Chapter 12: History of the Ookami Realm
--

“Because Lady Yelan possessed Clow Magic…”

--

“Executed?” Sakura squeaked as her grip tightened on Zhia. Wei nodded somberly as Zhia wiggled out of Sakura's grasp and danced on the floor, bouncing back and forth between her hind and forelegs.

“Yes,” Zhia nodded, “executed.”

“But why?” Sakura questioned, her heart beat starting to quicken. She had spent merely a short amount of time with the Lord of the Wolves but she felt drawn to him. He was different from the typical males in her homeland of Thyrza and she appreciated him for everything he did.

For a man that kidnapped her, he held great respect and responsibility to make her feel comfortable. Though, he could merely have been doing that for the fact that he wanted to marry her, but still, it was nice nonetheless.

“Oh for various reasons,” Wei murmured, “one that he couldn't properly bring a Queen into the Ookami Realm and produce worthy heirs. Second, many would think of him as impotent and arid.”

“Impotent and arid?!” Sakura gasped aloud. “But why? He hadn't married before and tried to produce heirs!!”

“It's an old tradition in the Ookami Realm.” Zhia whispered softly, her sleek fur brushed back. “There are two Royalties in the Ookami Realm, the Li's and the Morimoto's. Both sets of families once ruled the Ookami Realm. The Morimotos ruled it a few hundred years back and the Li's to the current date. Should the current King not be able to bring a Queen and conceive with her within his given time limit than the throne is passed down to either a brother or if the King doesn't have a brother, than the next Royalty in line, which are the Morimoto's.”

Sakura tried to grasp the concept in her mind and her head reeled with complexities. So Syaoran would be executed if she left, which is why he had blocked her magic. Should she even utter the words of returning back to her own world than Syaoran would let her go without so much of an argument and face his own death?

Talk about manly.

“Couldn't Syaoran just find another bride?” Sakura asked and Wei shook his head sadly.

“He can't just do that.” Wei said and Sakura raised a brow in confusion.

“And why not?”

“His bride must possess Clow Magic.” Wei said, trying to keep the urgency out of his voice. He was merely instructed to tell Princess Sakura about the predicament Syaoran was in, not beg and plead for her to marry him. Wei had to do his job right or Xiao Lang would be pissed.

“Why Clow Magic?” Sakura's interest was piqued. Syaoran had mentioned something about Clow magic earlier but he hadn't gone into depth. It only ended with an argument between them and Syaoran never did explain it to her.

“It's a long story,” Zhia warned and Sakura smiled softly.

“What have we got to do?” Sakura replied in a soft tone. Wei nodded as he pushed himself off the door and sat down on the floor, beside Zhia.

“It all started off seven hundred years ago,” Wei started speaking, “where a Prince and Princess were deeply in love.”

Sakura stared into Wei's eyes, drinking in the words that Wei was saying.

“The man went by the name of Clow Reed and the woman was called Wolfe Ookami…”

--

“COVER!” Syaoran roared as the Guards and Army gripped onto something that kept them in balance. Shooting Ryu a knowing look, Syaoran hesitantly let go of a long pole and rushed towards an open window. The lines were being sent out and the men were already shooting arrows.

There were a few men on the roofs of the castle shooting a multitude of arrows but that wasn't stopping Jin Tai's men from advancing.

“What does the bitch want?” Syaoran hissed dangerously as his cousin stood beside him.

Giving his cousin a sarcastic look, Ryu decided to answer Syaoran's question. “Isn't it obvious? He wants his throne back.”

“That was a rhetorical question numbskull!” Syaoran attempted to insult his cousin but it faltered in his mouth when another cannon ball exploded the castle. Rocking the walls, Syaoran scowled as he summoned his force field to shield the castle. With Ryu's magic shielding the village, the most Syaoran could do is guard the castle with his magic.

“I think you should go back to your castle and stay with Sakura.” Ryu commented and Syaoran shook his head, racing towards the stairwell with Ryu on his trail.

“Why not?” Ryu questioned, his mind reeling with possibilities of why Syaoran didn't want to stay with the woman he was courting.

“Because I made her promise.” Syaoran merely whispered and that had caught Ryu's interest. Making it to the roof, Ryu and Syaoran scanned their surroundings and found a faint green shield circling their castle. Cannons kept on blasting at the castle but it collided with the green shield instead of the grey castle walls.

“Promise what?”

“If I'm back at my castle in one piece, she has to promise that she's the first person I see…”

--

Sakura gasped hearing the names of the two in love. Clow Reed and Wolfe Ookami; it was a connection to the Ookami realm and Sakura's inward questions were answered when Zhia opened her snout.

“Clow Reed, obviously from the name, honed Clow Magic and Wolfe Ookami had Wolf magic. The world shunned them because they were from opposing clans so they decided to create a world all for themselves. They decided to call it the Ookami realm and the only way the realm would prosper was if the Ookami ruler conceived with a Clow magician.”

“How was that possible,” Sakura inquired, “If Clow Reeds bloodline only runs through the Ookami realm?”

Wei answered that question. “Clow Reed had two bloodlines. He married a woman through his world but she died shortly after giving birth. The child grew up and married by the time Clow Reed met Wolfe Ookami. That child possessed Clow Magic and Clow and Wolfe's child possessed Wolf magic as a dominance.”

Frowning, many questions surged through Sakura's mind. “But that makes no sense. Neither my mother nor my father possesses Clow Magic. How can I?”

“There are many possibilities,” Zhia started, “that we don't know. Perhaps Master Xiao Lang's parents might now. You were supposed to meet them a little while back but the attack on Master's castle drew back his plans. Grandmaster Xiao Lang should understand.”

Sakura remembered how every first male born in the Li family was named Xiao Lang and didn't show any signs of confusion. Nodding, Sakura hugged herself, thinking silently. Glancing back at Wei and Zhia, her mouth opened to ask another question.

“So Syaoran has to marry me or face death?”

Wei nodded.

“Yes.”

--

“JIN TAI!” Syaoran roared seeing the man stand in front of his lines. Syaoran's voice carried and the man with the bellowing cape looked up, his beady black eyes piercing Syaoran. A slow and slimy smirk was cast upon his face as he raised a hand up to acknowledge Syaoran.

“MY MY!” Jin Tai roared, “IF IT ISN'T LORD OOKAMI! COME DOWN HERE AND FACE ME YOURSELF XIAO LANG!”

Feeling his anger rush through him, Syaoran turned around and tore down the stairs with his cousin close behind him.

“You can't go Syaoran!” Ryu demanded and Syaoran merely snorted.

“Says you!”

“What if you die?”

“I won't.”

“What if you do?” Ryu asked, his voice definite. Looking at his cousin with a dangerous expression, Syaoran said the single words that made Ryu realize just how much Syaoran cared about the woman…

“If I do, send Sakura back to her world and seal off the Ookami Realm. Understood?”

Gulping and not knowing what to do but nod, Ryu let his cousin mount a horse and race off to go to the front of his army lines.

Passing a large number of his men, Syaoran finally dismounted the mare and stood face to face with Jin Tai.

His rival.

His enemy.

His opponent to the throne of the Ookami Realm.

Jin Tai Morimoto.

Smiling wickedly at Syaoran, Jin Tai merely flicked back his shoulder length black hair and crossed his arms. Syaoran noted that Jin Tai wore black gauntlets and had several golden bands on his fingers, probably to note some sort of richness. Inwardly snorting at the sad attempt, Syaoran stood his ground.

“How are you doing this fine day, Xiao Lang?” Jin Tai asked. Syaoran rolled his eyes and placed a hand on his pendant, knowing he should transform it sometime soon into his Ookami sword.

“Quite peachy Jin Tai, and yourself?” Syaoran replied in the same tone Jin Tai had asked. Sneering rather ugly, Jin Tai showed off his yellow yet pointed teeth.

“Ditto. I don't see your lady around at all Xiao Lang. Tell me, is she on the home front?”

Syaoran's blood ran cold. “How do you know about her?”

“Arashi was a good spy. Hard to believe you found out merely today when he's been spying on you for ages. Too bad I had to kill him.” Snapping his fingers, Jin Tai ushered one of his men forward. He was holding Arashi's head. A head dislodged from the body.

Syaoran winced.

“He was an easy kill. Begging for mercy but oh, you know me, I can't help a good kill. That's a good attribute in a Wolf lord,” Jin Tai snarled, “the instinct to kill.”

“The instinct to kill should come if one feels threatened.” Syaoran hissed back. “Himself or his mate. Pack members also count. Apart from that, the instinct to kill should not feel necessary.”

Waving a hand in the air, Jin Tai snorted. “Is that what they teach you in Li school?”

“That is something I picked up from being the heir to the Ookami Realm.” Syaoran taunted. He knew the subject of the ruler of the Ookami realm was a touchy subject for Jin Tai but that didn't stop Syaoran from provoking him.

Provoking was what Syaoran did best.

“Shut up!” Jin Tai screamed causing Syaoran's smirk to widen.

“Why?” Syaoran raised a brow. “You do know I'm right.”

“You aren't!”

“Quite relentless of you,” Syaoran ushered to the bloody field, “to call upon a war merely for your own gain. You could've discussed it with me; you know, the subject of taking over the realm. I could've just given it to you with a few conditions.”

Jin Tai paused. “Such as?”

“Find a Queen before I did,” Syaoran shrugged, “that would've been one option. But, oops! The fact that the bride to the Ookami must only have Clow magic totally left my mind. And, unfortunately for you, my Lady is the only one old enough possessing Clow magic in her world.”

Jin Tai felt like he was slapped in his face. He was being teased. Being… taunted. The idea of being jeered at was not something Jin Tai liked very much. Withdrawing his sword, Jin Tai made a quick move to Syaoran who dodged expertly and released his sword.

“Making surprise attacks when your opponent isn't ready?” Syaoran raised a brow. “Is that what they teach you in Morimoto school?”

“Shut up!!” Jin Tai screamed as he charged at Syaoran. The armies from both ends remained motionless as they witnessed both their leaders start to face off in a battle.

“You know I'm right.”

“FIGHT ME!” Jin Tai shouted and Syaoran snickered.

“Gladly.”

“Lady Yelan had Clow Magic?” Takashi asked, his interest rising. That fact he did not know.

Eriol nodded. “Yes she did.” He replied, “One of the few might I add.”

“So what happened?” Takashi inquired and Eriol stopped his work to look at his friend.

“It was a long time ago, almost forty years ago, when Nadesiko and Yelan were in their late teens. A portal opened from the Ookami realm and attempted to pull in Lady Yelan. However Queen Nadesiko had caught Lady Yelan in time for her to be pulled into the Ookami Realm as well,” Eriol started his story and Takashi seemed much into it.

“They spent five years in the Realm before Queen Nadesiko made it out. When she did she had three books in her hands, each labeled a Chronicle.”

“The Chronicles of the Realm,” Takashi stated and Eriol nodded.

“Yes. The first Chronicle was named Legend of Li Syaoran. It had direct quotes and the history of the Rulers of the Ookami Realm. Lady Nadesiko traced it back to the first ruler of the Ookami Realm who just so happens to be Clow Reed himself.”

Takashi's eyes widened. The Chronicles were kept hidden from commoners as himself and only those containing magic could open the book. Eriol had read it and so did Touya. Sakura had glanced in the book but she never fully read the entire book from start to finish.

“What about the other chronicles?” Takashi raised a brow. Eriol merely shrugged.

“That's the mystery. Nobody can open the other two chronicles. Lady Nadesiko died shortly after Princess Sakura was born and just as the late Queen died, magically the first Chronicle had the title engraved on it. The Chronicles of the Ookami Realm: Legend of Li Syaoran. Nobody knew how it happened, but it just did. The other two chronicles remain unnamed.”

“Huh?” Takashi was confused.

“Meaning, something must happen in time for us to access the other chronicles. The first one was read just after the late Queen died. The second and third chronicles have no names but we think that they'll be named after a certain action in time.”

Takashi nodded, understanding what Eriol was saying. Late Queen Nadesiko wrote the three chronicles during her five years within the Ookami realm.

“Lady Yelan is still in the Ookami realm?” Takashi asked and Eriol nodded.

“Probably. She must've been made the bride because the Ookami realm has been passed down to the latest ruler.”

Takashi gulped. “And he wants Lady Sakura to be his bride?”

Eriol slowly nodded as Takashi took a look at the stand they were working on. “So we need Prince Touya in there as soon as possible, right?”

Eriol nodded once again and Takashi stood up.

“We better get working!”

Listening to his friend, Eriol too stood up, continuing to work on the portal.

A few more days and Touya can enter the Ookami Realm, Eriol thought, I just hope you're still in perfect condition and not married to the Lord of the Wolf Realm, Princess Sakura…
