasn’t something that could be easily explained with words no matter how verbally talented you were. His life would no longer be his own; however, as things stood right now Zero really couldn’t say that he had any control of his life anyways. At least this would be my choice. So once again the question became: Do I want to be tied to Kuran? Akatsuki said earlier that he didn’t want to lose me, but what will happen if I do agree to this? It’s not like he could really say anything since Kuran is a pureblood. “Why—why are you doing this? What reason do you have for not wanting me to fall? How does this benefit you?”

The brunette took no offense at his questions; in fact, he seemed to have been anticipating them. That was something else that added to the strangeness of everything: he and the pureblood were actually talking, they weren’t trading threats, and the Bloody Rose was still underneath his pillow.

“You and I both care a lot about Kain and I don’t want to see him hurt.” The brunette’s face was determined, his voice sure, yet his eyes held sadness.

A silver eyebrow rose from surprise, Zero was learning many things tonight; but the surprises weren’t over yet. His mouth dropped open at the pureblood’s next words.

“It isn’t just about Kain, though.” He paused as if searching for the right thing to say. “I’ve said a lot of cruel things to you not because I hate you, but because I was afraid of letting myself get hurt.” His lips twisted into a bitter smirk. “I’m a pureblood, who just happens to be heading the pacifist movement. There are only a handful of people surrounding me who don’t want something in return. Caring about someone means letting them get so close to me emotionally that they could tear me to shreds. Vampires are vicious and will exploit any weakness they can find. That is especially true of the ones I have to deal with on a regular basis: the council, the nobles, other purebloods, students here, and the businessmen/women from my father’s company. The very notion of giving someone that much power to hurt me is terrifying.”

That sounds like some kind of confession. Either way it’s really fucked up. But I can’t say anything, can I? I push everyone away as well-for a different reason-but still… “You’re not doing this for Yuki?” He didn’t expect the reaction that got him—not that he should expect anything to be normal, since the brunette was successfully turning his beliefs upside down.

A deep frown appeared on Kuran’s face, “No.” His answer was blunt, forceful. “This has nothing to do with her at all. I don’t love her romantically. I never will.” There was a hardness to his voice that made Zero believe every word of it. “I didn’t think I was capable of feeling anything but fondness for someone until I met you. I’m doing this because there is something about you that draws me to you no matter how hard I try to stay away. You’re different because you treat me like an individual, and that is one of the reasons I’ve managed to stay sane around here. I truly care for you; that is why I’m doing this.”

“And it doesn’t bother you that if we do this, we’ll then be tied together for the rest of our lives?” Zero felt like he’d been hit with a bus. There was really no way to describe how shocked he was by this. Talk about being a fish out of water.

The frown disappeared, quickly replaced by a wry smile and burgundy eyes showed definite amusement: “Well, I can honestly say that I will never have to be worried about being bored.”

Zero stared at him for the few seconds it took to process that statement before he glared and grabbed the first thing he touched, his pillow, and threw it at the pureblood hard. That…that…

Kuran caught the pillow before it could hit him, and actually had the nerve to chuckle. It was the first time the silver haired teen had ever heard the brunette do that and he was mesmerized by the emotions playing across Kura…no Kaname’s face and eyes. Before Zero could think about what the words coming out of his mouth, he said: “I accept.”

Kaname froze from surprise. This was another thing Zero had never seen him do before, and he was beginning to like causing these reactions. “Are you sure?”

Zero sighed mentally: I accept and he questions my judgment. “Yes.” Then he said without thinking, “Idiot.” For as long as he lived, Zero would never forget the look on Kaname’s face after that. “By the way, you better have one hell of a reason for skipping class other than you came to talk to me.”

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII  IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIII

Class was finally over after seemingly dragging on for days. Amazingly, Akatsuki managed to ditch both Hanabusa and Ruka with Ichijo’s help before they could follow him to the dorm president’s room.  He didn’t want them or anyone else to be around for whatever their leader wanted to discuss. Of course, it would help if I knew just what exactly he wants to discuss with me. For whatever reason, the dorm president ditched the rest of their classes after an hour. While the pureblood was known for doing that occasionally, tonight it just put Akatsuki even more on edge. He knew that this upcoming talk had something to do with his giving blood to Zero; but other than that he didn’t know what to expect. Kaname-sama’s reaction to smelling his blood had been violent. Then the way he seemed to calm down when Akatsuki managed to drag his protesting body to the door was surprising. Even more surprising was how jealous he sounded afterwards. The whole jealousy thing was confusing the flame wielder.

Purebloods were notoriously possessive. They were extremely thorough in eliminating anything that posed even a little threat to what, or who, they considered theirs. It doesn’t make any sense, though; he’s always talked about Yuki. He’s always been hard to the point of cruelty on Zero. Yet lately, now that I think about it, he seems like he’s trying to be friendly to Zero; and Kaname-sama has been invading my personal space recently. The sunset eyed noble now stood outside of the dorm president’s rooms, trying to not fidget, waiting to be acknowledged. So many questions, yet so very few answers.

“Come in.” The dorm president’s voice was muffled as it called out from behind the closed door.

Akatsuki opened the door, entering the darkened study. As expected the pureblood was alone, sitting at his desk behind a pile of papers from either the council or his father’s company. “Kaname-sama.”

The brunette didn’t look up; instead he motioned for Akatsuki to sit in one of the chairs opposite his desk. Silence reigned for another five minutes as he finished going over the papers in his hand. Setting them to the side, the brunette leaned back before sighing heavily. Burgundy eyes calmly assessed sunset eyes.

Akatsuki didn’t flinch from the look as he patiently waited for the pureblood to speak.

“The next time you decide to give someone blood, I suggest you wait until scent blocking wards are placed in your room, or Zero’s room, whichever room gets them in place first.”

Sunset eyes widened from the bluntness of the brunette’s words. The pureblood wasn’t normally so direct.

Amusement flickered briefly in the burgundy eyes. “Or the two of you can just come to my room since the wards are already in place.”

Akatsuki stared. His mind raced to put things in place but was failing to do so. He’d entered the study somewhat prepared to deal with a jealous, violent pureblood.

“You sound like a perverted old man, Kaname.” A very familiar voice said from the doorway to the pureblood’s bedroom.

Akatsuki’s brain shut down. Zero? The guardian stood leaning against the doorway with a smirk on his face.  The flame wielder looked back and forth between the two unable to process that the two were in the same room, not arguing, not threatening each other—and did Zero just tease the pureblood?

The brunette’s lips twitched with amusement clearly written all over his face. “You have to admit, Zero, he looks adorable when he’s stunned.”
