Rain.

Cold... hard... unforgiving rain.

The sky grey like steel, the pavement cold and slick. Forest green eyes stared upward at the never-ending sky, rain drops hitting them, fluttering down the long black lashes. A quiet understanding of what this day was... what this momentary existance was...

The boy knew his place.

Here. His place was here.

He belonged amongst those that he had saved, those that trusted him, albeit his very existance on this plane was a lie in and of itself, but someone like him... something like him... belonged in this world of blissful ignorance.

Such a hard truth, however, didn't stop him from dreaming, just as the rain didn't stop him from returning home. He needed salvation from this terrible nightmare that was this meaningless existance among humans. He thought about them often. He would see them, busy to get to their jobs, schools, or homes. Never once did they stop to think that they had something else to live for. On occasion, they would stop... stare at the sky and think of their place in the universe and of existance.

But the realization of their small, meaningless lives was often too much to handle and either led to them brushing the thought aside and blaming it on chemical imbalances of some sort, or led to them being carried off and strapped up. Such thoughts were a danger to the society.

It wasn't that different... really, it wasn't. His past life hadn't been so different from theirs.

He had been famous in the demon realm. People feared him and he considered himself to be no less than godly, as did most others. Yet, that doesn't mean that he had some large part in existance, or how things shaped up to be the way they are. Not once did he consider that he wasn't such a large role in the universe, and just like the others, everytime he would, he thought nothing of it.

Remembering that...

He had always wondered...

What made his existance so different than back then?

Truly...

Truly, it was obvious. The untrained eye could clearly see a difference in the actions between the feared Youko Kurama and the now peaceful Shuuichi Minamino. There was one difference.

Now, he had something to live for... someone rather.

Ever since he met him, his actions had changed greatly.

He had something to live for... a reason to be cautious. Back then, he would have agreed to a suicidal mission, if he knew that there was at least a 2% chance of survival and a heavy payment. But these days, the thoughts of loosing all that was dear to him made him weary.

Ironic, he thought it was, that the one person that made him want to live... the one person that he cared for most... was the same person that loathed such relationships. He often found it funny how confused those poor eyes would look, caught between absolute bliss and complete hatred.

Truth was, Kurama was no different. He feared such attachment, mostly for the reason he kept it around.

He couldn't live without it.

He couldn't live without him.

Of course, with the large seperation, it was difficult. Being in seperate realms weighed heavy on the fox's heart, and with both having such heavy obligations, they knew that staying together was near impossible.

They had found distractions, just to get through the day.

Kurama's work load had increased 3 fold, and the house was always spotless. His hair had grown significantly, since he brushed it often. Not to mention that his pop culture knowledge had also gone up quite a few notches, since he had watched nearly every movie known to man.

But...

Even with those distractions he still couldn't help but think of him...

Everytime it rained.
