Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Welcome To My Life ❯ Karaoke Revolution and Randomness ( Chapter 9 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

BFK: w00t! Next chapter of WtML!
Terra: We get to play Karaoke Revolution, right? Right?
BFK: Well, duh. -points to chapter title-
Terra: Heh, heh. -laughs nervously-
Disclaimer: Dun own Yu-Gi-Oh, Karaoke Revolution, or the songs.
Okay, ON WITH THE FIC!

We raced down the stairs (or, at least, we Americans and Malik did-Yugi and Ryou took the sane route and hung back) to see who would get to what game system first. Isun and I tied at the Xbox, and we exchanged grins.
“KARAOKE REVOLUTION!” We both shouted, smacking hands. In an instant, most of the people in attendance at the party were gathered around the Xbox-Yugi, Ryou, and Aurora declined to participate, deciding to watch instead.
Isun had, by this point, gotten us to character selection, so all that was left to be decided was the order. “Okay, there are eleven people playing. Who wants to go first?”
“I will.” Josh said, grinning confidently.
“Your funeral.” Isun said, shrugging. In the end, the order was: Josh, Jake, Lexi, Isun, me, Miriku, Emily, Sree, Katy, May, Malik. We all selected our songs. Miriku bemoaned the lack of good rock music, and the game began. Josh was, of course, first, singing “Crawling in the Dark.”
I will dedicate, and sacrifice my every
Thing for just a second's worth, of how my story's ending
And I wish I could rule, the directions that I take
And all the choices that I make, won't end up all for nothing
Show me what it's for, make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
Is there something more, than what I've been handed
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
Help me carry on, show me it's okay to
Use my heart and not my eyes, to navigate the darkness
Will the ending be, ever coming suddenly
Will I ever get to see, the ending to my story
Show me what it's for, make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
Is there something more, than what I've been handed
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
So will it come will I know
How much further do I have to go
And how much longer 'til I finally know
'Cause I'm looking and I just can't see
What's in front of me, in front of me
Show me what it's for, make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
Is there something more, than what I've been handed
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer!”
We all cheered-he had managed Gold, and almost Platinum. (1) Next was Jake, doing “You Really Got Me.”
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know what I'm doin'
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know where I'm goin', yeah
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
You really got me
You really got me
You really got me
Please, don't ever let me be
I only wanna be by your side
Please, don't ever let me be
I only wanna be by your side
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know what I'm doin', yeah
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
You really got me
You really got me
You really got me
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know what I'm doin'
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know where I'm goin', yeah
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
You really got me
You really got me
You really got me!”
“Yet another Gold standard!” I commented, laughing.
Lexi was up next, singing “Complicated.”
Chill out whatcha yellin' for
Lay back it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be, you will see
I like you the way you are
When we're drivin' in your car
And you're talking to me one on one, but you've become
Somebody else, round everyone else
You're watching your back, like you can't relax,
You're trying to be cool, you look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No no no
You come over unannounced
Dressed up like you're somethin' else
Where you are and where it's at you see, you're making me
Laugh out when you strike your pose
Take off all your preppy clothes
You know you're not fooling anyone, when you've become
Somebody else, round everyone else
You're watching your back, like you can't relax
You're trying to be cool, you look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No no no, no no, no no, no no
Chill out whatcha yelling for
Lay back it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be, you will see
Somebody else, round everyone else
You're watching your back, like you can't relax
You're trying to be cool, you look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No no no
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No no no...”
Isun had chosen the ONLY Simple Plan song there was-“Addicted.”
I heard you're doing okay
But I want you to know
I'm addicted to you
I can't pretend I don't care
When you don't think about me
Do you think, I deserve this
I tried to make you happy but you left anyway
I'm trying to forget that, I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you
Now it's over, can't forget what you said
And I never, wanna do this again
Heartbreaker, heartbreaker, heartbreaker
Since the day I met you
And after all we've been through
I'm addicted to you
I think you know that it's true
I'd run a thousand miles to get you
Do you think, I deserve this
I tried to make you happy, I did all that I could
Just to keep you, but you left anyway
I'm trying to forget that, I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you
Now it's over, can't forget what you said
And I never, wanna do this again
Heartbreaker, heartbreaker, heartbreaker
How long will I be waiting
Until the end of time
I don't know why I'm still waiting
I can't make you mine
I'm trying to forget that, I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you
I'm trying to forget that, I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you
Now it's over, can't forget what you said
And I never, wanna do this again
Heartbreaker
Heartbreaker, I'm addicted to you
Heartbreaker, I'm addicted to you
Heartbreaker, I'm addicted to you
Heartbreaker, I'm addicted to you!”
“And the first Platnium of the game!” I said, a la sports announcer. I was next, doing “Are You Happy Now?”
Now don't just walk away
Pretending everything's ok
And you don't care about me
And I know it's just no use
When all your lies become your truths
And I don't care yeah yeah yeah
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now ooh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
You took all there was to take
And left me with an empty plate
And you don't care about it yeah
And I am givin' up this game
And leaving you with all the blame
'Cause I don't care yeah yeah yeah
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now ooh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased
Are you happy now? ooh
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now? yeah yeah yeah
Do you really have everything you want
You could never give something you regret
You can't run away from yourself
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now yeah
Come on tell it to my face or have I been erased
Are you happy now? yeah yeah oh
Would you look me in the eye
Could you look me in the eye
I've had that all I can take, I'm not about to break
Cause I'm happy now ooh
Are you happy now?”
I stared at my score. “Oh. My. God.” I had actually gone PLATNIUM for the first time!
Miriku was next. She was doing “Everything You Want,” which she had discovered was the only song she knew. I patted her shoulder understandingly-when I first played, the only songs I knew were “Complicated” and a few oldies.
Somewhere there's speaking, it's already coming in
Oh and it's rising at the back of your mind
You never could get it, unless you were fed it
Now you're here and you don't know why
But under skinned knees and the skid marks
Past the places where you used to learn
You howl and listen, listen and wait for the
Echoes of angels who won't return
He's everything you want, he's everything you need
He's everything inside of you that you wish you could be
He says all the right things, at exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you and you don't know why
You're waiting for someone, to put you together
You're waiting for someone, to push you away
There's always another, wound to discover
There's always something more you wish he'd say
He's everything you want, he's everything you need
He's everything inside of you that you wish you could be
He says all the right things, at exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you and you don't know why
But you'll just sit tight and watch it unwind
It's only what you're asking for
And you'll be just fine, with all of his time
It's only what you're waiting for
Out of the island, into the highway
Past the places where you might have turned
You never did notice, but you still hide away
The anger of angels who won't return
He's everything you want, he's everything you need
He's everything inside of you that you wish you could be
He says all the right things, at exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you and you don't know why
I am everything you want, I am everything you need
I am everything inside of you that you wish you could be
I say all the right things, at exactly the right time
But I mean nothing to you and I don't know why
And I don't know why, why
I don't know...”
We cheered for Miriku- for a first-timer, her score was pretty high-she'd managed Gold. I poked Emily.
“Your turn.” She was singing “All You Wanted.”
I wanted to be like you
I wanted everything
So I tried to be like you
And I got swept away
I didn't know that it was so cold and
You needed someone to show you the way
So I took you hand and we figured out that
When the tide comes I'll take you away
If you want to I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside, so busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares
I'm sinking slowly so hurry hold me
Your hand is all I have to keep me hanging on
Please can you tell me so I can finally see
Where you go when you're gone
If you want to I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside so busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares
All you wanted was somebody who cares
If you need me you know I'll be there, oh, oh, oh, yeah
If you want to I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside so busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah, oh
If you want to I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside so busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah, oh
Please can you tell me so I can finally see
Where you go when you're gone...”
“Great job, Emily!” I clapped her on the back-yet another Gold. Sree took the mic, singing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”
Well you're a real tough cookie with a long history
Of breaking little hearts, like the one in me
That's okay, let's see how you do it
Put up your dukes, let's get down to it
Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away
You come on with a come on, you don't fight fair
That's okay, see if I care
Knock me down, it's all in vain
I get right back on my feet again
Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away
You're a real tough cookie with a long history
Of breaking little hearts, like the one in me
Before I put another notch in my lipstick case
You better make sure you put me in my place
Hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away
Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away!”
I grinned. We were all doing really, really well so far! Katy was next. Her song? “One Week.” Very, very brave.
It's been one week since you looked at me
Cocked your head to the side and said "I'm angry"
Five days since you laughed at me sayin'
"Get that together come back and see me"
Three days since the living room
I realized it's all my fault but couldn't tell you
Yesterday, you'd forgiven me
But it'll still be two days 'til I say "I'm sorry"
Hold it now and watch the hoodwink
As I make you stop, think
You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi 'cause it never touched a frying pan
Hot like wasabi when I bust rhymes
Big like LeAnn Rimes
Because I'm all about value
Bert Kaempfert's got the mad hits
You try to match wits
You try to hold me but I bust through
Gonna make a break and take a fake
I'd like a stinkin' achin' shake
I like vanilla, it's the finest of the flavors
Gotta see the show, cause then you'll know
The vertigo is gonna grow
Cause it's so dangerous you'll have to sign a waiver
How can I help it when I think your funny when you're mad
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean? well, you soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of taking off my shirt
It's been one week since you looked at me
Threw your arms in the air and said "You're crazy"
Five days since you tackled me
I've still rug burns on both my knees
It's been three days since the afternoon
You realized it's not my fault, not a moment too soon
Yesterday, you'd forgiven me
And now I sit back and wait 'til you say You're sorry
Chickity China the Chinese chicken
You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin'
Watchin' X-Files with no lights on
We're dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man's in this one
Like Harrison Ford I'm getting frantic
Like Sing I'm tantric
Like Snickers guaranteed to satisfy
Like Kurasawa I make mad films, OK I don't make films
But if I did, they'd have a samurai
Gonna get a set of better clubs
Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs
Just so my irons aren't only flying off the back swing
Gonna get in toon with Sailor Moon
'Cause that cartoon has got the boom
Anime babes that make me think the wrong thing
How can I help it when I think you're funny when you're mad
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean? well, you soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of losing my shirt
It's been one week since you looked at me
Dropped you're arms to the side and said "I'm sorry"
Five days since I laughed at you and said
"You just did just what I thought you were gonna do"
Three days since the living room
We realized we're both to blame, but what could we do?
Yesterday, you just smiled at me
'Cause it'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry
It'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry
It'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry
Birchmount Stadium, home of the Robbie!”
I was amazed that she could sing so fast-the song went a mile a minute, I swore. May grinned.
“My turn!” She said cheerfully.
She was more like a beauty queen, from a movie scene
I said don't mind but what do you mean, I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
People always told me, be careful what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me, be careful of who you love
Be careful of what you do, 'cause the lie becomes the truth, hey hey
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
For forty days and forty nights, the law was on her side
But who can stand when she's in demand, her schemes and plans
Cause we danced on the floor in the round
So take my strong advice
Just remember to always think twice, do think twice
She told my baby we'd danced 'til three, as she looked at me
Then showed me photos my baby cried, eyes were like mine
Cause we danced on the floor in the round baby
People always told me, be careful what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
She came and stood right by me, just the smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon, she called me to her room, hey hey
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She said I am the one, but the kid is not my son
She says I am the one but the kid is not my son
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She said I am the one, but the kid is not my son
She said I am the one, she says he is my son
She said I am the one
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover...”
I sighed. May was really into Michael Jackson's music and I had to admit, he had been good before he went all gay and plastic-surgery-ified.
Malik gulped nervously. I would have patted his shoulder, but Isun beat me to it.
“It's alright, I'm sure you'll do fine.” She reassured him.
“Thanks, Isun.” He swallowed one last time, and began the song-“How You Remind Me.”
Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealin'
Tired of livin' like a blind man
I'm sick of sight without a sense of feeling
And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me of what I am really am
This is how you remind me of what I am really am
It's not like you say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no, yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
It's not like you didn't know that
I said I love you and I swear I still do
And it must have been so bad
Cause livin' with me must have damn near killed you
And this is how you remind me of what I really am
This is how you remind me of what I really am
It's not like you say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no, yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no, yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealin'
And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
This is how you remind me of what I really am
This is how you remind me of what I really am
It's not like you say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down
To the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah.”
I grinned. “Good job!”
“Thanks.” He said.
The game continued. On the third round, I did my best ever-the song was “Stop In The Name Of Love.”
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Baby, baby
I'm aware of where you go
Each time you leave my door
I watch you walk down the street
Knowing your other love you'll meet
But this time before you run to her
Leaving me alone and hurt
(Think it over) Haven't I been good to you ?
(Think it over) Haven't I been sweet to you ?
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over
I've known of your
Your secluded nights
I've even seen her
Maybe once or twice
But is her sweet expression
Worth more than my love and affection ?
But this time before you leave my arms
And rush of to her charms
(Think it over) Haven't I been good to you ?
(Think it over) Haven't I been sweet to you ?
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over
I've tried so hard, hard to be patient
Hoping you'd stop this infatuation
But each time you are together
I'm so afraid I'll be losing you forever
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Baby, think it over
Think it over, baby
Ooh, think it over baby...”
I had managed almost perfect. I LOVE that song!
Also, somehow, someone convinced me and Ryou to do a duet on “You're The One THat I Want.”
I started singing on my own.
I got chills, they're multiplyin'
And I'm losing control
Cause the power, you're supplyin'
It's electrifyin'
You better shape up, 'cause I need a man
And my heart is set on you
You better shape up, you better understand
To my heart I must be true
You're the one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed
If you're filled with affection
You're too shy to convey
Meditate in my direction
Feel your way...”
For the next verse, we alternated lines.
I better shape up, 'cause you need a man
Who can keep me satisfied
I better shape up, if I'm gonna prove
That my fate is justified
Yes I'm sure down deep inside...”
After that, we sang together.
You're the one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed!”
When we were done, the two of us could easily pass for tomatoes. Everyone was clapping, and we both sighed. The very last song was a tradition of ours-we all gathered around the microphone and sang “We Are Family.”
Wow..., say it to me
Yeah yeah yeah yeah-ie yeah..., wow...
We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up everybody and sing
Everyone can see we're together
as we walk on by...
and we fly just like birds of a feather
We know that's no lie-a-ie
All of the people around us to say...
Can we be that close
Just let me state for the record
We're giving love in a family dose, yeah
We are family
(Sing it to me...)
I got all my sisters with me, wow..., wow..., yeah
We are family, yeah yeah yeah yeah-ie yeah
Get up everybody and sing
Living life is fun and we've just begun
To get our share of the world's delights
High hopes we have for the future
And our goal's in sight
(WE,) no we don't get depressed
Here's what we call our golden rule...
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won't go wrong, oh-no
This is our family Jewel, yeah
We are family, wow...
(Sing it with me...)
I got all my sisters with me, yeah yeah
We are family
Get up everybody and sing, whoa-o, yeah
We are family, yeah yeah yeah yeah-ie yeah
I got all my sisters with me, yeah yeah
We are family
Get up everybody and sing, here we go
We are family
(Are you gonna sing it)
I got all my sisters with me
We are family, (come on everybody)
Get up everybody and sing, wow...-o..., yeah...
We are family, wow...
I got all my sisters with me, yeah
We are family
Get up everybody and sing, yeah-ie yeah-ie yeah
We are family, wow...
(Sing it to me..).
I got all my sisters with me, wow...
We are family, yeah yeah yeah yeah-ie yeah
Get up everybody and sing, wow...
We are family, wow..., (I got all my sister with me)
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
We are family
Get up everybody and sing
We are family!”
As the night went on, we dueled, the score being Kemisi: 7, Ialu: 0 (I had to take a page out of Pegasus' book: “No one can get up after that total of a defeat-except Ialu, of course. Oops, did I say that out loud?”) played more video games, et cetera.
At about 8:00, Mr. Malekghassemi called everyone upstairs for dinner. Well, to help set up for dinner (as well as eat it.) The first 15 minutes were filled with directions.
“Okay, girls? Set the table. Boys? I want all of you to clean off the table and wash whatever's in the sink. Except for the gentleman who arrived in the car, put my car in the garage, a scratch and I'll sue you.” He threw the keys at Josh, who exclaimed,
“Whoa! These are Mercedes keys!”
Isun's POV
“Like I said,” my dad smiled, “Not a scratch! Isun, you are in charge until further notice. Who wants to help grill the burgers?”
“I'll do it!” Terra volunteered. “I have to cook for myself all the time anyway.” She shrugged.
“Well, you aren't dead yet, so good sign...uhh...sure. You and...you!” He pointed at Lexi. She grinned and rolled her eyes, as if saying “great...” sarcastically. Both girls trooped outside with my dad to grill the burgers.
Ten minutes later, they were done and we all ate. By this time, Josh was back from putting my dad's car in the garage. We finished eating, an my dad had us clear the table before we were allowed back downstairs.
Once we got there, for some reason, the Pharaoh ended up next to his hikari. I saw Sree grinning evilly, and opened my mouth to warn him, but Kemisi stopped me.
“This'll be too funny for me to let you ruin it.” She said under her breath. I sighed.
Sree snuck up behind him.
“Blargashmarg!” She shouted, leaping up. He jumped a foot in the air, before turning around slowly.
“Uhh...yeah. Sure.” He edged away from her.
“Oh yeah, I scared the Pharaoh!” Sree grinned, and proceeded to disco. Kemisi was doubled over in laughter, and Terra was leaning against the wall, attempting to catch her breath.
“Oh god, Sree, that...was...priceless...” She gasped out. I nodded.
“Nice one.” I said. The Pharaoh crossed his arms and leaned against a wall.
“I didn't find it amusing.” He said flatly. I grinned.
“That's the point.”
BFK: w00t! Next chapter of WtML!
Terra: We get to play Karaoke Revolution, right? Right?
BFK: Well, duh. -points to chapter title-
Terra: Heh, heh. -laughs nervously-
Disclaimer: Dun own Yu-Gi-Oh, Karaoke Revolution, or the songs.
Okay, ON WITH THE FIC!

We raced down the stairs (or, at least, we Americans and Malik did-Yugi and Ryou took the sane route and hung back) to see who would get to what game system first. Isun and I tied at the Xbox, and we exchanged grins.
“KARAOKE REVOLUTION!” We both shouted, smacking hands. In an instant, most of the people in attendance at the party were gathered around the Xbox-Yugi, Ryou, and Aurora declined to participate, deciding to watch instead.
Isun had, by this point, gotten us to character selection, so all that was left to be decided was the order. “Okay, there are eleven people playing. Who wants to go first?”
“I will.” Josh said, grinning confidently.
“Your funeral.” Isun said, shrugging. In the end, the order was: Josh, Jake, Lexi, Isun, me, Miriku, Emily, Sree, Katy, May, Malik. We all selected our songs. Miriku bemoaned the lack of good rock music, and the game began. Josh was, of course, first, singing “Crawling in the Dark.”
I will dedicate, and sacrifice my every
Thing for just a second's worth, of how my story's ending
And I wish I could rule, the directions that I take
And all the choices that I make, won't end up all for nothing
Show me what it's for, make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
Is there something more, than what I've been handed
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
Help me carry on, show me it's okay to
Use my heart and not my eyes, to navigate the darkness
Will the ending be, ever coming suddenly
Will I ever get to see, the ending to my story
Show me what it's for, make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
Is there something more, than what I've been handed
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
So will it come will I know
How much further do I have to go
And how much longer 'til I finally know
'Cause I'm looking and I just can't see
What's in front of me, in front of me
Show me what it's for, make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer
Is there something more, than what I've been handed
I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer!”
We all cheered-he had managed Gold, and almost Platinum. (1) Next was Jake, doing “You Really Got Me.”
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know what I'm doin'
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know where I'm goin', yeah
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
You really got me
You really got me
You really got me
Please, don't ever let me be
I only wanna be by your side
Please, don't ever let me be
I only wanna be by your side
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know what I'm doin', yeah
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
You really got me
You really got me
You really got me
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know what I'm doin'
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
Girl, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know where I'm goin', yeah
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night
You really got me
You really got me
You really got me!”
“Yet another Gold standard!” I commented, laughing.
Lexi was up next, singing “Complicated.”
Chill out whatcha yellin' for
Lay back it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be, you will see
I like you the way you are
When we're drivin' in your car
And you're talking to me one on one, but you've become
Somebody else, round everyone else
You're watching your back, like you can't relax,
You're trying to be cool, you look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No no no
You come over unannounced
Dressed up like you're somethin' else
Where you are and where it's at you see, you're making me
Laugh out when you strike your pose
Take off all your preppy clothes
You know you're not fooling anyone, when you've become
Somebody else, round everyone else
You're watching your back, like you can't relax
You're trying to be cool, you look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No no no, no no, no no, no no
Chill out whatcha yelling for
Lay back it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be, you will see
Somebody else, round everyone else
You're watching your back, like you can't relax
You're trying to be cool, you look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No no no
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No no no...”
Isun had chosen the ONLY Simple Plan song there was-“Addicted.”
I heard you're doing okay
But I want you to know
I'm addicted to you
I can't pretend I don't care
When you don't think about me
Do you think, I deserve this
I tried to make you happy but you left anyway
I'm trying to forget that, I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you
Now it's over, can't forget what you said
And I never, wanna do this again
Heartbreaker, heartbreaker, heartbreaker
Since the day I met you
And after all we've been through
I'm addicted to you
I think you know that it's true
I'd run a thousand miles to get you
Do you think, I deserve this
I tried to make you happy, I did all that I could
Just to keep you, but you left anyway
I'm trying to forget that, I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you
Now it's over, can't forget what you said
And I never, wanna do this again
Heartbreaker, heartbreaker, heartbreaker
How long will I be waiting
Until the end of time
I don't know why I'm still waiting
I can't make you mine
I'm trying to forget that, I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you
I'm trying to forget that, I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you
Now it's over, can't forget what you said
And I never, wanna do this again
Heartbreaker
Heartbreaker, I'm addicted to you
Heartbreaker, I'm addicted to you
Heartbreaker, I'm addicted to you
Heartbreaker, I'm addicted to you!”
“And the first Platnium of the game!” I said, a la sports announcer. I was next, doing “Are You Happy Now?”
Now don't just walk away
Pretending everything's ok
And you don't care about me
And I know it's just no use
When all your lies become your truths
And I don't care yeah yeah yeah
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now ooh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
You took all there was to take
And left me with an empty plate
And you don't care about it yeah
And I am givin' up this game
And leaving you with all the blame
'Cause I don't care yeah yeah yeah
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now ooh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased
Are you happy now? ooh
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now? yeah yeah yeah
Do you really have everything you want
You could never give something you regret
You can't run away from yourself
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you're happy now yeah
Come on tell it to my face or have I been erased
Are you happy now? yeah yeah oh
Would you look me in the eye
Could you look me in the eye
I've had that all I can take, I'm not about to break
Cause I'm happy now ooh
Are you happy now?”
I stared at my score. “Oh. My. God.” I had actually gone PLATNIUM for the first time!
Miriku was next. She was doing “Everything You Want,” which she had discovered was the only song she knew. I patted her shoulder understandingly-when I first played, the only songs I knew were “Complicated” and a few oldies.
Somewhere there's speaking, it's already coming in
Oh and it's rising at the back of your mind
You never could get it, unless you were fed it
Now you're here and you don't know why
But under skinned knees and the skid marks
Past the places where you used to learn
You howl and listen, listen and wait for the
Echoes of angels who won't return
He's everything you want, he's everything you need
He's everything inside of you that you wish you could be
He says all the right things, at exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you and you don't know why
You're waiting for someone, to put you together
You're waiting for someone, to push you away
There's always another, wound to discover
There's always something more you wish he'd say
He's everything you want, he's everything you need
He's everything inside of you that you wish you could be
He says all the right things, at exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you and you don't know why
But you'll just sit tight and watch it unwind
It's only what you're asking for
And you'll be just fine, with all of his time
It's only what you're waiting for
Out of the island, into the highway
Past the places where you might have turned
You never did notice, but you still hide away
The anger of angels who won't return
He's everything you want, he's everything you need
He's everything inside of you that you wish you could be
He says all the right things, at exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you and you don't know why
I am everything you want, I am everything you need
I am everything inside of you that you wish you could be
I say all the right things, at exactly the right time
But I mean nothing to you and I don't know why
And I don't know why, why
I don't know...”
We cheered for Miriku- for a first-timer, her score was pretty high-she'd managed Gold. I poked Emily.
“Your turn.” She was singing “All You Wanted.”
I wanted to be like you
I wanted everything
So I tried to be like you
And I got swept away
I didn't know that it was so cold and
You needed someone to show you the way
So I took you hand and we figured out that
When the tide comes I'll take you away
If you want to I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside, so busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares
I'm sinking slowly so hurry hold me
Your hand is all I have to keep me hanging on
Please can you tell me so I can finally see
Where you go when you're gone
If you want to I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside so busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares
All you wanted was somebody who cares
If you need me you know I'll be there, oh, oh, oh, yeah
If you want to I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside so busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah, oh
If you want to I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside so busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah, oh
Please can you tell me so I can finally see
Where you go when you're gone...”
“Great job, Emily!” I clapped her on the back-yet another Gold. Sree took the mic, singing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”
Well you're a real tough cookie with a long history
Of breaking little hearts, like the one in me
That's okay, let's see how you do it
Put up your dukes, let's get down to it
Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away
You come on with a come on, you don't fight fair
That's okay, see if I care
Knock me down, it's all in vain
I get right back on my feet again
Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away
You're a real tough cookie with a long history
Of breaking little hearts, like the one in me
Before I put another notch in my lipstick case
You better make sure you put me in my place
Hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away
Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away!”
I grinned. We were all doing really, really well so far! Katy was next. Her song? “One Week.” Very, very brave.
It's been one week since you looked at me
Cocked your head to the side and said "I'm angry"
Five days since you laughed at me sayin'
"Get that together come back and see me"
Three days since the living room
I realized it's all my fault but couldn't tell you
Yesterday, you'd forgiven me
But it'll still be two days 'til I say "I'm sorry"
Hold it now and watch the hoodwink
As I make you stop, think
You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi 'cause it never touched a frying pan
Hot like wasabi when I bust rhymes
Big like LeAnn Rimes
Because I'm all about value
Bert Kaempfert's got the mad hits
You try to match wits
You try to hold me but I bust through
Gonna make a break and take a fake
I'd like a stinkin' achin' shake
I like vanilla, it's the finest of the flavors
Gotta see the show, cause then you'll know
The vertigo is gonna grow
Cause it's so dangerous you'll have to sign a waiver
How can I help it when I think your funny when you're mad
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean? well, you soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of taking off my shirt
It's been one week since you looked at me
Threw your arms in the air and said "You're crazy"
Five days since you tackled me
I've still rug burns on both my knees
It's been three days since the afternoon
You realized it's not my fault, not a moment too soon
Yesterday, you'd forgiven me
And now I sit back and wait 'til you say You're sorry
Chickity China the Chinese chicken
You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin'
Watchin' X-Files with no lights on
We're dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man's in this one
Like Harrison Ford I'm getting frantic
Like Sing I'm tantric
Like Snickers guaranteed to satisfy
Like Kurasawa I make mad films, OK I don't make films
But if I did, they'd have a samurai
Gonna get a set of better clubs
Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs
Just so my irons aren't only flying off the back swing
Gonna get in toon with Sailor Moon
'Cause that cartoon has got the boom
Anime babes that make me think the wrong thing
How can I help it when I think you're funny when you're mad
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean? well, you soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of losing my shirt
It's been one week since you looked at me
Dropped you're arms to the side and said "I'm sorry"
Five days since I laughed at you and said
"You just did just what I thought you were gonna do"
Three days since the living room
We realized we're both to blame, but what could we do?
Yesterday, you just smiled at me
'Cause it'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry
It'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry
It'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry
Birchmount Stadium, home of the Robbie!”
I was amazed that she could sing so fast-the song went a mile a minute, I swore. May grinned.
“My turn!” She said cheerfully.
She was more like a beauty queen, from a movie scene
I said don't mind but what do you mean, I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
People always told me, be careful what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me, be careful of who you love
Be careful of what you do, 'cause the lie becomes the truth, hey hey
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
For forty days and forty nights, the law was on her side
But who can stand when she's in demand, her schemes and plans
Cause we danced on the floor in the round
So take my strong advice
Just remember to always think twice, do think twice
She told my baby we'd danced 'til three, as she looked at me
Then showed me photos my baby cried, eyes were like mine
Cause we danced on the floor in the round baby
People always told me, be careful what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
She came and stood right by me, just the smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon, she called me to her room, hey hey
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She said I am the one, but the kid is not my son
She says I am the one but the kid is not my son
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She said I am the one, but the kid is not my son
She said I am the one, she says he is my son
She said I am the one
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover...”
I sighed. May was really into Michael Jackson's music and I had to admit, he had been good before he went all gay and plastic-surgery-ified.
Malik gulped nervously. I would have patted his shoulder, but Isun beat me to it.
“It's alright, I'm sure you'll do fine.” She reassured him.
“Thanks, Isun.” He swallowed one last time, and began the song-“How You Remind Me.”
Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealin'
Tired of livin' like a blind man
I'm sick of sight without a sense of feeling
And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me of what I am really am
This is how you remind me of what I am really am
It's not like you say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no, yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
It's not like you didn't know that
I said I love you and I swear I still do
And it must have been so bad
Cause livin' with me must have damn near killed you
And this is how you remind me of what I really am
This is how you remind me of what I really am
It's not like you say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no, yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no, yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealin'
And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
This is how you remind me of what I really am
This is how you remind me of what I really am
It's not like you say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down
To the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet
Yeah, yeah.”
I grinned. “Good job!”
“Thanks.” He said.
The game continued. On the third round, I did my best ever-the song was “Stop In The Name Of Love.”
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Baby, baby
I'm aware of where you go
Each time you leave my door
I watch you walk down the street
Knowing your other love you'll meet
But this time before you run to her
Leaving me alone and hurt
(Think it over) Haven't I been good to you ?
(Think it over) Haven't I been sweet to you ?
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over
I've known of your
Your secluded nights
I've even seen her
Maybe once or twice
But is her sweet expression
Worth more than my love and affection ?
But this time before you leave my arms
And rush of to her charms
(Think it over) Haven't I been good to you ?
(Think it over) Haven't I been sweet to you ?
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over
I've tried so hard, hard to be patient
Hoping you'd stop this infatuation
But each time you are together
I'm so afraid I'll be losing you forever
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! In the name of love
Before you break my heart
Baby, think it over
Think it over, baby
Ooh, think it over baby...”
I had managed almost perfect. I LOVE that song!
Also, somehow, someone convinced me and Ryou to do a duet on “You're The One THat I Want.”
I started singing on my own.
I got chills, they're multiplyin'
And I'm losing control
Cause the power, you're supplyin'
It's electrifyin'
You better shape up, 'cause I need a man
And my heart is set on you
You better shape up, you better understand
To my heart I must be true
You're the one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed
If you're filled with affection
You're too shy to convey
Meditate in my direction
Feel your way...”
For the next verse, we alternated lines.
I better shape up, 'cause you need a man
Who can keep me satisfied
I better shape up, if I'm gonna prove
That my fate is justified
Yes I'm sure down deep inside...”
After that, we sang together.
You're the one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want
Ooh ooh ooh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed!”
When we were done, the two of us could easily pass for tomatoes. Everyone was clapping, and we both sighed. The very last song was a tradition of ours-we all gathered around the microphone and sang “We Are Family.”
Wow..., say it to me
Yeah yeah yeah yeah-ie yeah..., wow...
We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up everybody and sing
Everyone can see we're together
as we walk on by...
and we fly just like birds of a feather
We know that's no lie-a-ie
All of the people around us to say...
Can we be that close
Just let me state for the record
We're giving love in a family dose, yeah
We are family
(Sing it to me...)
I got all my sisters with me, wow..., wow..., yeah
We are family, yeah yeah yeah yeah-ie yeah
Get up everybody and sing
Living life is fun and we've just begun
To get our share of the world's delights
High hopes we have for the future
And our goal's in sight
(WE,) no we don't get depressed
Here's what we call our golden rule...
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won't go wrong, oh-no
This is our family Jewel, yeah
We are family, wow...
(Sing it with me...)
I got all my sisters with me, yeah yeah
We are family
Get up everybody and sing, whoa-o, yeah
We are family, yeah yeah yeah yeah-ie yeah
I got all my sisters with me, yeah yeah
We are family
Get up everybody and sing, here we go
We are family
(Are you gonna sing it)
I got all my sisters with me
We are family, (come on everybody)
Get up everybody and sing, wow...-o..., yeah...
We are family, wow...
I got all my sisters with me, yeah
We are family
Get up everybody and sing, yeah-ie yeah-ie yeah
We are family, wow...
(Sing it to me..).
I got all my sisters with me, wow...
We are family, yeah yeah yeah yeah-ie yeah
Get up everybody and sing, wow...
We are family, wow..., (I got all my sister with me)
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
We are family
Get up everybody and sing
We are family!”
As the night went on, we dueled, the score being Kemisi: 7, Ialu: 0 (I had to take a page out of Pegasus' book: “No one can get up after that total of a defeat-except Ialu, of course. Oops, did I say that out loud?”) played more video games, et cetera.
At about 8:00, Mr. Malekghassemi called everyone upstairs for dinner. Well, to help set up for dinner (as well as eat it.) The first 15 minutes were filled with directions.
“Okay, girls? Set the table. Boys? I want all of you to clean off the table and wash whatever's in the sink. Except for the gentleman who arrived in the car, put my car in the garage, a scratch and I'll sue you.” He threw the keys at Josh, who exclaimed,
“Whoa! These are Mercedes keys!”
Isun's POV
“Like I said,” my dad smiled, “Not a scratch! Isun, you are in charge until further notice. Who wants to help grill the burgers?”
“I'll do it!” Terra volunteered. “I have to cook for myself all the time anyway.” She shrugged.
“Well, you aren't dead yet, so good sign...uhh...sure. You and...you!” He pointed at Lexi. She grinned and rolled her eyes, as if saying “great...” sarcastically. Both girls trooped outside with my dad to grill the burgers.
Ten minutes later, they were done and we all ate. By this time, Josh was back from putting my dad's car in the garage. We finished eating, an my dad had us clear the table before we were allowed back downstairs.
Once we got there, for some reason, the Pharaoh ended up next to his hikari. I saw Sree grinning evilly, and opened my mouth to warn him, but Kemisi stopped me.
“This'll be too funny for me to let you ruin it.” She said under her breath. I sighed.
Sree snuck up behind him.
“Blargashmarg!” She shouted, leaping up. He jumped a foot in the air, before turning around slowly.
“Uhh...yeah. Sure.” He edged away from her.
“Oh yeah, I scared the Pharaoh!” Sree grinned, and proceeded to disco. Kemisi was doubled over in laughter, and Terra was leaning against the wall, attempting to catch her breath.
“Oh god, Sree, that...was...priceless...” She gasped out. I nodded.
“Nice one.” I said. The Pharaoh crossed his arms and leaned against a wall.
“I didn't find it amusing.” He said flatly. I grinned.
“That's the point.”

BFK: I like that as an ending spot. Sree, I'm sorry that more didn't happen with you, I'll try to feature you majorly next chapter and user a few more lines!
