taichi sacrafices himself for the digital world (just before the dark masters) sora assumes the role of leader and leads them on to the salvation of the digital world, even though she is heart-broken over the loss.
a new foe, calling himself the digimon emperor invades the digital world, dispite the efforts of the outmatched digidestined, he succeeds. from the foothold of the digital world the emperor marches on earth, and in a bloody holocaust, claims dominion over all mankind, bringing the two worlds together in his tyranical grasp.
this new world is one where the digidestined are hunted, and the children born of the digital gifts find places in the army of the empire.
the only resistance comes in the form of a group of destined, lead by sora, known as the burning dawn.

now, the battle for this new world depends on the loyalties of the emperor's brother, Genesis, who is part of the very fabric of the digital earth, and a ghost from sora's past.
