---- Recap ----

[Chibi characters of the five appear in the foreground as scenes from the last episode play
in the background. Though, you can't see 'cause this is text. Haha!]

Amiko: Last time- on GINGA GIRI GIRI! We all go our separate ways for now to train.

Kensou: I seek out my master, finding him gone as Amiko and Anya go to an abandoned dojo.

TM: Hiko prepares to teach me the Amakakeru Ryuu no Hirameki.

Davis: Cindy and I look around the city, finding someone who looks STRANGELY like Hayden.

Cindy: And without us knowing, the Nishiten cracks a plan involving us... What could it be?

All: Anyway! On with the show!

---- Chapter 62: Questions and Answers ----

The waters of Lake Sen were quite still as the sun set over the forest beside the lake. On
the other side, there was a small shack, smoke flying into the sky from its chimneys. As
the sky flamed, Kensou sat within his master's home with the fireplace giving heat in the
cooling night. He sat upon the single table at the end of the room, struggling to decode
the riddle.

"Revenge is a forest?!" he thought aloud. "What does that have to do with the succession
technique?!" He strained, pulling his hair and struggling to think of an answer.

His cloak hung from his chair and his hair band lay upon the table. His hair hung down in
their own strands to his shoulder, no longer in a tight ponytail. He became more and more
frustrated, unable to figure out the riddle. He just crumpled the note and threw it upon
the table and stormed out of the shack.

He angrily stomped towards the lake and sat himself right at the edge, looking across the
water. He then noticed his reflection in the water, somewhat indiscernible as a silhouette.

Kensou then noticed what he had done to his hair. He saw the blonde bangs, quite different
from his natural brown. 'That Kino made me do this,' he thought to himself. 'He forced me
into this hole. He forced me to hide myself like this...' He wanted a lot of things then.
He wanted to master the Nidachi Nitou Ryuu. He wanted to defeat Rantmon. And he wanted to
kill Kino.

He ended up remembering the words of his master's riddle, "Revenge is never a straight
line. It is a forest. And like a forest, it is easy to lose your way." He thought to
himself again, 'That's right... If I want to live long enough to repay Kino, I'll have to
follow a strict path. I'll have to be able to control myself and not lose sight. Then when
I get to Kino, I'll tear him apart with the Kamikaze Kenbu!'

Suddenly, he stopped. Kensou's eyes widened as his thoughts focused on something. 'Yes, the
Kamikaze Kenbu... That's the secret! That is the secret of the technique!' Kensou leapt to
his feet and took one last look at himself in the lake. If he wanted to return to normal,
he'll have to do all that. If he wanted to return to the way he was, he'll have to live
long enough to kill Kino.

He stepped back towards the shack. Back behind it, there were training poles, padded with
straw to use as practice targets. Kensou produced his weapon and unsheathed the two blades
and then pulled the weapon into two pieces. He stopped just before one of the poles and
looked down on it. He saw the dents, scratches, and scars he had given the poles, his
partners in training.

His voice echoed across Lake Sen, "KAMIKAZE KENBU!" In a fury of wild slashes, many tiny
shards of wood flew into the air in all directions. Straw, too, rained about the area. The
training pole ceased to exist.

"That is the first step to the succession technique!" announced Kensou to himself. "The
second step..." He dashed towards another pole, wildly swinging and spinning the blades at
the pole.

With the blades slashing about him faster and faster, Kensou felt the wind moving. The air
around him was moving due to the blade. He dashed straight at the training pole, letting
out a scream as he entered the real attack.

He suddenly caught his blades and violently slashed horizontally, each arm going in
opposite directions. The air around Kensou seemed to lift off of him. A crack suddenly
appeared on the side of the pole. 'There!' Kensou said in his mind. He flipped forward,
tumbled through the air, and landed a distance from its side, blades spinning in each hand.

He flipped forward, giving the pole a good drop kick. More cracks suddenly were etched into
the pole. He twisted around again, thrusting his still wildly swinging blades at the pole.
It shattered to pieces. It was different than with the Kamikaze Kenbu... Much different.

While the Kamikaze Kenbu sliced it to pieces, this one... This destroyed it in another way.
Kensou looked over the shattered pole and compared it to the one he just sliced to pieces.
The effects of each blow were radically apart. He smiled. "I've mastered the Nidachi Nitou
Ryuu!" he proudly announced.

He got to thinking, 'Master knows me well... And vice versa. I think I know what the attack
is named... Keiji Kenbu!' ('Sword Dance Apocalypse!') Such was how Kensou finished his
task... Four days had already passed since they had arrived at Century City.

***

Rewind four days, back when Kino had found the scratches on his master's wall. During that
time, nine distinct crashes echoed into the night. TM flew back in pain as Hiko's weapon
struck him in nine points. TM lost grip of his blade, and it fell to the ground as he
skidded back. He skidded along the dirt, and Hiko landed on the ground, gripping his own
bokken with both hands. He scoffed at TM, "Even with my blade, you couldn't defeat my Kuzu
Ryuu Sen!"

TM groaned and pushed himself of the ground. "God!" he yelled back. "Do you ever hold
back?!"

"Why should I? If you can't take my full power, you should quit now!"

TM glared back at Hiko, coughing and covering his mouth. "It's not that! I might
accidentally hurt you!"

Hiko's ears piqued at that. "So, you're saying that you have enough skill to even hurt me."

"Isn't that what I have to do? Strike back with the Amakakeru Ryuu no Hirameki? With your
sword, it could kill you!"

Hiko smiled. TM was taken aback by Hiko's calm. Hiko replied, "That's how the Hiten
Mitsurugi Ryuu is passed down. There can only be one master. (Not counting Kenshin- he's no
student of mine!) The original master is killed in the process of a new master being born.
That's how I inherited the art, and that is how you must inherit it. Your ideals are fine,
but they don't help against Rantmon. You need to be willing to kill indiscriminately in
order to defeat Rantmon!"

Hiko stepped up to TM's sword and kicked it back at him. TM still heaved from the heavy
blows, and Hiko just said, "Get up. Inherit the technique."

TM gritted his teeth. 'Damn it!' he screamed in his mind. 'I can't kill him! He only
survived Kenshin's blow because Kenshin had a sakabatou! I've got to find another way...'

Hiko didn't let TM think much more, and he flew at TM with another Kuzu Ryuu Sen. TM
quickly picked up his blade and blocked as quickly as he could, flying back again. He
couldn't block all nine hits at once. It was impossible!

"Come on!" Hiko yelled. "Quit holding back and perform the technique! You have all of the
necessary components to complete the technique, so do it!" Hiko prepared himself to fly at
TM again, putting his left leg forward. TM sighed and sheathed his sword, dropping into the
battoujutsu. He finally had made up his mind. He then kicked off from the ground.

They both screamed as they sped towards each other. They came dangerously close, Hiko with
the tip of his bokken aimed TM and TM with battoujutsu about to spring. "Hiten Mitsurugi
Ryuu!" they screamed at once, sweat running down each other's faces.

"KUZU RYUU SEN!" Hiko screamed as TM screamed, "AMA KAKERU RYUU NO HIRAMEKI!" Kaoru saw the
two techniques battle it out. As Hiko sped towards TM, TM drew his blade with god-like
speed.

Hiko was lying on the ground a minute later with a rather large gash running from his
shoulder to his hip. Kaoru gasped that Hiko was still alive. She then saw TM. She saw TM's
blade, covered in a red aura. She saw his returned red aura, setting the area ablaze in red
light. She gasped.

TM looked upon himself, seeing his familiar aura again. He grinned, "The mana has finally
unlocked!" TM then turned back to Hiko, seeing the man lay on the ground with a large
bruise. Kaoru's bokken had landed just beside Hiko's bruised body. TM stepped to Hiko,
"Hey, are you alright, Master?"

TM saw Hiko's eyes open, and he smiled. He got a bump on his head soon after. Hiko sat up
and scolded, "What didn't you understand?! You were not supposed to hold back!"

"I saved your life! Is that the thanks you repay me?"

"What's that?! I didn't train you to have an ego!"

"Come off it! The least you could do is thank me!"

"That's it, you're worse than Kenshin! You're no student of mine anymore!" Kaoru could only
sigh upon hearing the exchange.

Meanwhile, Amiko and Anya wandered through Century City. Fast forward to the next day, and
Amiko and Anya were up and about, cleaning up the dojo. They forced every shred of dust
from every crevice, lifted the mats, cleaned the floors, and soon enough, the dojo looked
bright and brand new. "If we're going to be living here," said Anya, "we might as well
clean it up, ne?" Amiko agreed.

So with that cleaned, Amiko and Anya leaned upon the wall, panting with fatigue. Amiko
looked around at their handiwork, quite surprised at the change the dojo went through. She
turned to Anya, "How do you plan to unlock my mana? And besides that, how do you know
Siria?!"

Anya smiled. "The easier question first: Your mana will unlock depending upon your
willpower. If you truly want to protect this world, your willpower will unlock the mana.

"With the second question, Mauzel is connected with our little group. We have all seen her
at one point or another, but let's not get into that. The gift of seeing Mauzel gave us the
strength to fight."

Amiko examined Anya, serious and quite sincere. She looked away from Anya and looked upon
the ground. "Seeing Mauzel made me feel the same way," she replied. "Her kindness and her
beauty... It made me wish she would never disappear."

"All the more reason to defeat Rantmon. He is slowly absorbing the God's power, and if he
does, Mana will be permanently sealed. With your mana, you all must defeat Rantmon!" Anya
then got to her feet and faced Amiko. She stretched out her arm and offered Amiko help.
Amiko took the hand and pulled herself to her feet.

"Are we going to begin now?" Amiko asked.

Anya replied, "Yes. We'll unlock your mana." Anya rubbed her chin, thinking of a way for
Amiko to unlock her potential. Anya then snapped her fingers together upon thinking of an
idea. "Prepare yourself for some genjutsu[1], Amiko."

Anya put her hands together and faced Amiko. "Genjutsu! Kurayami no Mon!" ("Illusionary
technique! Gate of Darkness!")

Amiko felt her hairs suddenly prick up. The room seemed to be a bit colder. She looked
around, and all the light seemed to have washed out from the room. She could see herself as
she looked down on her hands, but it seemed like everything else suddenly was swallowed by
blackness. She then heard a loud click. It came from just before her.

She saw the outline of a large doorway appear before her. 'Kurayami no Mon?' she pondered.
She saw another outline, that of the doors, standing closed before her. A creak filled the
area. The doors were opening. She peered through the gate and froze.

There on the other side, she saw nothing but blood. The sky was visible there, stained red.
Before her, she saw five crosses. A person was nailed for each cross, blood dripping from
the wrists and legs. They were her friends, Kensou, SSJ, TM, Davis, and Cindy. They lay
crucified before her.

She suddenly felt a pull towards the gate. She froze and saw a river of blood flowing from
the gate. It had wrapped around her legs and was dragging her slowly towards the door...
She braced herself, struggling to fight off the force. She couldn't move her legs. She
couldn't escape... 'I need to use magic!' she concluded.

She tensed her body, struggling to pull mana from anywhere possible. Nothing came. With her
mana, her magic had been sealed as well! She had to pull out her mana. She didn't want to
go there. She didn't want to see their faces. She gritted her teeth and yelled, "NO WAY!"

Suddenly, her green aura burst forth from her body. The blood disappeared, and as the green
aura filled the room, the darkness fled as well. The room returned to normal, though bathed
in a green light instead of blackness. She saw Anya standing there, smiling at her. With
her energy flowing, Amiko muttered, "That's some technique you have..."

Anya still smiled. Amiko felt Tenpi leap onto her shoulder. She patted her pet chocobo.
Anya then announced, "Okay, let's get to the 'Fall of the Sky'." Amiko set Tenpi down, and
Tenpi dashed over to Anya's legs. It hid behind her legs as she put her hands together.

Amiko slowly felt the air pressing down on her. The feeling crept upon her, slowly pushing
her down. She felt the temperature begin to rise. The attack was only beginning. The
feeling didn't leave. Instead, it intensified. The pressure increased, far more than
anything she felt before. She clenched her fists and tensed her body, trying to withhold
her screams. Her teeth ground together as the pain became all the more greater.

This was pain beyond what she had felt before. And it seemed rightfully deserved
considering what the guys did for Cindy and her. They had put themselves through worse pain
than this in protecting them. She needed her share, too! 'This is nothing!' she yelled in
her mind. 'This pain is nothing compared to Siria's! It's nothing compared to Kensou's!
It's nothing... Compared to SSJ's...' She bore with the pain. It continued pressing down on
her. She felt at the limit. The pain only intensified as the heat increased and the
pressure rose.

This was her proof. The proof that she could protect herself! She could walk on her own two
feet, and didn't need anyone's help! She struggled to move her joints. She struggled to
open her fists. She struggled to unbend her elbows. She struggled and stood straight up,
despite all the pain bearing down on her. The Fall of the Sky... She looked straight at
Anya, seeing her hand motions.

Her hands were still moving, moving closer and closer. Amiko presumed that once Anya's
hands met, the pressure would be at a maximum. They were about an inch apart. This was
nothing. This was nothing!

Amiko then noticed the ground. A symbol glowed upon the ground- the Rood Inverse. She felt
the pressure increase as Anya's palms were only a centimeter apart. A millimeter. Anya's
hands met. Amiko suddenly felt her shoulder pop. She couldn't breathe. The air felt like
flames. It was a terrible place, and she almost doubted whether she would live.

Still, she fought against the pain, moving her uninjured arm towards her dislocated one,
and shoved it back into place. She felt the sting. It was nothing! It didn't hurt! She then
screamed despite the pressure, "THIS DOESN'T HURT AT ALL!"

Suddenly, the air released its grip around her. She gasped a deep breath in surprise,
feeling herself free from the attack. Amiko fell to the ground and panted, sweating from
the heat. Tenpi dashed over to her and lovingly nipped her hand. Amiko saw his somewhat
fearful face. She smiled and hugged Tenpi.

Amiko then looked up at Anya, and was quite surprised to see Anya's surprised stare. "Did I
do something wrong?" asked Amiko.

Anya suddenly snapped out of her trance. "Huh? Wrong?" repeated Anya. "No... Just something
incredible." Amiko got to her feet and stared back at Anya. "You didn't just survive it...
No, you... You defeated it!"

Amiko and Tenpi exchanged glances. She looked back at Anya. "So I did..."

Anya slowly formed a smile. "I see why Siria put so much trust in you all. You people truly
are amazing."

***

Fast forward to four days after the Outlaws arrived at Century City. Davis sat upon a tall
fence separating the roof of a building from the very long plummet to the ground below.
There on the roof of concrete were Cindy and Mokona, practicing their attacks. Mokona was
human sized then, facing Cindy's weapons- her fans. "Hit a bunch of times with fans
technique!" yelled Cindy.

Mokona went flying back, reeling in pain. He landed on the ground and refused to move, just
sighing, "PuuUUpuu Puu puPuuU PpuU!" ("Looks like I can't fight anymore!")

"Quit acting, Mokona!" Cindy yelled back. Mokona groaned and rolled back to his feet. "You
need to get stronger as well! And I need to get better!"

Davis saw the two go at each other again, practicing and practicing without end. He smiled
at their determination. He then heard a faint noise in the distance. He shrugged it off,
continuing to watch Cindy's training. But the noise became louder, approaching, sounding
like some kind of machine. He heard it right behind him.

He yelped in surprise and fell from the fence, hitting his face upon the roof. He glared
back in anger, and suddenly froze. Cindy and Mokona paused in their sparring to look at the
spectacle, and too, froze. It was a terror drone. David Jarrett was back again?! "It can't
be you," muttered Davis as he got up.

But no matter how much he wished, the hatch of the drone opened and there was David
Jarrett, bandaged all over. Davis and Cindy exchanged glances. "Did you do that to him?"
asked Davis.

"No way!" Cindy yelled back.

"Kids," Jarrett began, strangely calm. They turned to him. "This'll be the last time we
meet, since I'll no doubt be exiled somewhere for stealing this, but you need to know
something. There is a kid chasing after you."

The two Outlaws looked up at him, surprised at the news. "What are you talking about?!"
demanded Davis.

"I was injured by this one kid who was seeking you. He had black hair and brown eyes and
carried around a pair of kodachi." Davis and Cindy struggled to think of someone they knew
who matched the description, but alas failed to link it to anyone. But Jarrett continued,
"I think he was called... Jallopsimon!"

Davis and Cindy suddenly stopped. Their thoughts just halted then. "Ja... Jallopsimon?!"
repeated Davis.

"Not him!" yelled Cindy, remembering how tough handling him was. "You can't be serious!"

"I am-" Jarrett was suddenly cut off, when he heard a rumble off in the distance. Jarrett
looked up from his machine and saw a rather strange shadow up above. Two wings, a long
neck, and a tail... A dragon?!

Cindy gasped, "Is that-"

"A dragon!" Davis cut in. Indeed, up above, there was a dragon. It was brown and blue,
clear from far above. They had already met it. Davis remembered its name, "Rith... The
Awakener..."

The dragon swooped down in a flash, landing upon the machine. It threw Jarrett out of the
cockpit, and Cindy caught him before he hit the concrete. The two looked up at the monster,
grabbing the machine in the claws of its feet. Its wings were outstretched and its tail
thrashed about the area, sending debris into the sky. It didn't seem to have seen the
Outlaws.

Davis and Cindy didn't dare breathe as the dragon floated before them. It raised its head
high into the air and let out a very deep bellow. Silence passed. It turned this way and
that, and bellowed again. Davis realized, 'It's calling!'

The ground around the area shook. Davis and Cindy dragged Jarrett away and behind a large
water tank just in time for Rith to turn their way, Mokona keeping close to Cindy. Wings
suddenly tore out of the ground from before the three. Black wings. It stretched into the
sky, blocking out the sun. Another wing tore out. Another dragon was awakening.

The unfortunate buildings and walkways near the site were torn to pieces as a tail tore out
of the ground and shattered whatever was in its path. Rith bellowed again. An even deeper
bellow answered. And finally, the head of the dragon, black and dark violet all over
emerged. Its arms and legs tore out of its bonds and it escaped into the sky.

It seemed to laugh. Davis, Cindy, Mokona, and Jarrett were suddenly surprised to hear a
voice in their heads, "Free at last! Free at last! I can finally rid the world of these
troublesome humans!" It suddenly stopped its laugh, mostly because Rith appeared in its
sights. Davis, Cindy, Mokona, and Jarrett once again sneaked out of sights, edging around
the circular tank and watching Rith from behind.

"You, too, are awake, Rith?" said the black dragon.

"Indeed, Crosis, the Purger!" announced Rith. "The time of our judgment has come at last!"

"Who freed us?" asked Crosis. "Who allowed us to wreak havoc once more?"

Rith paused and floated high into the sky to face Crosis. "Rantmon!" he declared. Crosis
almost smiled. "But now's not the time to talk. Head for his palace immediately. Trace my
scent and follow where I came from. I'm going to visit Treva now!" With that, Rith
outstretched its wings and sped off into the North.

Crosis just laughed once more. A cruel laugh it was, and a terrifying one that made Davis
and Cindy fear for their lives. They feared for them even more when Crosis suddenly became
silent. It sniffed the air. Davis and Cindy knew they were doomed, then.

Crosis twisted its neck and faced the tank of water. "My, my," its thoughts echoed. "What
an interesting pair of scents. If I'm not mistaken, those are the Meteor Gloves... And...
two bodies not from this world!" Davis and Cindy exchanged glances of fear. They couldn't
come up with a plan.

Suddenly, Crosis lunged, taking off the top of the tank and sending it flying off. Water
spilled all over the area, raining upon Davis, Cindy, and Jarrett. Crosis caught sight of
them all through the water. "Interesting. You two kids have an interesting scent!" Crosis
landed upon the corner of the roof, crushing the weak fence and tearing apart the fence
around with its tail.

Davis and Cindy stepped out towards the dragon, wet and miserable, and Mokona floated above
them. They faced the dragon, not knowing what to do. Not knowing what IT would do. They
stepped towards the curious dragon. But Davis stopped. Cindy looked back and saw Davis
shaking. He didn't make eye contact with the dragon, staring down at the ground instead.
"Davis?" asked Cindy.

Suddenly, Davis gave himself a good sock to his own cheek. Cindy was taken by surprise as
Davis suddenly screamed, "Why should I be scared?! These are nothing to Rantmon, and if we
can't beat these, what's the point of facing Rantmon?!"

Cindy was filled with hope then, and formed a smile. The two turned to Crosis, who seemed
to be smiling. "Interesting, indeed!" the dragon's thoughts called. "To overcome fear of
me, the cruelest of the Hybrid Dragons. Quite the feat. But... Will that be enough to
defeat me?!"

Meteors formed and hung in the air around the two Outlaws. Cindy loaded her guns with
normal bullets, readying for battle. Mokona landed beside them and shrunk to normal size.
It was beginning. This was their test. This was their final test.

Author's Note:

[1] Genjutsu - If you people watch Naruto, you'd know that ninjas have three types of
attacks: taijutsu (physical techniques), ninjutsu (ninja techniques), and genjutsu
(illusionary techniques). Now, I'm not sure how it worked in real life, but whatever.
