Chapter 30: “ƒfƒ‚ƒ“‚Å‚·‚ ;©”
“Demon desuka?”
“It’s Demon?!?” The Dark Digimon Revealed…

“So you’re the Digimon that’s been causing all of the trouble!” Daisuke concluded, his right fist clenched.

“It’s like Angellina-san was saying,” Hikari pointed out. “It’s like he’s trying to plunge both worlds into darkness, just like with BelialVamdemon!”

The light coming from Eiji died down, as she remained beside Iori. The Dark Digimon snorted. “So what if I am. Darkness is all I know how to live in. It’s all that I am accustomed to, thanks you children.”

“But who are these Digimon? Why are they doing this?” Michael pondered. “We know what they’re doing, but it seems pointless to do it without a reason.”

The Dark Digimon felt he had kept his identity secret long enough and removed his hood, showing his beastly face. All of the children gasped at the sight…

“It’s Demon!” Ken identified. “He was well covered; his robe was very convincing.”

“Y-yeah,” Iori nodded. “His wings are even hidden.”

“Demon?” both Michael and Mimi questioned in unison.

Ken: You two weren’t around, but we sure were. This is Demon, an ultimate (mega) leveled Digimon who worked for Oikawa - even though he never seemed to listen to him - when he was possessed by Vamdemon’s spirit. As a last ditch effort, we managed to open up a gate to the Dark Digital World, and banished him there. I never expected him to actually escape it.

Palmon: The Digimon with him is Zanbamon. I’ve seen this particular one around, and everything I know about him isn’t good. He used to work under Vamdemon before he left years ago in search of the Eighth Child.

“I thought we were rid of him for good!” Daisuke groaned.

“Demon!” Tailmon shouted angrily, “you can not enter their world! Do you know how unbalanced it would make their world, as well as ours, causing it to be emerged in darkness and other negative energy?!”

“You all didn’t seem to care when you plunged me into a world like that! You opened up that gate to the Dark Ocean, and sent me through like it was no big deal! I had to put up with Dagomon after going through that gate, and believe me, getting rid of him was no easy task,” he uttered with a small chuckle. His eyes glowed in satisfaction as he recalled the event. “Since I remained there for such a long time, plotting and scheming, my body can no longer withstand the Digital World in the way that it currently is, and the human world’s shine is just as bright, if not brighter.

“I can only reside in darkness, which is why I plan on emerging both worlds with it, so that you can live in misery and despair, but it seems that those Guardians have taken extra precautions to keep me from going through any gates exiting the Digital World.”

“You are also Digimon murderers,” Zanbamon hissed. “You did away with some of our greatest leaders, showing no mercy what-so-ever! After we take over the human world, which will be incredibly easy, Sorcerymon here is going to finish what Ebemon was planning on starting.”

“BelialVamdemon was trying to take over,” V-mon argued, “we had to stop him!”

“Apocalymon was holding a grudge and was going to delete the Digital World; the world in which you all live!” Gabumon reminded them.

“Those Dark Masters were a challenge too,” Palmon shuddered. “They were just pure evil! Who wants those who are evil running and ruining our world?”

“VenomVamdemon was trying to take over the human world for pretty much no reason,” Agumon added. “If we would’ve let him, there wouldn’t have been anything left, and a lot of innocent people would’ve been hurt if we hadn’t have stopped him!”

“Vamdemon was in search of Hikari, just so that he could kill her!” Tailmon narrowed her eyes dangerously at Demon. “Hikari was just a child!! A child who did nothing to him!”

“Devimon tried to kill poor Takeru!” Patamon flew up to Demon’s face. “Just like with Hikari, he didn’t do anything to Devimon! He didn’t even know what was going on!!”

Demon gave the mammal a petulant look, which caused the small, pig-like Digimon to fly back to Takeru, who of which he hid behind.

“All lies!” Sorcerymon spat “You are murderers! They all had good reasons for what they did! Humans interfering with Digimon affairs! It was none of their business what we Digimon did!”

“Trying to take the lives of innocent people and Digimon doesn’t seem like a good reason to me!” Gomamon stated sharply.

Right at that moment, both Hikari and Ken seemed to grow unusually somber, as the realization and seriousness of the situation, sank in.

“Hikari-chan, Ichijouji-kun, what’s the matter?” asked Takeru.

Hikari stared at the gate, which still wasn’t completely open. She noticed some of the darkness and negative energy surrounding Demon, seeping through it, just as Ken had noticed. “If he plunges both worlds into darkness…” she started.

“…then you will live in fear and torment for the rest of your life.” Ken stared towards the gate in a bit of a stupor, as his experiences as the Digimon Kaiser flooded his fragile mind. “You will wake up with no sense of purpose, and live your life in constant depression and misery, while wallowing in self-pity. You’ll only be able to concentrate on your fears and weaknesses, as they overtake you and your life. ”

“It’s very difficult to fight against,” she muttered dismally.

“It’s very strong…” Ken stated quietly.

“It’s very difficult to resist, especially if you are weak-minded and unprepared.” Hikari thought back to when she was drawn to the Dark Ocean, and hugged herself. Back then, she couldn’t resist it, and gave in.

“I don’t plan on letting that happen!” the fired up Taichi told his sister assuredly. He looked towards Demon, ready to fight. “You are not going to destroy our worlds and make everyone walk around like brainless, depressed zombies!” He turned to his short, orange companion. “Agumon!!”

“Gabumon, Piyomon!!” Yamato and Sora called together.

“Tentomon, Palmon!!”

“Betamon, Gomamon!!”

“Patamon, Tailmon!!”

“V-mon, Hawkmon!!”

“Wormmon, Armadimon!!”

“EVOLVE!!” they all instructed.

Eiji stared in awe as the creatures evolved to their adult (champion) forms, with the exception of Tailmon. The girl could only look on in sheer amazement at both her (since she evolved to Angewomon) and Angemon. It was amazing how a cat and a guinea pig could manage to transform into something that resembled angels.

“So a bunch of worthless Digimon are going to try and stop us,” Zanbamon ridiculed. “Your levels are still low.”

“I’m not really worried about them.” Once again, Demon was coming across as quite arrogant and cocky. “I think I’ve figured why we’re stuck in between worlds.”

“What’s your theory?” Sorcerymon asked.

“The Digital World went through a reformation, and afterwards, the Guardians used extra precautions to prevent anything entering or leaving our world, unless it was allowed by them. The gates must were set up so that those of my nature or those with my type of data couldn’t go through it, so it’s like we’ve reached a bit of a firewall, and have to work our way through it.

“I’m sure when there’s enough dark, negative energy of mine in the human world, it’ll open up enough for me to go through, since it’ll be balanced enough to let me through.”

“Demon-sama (Lord Demon), the process of opening up this gate is nearly completed,” Sorcerymon informed him.

“I shall take over where that disgrace, BelialVamdemon, left off!”

“Enough of this standing around! Let’s get them!” Greymon charged after Demon, Garurumon and Birdramon right by his side, but Zanbamon made sure that they wouldn’t lay a finger on his superior. He leapt into the air and punched Birdramon, who ended up landing on both Greymon and Garurumon.

“I won’t allow you to touch the greatness that is Demon-sama!” Zanbamon snarled at them while unsheathing his mighty sword. “You human lovers are interfering, and I’m growing pretty damn tired of it!”

“Greymon; Birdramon; Garurumon,” Taichi, Sora, and Yamato called to their respective partners, “evolve again!!”

The three did as instructed and evolved to their perfect (ultimate) forms.

“I’m quite certain that I can take on you three!” Zanbamon teased. “Just try and attack me!”

“Spiking Finish!” a voice echoed, attacking Zanbamon from behind.

The skilled Digimon held his sword out and blocked Stingmon off. He’d heard him sneaking up on him, so instead of Stingmon’s energy knife penetrating Zanbamon’s digital flesh, he ended up stabbing the sword which Zanbamon held.

Demon could only smirk at the display of Stingmon and the three perfects (ultimates) trying to fight against Zanbamon. It was a very one-sided battle. Zanbamon’s agility was uncanny, so evading oncoming attacks was no problem for the Digimon; especially the long-range ones. ‘Looks like I’ll get to use the ex-Kaiser after all.’

Angewomon and the other Digimon joined in, in hopes of helping, but were easily defeated by Zanbamon. Every time either of them tried getting any type of hits on him, he would just move in the knick of time, landing a powerful hit on whoever was trying to attack him. He obviously wasn’t using his full strength, nor was he fighting at his full potential. He hadn’t launched an attack yet. All of his attacks so far, had been physically applied, and the only use he had for his sword, was to block.

“They can’t keep this up!” Daisuke said.

“Ichijouji, Dasiuke, have Stingmon and XV-mon jogress evolve,” Taichi instructed urgently.

Both nodded, wondering why they hadn’t thought of doing so earlier. They both realized that they would have a better chance if their Digimon were to jogress evolve to Paildramon, who could then evolve to Imperialdramon and then to Imperialdramon Fighter Mode. It wouldn’t hurt to have at least one ultimate (mega)-leveled Digimon around. Daisuke took out his D-3, while Ken took out his regular model Digivice…

“XV-mon! You and Stingmon jogress evolve!!”

The two took in Daisuke’s words, and nodded.

“XV-mon…”

“...Stingmon 230;”

“…jogress shinka…”

Nothing happened.

“What’s going on!!” Daisuke blinked.

“*You need a D-3 for a jogress evolution, maybe,” Koushirou theorized. “Ichijouji-kun has a regular model Digivice now!! Maybe they’re not compatible to work in such a way!! And if that’s the case…”

“...then that means Hikari-chan and Takeru-kun can’t have their partners jogress evolve either!” Miyako finished up. “Do you two have a regular model Digivice too?”

Hikari nodded; a bit disgruntled. When on their way to Ebemon’s, Daisuke went on about Takeru’s Digivice being a regular model version, and checked to see that hers was as well.

“We’re in trouble,” Michael muttered.

Growing bored of playing with his traitorous adversaries, he had finally started to launch his specialty attacks at them. He was determined to not let any of them get anywhere near Sorcerymon, who was still working hard on opening a gate to the human world, or Demon as he felt that these Digimon weren’t worthy enough for Demon to fight.

Zanbamon held up his sword, which seemed to be filling up with an immense power. It then grew a bright white. “Cross Slash!!!” The energy ejected from the weapon, hitting all of the Digimon, causing his opponents to weaken. Angewomon felt a bit low on energy, but not as badly as her comrades.

Hikari stared with tears in her eyes. “What are we going to do?”

Overhearing the girl, Demon stepped up beside Zanbamon. “There’s nothing you all can do. Your deaths are inevitable!”

“Demon-sama, don’t waste your energy on these vermin!”

“Zanbamon, I appreciate your concern, but it’s been a while since I’ve been able to do much of anything. Call this a vacation for me.” A couple of fire balls formed in his hands. “Flame Inferno!!”

“Oh no, we need Shakkoumon,” Iori trembled, while holding onto Eiji tightly. He wasn’t going to let any harm come her way.

“I want my D-3!!” Takeru shouted out in exasperation. Just like Iori, he knew that Shakkoumon would’ve been perfect for this type of encounter, since the Digimon had a very high defense.

Demon gave off a mocking laugh, as the two fire balls, which formed into one, headed towards the kids. Their partners, however, were standing in front of them to make sure they remain unharmed. WereGarurumon ran up, planted his feet into the ground, and held up his paws, just like he had when fighting against Gururumon. “Get back,” he told the children, while struggling to push the flame back at Demon. Unfortunately, the attack, which was launched at ease by the enemy, showed to be too powerful for the wolf, and knocked him back, injuring him terribly.

“WereGarurumon!!”

Angemon, Angewomon, Aquilamon, Birdramon, Kabuterimon, and Stingmon, had all taken to the sky, planning an aerial attack, but Zanbamon could only smile at the oncoming challenge. He used “Cross Slash” again, hitting all of the airborne Digimon, which caused them all to crash to the dark ground below.

As for the ground-based Digimon, they decided to launch all their attacks at once at both the knight-like Digimon and Demon, but it showed to be unsuccessful. Zanbamon’s agility seemed to increase about 10 times more than what it was earlier, and avoided all of the attacks aimed at him. Zanbamon then, within the blink of an eye, stabbed each and every one of them in the back. Demon just chuckled as he just took in any attack thrown at him.

After being stabbed, most of them ended up devolving to their child (rookie) forms, or either down a level from what they currently were. The only ones to not devolve were Togemon, Kabuterimon, Ankylomon, Stingmon, XV-mon, and Aquilamon. They were all growing incredibly fatigued, but they were managing to hold on to the bit of energy that they had.

“We’re sorry,” Gomamon apologized. “That hit from Zanbamon really took a lot out of us.”

“We’ll get through this somehow,” Jou told his partner confidently. “Don’t worry.”

Patamon couldn’t help but frown. “I feel terrible! We couldn’t get to Demon or Sorcerymon because of Zanbamon blocking us off. He was too fast for all of us put together!”

“I can’t believe I couldn’t take that attack!! I’m nothing but weak to have fallen from that!!” Tailmon criticized in anger while punching her giant, yellow-pawed fists together. ‘I never got my chance with Sorcerymon! He must really think of me as weak now because of that display!’

Agumon stared out, to see a few of them fighting it out still. “How come they still have enough energy to fight? That hit got all of us.”

“I don’t know,” Mimi answered vaguely, her focus on Togemon, “but let’s hope that they’ll be able to keep their energy up enough to beat them.”

“Bingo!!! That’s it!” Miyako announced suddenly. During the battle, she’d been strategizing. “I have an idea!”

“An idea?” the redhead asked. She nodded. “What’s the idea, Miyako-kun?”

“Shurimon!! I was thinking that he should fight.”

“But Shurimon is an Armor Digimon,” Taichi disputed. “He’s not as powerful as a perfect (ultimate). Armor Digimon are nothing but alternate adults (champions) when you get right down to it!”

“That is true, but Miyako-kun might be onto something.”

“Jou-san, what do you mean?” Daisuke questioned. “It’s a lower level!”

“But their defense is higher since they are Armor Digimon,” Koushirou explained. “It would help to balance out the team.”

“Also,” Jou continued, “Shurimon has a good amount of defensive attacks as well as offensive ones.”

“It’s worth a try,” Iori said. “I’m with you, Miyako-san.”

“Digmon would probably be good too,” Koushirou mentioned while rubbing his chin. “Digmon has good offense.”

“Aquilamon, devolve and armor evolve to Shurimon! He’s a better fighter!”

“You too, Ankylomon! Please armor evolve to Digmon.”

“Right, Miyako-san!”

“Okay, Iori, gya.”

Aquilamon and Ankylomon devolved, and made their ways over to Miyako and Iori. “Digimental…Up!!” they both called out, their D-3s and D-Terminals out.

Hawkmon tried evolving to Shurimon, but nothing happened. “What’s going on, Miyako-san? Why can’t I evolve?”

“I-I don’t know,” Miyako uttered in disbelief as she went through her D-Terminal. “My Digimental of Purity is no longer in my D-Terminal’s memory. The slot is empty.”

The same applied to Iori with Armadimon. The Digimental of Knowledge was no longer in his D-Terminal’s memory.

“How come the Digimental of Knowledge is no longer in my D-Terminal, just as the Digimental of Purity isn’t in yours?”

“I have no idea…this has never happened before…”

“What are we going to do?”

Zanbamon couldn’t help but give off a gloating laugh. “Having you here as children was perfect! Their Digimon aren’t as strong, and we won’t have to worry about Imperialdramon!”

“You knew that if we were brought back, that we wouldn’t be able to use Shakkoumon, Silphymon, or Imperialdramon?” Takeru asked.

Demon nodded, and also laughed a bit. “We fooled that girl well.” The looks on the kids’ faces was pure ecstasy to him. They all had looks of doubt and fear…

‘Have we really lost?’ Taichi wondered.

‘Is our world destined to be destroyed, just like the Digital World’s?’ asked Sora wearily.

‘No, there must be a way,’ Takeru concluded.

Ken shook his head. ‘No, there has to be a way. There’s no way we can let them get away with this! I don’t want others to live in such a depressive place.’

‘I have too much honor and respect for the Digital World to let anything go wrong within it! I made a promise when I accepted my duty as a Chosen Child. My Digivice is a symbol of that promise! I promised Armadimon and all the Digimon here, that I will help keep this place safe, just like the world I’m from!’

‘Some of my best friends are in the Digital World, like Gabumon. If it weren’t for my adventures here, I would’ve never met some of the best friends I’ve ever had!’

Demon had ordered Zanbamon for the both of them to attack together, until Eiji gave off a glow once again. Her chest showed a few of the crest shapes she possessed. The glow was so bright; it blinded pretty much anyone who was near her.

“Eiji-san! What’s going on?”

“I-I’m not sure, Iori-kun.”

“I feel…different,” Koushirou uttered while staring at the younger girl.

Mimi nodded blankly, mesmerized by the girl. “Same…here…”

‘Will this make Hawkmon stronger?’

“What’s going on?” Daisuke asked.

All of a sudden, the crest shape of purity (sincerity) formed in the center of Mimi’s chest; the crest shape of knowledge formed for Koushirou; the combined crests of knowledge and sincerity (reliability) appeared on Iori; the crest shape of miracles on Daisuke; the crest shape of kindness on Ken.

As for Miyako, her D-Terminal began to glow and shake vigorously. “What’s…happening to…this…” The D-Terminal showed the Digimental of Purity, which Miyako found extremely strange, since it hadn’t been there moments earlier, but it soon vanished. After it did this, it seemed that Mimi’s crest glowed an even brighter green. The same happened with Iori. He looked down at his D-Terminal, as it showed the Digimental of Knowledge, which partially vanished, which allowed Koushirou’s crest to glow brighter. As for where the other part of the Digimental went, Miyako looked down at her D-Terminal, her mouth ajar. ‘The Digimental…of…Knowledge? Wh-what’s going on? Why is this here? How could it transfer itself?’

“I feel energized,” Stingmon announced stealthily.

XV-mon nodded. “So do I.”

‘I feel as if I could evolve,’ Armadimon realized.

“What’s going on with them?” asked Betamon.

“Armadimon, chou shinka…”

“XV-mon, chou shinka…”

“Stingmon, chou shinka…”

“Kabuterimon, warp shinka…”

“Togemon, warp shinka…”

Miyako held up both her D-3 and D-Terminal, in almost a trance like manner. “Digimental…Up!!”

“Hawkmon, armor shinka…”

Everyone stared in surprise, witnessing the nearly “out of energy” Digimon evolve. They could hardly believe their eyes…

Author’s Note

Note 1: I know that a D-3 really isn’t the key for a jogress evolution, but logically, seems that both parties would have to have the same model in order to do so. It’s never been mentioned anyplace in canon to my knowledge what the true requirements were for a jogress evolution where one’s Digivice is concerned. Anyway, this is just my catch so that I could have alternate evolutions for the characters.
