up until the kiss-- a kiss is too personal in that context, too easy to get carried away and do things to regret. i guess i'm old and too jaded, but i have seen too many friends fall... ♠ hugs, lean on eachother, emotional support-- but don't make it personal. and in japan- most of the contact before the kiss would still be too intimate. ♣ it was a wonderful conversation but if they look at eachother like brother and sister like it seems like the relationship was developing a kiss would squick both of them out. -♦- moviewavs.com/php/sounds/?id=gog&media=MP3S&type=Movies&movie=B ack_To_The_Future&quote=mybrother.txt&file=mybrother.mp3 -♦- love ya! ginny ♥

I love it! This is just so beautifully-written. You captured both of them perfectly in character and acknowledged their canon loves and yet still managed to show how awesomely they fit together. Mir/Kag is a guilty pleasure of mine and you hit on exactly the reason why in this: they see things in each other that the others miss, being too caught up in their own problems. Miroku and Kagome have their own trials and tribulations and yet they take the time to be understanding of their companions and to try to lighten their burdens in whatever they can. Miroku with his groping and flirtations and Kagome with her nurturing and subjugating her own heart. I loved that you had Kagome begin the banter with her playful remark. It made her seem very real and true to her time. The idea you presented here--that they could take solace in each other while waiting for their loves is heartbreakingly poignant. I will confess, the situation as you presented it makes me wish for a certain silver-haired hanyou to come back early one time and discover them "waiting" together. Wake-up call! The danger of friends being that close is always that it could turn into something stronger than what they are waiting for. I would feel sorry for Sango, in that case, which is why I can't write Mir/Kag myself. It's also why this is the perfect size fic for this situation. It leaves everything intact, but with that hint of "what if?" in the air. This is a definite fave!

This was excellent! I really love the deeper portrayal of M and K here, the insight and maturity you've given them. Really, really good. This could do as a series of one shots, I think.

I don't think I can read this *enough* times. Each time, something else stands out to me, makes me squee a little bit harder that such a lovely piece was written as a gift for me. I have the most awesome friends!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that you placed this in the context of canon as you did - that you kept the characters in character, their relationships intact, and yet still managed to bring them together like this. You did Miroku a beautiful turn here; I love his reactions to Kagome through it all - the flirting, the banter, the all-too-solemn burning questions. He's more thoughtful than he's given credit for, but you managed to do him great justice in this piece. And Kagome is as forward as usual, though I did have a little chuckle at her willingness to be so...forward? LOL ~ a nice reminder that she's very much a product of the modern era, that's for sure!! What makes this couple work is the forbidden/tragic aspect of it. I'm sure I've shown you that piece of art by queenofthecute, showing these two in a solemn embrace...and if not, I'll have to, because that's what this story brought to mind. You sense that they'd not have a happy ending, but that they could find some measure of solace in each other, as they waited for their "true loves" to come around. Your last line really summed it up well, I think - they are lovers, not fighters, and they have to learn to cultivate patience right alongside Inuyasha and Sango, even if in a different way. Don't even begin to think you failed me here because I love it. I want to hug it and luff it and name it George, LOL :) You managed to strike just the right balance of playfulness, comedy, drama, and even a touch of angst (and you know how much I love my angst!). The banter was cute, the massage unexpected, and the kiss kinda punched my gut a little, in that best way possible. So again - thank you, thank you, thank you!! I'd say your first attempts at an "alt pairing" were very much a success =)
