Chapter 11: Calling a War
--
“If you're still here when I come back…”
--
Syaoran left the carriage at his castle and took one of his horses back to the Northern Ookami castle. His face was set, a dangerous look crossing his eyes as a raging war breathed within him. His time with his lady was cut short because of Jin Tai.
And the traitor within the castle. Syaoran growled as he bounced on his horse, speeding towards the northern castle. A certain anger raged through his body as he thought of the endless possibilities where Sakura could've gotten hurt. Yeah, within the past few weeks he had grown greatly attached to the woman and he winced, because of the fact he was lying to her.
Syaoran didn't just bring her because she had magic.
He brought her because she had Clow magic…
Pushing that aside, Syaoran continued trying to make his horse go faster. The quicker he ended the battle, the faster he can get back to Sakura.
That was all that mattered.
--
“WHERE IS HE?” One of the higher ranking warriors roared at Ryu who put up an invisible shield around the village; only the village. Ryu's magic was depleting rather rapidly and he didn't have enough magic within him to shield the entire castle and the village. In his eyes, the village should be safe since the King and his Princess weren't in the castle.
“HE HAD BUSINESS TO TAKE CARE OF! DAMMIT KEEP YOUR HEAD OUT OF SYAORAN'S BUSINESS AND TRY TO MAKE THEM BASTARDS GO AWAY!”
Ryu was ticked off now. The guards were addressing him as if he were a mere commoner. Ryu was a higher ranking than any of them. He was the King's cousin, high Wizard and literally Syaoran's right hand man.
Seeing another bomb being thrown at the castle, Ryu was universally ticked off as he rushed to the nearest balcony. Holding his hands out, he summoned all of the strength he had and shouted, “TSUNAMI!!”
A tidal wave shot from the palms of his hand and washed away the attackers and the bombs for only a short while. They would regroup and they would return, Ryu knew it, the guards knew it… everyone knew it. Taking the short moment of time Ryu whirled around and stalked to the Army chambers, ready to unleash his fury.
Ryu found Arashi sitting on a chair, staring at a map looking like he was studying it. Normally Ryu would knock on the door and address Arashi with a great load of respect since he was the man in charge of the King's Northern army but in this case, Ryu's suspicious were just like Syaoran's.
That man is probably the traitor, Ryu thought as he shoved the chair aside and lifted Arashi up by the collar. “WHY THE HELL AREN'T YOU SENDING OUR MEN OUT? WHY?!” Ryu roared in Arashi's face who remained stony, expressionless. The pent up anger in Ryu finally broke through as Ryu's fist flew and struck Arashi square in the jaw.
“You know that the army doesn't listen to ANYBODY but you and Syaoran. Without him here you're the only bitch in command and you aren't even sending a fucking attack!! WHY THE HELL NOT?”
“I don't want my men to die.” Arashi's smart ass response and that made Ryu mad even more.
”DIE? IS THAT YOUR BLOODY EXCUSE?! DIE?! THEY'RE DYING INSIDE THE DAMN CASTLE HIDING LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN! AT LEAST MAKE THEM MEN OF HONOUR AND LET THEM DIE PROTECTING THEIR KING!”
Arashi said nothing as Ryu released his hold on Arashi's collar. Creating a fire ball to float in the palm of his hand, Ryu's gaze darkened.
“Send the men out now or else I will kill you.”
That struck fear in Arashi as he raced out of the room, Ryu behind him.
“TRAN! DAICHI! KANG! Get the cannons ready!” Arashi roared as three of the higher ranked guards nodded, rushing to their armory room. Arashi glanced at a few of the men holding bows and arrows, waiting for command.
“Arrow anybody who comes close to the castle.” Arashi said, commanding them, “From the opposing side.”
The men nodded as they belted their quivers and raced to the roof of the castle. Ryu was faintly amused.
“So I see you fear death more so than being a traitor. Interesting.” Snarling slightly, Ryu spun on his heel and started to walk away. Abruptly stopping, Ryu turned around and sent a dangerous glare to Arashi.
“Keep up the work or I will strip you of your position when Syaoran returns.”
Arashi faintly sweat dropped. Yeah, they're related… Glancing outside of the window, fear was rose in his stomach. I hope Lord Jin Tai can understand…
--
Sakura sat in her room, as worry and fear shocked through her body. Her companions, Zhia the wolf and Wei Syaoran's personal attendant were with her in her room. Zhia sat on Sakura's lap and Wei remained standing by the door.
“What's going on?” Sakura whispered as she stroked Zhia's fur. The wolf cub purred slightly as she nestled on Sakura's lap, loving the new Lady of the Ookami Realm. “Why did Syaoran want me to leave? If he just returned my magic than I could've helped…”
“He's scared,” Zhia grinned wolfishly, showing her fangs. Sakura was shocked hearing that.
“Scared?”
Wei nodded. “Yes Princess,” he continued what the young wolf club was saying, “the Lord is scared you might leave if he returned your magic to you. It doesn't take much for a strong magician to tear a portal between the dimensions and one of your caliber and expertise it'll be as simple as breathing.”
Sakura's interest had been struck immediately. “But couldn't he always bring me back?”
Zhia shook his head. “No, Lady,” the wolf said, “People portray the Lord to be coldhearted and unfeeling but he does care. He brought you here the first time because you had no objection and you didn't know him. If you leave then he'll know you either didn't like him or our world and therefore he wouldn't have the heart to bring you back.”
“But what's the problem with that?” Sakura asked. If Syaoran didn't tell her last week then she'll work it out of Wei and Zhia.
“Didn't the Lord tell you?” Wei was astonished and Sakura looked at him, her eyes confused.
“Tell me what?”
“If you don't marry him then the Ookami Realm is immediately passed down to the next heir in line and Lord Syaoran is executed.”
--
Syaoran's horse galloped into the Northern lands and he was glad that his cousin and put up a barrier at least around the villagers. The castle didn't have a hundred people inhibited it, the village did.
Jumping off his horse midway through the village, Syaoran started running full speed towards the castle. Glancing around, Syaoran saw a few of his wolves collecting around him.
“What's happening so far?” He barked to the closest one. The wolf, a white snow creature with a pulsing scar over his right eye, glanced up at Syaoran.
“Lord Ryu has finally gotten Arashi to cal an attack.”
Syaoran nodded knowing that that was enough information for him. Jumping over a fallen rock, Syaoran rushed into the open gate and found his men speeding around the castle with arrows and crossbows. Scowled, Syaoran immediately located Ryu's aura on the third floor and raced up the stairs, immediately finding his cousin bullying Ryu.
“WHY DID YOU RETREAT?!” Ryu screamed. “WHO THE HELL GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO RETREAT!”
“What's going on here?!” Syaoran roared as Ryu turned around, a dangerous look crossing his face.
“This bitch called for a retreat just as Jin Tai's men started advancing.”
Knowing his cousin would never lie, Syaoran too looked down on Arashi.
“Why did you call a retreat?” Syaoran hissed, his voice a scathing whisper. Arashi gulped, visibly paling.
“I don't want the men to…die…” He squeaked as Syaoran punched him, the same spot Ryu punched him not too long ago.
“When they enlisted into the army,” Syaoran spoke slowly as if he were addressing a child, “they knew their lives were at risk. Arashi Ootori,” Syaoran said, his voice rising with each syllable, “You are stripped of your title as general of arms. I am sending you front line in the army to fend off my territory from Jin Tai.”
Ryu sneered. “May I, cousin?”
Syaoran nodded, knowing exactly what Ryu was going to do.
“Front line, buddy,” Ryu said, jabbing his finger in Arashi' chest, “no armor and no weapons. Take him away.”
Syaoran crossed his arms, smirking as a few of the guards pulled their ex-commander away. “That's what you get,” Syaoran called, “for putting the life of my Lady in danger. You think I wouldn't figure it out eh? NEXT time you try something like that, make sure you make it less obvious than not attacking when a war is happening.”
“You forget Syaoran,” Ryu sneered maliciously, “there won't be a next time.”
Nodding at his cousin, they both stood there, watching Arashi getting pulled away.
“That's taken care of,” Syaoran said turning to his cousin, “call all of the high ranking officers to be back up and send in the Armed Army,” The Armed Army was a combined forced of two hundred or more men ready to go into war at any time, “to go to the front lines. Leave Arashi as the first man out there.”
Ryu nodded as Syaoran looked around his castle. “Keep all the men away from falling statues and make them stand in an open enough area that they won't be crushed but hidden enough. Castle mid courtyard should be fine.”
Ryu nodded once more before opening his mouth to speak. “What about Lady Sakura?”
A soft look crossed the King's features. “She'll be fine. I placed enough men around my castle to keep her safe.”
“Why not just return her magic?” Ryu raised a brow and Syaoran frowned.
“I can't risk it Ryu…”

“Set the stand,” Eriol roared as Takashi pulled aside a few curtains revealing a podium of some sort.
“What is this?” Takashi raised a brow as he blew off some dust from the base. Eriol sighed as he opened a huge book of magical spells and set it on the stand on top of the stadium.
“It's where we're tearing the portal between the realms.” Eriol murmured as he flipped to the chapter that read Chronicles of the Ookami Realm: Legend of Li Syaoran.
“And what're you looking up?” Takashi raised a brow.
“Some information…”
“In the Wolf Chronicles?” Takashi asked, sitting on the base of the stadium. Eriol glanced at Takashi.
“Do you know who wrote the Wolf Chronicles?”
Takashi shook his head and Eriol turned his attention back at the book.
“Her late Lady Nadesiko,” Eriol murmured, “Sakura's mother…”
Takashi's eyes widened. “What the…”
“Didn't you ever hear?” Eriol asked looking back at his friend. “Lady Nadesiko and her best friend, Lady Yelan were the last two to be pulled into the Ookami realm. Lady Nadesiko made it out… but Lady Yelan never did…”
“What happened to her?” Takashi whispered.
“Lady Nadesiko said that the Ookami King of that generation had taken Lady Yelan to be his bride.”
“Why…” Takashi questioned and Eriol frowned.
“Because Lady Yelan possessed Clow Magic…”
