Chapter 7: Trouble Arising: Part 1

And for Lord Syaoran, she is Lady Sakura.

Syaoran sat in a large office room, with many of his men sitting around a table, with him at the peak. He had a rather serious and harsh look on his face; however, he wasn't angry at all, unlike how his face prescribed. He had his arms crossed, leaning quite comfortably in his chair, listening to the arguments spreading around them.

“Sire!” his officer-in-charge cried, “The Morimoto clan has charged war against us, the fact that your forefathers claimed their throne.”

Syaoran groaned. The Morimoto clan was in power of the Ookami realm back two hundred years ago, however, Syaoran's ancestor defeated that current king and had gained the title, never thus losing what he had fought for.

“And they want their throne back?” Syaoran rolled his eyes. “This fight happens every generation.”

“Yes but- it seems quite uhm… plausible this time around, sire.” The general spoke. Syaoran raised a brow, quite curious.

“Explain, Arashi.”

Arashi, the man in charge, nodded as he stood up. “They have set our Eastern forest on fire, making many of our wolves to run. The fire was put out, yes, however, many of the dens have burnt to the ground and there is nothing we can do about that. The Wolves shifted to the West, to your inhabited territory, but we fear that there may not be enough room, for Mountain wolves inhabit your compass area and White Wolves inhabit the East.”

Syaoran frowned. That did pose as a problem. The different breeds of Wolves that ran in his realm hardly got along, unless it was a call for war. Then they had an unspoken truce until the war finished.

“They're still migrating.” Arashi said quickly, “We suspect them to arrive there in one week's time. We can't stop them. They need a place to stay and the dens up here are over-inflated and the southern dens are too hot for the White wolves.”

Syaoran rubbed his face. “Shit,” he cursed.

All the men stared at him as he sat back up.

“We can't settle this in a day, can we?” He raised a brow and Arashi shook his head.

“At least two weeks sire.” Arashi murmured and Syaoran groaned, as he turned to one of the foot maids in the room.

“You,” he said pointing at her. She squeaked as she stood up and scurried over to him.

“Y-yes, mi'lord?” She chirped as Syaoran glanced out the window.

“Go find my Lady and ask her if she would like to stay for two weeks. Answer me quickly.”

Syaoran wouldn't make authoritative decisions without her input. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable, that was for sure.

Arashi snarled. “Why ask your Lady, mi'lord? She has no say in our strategies.”

Syaoran shot him a glare. “Unlike most men, I respect my woman.”

That was enough said for the men to know that they can't ever say anything against Sakura in the presence of their lord.

--

Sakura was admiring some paintings in one of the corridors in the grand castle. She had explored the gardens with Syaoran and they had joked some, actually enjoying his company, she felt rather- sad when he was called to the meeting room. He had grinned at her and said that he would continue exploring the castle with her as soon as the meeting finished.

So she had decided to enjoy the abstract paintings that hung in his castle.

He has style…she observed. His clothing sense, his sense of home décor- it bypassed anything she had ever seen. She was about to turn and walk into another corridor when she saw a maid scurry her way.

She raised a brow. “Yes?”

The maid panted as she wheezed to speak. Sakura smiled softly as she watched her. “Catch your breath,” she said softly as the maid smiled at her before, calmly, trying to catch her breath.

“The- the lord wishes to ask you if you would mind remaining in this manor for two more weeks.” The maid squeaked as Sakura smiled.

So he wouldn't decide whatever he needed to without my consent. How sweet! She was warmed by his thoughtfulness. Hey, she had nothing to do at his castle as opposed to this castle so to her, it didn't matter.

“It's fine.” She said to the maid, who smiled, nodded, and turned around to go tell the lord. But Sakura stopped her.

“I will tell him.” She said. Sakura wanted to do something and going on a mission to tell Syaoran her decision was better than staring at the paintings. The maid nodded as she started leading Sakura in the direction of where the meeting was being held.

After, what seemed like an eternity (big castle), Sakura arrived at the meeting room and the maid knocked on the door, getting a response on the other side, telling her that she could go in.

The maid slowly creaked the door open and all the heads of the men turned as they saw Sakura somehow hiding behind the maid. Syaoran raised a brow as he got up of his chair and headed over to Sakura, the maid taking her hint and moving.

“Sakura,” Syaoran said softly as he stood in front of her, blocking the view of the other men. She smiled up at him, slightly tilting her head.

“You had better find some sort of amusement if you are to keep me entertained for two entire weeks, Syaoran.”

Syaoran cracked a huge grin as he turned around and looked at his men. “You are dismissed, we shall continue this meeting later on within the weeks I am here with my lady.”

The other men laughed as their Lord and his Lady left the meeting room. Arashi was amused.

“What a lady she is.” He laughed as the other men agreed, saying that their Lord had struck gold.

Arashi's gaze darkened. Gold he has…

--

“Did I stop something important?” Sakura asked softly as Syaoran laughed.

“No, mi'lady,” he teased, “we were basically done.”

Sakura frowned. “You're lying!” She accused playfully and Syaoran was glad that she had loosened up. Back a few days ago she would've kept quiet and sat in her room, hardly eating anything, trying to ignore him…

But she loosened up and he was thankful because of that. Both of their lives would be easier with her easygoing. If she had asked, he would let her visit her family. If she hadn't want to marry him, he would let her go back to her own world, bringing his world to obscure destruction because he couldn't get himself a lady to run the land with, and produce heirs with.

“I don't lie!” Syaoran gasped, feigning hurt, then his eyes twinkled mischievously, “I only bend the truth.”

Sakura rolled her eyes, “Stop bending the truth, Lord.”

“Only if you believe me, mi'lady.”

Sakura squealed as Syaoran's hands came in contact with her torso, peels of laughter spilling out of her as Syaoran started insanely tickling her. He didn't know she was tickling, it was just an on instinct thing he had, and now he was personally glad he had found out she was tickling.

It could be used to his severe advantage. Sakura hitched up her kimono and started running with Syaoran close on her tail.

“Get back here, mi'lady!” He teased out as he, on purpose, ran slowly behind her, allowing her to take the lead.

“Make me, my lord!” She teased back as she exited into the courtyard, a strange exhilaration streaming through her. It wasn't adrenaline, Sakura had felt adrenaline before- this was something different. Completely different, and frankly, Sakura wasn't complaining. It felt great.

Sakura didn't notice the small Koi pond in front of her and shrieked as she tripped over the rock. She was about to fall face first into the pond when she felt an arm grasp her around her waist and pull her into familiar grounds.

Syaoran's body…

She gulped as she slowly pulled back, her hair in disarray, her face flushed- nothing about her seemed Lady-like at that moment, however, she didn't care, and it was quite obvious Syaoran didn't either. He smiled tenderly down at her.

“You okay, mi'lady?”

Sakura smiled softly and nodded. “Uhm- yes… I'm fine. Thanks.”

He was hesitant to let go, but he did, and felt his body ach for her, cool air rushing through him, his body wanting to hold her. Syaoran forcefully pushed those feelings aside as he held his hand out and Sakura instantly took it.

“Where to now, Syaoran?” She tilted her head as she looked up at him.

“Anywhere you wish, mi'lady.”

Sakura giggled, liking how he said mi'lady. She hummed softly as she looked around, using her free hand to pat her hair down. Her eyes caught sight of a large oak tree with a stone tablet in front of it, and instantly her interest was perked.

“Syaoran,” She started, “what's that?”

Syaoran looked over to the large oak tree and laughed. “That? It's the Wish Bringer. Yeah, weird names, don't ask. Apparently, according to some freak legend, it grants one wish to one person every century. It's been a hundred years since the last wish and another wish could be granted, apparently. But the tree only grants one wish to the purest person in all of the land.”

Sakura kept on staring at the tree, quite entranced. Syaoran brought his lips close to her ear and whispered, “What're you thinking of…mi'lady?”

Sakura grinned over at him. “How you smell like that tree.” She teased as she wiggled out of his grip, an awestruck Syaoran staring at her.

“Do you propose I smell like- a tree?”

Sakura shook her head. “No silly,” Her eyes twinkled, “you smell like oak. How inconvenient. The man who is supposedly my suitor is as dumb as a post. God, do help me.” And she squealed, running away from a very annoyed looking Syaoran. He did have to admit, she was quite a pixie, a prankster, a child at heart. When she loosened up, she lived life as if it was her last day.

Not many women would tease their captor. However, Sakura had readily accepted to live with him, dine with him, explore with him- and not many women was such a devil either. Underneath that underlying façade, she was a child, immature, however, when need be, she knew when to act her age, and her position as Lady of the land.

Syaoran ran after her as she entered the castle, heading straight to the dining room.

This, Syaoran thought, I possibly can do for the rest of my life…

A stout man with blaring blue eyes sat in his room, writing a letter…

Lord Jin Tai Morimoto,

I have persuaded the Lord Syaoran to remain at the Northern castle for two more weeks with his Lady. You may, if you please, send in the troops anytime within that bracket.

General of Armes

Arashi Ootori.
