Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ The Hidden Past, The Hopeful Future ❯ Skipping School & Training With Kurama ( Chapter 17 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

AnimeFox1940: Okay!!! Hola all!! I quickly made this new chapter!! I tried to make it a little longer than the rest. I'm not sure if it's much longer. I hope you guys don't hate me!! >-<

BlackCat116: Hm.

AnimeFox1940: She doesn't know what to say. ^-^ Sorry for the wait!!! But I made this one faster than the other one, you have to admit, so I'm not doing so bad!!! Anyways, I DO NOT own YYH. Only Kena and her family. Hell, I don't even own Kanna. Emly does. But, Emly is giving me all rights to use Kanna and same goes for me for Kena in her story. Oh! And Also, Shuillin, you asked if those were pretty harsh words for a 5 year old. Well, they would be, but Kanna is a very....*cough* Different child. Like how she was playing with the rubber band on her wrist. When you do that, it basically results to the same thing as well.....*cough* Cutting yourself. Yeah...You'll find out very soon though, why Kanna does all those, creepy things. If it's not too obvious already. Here's some hints. In the last chapter, she said she hated her mom.

BlackCat116: So, I guess you can just read on!!! NO FLAMES! ^-^

~~~
Kena opened her eyes reluctantly as she felt warmth on her face. But, unlike the happy morning she was hoping for, she soon became aware of the loud alarm sounding very close to her ear. She kept her eyes closed and reached for the sound, not wanting to actually see anything right now because sleep was still there. She, of course, was not a morning person. The next thing she knew the annoying sound went from her hand to being flung across the room, only to slam against a wall.
And as soon as that happened, someone jumped up next to her. 'Who would jump up next to me? This is my bed...in my room....Right?' Kena was still partially lost in sleep, her eyes still closed as she tried to reason with herself and tried to think where she was, only to pull up a blank. That is until she heard him.
"First my computer then my alarm clock. Great." The voice was familiar but sarcastic. Very sarcastic. But, it still made her eyes snap open and she darted up from her place on the bed, quickly looking around. She regretted opening her eyes so quickly because they were quickly filled with late morning light that burned though the window and she almost hissed out in pain.
"Ah," She groaned out, shoving her face back into the pillow. She lifted her head just a bit to let her eyes cast over to were the alarm clock now lay, not shattered into pieces but slightly cracked in some places. 'Hey, at least the sound stopped.' Kena quickly bit her bottom lip at that thought, guilt coming back. 'Really, how many things of his must I ruin?' "Sorry." She then whispered, not looking back to him. "What time is it?"
"I don't know. My alarm clock was killed." Kurama, once again, said sarcastically. He had just woke up as well as her, and this was not how he wanted to start a potentially normal morning. "But, It looks pretty late. Maybe 10 or so..." He trailed off when she gasped and he just sighed.
"WE'RE LATE!!!" She screamed in a horrified tone. "It's only my second day and I'm already more than 2 hours late?!?! Oh!!! Kami!!! Mom isn't going to like this..." Her eyes glazed over with slight worry and she snapped her glace back to Kurama. "What are we going to do?!"
"I thought you couldn't care less about school. Correct me if I am wrong." He said, no emotion really used in his tone.
"Well, I don't like it or enjoy it or anything! It's just, Mother get's so...So...Uptight about these things. She doesn't ground me or that such, but she does seem disappointed." Kena paused and avoided Kurama's eyes, her own still glossed with worry. Kurama almost started to feel sympathetic. He opened his mouth to say something comforting to her, but then she cut him off. "All well." She shrugged gently and lied back down on the bed.
"Oh, no you don't! If we're going to be absent the least we can do is train." Kurama's voice took on a dominate tone, almost bossy. But, Genkai would suggest training either way.
Kena let out another long groan. "Kurama, can I at least sleep for a little--" Kena was cut off when someone slid their door open quickly and walked in. Their feet pounded against the polished wood of Kurama’s floor as they ran into the room, and then Kena's eyes took in Yusuke and Kuwabara, both with a glass of ice water at hand.
"Aw, Shit. You guys are already awake." Yusuke grumbled, glaring at Kena and Kurama.
"Maybe next time, man." Kuwabara said as he and Yusuke walked back out, their enthusiasm gone.
There was silence as the door slowly slid closed again, and Kena looked over to Kurama, both of whom stared and blinked at each other.
"Were they going to do what I think they were?" Kurama asked her.
Kena paused for a second then nodded. "I hate them." She concluded, a smile creeping onto her face as she crawled out of the bed. She walked over to where the alarm clock was cowered on the ground, some parts missing, but other than that it worked, still showing the time. 10:47 flashed in red as Kena started at it. "Sorry." She muttered again, leaning forward and picking it up.
Kurama watched. He wasn't sure what to say.
*Awww....She's sad.* Yoko said, smiling wickedly.
Kurama rolled his eyes mentally and heard himself say, "It's okay, Kena. I myself find it sometimes very hard to not do the same." As he himself crawled out of bed, he gave her a smile which she slowly returned.
"So..." Kena started, braking off the eerie silence. "What now?" She then slowly asked.
Kurama thought then his bright green eyes met her dark purple. "First normal morning routine, breakfast, then training."
~~~

Kena let a loud grunt escape her throat as she lost her footing, the earth shifting under her feet, and yet at the same time, she was still trying to dodge Kurama's swift attacks towards her.

Genkai was smiling that morning when Kurama had told her that they were going to train. Turns out, everyone had woke up late, so she had been thinking about making them train in the first place. So, since Hiei disappeared a little before she could decide, muttering things under his breath like how he didn't want to train with such weak baka's, she teamed up Kuwabara and Yusuke and Kurama and Kena.

So, Kurama took her a separate direction in which Kuwabara and Yusuke went. Kena questioned him, but he just answered, "That's the point of teaming up, to fight against each other. I don't think we want to get hit with Yusuke's spirit gun just as much as he doesn't want to get hit by your fire." Kena had also questioned him about how he knew of that, because she distinctively remembered telling no one that she had the element of fire. But then he told her smartly, "I remembered your story. You mentioned that you were cold while it was snowing, and you said that that was one of the bad traits of having the ability over fire."

Kena couldn't help but blush and glare, cursing at how he could remember such little details. But, unknown to her, Yoko had reminded Kurama, telling him that Kena had used a fire bow and arrow.

But now they were back to this situation, Kena jumping back and flipping in the air, desperately trying to get away from that whip Kurama wielded. Kena was so caught up in thought that she had just barely back flipped out of the way as the whip came lashing out towards her.

Kena quickly got herself into check, 'Stop thinking and fight already!' She screamed to herself, knowing if this kept up, she could be killed. She ran from her opponent and let the energy of her fire be lead into her right index finger, waiting for him to get into range as she slowed down her pace. She waited for a fast second then quickly snapped around, extending her index finger and letting the flames fly out, shooting towards her enemy.

Kurama easily dodged, much to her dismay, and lashed his Rose Whip at her again. But, she back flipped, again.

*Damn.* Yoko thought. *She's actually pretty good at dodging. I guess Takahashi caught her off guard that night.*

'But that's the point, to not get off guard.' Kurama said back, a smile creeping onto his face as Kena ran backwards. She saw that smile and seemed to freak out, not knowing what to do. Then, that's when it happened.

Kena let out a small yelp as something came in contact with the back of her foot. And since she was running backwards, she had no clue of what it was. She just knew that Kurama took it as an advantage.

As she tumbled back, Kurama came forward, falling on her. She quickly looked up at him and glared. He had her pinned, he on top and was holding her down by her shoulders. He soon smiled at her, and she glared more, knowing he was only an arm length away. 'So close to hit him...SO CLOSE!' She thought, still glaring. But, he had her.

"Yield." He then said, looking down at her.

Kena's face went blank for a second. She knew what it meant, but she just couldn't believe he was going to make her say it. "What?" She then asked and shook her head when some of that red hair fell onto her face tickling her cheeks slightly.

"Yield. Give up. Forfeit." He would have continued but Kena cut him off.

"I know what the hell it means but why do you want me to say it?!" She screamed up at him.

*Because that’s what makes this so fun.* Yoko said, smirking.

Kurama just smiled again. Kena would have kicked him, but she felt that something was wrapped around her ankles. And that something...was...moving?!

Kena's eyes widened slightly as her body went into a panic. She had no clue what was on her legs, wrapping around her ankles, but it was keeping her on the ground, not letting her kick. And, it kept moving, getting tighter. Not too tight that it hurt, but still tight enough to keep her down without much of a fight.

"Something's on me! Get it off!" Kena yelled.

"Kena, if this was a real battle, you're opponent wouldn't just get off." Kurama told her. "Actually, you'd long be gone and dead by now." He then added bluntly.

"Why are you so blunt and mean as soon as we get to the temple!? You're all polite and kind in school!" Kena pointed out, still struggling against his grip, also against whatever was on coiling around her ankles.

"That was before you broke my computer." He said in a teasing matter, and Kena couldn't help but smile back. Then she stopped and glared again.

"You're really getting on my last nerve." Kena the told him, lying.

"Yield?" He asked this time.

"No!"

Kurama let out a long sigh. "Then I guess we're going to be here all night." Kurama gave her a serious look. "Yield. Now."

Kena opened her mouth then paused for a long while. That serious look he was giving her. It looked so familiar. Except, it wasn't used on him before. 'Ugh. Don't tell me. Yes. It does. It reminds me of the Kitsune. Knock it off already, Kena! Stop thinking about him!!' Kena closed her mouth and felt her body, particularly her cheeks, grow warm at the fact that she had to remind herself to stop thinking about him. Again. Which meant that she thought about him more than once. Which makes it often. 'Can you blame me? It was a pretty bad first impression.' She thought quickly.

Kurama gazed down at her and he noticed an irregular tint of light pink stain her cheeks as she averted her eyes.

*Blushing? Is she capable of doing that?* Yoko asked no one and started to chuckle softly to himself. *Now we just must get her to do that more often. She’s cute like that*

Kurama sighed again, now choosing to ignore Yoko. Yoko wasn’t exactly being nice to Kurama at the moment, and the position that he and Kena were in at the moment was not helping the red-head at all. "Kena. Please. Just yield." She looked back up to him, the blush slightly there but starting to fade.

"On ONE condition."

"And what's that?" Kurama asked curiously.

"We can cut training short. Otherwise, no way. I'm not gonna do it." She told him, and would cross her arms if she could.

Kurama paused. "Slacker." He then said, smiling.

Kena smiled back. "Hey! I'm not a slacker! I LOVE my job. That's why I just always choose to save it for the next day." Kena told him, causing him to chuckle slightly. That caused Kena to smile again. "Okay, okay, already! I yield, I yield!" She told him.

Kurama quickly got off of her and Kena quickly sat up and looked at her ankles. There were very think vines coiling around her white socks. "I'm guessing this is your pet?" Kena asked, trying to scoot away. She clutched for anything in reach as it tightened.

Kurama smirked slightly. "It's not my 'pet'. But, If you haven't noticed already, I have the power of plants."

"Oh, really? I could have never guessed." Kena confirmed, her voice dripping with obvious sarcasm. Kurama bent over and with just a touch the plaint burrowed back into the earth and Kena got her ankles back. "Thank you!" She then said happily, pulling her legs up to her chest and resting her cheek on her right knee. She was wearing grey shorts and a purple muscle shirt and her hair was also tied back in a high pony tail, but she had to admit it was still a hot day.

She had chose to seat herself under the shade of a tree and there she pulled out her water bottle and took a long drink. She couldn't help but smile when the cool, clear, liquid slid down her throat, only making her more thirsty. But then she stopped and looked up. Kurama was watching her. "Yes?" She asked, hearing her voice a little unsure.

"You never finished your story." Kurama said, his eyes still boring into her form.

Kena paused as she stared back at him, a blank expression at first, then it hit her. "Ohh!" She smiled. While they were training, everything else had been shoved to the very far back of her mind. 'Well, except that Kitsune.' Kena froze when she heard herself think that. 'Shut up.' She told her mind. "And?" She then asked.

"Well?" Kurama asked, sitting down next to her. Fairly close.

"Well....What?" Kena asked, remembering last night, knowing that had gotten on his last nerve.

He glared at her and Kena laughed. "Okay. I'll finish the story. Sheesh. You just had to ask."

..::Flash Back, Kena's POV::..

"I learn from past mistakes." She then snapped at me. "Anyways--" I cut her off.

"Do you always talk like that?" I then asked.

She quirked an eyebrow. "Like what?" She asked.

I blinked at her. "Well, do you always cuss?" I then asked. I bit my bottom lip. I didn't think mom would like it so much if I started cussing. I was still really young for that.

"Well, not all the time. But, they're just words." She snapped the rubber band.

'That's really getting to me.' I thought, staring at her snap the rubber band again and again. "Could you please stop that?" I then asked, glaring slightly.

"No." She bluntly stated.

This girl was strange. But, for some reason, there was something about her. I coaxed my head to the side gently. 'Have I seen her before? Does she look like someone I know? No, I would have remembered her. And I don't know anyone with wavy pink and blue hair. Hmm...' I thought.

"Watch out!" She screamed, but before she was finished, I quickly twisted around, feeling something thrown towards me. I already had my hand extended, and it was already very warm to the touch because I was defending myself after all. I heard something hiss and felt water as a cold snowball came intact with my hot hand. The water ran down my arm and wetted my palm. I looked around to see who threw it, also to see if anyone saw.

My eyes landed on the boys again. Particularly the blue and green headed one. His arm was extended, as though he had just thrown something, like a snowball, for instance. Also, his dark blue eyes were wide as he stared in my direction.

'Oh...Oh no...' I thought as I saw him. He just stood there, eyes wide, mouth gaping. And, I just stared right back, until, "Whoa!" I turned around only to see the girl. She was staring at me. "I don't know what you just did, but that was cool! Do it again!" She yelled, not playing with her rubber band anymore.

'Oh no...' I thought again. 'Not only one witness, but two. Great. Koenma isn't going to like this. No, not at all.' "Do what?" I asked her, acting as though I didn't know what she was talking about.

"What ever you just did! Do it again! It made RoRo run for his money! Ha!" She said happily.

I stared at her, "RoRo?" I repeated dully.

"Yeah. He's that bitch. Also my brother. My twin." She said calmly, but her eyes seemed to hold a darkness as she talked about him.

"Oh...Okay." I said, once again ignoring her choice of vocabulary. "Anyway, what was your name?" I asked her quickly, trying to distract her, wanting her to forget the incident completely.

"My name is Kanna. Kanna Yoshimoro." She told me, standing up from her spot on the ground.

"Oh. Kanna. Hi. My name is Kena Kaligrasis. Very nice to meet you!" I extended my hand.

She stared at it for a second, just staring, then after debating a bit to herself, she accepted it and smiled.

"Kanna, aren't you cold?" I then asked, looking at her very thin jacket, yet again.

She looked at me blankly, as though trying to process my words. Then she numbly said, "It's not cold."

Then, I stared. 'N-Not...Cold?! Is she INSANE?!'

..::End of Flashback::..

Kena paused and took another drink of her cool water.

"Is that it?" Kurama then asked her.

Kena smiled. "Yes. Well, there's more to the entire story, but, that was just how we met. Anyhow, my mom said that she saw her in town the other day, and Kanna was looking for me. We're been out of touch for years now. Six years, actually, going on seven." Kena corrected as she looked up into the leaves of the tree. “I mean, we used to always talk whenever we possibly could, but with my Spirit Detecting and all, we just...completely drew apart. I wouldn’t be lying at all when I say she was–and hopefully still is–my best friend.”

Kurama watched. She seemed to be leaving something out. Something very important out. "Is that all?" He asked. He hated to ask that after she was having a moment and all, but he just had to ask.

Kena looked back at him, "I told you, yes Kurama. If I knew you would get this sucked up into my stories then I wouldn't have told you anything in the first place." Kena put her chin on her knees, pulling her legs closer to herself.

"Kena...I believe you're leaving something very important out." Kurama told her.

Kena's eyes quickly darted up to his. "What makes you think that?" She then asked. His eyes were serious, again, and they still bored into her. She was uncertain on what to say, and her eyes got lost into his green ones. She seemed almost trapped as she stared and it didn't help that the sun was reflecting at just the right angle of his eyes, making them shine and gleam. And she felt lost and trapped and even nervous. So she quickly looked away and just talked, "I can't tell you about all the four years I was there. It would take too long. So yes, of course I'm leaving something out. I would have to--" Kurama cut her off.

"Like I said, something important." Kurama paused and locked eyes with her. But he soon learned trying to read though her eyes wasn't as easy as he had hoped. It was Yoko who could tell she was leaving something out. He had detected it and quickly told Kurama as soon as Kena was finished with her story.

Kena nibbled on her bottom lip and looked away. She tried to lie, she tried to lead him away, but he knew that there was something there. She blushed and made sure he couldn't tell she was. Not only had he caught her in another one of those stares, but also, she was admitting to herself that she didn't want to look away either. 'Stop thinking like that. Not only are you sharing a room with this guy but also it's only your SECOND DAY HERE.' Her mind snapped back to her, jolting her back into reality.

'That's right. I do need to stop thinking like that. I warned myself about it earlier, only it was about the Kitsune...' Kena finally looked back when she knew the blush was gone.

"Kurama." Those green eyes of his quickly scrambled back up to meet hers and she paused for a while, once again getting caught in his glance. "What it was... You can't tell anyone. And I'm entrusting you with this!" Kena told him. "Promise not to tell! Please!"

Kurama stared at her, blinked then nodded. "Okay, Kena. I promise not to repeat this."

Kena looked around and quickly scrambled over to Kurama, crawling on hands and knees. During the story telling, Kena must have scooted away and not known it. Once her knees were touching Kurama's she stopped and sat down. She looked around again then leaned a little forward. "Well, I never told anyone this, and I made sure to keep it a secret. I didn't want Kanna to be dragged into anything. She was one of my very first friends and I didn't want her to go though the same hell I did." She whispered to him.

Kurama nodded gently, urging her to continue.

Kena gulped a little, then looked around, almost frantic. She bit her bottom lip hard, and there was silence. "Kanna....Well....She...." There was silence again.

"Well?" Kurama asked.

"She should have became a Spirit Detective!"
