Chapter two
By white Rain
Gohan stepped into action and grabbed his little brother before he could get hurt.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
Goten blinked and began to laugh, "That was fun! Can I do it again?" he seemed to already forget the fear he was in only a few seconds ago.
Trunks eyes widened, Goten was crazy. He was plain and simple crazy. He had been scared himself when he saw Goten fall, and Goten was laughing.
"I think that's enough flying for today," Gohan said with a nervous laugh, he just hoped his mother hadn't see what happened.
"Trunks, I can't believe you let that third class Sayjin beat you." Vegeta called.
Gohan rolled his eyes and Goten jumped out of his arms.
"I can fly, I can fly, I can fly!" Goten cried again and hovered a bit over the ground. He figured he wasn't really flying so he wouldn't get in trouble.
"Sorry, Dad, but Gohan's really tough." The five-year-old said.
"He is, is he?" Vegeta asked, raising an eyebrow, "do you think he could beat me?"
"No way!" Trunks said confidently, he knew his father was a whole lot stronger then Goten's brother.
"Uh, Un! My brother is a lot stronger then your dad!" Goten cried.
"Maybe in the Cell Games but your brother hasn't been training so now my dad is a lot stronger then him!" Trunks said matter-of-factly. He had heard his father tell him this many times. Trunks was one day to become stronger then Gohan, so he had to know all of that stuff.
Gohan realized that Trunks was probably right. He hadn't really been training since after the Cell Games. He didn't really miss all the life and death fights but he did sort of miss training. But, he'd been studying because that's what he knew his father would want him to do.
Goten stuck out his tongue out at Trunks, and said, "If you dad is so strong why doesn't he prove it?"
Trunks turned to his father, "yeah, why don't you guys fight right now?"
Vegeta smirked, "Am I right to assume that Kakarot's first child doesn't even want to fight me?" he turned to Gohan.
Gohan grinned, starting to feel some of his fighting spirit, "Maybe I would, maybe I wouldn't."
Vegeta said, "Why don't we ask the Namek?"
Goten turned to Trunks and whispered, "What's a Namek?"
Before Trunks could tell him, Gohan answered him.
"Hey Piccolo."
"Mr. Piccolo!" Cried Goten happily.
Piccolo gave a slight nod at Goten and turned to his former pupil. "Are you going to accept the challenge?"
"I don't know." Gohan said, part of him wanted to fight, but a large part of him didn't want to. Every time he stated to really fight, he had flashbacks of the fight with Cell...
"Are you afraid of me?" Vegeta asked folding his arms. Gohan was a Sayjin, and with enough taunting the kid might actually fall for the bait.
He may be smarter then Kakarot, but Vegeta knew deep down Gohan loved to fight as much as any other Sayjin. He was just holding back because of fear, and Vegeta would not none of it, the last of his race, third class or not, was not going to give up on reminding the brat who is.
"My brothers not afraid of anything!" Goten yelled, and quickly stepped behind his older brother, just in case, Goten had seen Vegeta angry more the once.
"I get it," Vegeta said, cocking his head, "You've forgotten how to fight. After four years of non stop studying you don't think you can hold your own."
"Of course he could," Piccolo snapped, he had a soft spot for Gohan and no one insulted him or his abilities as a fighter, "Need I remind you, that you couldn't even scratch Cell and Gohan saved you life."
Vegeta didn't respond, he could have told him how he had helped Gohan by distracting Cell with a blast, giving Gohan just enough time to get the extra strength, but he didn't want anyone to know about that.
"Yes, but that was four years ago and I've gotten a lot stronger." Vegeta said in after thought.
Gohan did not like the way the conversation was going. And he absolutely didn't like it when Trunks and Goten interfered.
"Gohan is really, really strong!" Goten proclaimed, "he carried twenty whole fish bigger then me!"
"Big deal I bet my dad could carry a hundred fish that are bigger then, then our House!" Trunks said smugly.
"Now way!" Goten said angrily.
"Why not?"
"Because there are no fish that big! Even whales aren't as big as your house and anyway whales are mammals!"
Trunks, Piccolo, Gohan and even Vegeta turned to stare at Goten.
"What" He asked.
"How did you know that?" Trunks asked.
Goten blinked, "Umm, I forgot!"
"Typical," Trunks muttered.
"Look, arguing about who is stronger isn't going to get us anywhere," Gohan said warily, he'd seen Trunks and Goten argue for hours at a time. (Usually because they couldn't work out their tensions in a fight, usually because Chichi and Bulma told them to work it out without fists involved. In turn Vegeta encouraged them.)
"So that means you're going to fight?" Goten asked eagerly.
"That would be so cool!" Trunks said. He had heard stories about how strong Gohan was and he knew his father was strong, he couldn't wait to see who was stronger. A good fight was a major source of entertainment for Sayjins. Only eating something (preferably made by Chichi, and never by Bulma) came close.
Both boys looked at Gohan pleadingly; they seemed to have forgotten their fight. The thought a good fight, rather or not they were involved was always great.
Gohan turned to Piccolo, but he gave Gohan no advice. This was Gohan's decision.
"I'll fight you only if we don't throw any ki blasts, I don't want to blow up our house." Gohan said.
"Acceptable." Vegeta said, dropping into a fighting stance.
Gohan fell into his stance as well and focused his entire mind on Vegeta.
Vegita made the first move and started a powerful series of punches and kicks. Gohan was able to block for awhile, but Vegeta kept increasing his game. Gohan knew if he was going to have any sort of chance to beat Vegeta he was going to have to get at least a few solid blows.
"Come on, brat, I know you can do better then that. I'm not even warmed up."
Gohan said nothing he could hardly breath. Gohan knew he was out of shape, but he couldn't be out of it, already. After all those years of training, he couldn't be this bad.
Vegeta, tired of waiting, once again let out a series of attacks. Gohan received every last blow. He couldn't seem to move. Something was stopping him.
He told himself to stop making excuses and flew up trying to get the advantage.
"I can fly too, you know." Vegeta said and kicked him squarely in the head.
Gohan let out a scream before everything went blank.
~~~
...A girl with long silver hair stood in a garden full of lavish pink and white flowers. He silver surrounds her like an aura.
"Where am I?" whispered a black haired youth with a slight whimper.
The girl looked at him with sparkling blue eyes and smiled.
"You look familiar." He said.
The girl said nothing and the boys eyes fixed onto the mark on her forehead. The yellow crescent moon... it looked so familiar.
The girl picked up two flowers, one pink and one white. She slowly walked up to him and handed him a white flower.
The boy held the flower in his hand as the girl ran away, "Who are you?"
The girl turned around and opened her mouth...
~~~
The first thing Gohan knew was a sharp slap across his face.
Gohan opened his eyes and shut them tightly when the bright sun hit them, "What did you do that for, Vegeta?"
He was so close to finding out her name, too.
"I had to get you up somehow," Vegeta snapped, "I can't believe you went out with a single kick."
"Told you my dad was stronger." Trunks whispered into Goten's ears.
"Are you okay?" Piccolo asked. He knew something was up. Gohan nodded. Piccolo knew all that he needed to know. When Gohan was ready, he would confide in him.
He walked into the forest and flew up to the lookout.
Goten ran into his brothers arms, "I thought you were dead." He cried.
"I'm all right," Gohan said, holding his brother tightly.
Trunks looked nervous. He knew if Vegeta hadn't been around, he probably would have hugged Gohan too. Gohan was like a big brother to him. But, he was not going to show any weakness in front of his father.
"Why did you go out like that? You fought better when you where six-years-old." Vegeta asked sharply.
"I'm not sure, I guess you hit me in just the right area to knock me out." Gohan said.
Gohan closed his eyes. That girl, she was in his dream last night, rather that morning. He'd felt something, but he didn't understand what it was...
"Where did you get that?" Goten asked, after calming down a bit.
"Get what?" Gohan asked.
"The flower in your hand."
Gohan let go of his brother, in his hand was a white flower.
