Ow.

He winced in pain as he instinctively tried to move his hands, but suddenly realizing that tight bonds were around his wrists. They were sharp and instantly dug into his skin. He realized the same bonds were around his ankles, and one around his waist as well. He never knew being awake would hurt him so much and almost wished he could faint again. He body shook slightly from pain, only making the bonds hurt more. Every bone in his body hurt, and he knew he had various wounds spread over his body; some had been tended to in an attempt to keep him alive, only to be torn open again by newer wounds. He tried to open his eyes, but if he did he couldn't tell. His body hurt too much to tell, and if he had indeed opened his eyes, they seemed to show just as much darkness as closed. The only thing he could smell was dirt, which he guessed he was in a cave, and his own blood. He flicked his ears forward; listening carefully for any sounds at all, even the slightest, but found nothing.

Okay, at least no ones here. I might as well try to get myself out of this.

He sighed, but as he tried to think of a way out, he couldn't help but remember his comrades: Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Hiei. He wondered where they had been taken, if anywhere at all, and what had happened to them. Was Hiei all right? Quick hard footsteps headed towards him suddenly snapped him out of his wonder thought.

"Ah, is my helpless prisoner finally awake?" the voice was deep and angry. He knew he recognized it from somewhere, but he couldn't quite place it.

"Hmm, not speaking again eh?" a hand move silver hair out of his face, grabbed his chin and held his head up a bit. Kurama grunted in disgust at the move. He felt sharp nails of the hand's fingers on his face.

"I don't see why you keep fighting. Stupid animal, do you like the pain given to you each day?" The other hand suddenly punched him hard, leaving three parallel cuts across his cheek. Kurama couldn't help but let his head swing from the shock. He tasted fresh blood in his mouth.

"You know, I used to not enjoy hitting a defenseless opponent.' On each of the stressed words, a painful blow struck Kurama; most aimed at his chest. He felt like he couldn't breathe, his chest burned.

"But now?" he heard the person relax and the anger become more controlled. "Now, I don't mind. I find it quite fun. Sure, you don't get as much of a fight, but you do get to see a unique pain" he laughed, then punched Kurama hard in the stomach. He bent forward a bit as the air was blown from his lungs, only to be hit in the forehead.

That's it… I'm going to faint again.

Right before the darkness set in, he thought of his friends again as the youkai spoke. "Your friends will never find you here.' He laughed.

Rakuto's Return

Chapter One: A Captured Soul

Don't know who to trust,

No surprise

[Everyone feels so far away from me]

Heavy thoughts sift through dust,

And the lies…

-Linkin Park [From The Inside]

Two young men walked fast through the brightly lit hospital hallway, one shorter than the other. The shorter had an angry look posted on his face, as he ran his hand through his short black hair again, slicking the already slicked hair back more. Only a few lone strands stuck forward from the rest, refusing to be joined with the others. But the style didn't look half-bad on him- with his worn jeans and loose shirt.

Yusuke turned to the other to speak, but only closed his mouth as he decided he wouldn't say anything after all.

The other was considerably taller than Yusuke, with his short, extremely curly orange trimmed hair. He had a long coat on and was sweating lightly. A pair of loose pants and a shirt were barely visible under the tied coat. Kuwabara couldn't help but feel sick. He hated the smell of hospitals and they way it felt- like a constantly lost place. They turned left on a corner, and Kuwabara began watching the door numbers on the left side. 324. 326. 328 and they both stopped. There was a brief pause before Yusuke opened the handle and walked in, Kuwabara behind him.

A young man was sitting in a chair next to the bed, asleep; his head tucked tightly into his crossed arms. He looked strangely peaceful with his head tucked so tight, as if he was hiding himself from the truth lying in front of him. Kuwabara found it even more strange, that the one to be here at the bed side, was Hiei. His jet-black hair furiously stuck up everywhere, as it waved slightly in the cool breeze from the open window.

Hiei's hair wasn't the only thing to be moved by the wind, as a few long strands of crimson hair on the bed moved in the breeze as well. Blown only a few inches to a new position.

Both boys looked down at the fiery unconscious bishounen. His eyes were closed, hiding alluring green eyes beneath them. His face seemed unusually pale. He had been in a coma for the past few days, and still continued to be as well.

Hiei, feeling watched in his dream, suddenly snapped awake. Upon seeing Yusuke and Kuwabara, he thought of instantly leaving, but was stopped short by a quick question.

"Anything?" Yusuke asked. He knew the answer was no, but asked anyway.

Hiei shook his head. "No." he, too, looked at the dead looking Kurama.

"Man, and it doesn't help that the darn doctors just think he's sick from something normal for humans." Kuwabara flapped.

" I know that!" Hiei seemed to be a little angry, as he turned his anger in Kuwabara.

Yusuke cleared his throat to stop them. "Well, what we have to-" he stopped short, hearing a footstep and the door handle move. Hiei suddenly disappeared out the window and the tree outside shuffled.

Kurama's mother, Shiori, and his younger brother, who everyone simply called Shu-chan came in.

Shiori startled a bit. "Oh, its just you. Hello, Yusuke. Kuwabara."

Yusuke nodded. `Hey.'

`Hello, Ms. Minamino.' Kuwabara joined in.

"Yo." Shu-chan said, willing some enthusiasm into his voice.

She looked over Yusuke and Kuwabara at her oldest son in the bed. "I'm sure he appreciates you two comi-.." tears began to well up in her eyes, and stopping in mid sentence was all she could do to keep from full blown crying. She turned away to control the tears, as Shu-chan moved closer to his brother, seemingly showing respect to the comatose sibling.

He suddenly breathed in quickly and backed up a bit, confused. " What the-?!?" he was staring dead at the bed.

Shiori looked instantly over Yusuke and Kuwabara, as they both turned around themselves, to see what was wrong, and as soon as she caught sight of the bed, surprised darkness overwhelmed her and she fainted.

`Hey, Ms. Minamino. Wake up. Come on, wake up."

Shiori awoke to see Yusuke and Kuwabara leaning over her. Shu-chan was sitting at her side, between her and the bed; one hand holding her hand, the other on her shoulder. "Mother, are you okay?"

Shiori groaned a bit and tried to speak. " Wha.. What was..?' she trailed off, not knowing exactly which of her questions to ask first.

Yusuke began to help her up, as she leaned on him. " Okay. Calm down. We know about it. -Got some explaining to do."

Once up on her own, she looked again at Kurama, only to end up leaning back onto Yusuke in shock, realizing it wasn't a dream.

The being now in the bed wasn't her loving son at all, but something quite different. He had long silver hair, not the fiery red from before. Sharp fox-ears were on his head, and he was more built in the body and taller, as his feet were barely on the end of the bed.

She looked away in disbelief.

"Uh, Hiei?" Yusuke called while giving support to the weak Shiori.

The tree outside rustled a bit and Hiei suddenly appeared in the room between Yusuke and Kurama's bed. He immediately knew what had happened.

Yusuke helped Shiori into the chair, which she quickly sat in. Yusuke rubbed the back of his head. " Oh brother, lets see.."

Shiori simply looked at him in confusion. Shu-chan sat in the chair next to her.

"Where to start… How to start…" he stopped rubbing his hair. "Okay, I got it. Well, you've studied mythology right?"

Shiori slowly nodded.

" Okay, this is going to sound really weird, but it's the absolute truth, okay? Well, that Youko… is.. He's actually.. grr.. That IS your son."

Shiori continued to watch Yusuke. She didn't dare look away. Shu-chan constantly looked around the room at the different people.

" `Shuichi' is actually a Youko named Kurama." Yusuke repeated. "When he was in the Makai, he was shot and killed, so he escaped here to be reincarnated. Where he was then reborn your son, and named Shuichi." Yusuke sagged. "Now I gotta sit…" he desperately hoped she would understand. He really didn't want to get too deep into it right now.

" So…" Shiori started "so that's why I heard you call him Kurama so many times?"

"Yea… exactly" Kuwabara answered this time for Yusuke. It looked like the situation was getting to Yusuke a bit. Kuwabara was only giving Yusuke a rest.

" I always wondered why… but… but that's his real form?" Shiori asked.

"Well, kinda, but kinda not." Yusuke answered. "While his body is human, his soul is YÅko. He only, um,.."

"Reverts." Hiei entered. Shiori looked at him.

"Yea. He only reverts to his Youko form when, um…" Yusuke thought.

"In near death, life threatening situations." Hiei finished Yusuke's sentence, as Shiori continued to look at him.

"Wait. I saw you many times before, but I never caught your name." Shiori said, questionably.

"Hn." Hiei turned away, and was now facing the silver Youko. No one noticed him place his hand on Kurama's.

"Hey! You watch it, Hiei!" Kuwabara screamed at Hiei, then turning to Shiori "that runts name is Hiei. Sorry about that."

"The longer we wait and the more nothing is done to help him, the worse Kurama's sickness will get." Hiei spoke out loud.

"Yooooo. Hellooo. Take a look around, shorty. We are only in a hospital, you know." Kuwabara replied.

"YOU IDIOT!!! This place can do nothing for him!! Its not his damn body that the sickness is attacking. It's his darn mind, you mindless drone!" Hiei practically attacked Kuwabara.

Kuwabara began to respond, only to be interrupted by Shiori pleading. "Please. Can you- please help him. Even if he is a- if this place can do nothing for him, then- you all seem to know so much about this, just- please."

Yusuke forced a weak smile. What to do now? " Of course. Don't worry. We wont let Kurama-you know. Buddies don't let their friends die, but we can't just leave him here." Yusuke thought, speaking his mind as he did so. "The doctors will for sure notice a Youko has replaced their patient… and the person responsible may be just waiting to get us as soon as we leave." Yusuke sighs deeply. All eyes are on him. "Okay, I got it, now. Hiei. Kuwabara. You guys go to the Makai and try to find this yaro. I'll stay here in case he does decide to attack and take care of Kurama, okay?"

Hiei and Kuwabara instantly looked at each other in anger.

Kuwabara pointed to Hiei. " Oh, no WAY am I going with him. He'll-"

Hiei glared back at Kuwabara. "And just how do you think this lump will be able to help?"

Kuwabara turns towards Hiei. ` Hey! Just what the heck is that s-"

Yusuke finally broke. "Shut-UP, damn it! We don't have time for this; you guys can fight all you want when Kurama's better! Just get moving, NOW!"

Kuwabara and Hiei stared at him in surprise. Hiei smiled, admiring Yusuke's sudden bluntness. "Very well." He disappeared out the window.

"Hey! Damn it, wait for me!" Kuwabara yelled at Hiei as he exited the room; the door slamming shut behind him. Yusuke, Shiori, and Shu-chan stood alone in the room with the sleeping youko.

"Can they really save him? Shui- I mean-" Shiori asked Yusuke, as he watched Kuwabara trying to catch up to Hiei outside.

Yusuke sighed.

"To tell the truth; I really don't know, but I sure damn hope so."

[Afterthoughts: Hello! You can call me Kurama! (Even though I go by kurama333 just knock of the 333. it makes it a lot easier and sounds better too!) Wow. Chapter one is finished. I tried to explain what's going on, but leave some imagination. I know I don't like to read something that leaves no slack! Anyway, I think I introduced most of the big people, except for the girls and Koenma. And I enjoy the song themes. This is pretty fun. Oh, but I feel so horrible for putting Kurama through all this shit!! But it makes for such a good story! Believe me: I love Kurama and Hiei dearly. Kurama's my favorite character and Hiei is my second. And it kinda makes sense, or it will, after I finish the first part- all grudges will be explained! Oops! I've said too much already! I better go before I ruin the next chapters! Sayonara! @};- ]
