---- Recap ----

[Chibi characters of SSJ, Kensou, Amiko, TM, Van, and Davis appear in the foreground as
scenes from the last episode play in the background. Though, you can't see 'cause this is
text. Haha!]

SSJ: Last time on GINGA GIRI GIRI!

Amiko: Cindy meets Virus, and witnesses first hand its horror.

TM: We then cut to the Underworld, where Davis meets with Yuki.

Van: She explains her wishes, then Davis goes to face Virus.

Davis: And lo! I kick ass and defeat it!

(Suddenly, everyone turns to Davis. They are silent for a bit. Suddenly, they start
screaming.)

SSJ: AHH! ZOMBIE!

TM: RUN! THE DEAD WILL WALK THE EARTH!

(The Crew minus Davis soon flee the scene, leaving Davis alone in the shot. He sweatdrops.)

Davis: Guys, have you even been reading the chapters? Anyway, on with the show...

---- Chapter 83: Closing the Gate - Part One : Beyond the Gate ----

The days progressed faster than anyone had expected in their foresight. Before they
realized it, the days of April dwindled, spring time in the Other World moving forward, and
the sakura were bright. The trees were bright, the winds were light, and the Crew was
readying for a fight. With the world nearing a terrible plight, there was much to do within
the light. And the author quickly became tired of rhyme, all right?

In any case, SSJ continued practicing with his Atma weapon. Over the week of training, he
had adjusted quickly to its weight, adapting his Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu and movements to take
advantage of its larger mass. When he wasn't carrying his blade, he moved faster than ever,
his legs powerful and strong. He had even trained without the aide of his bishoujo, who he
allowed to roam the Capitol during the week. His room became crowded after that.

TM, too, let his bishoujo out in order to practice with his Izanagi. He practiced everyday
far from Century City; no one would let him practice inside the city. He threw flames
everywhere, making clones to fight against, practiced using water in his attacks and ice in
his defense. He remembered what Shadow did in the back of his mind, recalling the powerful
defense he had. But no matter how much TM practiced, he was unable to get his ice as strong
as Shadows. Similarly, he noticed his flames didn't do as much damage as they did in the
Rantmon battle. "Darn, combining with Shadow made some of the strengths cancel out," he
muttered to himself. "Water's the way to fight, then..." And he continued practicing on his
own.

Amiko wasn't so seriously practicing, and neither was Kensou. Having mastered the Nidachi
Nitou Ryuu, Kensou's days were simply filled with meditation and a few minutes of
refreshing his muscles. During that time, Amiko practiced her archery. She, too, figured
that her Sky powers were weaker with the combining with Black Amiko, but the fusion opened
the book of knowledge on Black Amiko's head. Amiko learned every spell there was to know,
and with her precise control of her aura, she was able to perform any spell, no matter the
element. She was left to practice controlling air currents to get the Bull's Eye every time
she shot her arrow at a target.

The days passed ever slowly as the Trinity combined processing powers to logically
determine Virus' location. With the discovery of the hole in the Millennium Sands, and
later that the world was hollow, everything was shaken up in Terra.

Kino used this time to start his operation upon Lee. Within the main lab of the Solarician
Capitol, Lee was strapped to a bed, looking up at a light. Kino sedated the man and let him
sleep, and during this, Kino pulled his vial of nanomachines. He was careful, dressed only
in a thick suit and with large magnifying goggles. Every precaution had to be taken, since
he was working alone.

The Hokuten watched from the side of the building, seeing Kino open the vial and look
closer at the vial. With his goggles, he saw the many atoms inside the vial, and with very
precise forceps, he picked up exactly one nanomachine. He zoomed out, knowing the
nanomachine couldn't fall. He carried the tool to Lee's shoulder.

He zoomed in again and dropped the nanomachine onto Lee's skin. With that, he stepped away
and headed to a computer console away from Lee. Various models and data of Lee filled
various screens. His body was a wire-frame green, while where his right arm should have
been was red. One screen showed many views from the nanomachine's tiny cameras. He typed a
command and pressed enter.

The nanomachine quickly went to work, breaking down the air and Lee's body and reforming
cells based on Lee's DNA. The Hokuten watched in amazement as Lee's arm slowly appear from
nowhere, growing, reforming, and after ten arduous hours, the process was complete. Kino
picked up the nanomachine and destroyed it with the forceps.

The Hokuten dashed to the table as Lee awoke. They poked and prodded Lee's arm as Kino
placed his tools away. Lee moved his arm away in annoyance of the other members, and he
realized he had feeling in his arm again. He saw with surprise and amazement his working
arm. The Hokuten were overjoyed with the successful operation.

It didn't take long after for the Trinity to conclude that the giant hole in Terra could
not have been the work of an asteroid. It was the work of advanced weapons, something only
the government had. Or perhaps an entire military fleet. Kino realized what had caused the
hole, "The ATAF! Daedalus is within Terra!"

"And Virus as well," Ego added. Kino nodded. He knew what he had to do. He needed to
prepare an army to take care of the ATAF. No, not an army. There was nothing that could
defeat the ATAF. Except for one weapon.

Kino heard of Battleship Libra, of the White Fang, and of the destruction of the giant
battleship at the hands of Rantmon. He stepped through the capital of Solarice, still
minding the tied up Terran Council being carried by Id. The Hokuten followed behind as Kino
stepped into the center of the capital, where a giant door locked with various methods
stood. Kino pressed his hand into the fingerprint scanner, let his retina be scanned,
inputted a number, and finally, he bit his finger and let the warm blood drip into a single
tray. The console by the door beeped.

With a hiss, air released from the lock, and the door slowly slid up. The Hokuten watched
in wonder as light flooded into the room before them. What they saw before them totally
stunned them. "Come on," muttered Paul. "How much of our taxpayer money goes into this
crap?!"

"I don't see how your government affords three nanomachine colonies after spending millions
upon giant computer towers, let alone THIS!" yelled Lee, arm in a sling as his body
adjusted to the operation.

The other members were too stunned to speak. There in the center of the room loomed a
towering weapon. Wires spread everywhere, connecting to every part of the weapon. It was a
cannon. "That can't be," muttered Orion. "The Giga Cannon..."

"Recovered straight from space after the White Fang's uprising," Kino added with pride. "We
have restored it in order to use it later, and now it seems this is the only thing that can
defeat the ATAF." Kino turned to the others. He smiled and looked at them with determined
eyes. "Tomorrow, we will begin the mission to recover Cindy of the Outlaws and the Master,
Mauzel. D-Day is upon us."

***

In the capitol of Century City, amidst the pipelines and bridges, the Crew had practiced as
much as ever in preparation of the final battle. But now, there came a break in the
intensity as they sat within the dining hall, eating their lunch. They felt the heavy
burden in their hearts, feeling once again the weight of the world upon them.

The world still needed their help, and with two of their friends gone, they couldn't help
but be discouraged. SSJ finally broke the silence, "I guess this is it." He shoved his bowl
of soup away, no longer feeling hungry. The others stopped eating, as well.

Amiko turned to SSJ as Tenpi pecked at greens upon a plate. Amiko petted her chocobo and
said, "Yeah... We'll be risking our lives once again."

There came a silence, the six people there became silent, listening to Tenpi chew his
greens. Kensou sighed, shutting his eyes and thinking. When he opened his eyes, he spoke,
"I will not run away. I may not be from your world, but I am wrapped in this battle just
the same, just as my father... I guess this is my fate."

"Fate..." Van suddenly cut in. "I don't believe in that crap." Everyone turned to him. "I
refuse to believe that humans don't have the power to decide their own fate. No matter what
weaknesses and mistakes we make, we have the strength to overcome it."

"Pretty optimistic, there," said TM as he leaned back in his chair. He looked up at the
ceiling far above. "Believing in the power of the human spirit... That's something that
needs to be proven. After all, we haven't seen anyone who could escape Virus' power... Not
even Rantmon."

"They were weak," Van said simply. "They didn't have the will to fight."

Kensou twitched at what Van said of his father. He became enraged that the newcomer had any
sense to say that. Kensou shoved his chair back and shouted, "What gives you the right to
say that?! What do you know of power?!" Amiko looked up at the disturbed Kensou in surprise.

Van sighed and got to his feet. Everyone looked up at the two, glaring at each other. "I
know a bit about power," said Van. Van then threw off his outer jacket and green shirt.
Everyone saw with surprise the scars where Cindy's bullets had bore into him, as well as
the cuts from the various sharks that came after him after he fell from Rantmon's island.

"This is power," coarsely growled Van. "The power to fight death with every fiber of your
body. Bullets in my lungs were nothing, not even after I fell a hundred feet into the
ocean. The sharks were nothing, even if I was outnumbered. The seal that Virus applied to
me was nothing. No matter what Virus wants to believe, we all have the power to do much
more than living."

Kensou saw the wounds Van had endured. He was silent, watching Van put on his shirt and
jacket again. Momo then spoke, "But... This is different from that battle. Back then, you
had lots of people there to urge us on. This time, you'll be alone. You do not know how
many people there are down there helping it, or if it's just alone. You don't know a lot of
things. How can you be so sure that you'll live?"

"Heh," Amiko said with a sneer. Momo looked up at her. "If we were to die, so be it. This
is not just our battle, remember? This is everyone's battle. The Gods are in this, too. We
have Kino's help, as well as the Hokuten. I can not imagine anyone with enough strength to
defeat all of us."

"Yeah," TM added. "I am not so weak as to lose now. I simply will not give up as I did at
Rantmon's palace. I will fight until every bone in my body is broken."

Momo then felt a hand on her shoulder. It was SSJ. "They are right," he stated. "We aren't
fighting Rantmon. Virus is far weaker. No matter how strong he is, he can not see the
strength that the living has. We won't simply give up. We will keep on fighting, no matter
what."

Momo looked up at SSJ, and then she smiled. She felt happy then, feeling a weight released
from her heart.

Suddenly, clapping rang through the hall. SSJ turned to the seat beside him, where he
suddenly noticed Davis beside him, clapping. He and Momo screamed and slid away, watching
Davis with wide eyes. "Davis!" SSJ screamed.

"You're alive!" screamed Amiko, tears coming from her eyes. TM looked in disbelief at his
friend, and Kensou could hardly believe that he was back. Van was smiling from across the
room.

SSJ angrily got to his feet. "How long were you there?!" he demanded.

"A minute or so," said Davis.

"And you didn't say anything?!" he screamed.

"Well, I figured it was funny to do it this way." SSJ just glared at Davis with very narrow
eyes.

Davis saw Momo beside SSJ, tears streaming down her cheek. Amiko, too, was wiping tears
from her eyes. TM smiled, his happiness evident. Kensou shook with joy. Van just grinned.
Davis smiled to all of them, "I know what's up. D-Day is tomorrow."

Everyone who heard was filled with determination. The doors then opened, Kino and the
Hokuten standing at the threshold. Kino suddenly noticed Davis. The Hokuten did as well.
Kino was stunned, seeing Davis back. "That can't be... You've come back?!" he inquired.

Davis nodded. He then remembered who he had met in the Underworld. Davis then got to his
feet and said, "Kino, can we speak in private?" Kino looked at him in surprise. He nodded,
in any case.

***

That night, there was much tension in the air. SSJ was in his room, amidst his bishoujo,
who were mentally preparing for the fight. He sat upon his bed, his bishoujo all around,
speaking amongst themselves. There was a knock on the door, then. Relena went and opened
it, revealing Anya. Anya approached SSJ, who was wearing nothing but bandages above his
waist. She said, "I noticed you needed clothes."

SSJ looked up at Anya. "You have some?" he asked.

"Of course," said Anya. She then set a box down before him. SSJ opened it and looked
inside, seeing a neatly folded set of clothes, colors red and white. "You can use these to
fight, tomorrow," said Anya as she pointed out the chain mail armor and the shoulder guard.

"Do I need to wear the shoulder guard?" asked SSJ with a grin.

Anya smiled. "If you want to look cool, go ahead." She then left the room. SSJ inspected
the box as the door shut again. There was a red T-shirt and a white sleeveless shirt which
went over it. He saw the armor that awaited him, as well as the brown gloves and black
boots. They had really planned that.

SSJ tried on the clothes then, seeing that it fit really well. He smiled, ready for battle.
That night, he slept well, the weight in his heart relieved from his friend being alive.

***

Amiko and Kensou were still up, standing upon a balcony at the top of the Capitol Building.
They saw the many stars, though very faintly because of the light below. They stood beside
each other, looking up in silence. "This is it," said Amiko. "This is the real end of our
journey."

Kensou nodded. "Yeah," he replied. "Our purposes would be fulfilled."

Amiko's eyes fell to the city below. "What happens after that?" she asked. Kensou looked at
her. "This is the end of the journey," she continued, "But then, what purpose would we have
here? The point of our arrival would be done, so... We'll have to return."

Kensou said nothing then, looking at Amiko with sad eyes. Tears came from Amiko. "You have
been a great help, Kensou," said Amiko. "Not just in battle, but... I feel at ease when
you're around."

Kensou put a hand on her shoulder. She looked up at him. "Don't worry," said Kensou. "Save
your tears for when it really is time to cry. Right now, just relax."

Amiko looked up at Kensou. She smiled and looked back up at the sky. "Thanks," she replied.
Kensou said nothing; he just smiled.

***

The night passed on, with the others ready. TM slept soundly, light hearted as ever before
the very serious day tomorrow. In another room, Van simply lay on his bed, looking up at
the ceiling. He was sure that his power would prevail. He wouldn't allow any other.

Davis sat up in his room, practicing the kanji in each of the elements. He had but a light
on as he scribbled kanji upon a single piece of paper. He then felt something land on his
shoulder. He turned and saw Mokona. Davis said, "Hey. Where have you been?"

Mokona sighed, "I wasn't there to help Cindy. I couldn't protect my best friend when she
needed it. If I couldn't do that, I was wondering what I was good for..."

"It wasn't your fault," Davis returned as he continued practicing. "Besides, that's why
we're going to save her."

"Still, I have done some thinking," Mokona replied. "I came to one conclusion: I can not
stay like this forever. I have to get serious if I wish to see her again. That includes
having to be absorbed into the gloves if need be."

Davis smiled. He looked at Mokona. "We will definitely do that soon," said Davis. Mokona
nodded. "We need all the power we need.

Mokona slept that night upon Davis' table. Davis looked up at the ceiling, feeling
everything coming to a close. He remembered Kino's face earlier that day. He smiled and
shut his eyes.

***

The next day came quickly. The Crew stood upon the top of the Capitol Building, dressed and
ready. SSJ stood with his new clothes, the armor of the Hokuten proudly shining on his
shoulder. His sheathed Atma rested upon his side. Beside him was Momo, going with them for
moral support.

TM proudly stood amongst them in his clothes, his scarf billowing in the wind. He rested
his Izanagi on his shoulder, awaiting the arrival of Kino's ship. Van stood, arms crossed,
by TM. His kodachi shown proudly at his sides.

Amiko made sure her armor was on tight, and she readied her June Bow. She threw the strap
of the quiver of arrows over her shoulder, and at her side she held her dagger. She looked
at Kensou, wearing his cloak and holding his new, black Nidachi. Tenpi sat on her shoulder,
lovingly nipping her ear. She smiled and patted her chocobo.

Davis and Mokona stood upon the landing pad, his gloves bright and clear in the light. He
still had his green shirt and brown pants, his cloak swaying with the wind. He then heard
footsteps. He turned and saw Hayden approaching. Hayden noticed Davis. "Davis!" yelled
Hayden in surprise. Everyone turned to see the sight.

Hayden stood there frozen as Davis smiled. He raised a hand and greeted, "Hey! Nice to see
that you survived!"

Hayden's look of surprise soon softened into a smile. "Yeah," he replied. "Nice you see you
alive again. How did you do it?"

The wind suddenly shifted; they looked above and saw Kino's ship casting a shadow upon the
building. "It's a long story," said Davis as he looked up. They made room for the ship to
land. The wind ruffled their hair as the ship finally came to a stop. It was large; large
enough to hold all of them with much space to spare.

They saw a large hatch on the side open. There was Kino inside the ship, waiting for them.
Davis looked up at the president of the world, seeing his bright, determined face. Davis
recalled what had happened when Davis had told of Yuki. The color in Kino's pale face had
instantly returned. Kino had been living in torment for years, and Davis was sure that
Yuki's words had reached him.

Behind Kino, sitting upon benches, were the Hokuten. "Come," said Kino. "Let us go now."
Everyone smiled and stepped towards the plane. Kino sat beside the pilot, and he spoke to
the rest, "Fasten your seatbelts, we'll be there soon enough." The Crew took their seats at
the sides of the ship, fastening the seatbelts as the plane began to rise.

The hatch shut and the engine roared. Suddenly, they were thrust forward, speeding towards
the Millennium Sands. The clouds rushed past as the Crew adjusted to their speed, feeling
the plane shake from the turbulence.

It didn't take long for the plane to travel several thousand miles and reach the Millennium
Sands. The plane slowed down and the engine's roar reduced to a hum. They began to descend.
Kino and the pilot saw the hole in the ground. It approached, a mouth that was ready to
swallow them whole.

They passed through the threshold, the ground soon coming past them. The line between
ground and sky rose, and soon enough, the sky disappeared from the window's view. The
lights in the cabin and outside the plane were turned on. Kino unbuckled himself from his
seat and went to the others. He pulled from his jacket seven sticks.

Kino gave a stick to SSJ, Amiko, TM, Davis, Kensou, Van, and Anya. He said, "Take these
flares and use them when you are in trouble. In case we get separated, these will be the
way to find each other." Everyone nodded, putting the flares in their pockets.

As Kino handed the last flare to Anya, the walls of Earth around the ship suddenly
disappeared, and the Crew saw through the two windows the spectacle outside. There was
nothing but black all around, save for the nearby pillars of solid rock. The pillars were
enormous, carrying a similarly enormous weight. The pillars made their ship seem like an
ant; the sheer magnificence of the sight catching everyone off guard.

And suddenly, the cabin lights became red. Kino looked up at the lights in surprise.
"Damn!" he swore. "Already?!" He dashed to the hatch and pulled it open. Everyone was taken
aback. Kino looked down at the sheer drop below, where he saw a light in the distance.
Smoke came from below, along with a speeding object.

A missile was headed towards them! Kino shouted, "Trinity! Do your thing!"

There was then the sound of unlocking. From the bottom of the plane, another hatch opened,
and down dropped the three androids, ready to fight. "I've got this one!" yelled Id as he
held out his hand. His hand quickly stretched and shifted, forming a giant blade from the
nanomachines. He swung the blade at the missile, cutting it and letting it explode.

From the three android's bodies, there came claws to grab onto the pillars. Scars cut into
the pillars as they scraped to a stop, watching down below for enemies. The eyes of
Superego glowed red as he searched far below. His eyes narrowed as he said, "More are
coming."

Id smiled. Ego just looked down with apathy. Many single lights were seen in the darkness,
each of them missiles aimed at Kino's ship. Superego released himself from the pillar,
dropping towards the swarm. Each of his fingers grew longer and thinner, sharpening to a
point a meter away from his hand. With each finger, he sliced through a missile, letting
the explosions fill the darkness.

Id leapt after him, as did Ego. "Looks like fun!" yelled Id. Ego still said nothing as he
looked down. As they sped down, passed the criss-crossing pillars, slicing through
missiles, they soon saw a single ship down below. By then, the ship above had disappeared
in the darkness. They aimed their falls at the ship.

The top of the ship suddenly slid open, revealing lines and rows of missiles. The Trinity
could hardly respond as the missiles all fired in unison. Smoke filled the area as they
raced up, towards the androids. The androids grew claws again, slicing through the missiles
and crashing into the single ship. They looked up and saw a missile racing towards the ship.

Suddenly, it exploded. They saw an arrow fly off. Amiko had shot an arrow to stop it. The
Trinity turned to the ship, ripping open a hole in the roof. They dropped inside to see who
was piloting it. What they saw stunned them.

There was no one piloting the ship. "Superego, see anything?" asked Id. Superego's eyes
became red again. He looked throughout the ship.

His eyes then stopped glowing. "The only signs of heat are in the engine," he concluded.
"There should be nothing else."

The three looked around, wondering what was controlling the ship. Suddenly, Ego jerked his
head to look down. "Below us," he said quietly. The other two looked below.

Suddenly, one giant spike tore through the steel and raced up. They saw that it was the
gray ooze of Virus. As quickly as they could, they cut the pillar and let it fall. Then,
from another part of the ship, another spike tore up, racing towards Kino's ship. The
Trinity had to tear the ship apart and destroy it.

They leapt out of the ship and onto the pillars. They looked down at the pieces of the ship
as they tumbled down into the darkness. There was a single explosion down below. The
Trinity was relieved to see that.

They waited there for Kino's ship, which soon arrived. Kino was standing at the hatch. He
called, "Good, retur-"

Kino suddenly froze. The Trinity was stunned, as well. All of a sudden, all around them,
lights turned on. Lights from all sides flooded the area, forcing everyone to shade their
eyes. The Hokuten and the Crew released their seatbelts and ran to the hatch. The pilot
came to a sudden stop. Everyone then gasped to see all around.

All around their ship, there were planes of all sizes floating in the air. It was an entire
fleet, armed to the teeth and protected by the strongest metals. Kino simply looked at them
all with wide eyes. "The ATAF," he could only whisper. They were surrounded by the most
powerful fleet in the planet.
