The vision of Escaflowne: Two souls ... two destinies

Chapter 4: A secret is always a secret

After lunch:

Allen and Hitomi went to the training room; they spent all the
afternoon practicing. Hitomi's ass was kicked a couple of times. While
they practiced, Christina watched their every movement, learning how
to fight. About thirty past four, she grabbed some arrows and bow, and
started practicing, shooting to a target that was on the left side of
the room. Missing the target most of the times.

~*~*~

On the stables:

"Merle, I don't know how to ride a horse!"

"That's why I'm here! To teach you!"

Merle was teaching Marta how to ride a horse.

"I don't believe you people, on the Mystic Moon, don't learn how to
ride a horse!"

"Well I didn't have the opportunity to learn, ok?"

"God, why are you so mad?"

"I'm not mad!"

They spent the all afternoon riding, they gone to that forest, close
to Fanélia and then got back to the castle. Of course Marta had to
change cloths, you wouldn't want her riding with one of those Gaea's
dresses, now would you?

~*~*~

IT'S DINNERTIME! Sorry, it was dinnertime, cause this is after dinner:

"Come!" - Van grabbed Marta's arm and pulled her, forcing her to go
with him.

"To where?"

"To the training room, where else could it be?"

"Yeh right! I forgot that!"

They finally got there. Van locked the door, so now one could disturb
them.

"Why did you locked it?"

"For no one to enter, so we are not disturbed!"

"Well ... please open it!"

"Why?"

"I don't fell well locked in here ... with you!"

"I will not harm you! What kind of man do you think I am?"

"It's not you in particular, ok? It's just, men give the creep!"

"Can I ask you why is that?"

"Well ... I don't want to talk about it. So please just open the god
damn door!"

"Ok! You're the boss!" - he unlocked it. Marta sighed in relief. -
"Marta?"

"Yes!"

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah! Don't I look alright?"

"NO! Not at all! Are you sure you want to practice tonight!"

"Yeh! I'm pretty sure!"

"Alright, then we'll start ... now!" - Van charged at her and the
fight begun, and lasted till later. It was midnight when they
finished, just because they were too tired to continue any longer. -
"Nice first lesson, don't you think?"

" Yeah! Pretty much ... to much!" - they laughed and putted their
weapons on their place. Than, Van noticed a tattoo on Marta's left
arm.

"What's that?"

"Oh, this? It's a tattoo!"

"What's a tattoo?"

"Well is some picture some guys make on your skin, and you can not
took them off, unless you make a plastic surgery!"

"Too confusing!"

"I was never a good teacher!" - they laughed again.

"You know ..."

"What?"

"There's a race, the Healy people, who have a mark, just like that
one! Unfortunately they were all destroyed on a fire that happened on
their village, some years ago!"

"And you thought I was one of them?"

"Yeah!"

"Well, I don't think so, but the strange think is that I don't
remember getting this tattoo. I have it since I can remember!"

"That's weird!"

"Yeah, I know!" - she gave some steps to the door. - "Coming?"

"Yes!"

Van locked the room and they went to their bedrooms.

~*~*~

Christina's bedroom:

She was reviewing her bag. She had four blue-jean pants, three shirts
without sleeves, one shirt with sleeves but without shoulders, one
jacket, some underwear, some `things' for the hair, some `private
things', a comb, a small mirror, some make-up and a box full of
condoms (well not anymore, she used one last night, but that is not
important, is it?).

She put it all inside the wardrobe and then went to take a nice, warm
bath.

«This place isn't to bad! And Sano is a great guy ... in all aspects!»

(Yeh! Sano was the guy who went to Christina's room last night! He is
also the one who fought Allen this morning, on the previous chapter.)

~*~*~

Marta's bedroom:

"Where the hell did I put it?" - Marta was running, searching the
whole room for a ... - "Here you are, you ... you ... necklace!"

She had just finished her shower, and she was looking for her
necklace, then she went to open her a window, and she saw it ... she
saw an angel! It was only his shadow, as he was against the moonlight.
He was gone, almost immediately; she thought it was an illusion.

«Well, anyway ... I'm going for a walk out there!»

She went to the wardrobe and picked up a simple white dress, with a
dark green bodice. This one had sleeves! She put a strange and tiny
chain, with little blue stones in it; around her waist.

She went out, heading for the gardens.

~*~*~

At the gardens:

Hitomi was seated, next to a big tree, watching the stars. She was
happy to be in here ... again, but she was sad cause she said it ...
she said she didn't love him anymore.

It was true, she didn't love him, but she didn't want to hurt him
either. Last night she couldn't sleep after seeing how Van was after
she told him.

«I hope you find someone else, soon! I really hope so!» she thought.

~*~*~

On the corridor from Fanélia's palace:

"Here I go again! I hope I don't get myself lost for a long time. I
only need to catch some air ... is that asking too much? God! I'll
have to ask Van a map for this place!" - she whispered, to herself.

"Finally!" - she found the main door, the one that leads to the
gardens. She went down the few existing stairs and then she saw
Hitomi. She started walking towards her, but then ... she saw someone
... someone who watched Hitomi. As it was against the light, she
couldn't see his face, but yet she noticed it was a man.

He was on the back of one tree, that was on the left side of the one
Hitomi was on. He had a black cloak over his whole body. Marta stood
watching, he was studding her (Hitomi) and she didn't noticed his
presence.

Marta looked at the great wall, which surrounded the palace, there she
saw one other person, a woman, and she had seen her. Probably it was a
friend of the guy who was watching Hitomi cause she made him a sign
and he turned to see Marta.

He walked towards her; she froze not knowing what he was about to do.
Hitomi was far away so she didn't listen to none of what they were
saying.

"Who are you?" - the man asked Marta. Now she could see his face, he
was about nineteen years old and had brown hair, and he was smiling.
That was comforting for her, he shouldn't be a spy! Maybe he was just
a soldier!

"Marta!"

"Marta? I never heard of you! When did you got here?"

"Three days ago!"

"Oh! But how indelicate of mine ... my name's Zardus! It's a pleasure
to meet you my lady!" - she blushed and smiled, when he took and
kissed her hand. - "You will excuse me, but I have to leave now! Have
a good night my lady!"

He left. With only a jump he was o the top of the enormous walls of
the palace, joining the woman. Soon another woman came from the other
side of the palace, and they all disappeared.

"Now, that's weird!" - Marta sighed and went close to Hitomi. - "Good
night Hitomi!"

Hitomi turned her head to see Marta smiling, she smiled back. - "Good
night for you too Marta! You look very happy!"

"Van is teaching me how to fight!" - she said while seating next to
Hitomi.

"Oh yeah! Well I've got a teacher too!"

"Who is it?"

"Allen! You know ... I know how to use a fencing sword, but not one of
this!"

"They are quite heavy, aren't they?"

"You can say that again!" - they both gave a small laugh.

"Can I join the party?" - they both turned their heads, just in time
to see the smiling face of ...

"Celena? Awake at this time of night?" - Marta smiled at her. - "And
looking so happy!"

"Well, you both are awake aren't you? So why shouldn't I be too?"

"Have a seat with us!" - Hitomi showed her a place next to her.

"Thanks! So what's so funny?"

"Nothing special, we were just talking about weapons, that's all!" -
Marta smiled and looked at the lagoon.

"Have you seen anything strange this night?" - Celena asked to both.

"No! Why do you ask?" - Hitomi and Marta said in chorus.

#Thoughts#

«I saw something strange! That guy and that other two women, they
looked suspicious!» - Marta.

«Is she talking about Van? Did she saw him flying? I told him it was
dangerous to land here, just to talk to me, but probably she didn't
saw him ... I hope not!» - Hitomi.

«That man I saw on the corridor! Maybe they didn't see him! Maybe it
was only my imagination!» - Celena.

#End of thoughts#

"Well, nothing special! Just asking!"

"Ladies!" - Dryden was coming towards them. - "What are you three
doing out here so late! It could be dangerous!"

"Now Dryden ... if it's dangerous for us, it's dangerous for you!" -
Marta said, joking.

"No, cause I'm a MAN!" - he started putting himself in those funny
positions, showing his great muscles. The three `ladies' started
laughing uncontrollably. They hugged their waist cause with so much
laughs their stomach started hurting. But Dryden continued.

"Stop it ... Ahaha ... I can't stand it anymore ... Ahaha ..." -
Hitomi said between laughs. Finally Dryden stopped and smiled, seeing
that they couldn't stop laughing.

About ten minutes later, they finally managed to stop.

"Now I think we should get inside! It's getting late! ... Ladies?" -
he pointed to the main door. The three of them stood up and went
there, Dryden was the last one.

He took each one of them to their respective room, and then went to
his, where Mirana awaited.

~*~*~

On the outskirts of Asturia:

"Zardus you shouldn't have done that?" - Yukí yelled at Zardus. Yukí
was wearing black breeches, a short white shirt and soma great boots
that came over her knees (this is similar to the one that Ureshiú
uses).

"And why is that Yukí?" - he replied

"She can NOW tell Van that she saw us! She saw your face!"

"Yes but she also liked me, so she thinks I'm a friend. Probably she
thinks I'm a soldier from Fanélia's army! And that's all! She is not
going to say a word about it."

"Why were you watching that girl anyway?" - Zardus turned to a corner,
cause he blushed a little and he didn't want Yukí to see it.

"For no special reason! But I heard some people saying that she was
the one that helped Van at the Great War, you know the one from the
Mystic Moon!"

"She doesn't look nothing special to me!" - Yukí said in disgust.

"Master Zardus?"

"Yes Sorú?" - a man revealed from one of the many shadows of that
room. He was about twenty-one, dark blue eyes and raven black hair.
And he was wearing a uniform, similar to Zardus' but instead of grey
was white.

"I found a girl while I was researching the castle! In another words
she saw me!"

"Great, that makes two!" - Yukí was angrier than ever.

"Did she suspected something?" - Zardus was calm, very calm.

"I don't think so, Sir! I told her I was one of the guards and she
seemed to believe! I think she was Allen's sister!"

"Than there is nothing to be afraid of! No one will suspect anything!"
- he gave a small sigh. - "You can go and rest! I'll call you when it
comes the time!"

"Yes Sir! Have a good night!" - Sorú leave.

"Good night Zardus!" - Yukí followed him.

"Good night to you both!"

~*~*~

Next morning:

Marta looked at her reflection on the mirror. She was only wearing her
bra and some black pants, which started under her navel. On the right
side of her navel she had a tattoo of a half-horse, half-fix and
half-dragon animal; but, on the left side she had a great and, in some
way, scary scar. « Destiny's mark!» as she called it.

She was observing it; since she came to Gaea it started hurting again.
«Why?» she asked herself. Than the door opened, she turned and saw ...

"VAN? ... For god's sake! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'R DOING?" - she put
her hands in front of her chest. And Van blushed.

"S ... so ... Sorry! I made a mistake! A huge mistake! Excuse me!" -
he was about to leave when he noticed her scar. - "Were did you got
that one?"

Marta looked at it and turned around. Then Van could see that the scar
went to her back. It was the hugest scar he had ever seen in his live.
And besides it was bleeding.

"It's none of your business!" - Marta was now pissed of.

"Does it hurts?" - Van was about to move close but the tone of her
voice alerted him not to do it.

"NO! AND GET AWAY FROM HERE! You've seen to much."

"But Marta, you're bleeding!"

"GO AWAY!" - she yelled and Van could notice she was also crying.

"But ..."

"Please Van ... leave me alone." - her voice was now calmer but she
was yet crying. - "CAN'T YOU SEE, I DIDN'T ANYONE TO SEE IT ... IS IT
TOO DIFFICULT FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND IT?"

"I didn't meant to ..."

"BUT YOU DID SEE IT!" - she turned to him and her eyes were red from
being crying. Her view was now cloudy, and she could barely see Van's
expression. He went to her and hugged her. She put her arms around his
waist and started crying even more.

~*~*~

"Did you hear that, Dryden?" - Mirana asked, after leaving the
bathroom. Dryden hugged her and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"Probably Van entered her room again, without knocking!"

"That guy!"

"Well, Marta is not a thing to drop away you know? She is really
pretty ..." - he made a scoffing smile. - " ... And has a nice chest!"

"You bastard!" - Mirana started giving him some punches.

"Hey, hey, hey! I was just kidding! Do you think I could look at
another women that isn't you?" - he started getting his lips close to
hers ...

"Who knows ..." - they kissed and Dryden took Mirana back to bed ...

~*~*~

Marta's room:

She and Van were seated on her bed. She finally stopped crying.

"Felling better?" - Van asked still very worried.

"Yes!"

"Wanna talk about it? I'm your friend, remember?" - she looked at him.
She knew she could trust him, but yet ...

"You know Van?"

"Know what?"

"There are things, that people don't even tell to their friends! Those
are the real secrets! The ones we keep for ourselves." - she sighed. -
"I trust you ... I really do, but ..." - she now looked at her hands
that she was shaking uncontrollably. - " ... This is my most profound
secret, and I don't intend to tell it to anyone ... not even to you!"

"That's Ok! But if you need someone to talk to, you can always count
on me! Ok?" - she nodded, and he started leaving her room.

"Van?" - she called out.

"Yes?" - he turned around to face her.

"Please don't tell anyone you've seen it! ... Please!" - she asked
desperately.

"Don't worry about that! I would never do such a think."

"Thanks!" - he went out, but soon returned.

"Marta, can I ask you a favour?"

"Of course!" - she smiled, as she saw his concerning face.

"Please don't tell anyone I entered your room, again ... without
knocking. I swear it wasn't intentionally!" - she gave a small laugh.

"That's Ok Van! Don't worry!"

"I'm glade you're happy again!" - he smiled and leave. She got up and
went to dress herself.

~*~*~

In the afternoon, on the outskirts of Asturia:

Sorú was in a huge room, a training room; fighting with Yukí.

Yukí was it's superior, she was his General cause she was stronger,
despite the fact that she was a woman.

"Not bad Sorú! I can see you've been training hardly!"

"I need to ... or Zardus will put me out of here soon!" - he charged
at her, but she blocked his attack and threw him away.

"I don't think Zardus would give up of a great swordsman guy like you!
You have nothing to worry about!"

"You say that ..." - he attacked her again and again, but she always
blocked him, she just couldn't get him to drop the sword. - " ...
Cause he would never get ride of you!" - finally she managed to drop
his sword away, and her sword was right against his throat.

"You don't know what you're talking about?" - she lowered her sword,
and he stayed calm.

"Oh! I don't?" - he said, while making a scoffy smile.

"Zardus and I are friends for a long time ... but it is not because of
that that I'm your General!"

"I didn't said that! You're much better than I, but still ..."

"Still what?" - she asked concerned.

"Nothing! Just forget it!" - he left the room. Yukí stood still,
looking at her sword.

~*~*~

Next morning, Van's room:

Van opened his wardrobe, and was searching for something. He was only
wearing some beige pants.

"Royal vests! This sucks!" - he put his pointing finger on his mouth
and started gnawing his nail. Someone knocked on the door. - "Come in
please! The door is open!"

Farge entered, a little reluctant. - "Excuse me Van ... I need to talk
to you for a second!" - she closed the door but stayed close to it.

"What is it Farge?"

"Are you still mad at me?"

"No! I'm your friend, remember? Besides, you made me and yourself a
great favour!" - they smiled to each other. - "Can I ask you a great
favour Farge?"

"Yes! What do you want?"

"Help me choosing something to wear! I have a meeting with my council
in thirty minutes!" - Farge laughed.

"Typical!" - she said.

"What's typical?"

"You not knowing what to wear!"

"It's one of the things I hate about being a King!" - they both
laughed. - "Now, what did you came here for?"

"Well ..."

"Yes ..."

"I came to ask you if Drid could stay here for a while!"

"What?"

"Pleaseeeeeee!" - she begged him.

"Oh ... Ok! But behave yourself, ok?"

"YES! I love you Van!" - she gave him a kiss on the right side of his
face and went out.

"FARGE! ... What about the cloths?" - he sighed. - "As usual, I'll
have to chose for myself ..."

~*~*~

Later on Merle's room:

"Merle, can I come in?" - a voice came from the corridor.

"Marta, is that you?" - Merle asked happily.

"Yes!" - said the voice from the corridor.

"Come in! The others are in here too!"

Marta opened the door, and saw Merle, Hitomi, Christina, Farge and
Celena seating on the bed; and Mirana seating on a chair close to the
bed. - "Good morning people!" - she said after entering the room.

"Good morning Marta!" - they all said.

"Can I have a seat?" - she pointed at a chair close to the mirror.

"Of course!" - Merle replied.

As Marta took a seat she noticed they all had a strange smile on their
faces.

"WHAT?" - she asked (Marta).

"We heard it!" - Mirana said.

"Heard what?" - Marta asked concerned.

"You yelling at Van, yesterday!" - Celena firmed while making a small
smile. Marta blushed, now she knew the great show she had done.

"What about it?" - she desperately tried not to give it much
importance. - "And besides why are you talking about it, a day after
it all occurred?"

"Yesterday you were out all day!" - Farge said.

"Now that you mention it ... where were you yesterday?" - Hitomi
asked.

"I was ... well that's none of your business!"

"Uou, tiger! Hold on your claws!" - Christina joked.

"Hey, does that has anything with me?" - Merle was pissed off, about
the claws thing.

"Of course not Merle! It's a meaning of expression!" - Christina said.

"That's better!" - Merle lay down on her bed. - "Now tell us, Marta
... where were you?"

"I was riding a horse, to catch some fresh air and to putt my ideas in
the right place! Ok?" - Marta sighed.

"And what was that all about?" - Mirana asked.

"What?" - Marta asked, not knowing what she was talking about.

"The thing with Van!" - Mirana firmed.

"Did he entered your room ... again?" - Hitomi asked, curiosity was
killing her.

Marta tried to think of anything.

"No, not at all!"

"Than what happened? - Hitomi.

"Yeh! What was that all about?" - Celena asked.

"Well he ..." - nothing came to her mind. What was she suppose to say.
«Think, think fast!» - " ... he just accidentally broke my clock!" -
she finally managed to say.

"All that because of a clock?" - Christina was astonished.

"Well, it was a remembering from my pa ..." -they all turned and run
to the window as soon as they heard the sound of explosions.

"ATTACK! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!" - a soldier yelled.

Yeah! I finished another chapter! Once again, sorry for anything.
Maybe there are to Van/Marta dialogues, but it's all part of the
story.

Again, please e-mail me. It's really important for me to know if you,
readers, are liking or hating my fan fiction.

Finally the attack begun! What is the great secret of Marta? And why
was Zardus watching Hitomi, and most important why was he so kind to
Marta. All of your questions will be answered on the next chapters. Or
... maybe not! That thing with Marta will go for a while, and don't,
I'm telling you, don't think you know the meaning of that scar. You
can't imagine the half of Marta's past (That's why I am the one
writing it!).

Bye bye. See you soon.
