---- Chapter 82: Underworld Dreams - Part Four : Waking Up from the Dream ----

Things weren't looking too well within the core of Terra. Cindy was tired and exhausted,
constantly awake and on guard from Seiryuu's passes at her. The past days were the worst
she had ever had, sleeping upon stone, one eye open and aware of the surroundings. Her hair
became thin and weak, and she hadn't bathed since she was kidnapped.

She sat in the corner, keeping out of sight of the single doorway. Her clothes were
wrinkled as she sat and waited, hoping for her friends to come down and save her. She
hugged her knees tightly, keeping herself as small as possible.

Suddenly, she heard a scream. Her eyes shot open in surprise. A scream! That meant there
was someone else besides her and the Nishiten! She shook all over, hearing another scream
enter the sky. Who was screaming? What was she doing down here? Should she be helped?

Cindy couldn't help but imagine what was happening. Her knees shook as she slowly got to
her feet, her legs sore from running so much. She dashed out of the room and into the
smooth stone roads of the City of the Gods. She thought the scream came from her left, and
she turned to peer in that direction.

She saw the Grand Cathedral off in the distance. She felt a lump in her throat, seeing the
towers looming down the road. She gulped and took a step towards the cathedral. She slowly
stepped towards the cathedral, feeling the urge to just run away. She felt nothing but fear
and pain throughout her body. But she couldn't run away.

She had already reached the doors of the Grand Cathedral. She put her hands upon them and
shoved them open. They swung open with a loud creak, and she saw the brilliantly adorned
cathedral before her. Past the marble pews, past the chandeliers, and past the balconies,
she saw the throbbing mass at the opposite end of the cathedral. 'Virus!' she screamed in
her mind, realizing what it was.

She saw the woman trapped within the ooze. Her arms were spread apart; her legs were bound
together by the ooze. Cindy recognized her rich hairstyle and light skin, even from there.
"Mauzel!" she screamed from afar.

Mauzel screamed again. Cindy saw with horror as the ooze throbbed and moved up her legs.
Cindy turned white and dashed forward, reaching for her hip. She suddenly remembered her
weapons were taken away. She clenched her teeth and dashed forward.

Suddenly, she was overshadowed by six figures. She looked up in surprise and saw that it
was the Nishiten, dressed within new black cloaks. The blood left Cindy's face. "About time
you showed up, girl," she heard from one of the shorter members. She recognized the voice
as Seiryuu's.

"What's going on here?!" she screamed. "What is Mauzel involved with this?! What are you
people do-" Suddenly, a hand was on her neck. She felt her neck under pressure. She
couldn't breathe.

"Shut up," demanded the voice of Byakko. Cindy grasped for air, struggling to breathe. She
clawed at Byakko's arm, doing little damage to him.

"Let her go," came from the second tallest figure, Suzaku. "We need her, remember?"

Byakko's eyes narrowed at Cindy. He released her neck, and she collapsed to the ground,
gasping for the air. She felt a hand upon her head then. It was Gouki. "Just enjoy the
show, girl," said he. "It will be your last."

The Nishiten made an aisle between her and Virus, bringing her up to the throbbing wall.
She saw in horror as the ooze drip onto Mauzel's arm. Mauzel's screams pierced the
cathedral walls. Cindy saw Mauzel's veins rise to her skin, and Mauzel's fair skin turned a
dark shade of black. Virus was moving through her veins and taking over!

Cindy gritted her teeth again. All of a sudden, she clapped her hands and screamed,
"Raining Thunder!" The Nishiten looked up and saw the clouds gather within the building.

"What the?!" uttered Nataku before he heard the first crack of thunder. The Nishiten dodged
as six bolts struck the ground they had stood upon. Booms filled the cathedral, striking
the pews as the Nishiten leapt off. The fine marble cracked and smoke filled the arena.

"Idiots!" came a voice from Mauzel. Cindy was suddenly stunned, seeing Mauzel in the middle
of the contamination. She saw that half of Mauzel's face had turned black; one of her clear
blue eyes became a tainted red. She screamed, "Stop the girl, you morons!"

"Yes!" the Nishiten screamed at once. Before Cindy knew it, she skidded along the floor,
reeling from Byakko's punch.

Cindy rolled to her feet, crouching upon the stone floor. She rubbed her head in pain,
glaring at the five figures that stood before her. She then remembered there had been six.

"Don't move," came a cold voice from behind her. She felt the tip of a blade at her neck.
She suddenly shook, feeling nothing but fear of having her neck cut. She slowly turned,
seeing blood upon the blade. She turned and saw the one holding it. It was Genbu. She
noticed the tear in his forearm. She saw it move, close, and disappear. She recognized that
it was just like Anya.

She felt fierce tugs on her shoulder. The Nishiten pulled her back towards the wall, where
the last of Mauzel's body was being contaminated. Mauzel suddenly stopped struggling. Her
head was turned toward the ceiling, the mass containing her throbbing regularly. Cindy
waited in silence, seeing Mauzel turned to her.

Mauzel outstretched her arms. "Come!" said Mauzel. "It doesn't matter if you do not want
to. No matter what, I will break your spirit, just like Mauzel's." Cindy turned white,
realizing that Virus had completely taken over Mauzel. "Bring her to me, Nishiten!"

The six men shoved her forward, closer to Virus. Cindy shoved back, struggling to stay
away. She was ten feet apart from it. She then saw the mass stretch out from the wall and
catch her. She was taken aback as she was pulled into the ooze. Mauzel's body was absorbed
deeper into Virus. Cindy soon was positioned as Mauzel was, arms open in opposite
directions and feet together. Cindy struggled to move. No use.

She then felt something in her mind. "Interesting," someone's voice echoed in her mind.
"What interesting minds you Outlaws have... Let me see your worst memory."

"No!" screamed Cindy. She struggled against the strength of the ooze. She bit her lip,
trying with all her might to fight. Suddenly there was an immense pain in her head. Her
screams shook the cathedral.

Davis stood before Yamatani Yuki in the streets of the Underworld. He couldn't help but be
surprised at her sudden appearance. He shook in amazement, seeing her there. "Looking for
me?" he asked, muscles tense.

Yuki nodded. She bowed before him. "You know my sister, Yamatani Momoko, as well as my
ex-fiancé, Tsumuji Kino," she said to him. Davis's face instantly twisted at that
statement. She raised her head and said, "I have been wanting to meet one of you Outlaws."

Davis didn't know what to say. The awkwardness of the situation was too much. He scratched
his head, wondering what to say. He finally managed to ask, "So, why are you interested in
me?"

Yuki shut her eyes then. She sighed, then looked at the ground with lonely eyes. "I wanted
to ask you a favor," she said. Davis looked her straight in the eye. She returned the look
of concern. She just said, "Please, come with me."

Davis stood there, not knowing what to do. She turned and stepped away. He looked up at
Botan, who quickly landed beside him. Her oar disappeared into her oversized sleeves as she
asked, "Do you know her?"

Davis was silent for a bit, seeing Yuki step away. "I know people who do," he replied.

Davis stepped after Yuki. Botan followed, puzzled at Davis' reaction.

***

Davis looked up at a gigantic hill within the Underworld. He was surprised such a structure
existed, especially with the daemons floating out of sight. He saw the steps that led up
like a pyramid towards the plateau high above the ground. He suddenly wished he had never
come.

He heard the taps as Yuki stepped up the stairs. He saw her saunter up the stairs, her form
clear against the dark sky. He saw her turn to him. "Come on," she urged. Davis nodded and
stepped up after her.

The ground became much farther by the time Davis reached the top of the steps. He turned
and was absolutely amazed. What stood before him was the main city of the Underworld,
Inferi Urbis. Davis saw the shape of the city, a giant circle built around the Rood
Inverse. He saw the limits of the city from his vantage point, and off in the distance,
away from the city, he saw a tiny light.

"What is that?" he asked Botan, pointing to it.

Botan followed his finger and saw the light. "Oh, that is the second city of the
Underworld, Mortuus Urbis," replied Botan. "The Underworld is split into six cities: We are
in Inferi Urbis, the main city of the Underworld. When this town becomes full, families
sometimes will leave to the other five cities. The Underworld is laid out as the Rood
Inverse. At the center... At the center is now Virus. You will face him at the very center
of the Underworld."

Davis nodded. "Hey, don't just stop right there," he heard Yuki yell. Davis turned and saw
Yuki standing by the gates before a Shinto shrine: a torii gate. [1] He stepped up to it,
looking up at the magnificence of the brilliantly made gate. He was about to step through
it before Yuki screamed, "STOP RIGHT THERE!"

Davis nearly fell over. Botan sighed behind him. "What did I do?!" demanded Davis. He then
saw Botan step up beside him. She clapped her hands three times, keeping silent, and then
bowed. She then stepped through without a word from Yuki. Davis did as Botan showed. He
clapped thrice and bowed as well. He then stepped through, sighing from the sudden fright.

He stepped up to Botan and Yuki. "Didn't you famous Outlaws learn of our culture?" asked
Yuki harshly. "You did travel with my dear baby sister and all." Davis looked away with
narrow eyes. Yuki simply turned and slid open the large doors to the temple.

Davis followed, watching her slip out of her sandals and leaving it by the door. He
unzipped his boots and left them by the door, stepping onto the tatami mat with his socks.
Botan stepped through the door as well, stopping behind Davis.

Yuki stepped towards the opposite wall of the temple. Davis noticed the crest printed upon
the flag hanging from the ceiling: The Blood Sin. Davis stepped across the tatami mats,
following Yuki. Yuki kneeled down before him, and he kneeled as well. "Welcome," said Yuki.

Yuki bowed, as did Davis. Botan stepped up and kneeled beside Davis. "So, what do you want
to speak about?" asked Davis.

Yuki nodded. "First off, can I know your name?" she asked.

"I'm Davis," he answered. "Davis Matthews."

"Okay, then, Davis," said Yuki. "As you know, I am Yuki Yamatani, Momoko's sister and
Kino's fiancé. I have sought you since you have died."

"Okay, I get that," Davis returned. "How do you know about me?"

Yuki smiled. "You have been to the Receiver, right?" Davis nodded. "You must have noticed
the people sitting around the pools. Those pools show the Overworld, more specifically the
people we want to see. I have watched my sister for a while, and I saw her become happier
since she joined you people."

Davis looked at Yuki, whose eyes reflected joy. "I have seen what you kids have done in
your journey," she continued. "You have brought joy to the many people you have met, and I
know I can trust you." Yuki then looked up, facing Davis with determined eyes. "Please,
when you return, tell my sister that I am okay. Tell Kino that I am waiting, but tell him
not to rush things.

"I want the two most important people to me to live happily from now on, and when we meet
again, I want them to feel like they can rest. I want you, too, to tell my brother that he
can stop hating the government that killed our father. He's-" Suddenly, one of the doors
slid open.

Davis saw a drunken old man, dressed in a simple yukata. He held a bottle of sake and saw
the two. He shrugged and stepped out of the room via another door. Yuki sweatdropped. "He's
just fine," she finished. She turned again to Davis. She bowed her head low, her forehead
touching the ground. "Tell them that for me."

"You assume I'll live," said Davis.

"I can feel that you won't lose," Yuki replied. "I am a shrine maiden who can feel your
aura. It is different from everything else." Davis nodded.

He turned to Botan, and the two got to his feet. Davis looked upon Yuki and said, "Don't
worry. I will definitely tell your important people these things. I won't let you down."
Yuki smiled, tears rolling down her cheeks. Davis turned and stepped to the doors, slipping
into his boots and zipping them up. Botan put on her slippers and slid the doors open for
Davis.

Davis left the shrine without turning back. Botan shut the door behind him. He stopped
right in front of the doors, and Botan turned to him. He turned to her. "Let's go to the
center of the Underworld," he told her. "I'm ready to face Virus."

Botan nodded with a smile. "Okay," she replied. "Remember, we are counting on you."

Davis smiled. "Yeah."

Botan pulled her oar from her sleeve and leapt upon it. Davis did the same, holding onto
Botan. In an instant, she was in the sky and racing away from Inferi Urbis.

***

Davis and Botan quickly saw the graveyard that awaited them far from the cities. In the
darkness of the Underworld, they clearly saw the swords and weapons littering the area.
They were alone in the darkness, clear as day with nothing else nearby.

They saw bodies of daemons laying upon the ground, intact as if they were freshly killed.
'I guess things don't rot here,' thought Davis as they went further. Davis then saw the
lights. In the center of the Underworld was a small Rood Inverse and Blood Sin overlaid
upon each other.

Davis saw the lights coming from the glowing symbol. It was a pale blue light, illuminating
the frightening figure before the two. Botan shook as she approached still, but Davis was
absolutely trembling. He saw the throbbing ooze rising high into the sky, black wings
emerging from various edges. The wings of absorbed daemons. Davis saw the eyes blinking
throughout the body. Teeth and horns jutted out from the ooze at the worst places.

But the most frightening feature of all was the gigantic humanoid figure at the top. The
ooze was shaped as a sleeping human, arms crossed into an X shape, holding each shoulder.
The eyes were closed and seeming to await anyone who approached.

Suddenly, Botan sped towards the ground and came to a stop. Davis had nearly fell off from
the surprise. He stepped off and looked at Botan. "Sorry, Davis," said she. "I would love
to help you, but this is as far as I can go. That thing... I'm not strong enough to face
that thing."

Botan's eyes looked away. Davis just smiled and put a hand on her hair. She looked at him.
"Don't worry," he returned. "I'll take care of this thing, promise." Botan nodded as Davis
turned and stepped towards the giant towering mass.

***

Cindy was trapped in Virus. She couldn't hold back tears as the pain in her head became
worse than ever. Memories flooded into her mind. Memories she had long tried to hold back.
She saw a boy's face, which she had long pushed to the back of her head. She ground her
teeth together, struggling against Virus.

She saw him on a hospital bed, pale as the white sheets. One of the doctors covered his
unmoving face with the sheets. Cindy cried more than ever back then. Memories of the
funeral flooded into her mind. She couldn't help but utter his name to herself.

"So you loved this boy," she heard Virus mutter in her head.

"STOP!" she screamed back.

"Oh, I can't stop now," Virus' voice echoed through her mind. "You have such an interesting
life. Let me see more of it!"

"NO!" Cindy screamed, struggling to resist. It was no use. Virus pulled another painful
memory. Her screams filled the cathedral.

***

The eyes looked this way and that, constantly open, constantly searching. Davis stepped
forward, towards the giant tower. One eye searched up and around. It suddenly noticed the
figure approaching. It rolled and focused on Davis. Suddenly, all the other eyes turned.
Davis heard the sickening sound of the ooze turning the eyes.

Suddenly, a gigantic scream filled the Underworld, louder than Davis had ever heard before.
Davis covered his ears, but the scream was still piercingly loud. Davis looked up at the
figure, and he saw that it was screaming. Davis saw the ground glow brighter than ever
before, and he saw it turn blood red.

Souls rose from the Blood Inverse, keeping along the outer edges of the circle. Davis saw
the swirling red wall of energy preventing his escape. The humanoid shape atop the tower
screamed, and its arms stretched and released. The head turned to the sky, the screams
seeming to tear the darkness apart.

Finally, the screams stopped. Davis released his ears and looked up at the humanoid figure
at the top. The head looked down from the sky. Davis saw the blood red eyes glaring at him.
"So, it is you," he heard it speak.

Davis grit his teeth. His eyes narrowed into a glare as he said, "Virus... I can't allow
you to live. You have caused too much trouble to the world."

Davis glared at the face far above him. He saw the face look directly at him. Suddenly, the
face twisted into a smile. It suddenly began to laugh. Davis was taken aback. "Hyahahaha!"
came from the giant head of Virus. "You kill me?! That is the funniest thing I have ever
heard from you Outlaws! Do you even know what I am? I am Virus' soul! Even Izanagi couldn't
kill me, what chance do you have?"

Davis's aura suddenly burst out, shining like a candle in the darkness to Botan far away.
"Plenty," Davis answered. He raised his palms at Virus. The jewels on his Rood Gloves began
glowing red. "FIREBOLT!" he screamed.

There was a giant crack, and a flame raced from his palms straight at the head. It struck,
and a boom filled the area. Bits of Virus' ooze fell to the ground, Davis skillfully
dodging. And still, Virus laughed, "Hyahaha! Is that it? Come on now, get serious."

Davis' eyes narrowed even more. "Underestimating me," he muttered to himself. He saw Virus
lift his giant arms. Davis' gloves became blue just as Virus sent them at Davis. Davis
lifted his palms and concentrated, and in an instant, a giant wall of ice formed above him.
Virus' hands slammed into the wall, tearing it apart and sending the ice crashing into the
ground.

Davis dodged all of the ice, circling around Virus to the other side. His gloves turned a
mix of red and black. Virus saw in time to see the ground split and rise, forming into a
meteor. "METEOR STRIKE!" Davis screamed as he tossed it at Virus' face.

The flaming meteor struck the cheek, making the head reel back. Ripples formed in the ooze
as the impact moved through Virus. Virus laughed as the meteor shattered and fell to the
ground, turning to see Davis, standing there in shock. None of his attacks seemed like they
would work. He had nothing with a grand enough scale to defeat Virus.

Virus just leered at Davis and crossed his arms over his shoulders. Davis wondered what
would happen. All of a sudden, one piece of the ooze shot into the ground like a spike.
Davis was suddenly taken by surprise. He barely dodged left as a spike tore out of the
ground, cutting the side of his shirt.

Virus laughed again, shooting a great many shafts into the ground. Davis had his work cut
out for him, dodging left and right from the spikes that shot from the ground. Davis' head
suddenly ached again, information rushing into his head. He suddenly gained an idea.

He dodged one last spike, ready to try his idea. His gloves glowed a pale blue. He raised
his arms at Virus and concentrated. Virus shot spikes into the ground again. Davis didn't
move. Just as the ground broke and the spikes raced at Davis, he lifted his palms into the
air.

Virus suddenly felt pain as the spikes near Davis turned to dust before reaching him. Virus
felt pain all over as the gray ooze turned black. The head screamed, as he suddenly felt
dry all over. Water escaped from all of the ooze and diffused into the air. That Davis
pulled out all the water from him!

"Hah!" Davis yelled. "It worked!"

His gloves became red. He sifted through the information in his head. The information he
had gained from the Empathite was vast. He saw the many techniques others had used and what
had been successful. He saw their failures and how they could be remedied. The information
that made his head ache was proving to be valuable. He shouted, "Explode!"

Explosions tore all over Virus. Eyes were thrown from the blackened body. Virus' screams
echoed through the Underworld. Burnt dry bits of ooze fell all over, littering the Blood
Inverse upon the ground. Virus opened a blood red eye at Davis. "Bastard!" he screamed.

An explosion tore the head to pieces. Davis sighed and collapsed onto the ground as ooze
spilled everywhere. He felt more exhausted than ever. It took so much energy taking the
water from Virus.

Suddenly, he heard the ooze shift. He sat up and looked at the mass before him. The ooze
that had fallen to the ground moved no longer, but the still living, throbbing ooze in the
center of the Blood Inverse still remained. It contracted, rising and forming a human
figure. Davis saw the daemons and bodies released from the giant body.

Davis saw the small body formed before him. Torn wings shot out from it. Blood red eyes
opened and glared at Davis. Davis saw the horns, the muscles, and the claws it had. It was
Virus in his true form. "You..." Virus was angry. Vehement. "How dare you do this!"

Davis could hardly keep up with Virus' sudden step behind him. With a slash, Virus' claws
tore Davis' back. The armor covering Davis' upper back fell to pieces, and shallow cuts
appeared upon his skin. He was glad for the armor, but he didn't know if he could survive a
direct hit.

Virus was behind him again. As if by instinct, Davis' gloves turned green and a torrent
formed around him. Virus was taken aback as he was tossed away by the wind. Davis raised
his gloves in the air and slashed at Virus. "Wind Slash!" he screamed, easily mimicking
SSJ's old technique.

Two waves of wind raced at Virus. He was taken aback as his arms were torn clear off. Scars
tore into the Blood Inverse as Davis and Virus glared at each other. Davis' head ached
again, and he grabbed it in pain as the ooze from Virus' shoulders stretched and reached
for the arms.

Davis struggled to sift through the last piece of information in his head he had to come to
grips with. He saw a Rood Inverse, and several beams shooting out of each element. He
opened his eyes suddenly. He had an idea for an extremely powerful attack. He turned to
Virus, whose arms had reattached.

Virus dashed at Davis, who countered by turning his gloves brown. The ground rose up like a
wall between him and Virus, who crashed into the stone. Davis saw the claws tear through
the stone, but it didn't shatter immediately. Cracks appeared in the stone. He couldn't
take his time implementing his plan.

Davis turned one of his gloves white, the other black. With the white glove, he wrote the
kanji for light in the air, and with the black glove, he wrote the kanji for darkness. When
he pulled his fingers away, he used his utmost concentration to form the kanji with his
aura. His gloves became green and brown.

Virus broke through the wall. He quickly formed the kanji for sky and earth.

Virus raced at him, claws longer than ever. Davis' gloves were red and blue. He wrote the
kana for ice. He was about to finish the one for fire, but Virus had already reached him.

Suddenly, an oar came from the sky and slammed into Virus' head. Virus felt no pain, but he
was stunned for a second. "Sorry Davis!" he heard Botan shout. "Sorry I couldn't help
sooner!"

"You came at the perfect time!" yelled Davis back. With his red hand, he etched the kanji
for fire in the air. Davis focused his entire aura upon the kanji in the air. Virus was
thrown back simply from the reaction. Botan struggled to stay by Davis.

Davis imagined the kanji all in the sky like the information in his head told him. The Rood
Inverse was a powerful symbol, and also a powerful weapon. The kanji in the sky glowed
their respective colors, and the jewels on Davis' Rood Gloves constantly changed colors.

The kanji glowed brightly in the air before Davis. Virus turned and glared at him. Virus
dashed forward again.

Davis smiled. He raised his hands to the sky and screamed, "Now! Sigma!"

Six tremendous booms shook the entire Underworld. The ground around Davis instantly tore
apart. Stone and dust flew into the air, circling around Davis. Botan held tightly onto
Davis who concentrated simply on the attack.

The smoke split, revealing Virus dashing forward. He then saw too late what the attack was.

From each kanji in the sky, one beam of immense energy shot out, curving at Virus. The
ground shattered from the beams, even if they were far away. The beams that came near the
ground utterly disintegrated the stone. Virus could hardly react as all six beams hit six
different parts of his body.

His screams filled the entire Underworld. He tore apart from the intensity. The ooze could
no longer hold together, splitting apart, turning black, and tearing apart. Light filled
the entire area. An explosion tore through where the beams met, forming a crater in the
ground.

When the light abated, Davis and Botan opened their eyes to see the destruction before
them. The ground was in shambles, the Blood Inverse broken and torn. The red wall
disappeared, and the souls were thus freed from their bonds. The souls landed upon the
ground, looking around in surprise. Gasps of freedom spread across the souls.

They all focused on Davis and Botan, standing amidst the destruction. Everything was
silent. Blood flowed from Davis' back. Davis panted, Botan supporting him. He had used up
all of his energy in the attack.

Suddenly, the ground shook. Rubble before the two shifted, and ooze flowed out of it.
Davis' and Botan's eyes shot open as they saw the little bit of ooze left rise and form
into a head. That was all that was left. "You... You fool!" it screamed at Davis. "How...
How could a kid like you do this?! This... This is impossible!"

"Tch!" Davis spat back. "It just happened. Quit living in denial. You're not invincible.
Accept your fate."

"I'll return!" Virus shouted. "You can't completely kill me! I will return eventually in my
full glory! I will return to power! You can not stop me!"

Suddenly, the sound of flapping wings filled the sky. Virus was immediately silenced. Cries
filled the night as thousands of daemons sped down. Virus could hardly believe the number
that raced to kill him. "No! Wait!" it begged. "This can't be! You can not do this! I can
not be-"

It was suddenly cut off when the first daemon swooped down and caught Virus in its mouth.
The daemon's teeth cut straight through the stone, catching all of Virus. The many others
dug through the rubble, searching for any more traces of the ooze. The ones who couldn't
catch living portions settled with the burnt, black remains.

Davis and Botan watched it, the daemons ferociously repaying Virus for his years of
disdain. The two could hardly stand it. Botan pulled out and threw her oar at the daemons,
for it had some of Virus' ooze on it. With Davis leaning on her shoulder, she stepped back
towards Inferi Urbis. The thousands of souls greeted them and took them back to the city
with honor.

***

"GUAH!" Virus' screams suddenly shook the cathedral. Cindy fell from her place within Virus
onto the floor. The Nishiten watched in surprise as Virus screamed again. "GAH! NO! THIS
COULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED!"

Cindy felt her arm in pain, her head throbbing, and her cheeks red from her tears. Her
worst memories had flooded into her sight, and she couldn't push them back again. She
turned and saw Virus' agony. "Damn him!" came from Virus. "Damn that Dark Digimon Tamer! He
has ruined my hold on the Underworld! That bastard ruined my plans!"

"Virus!" came a shout from the door. The Nishiten turned and saw Daedalus. He dashed
forward, shoving through the Nishiten and asking, "Your screams! How did this-"

"SILENCE!" Virus screamed back. Daedalus froze. "I have experienced a set back!" Virus'
pants echoed through the halls. His deep sigh was heard by all. "The process will have to
be delayed until I regain some of my strength and more of her spirit is broken. You have
studied the human brain, have you not, Daedalus? Find her memories and DESTROY HER SPIRIT."

Cindy looked up at the throbbing mass of Virus. She was white with fear, unable to move.
She turned and looked up at Nishiten and Daedalus. Daedalus looked up at Virus and replied,
"Very well."

The Nishiten grabbed Cindy's arms and dragged her to her feet. Daedalus stepped out of the
cathedral, the Nishiten following. That left Virus alone, panting and in pain. "Damn it!
Damn it! This can't be happening!" Virus swore once more, cursing Davis' name.

***

Davis stood before Botan and Koenma, smiling as always. Koenma had his connections fix
Davis' armor and clothes, not to mention heal his wounds. The Underworld slept easier then,
knowing Virus no longer controlled it.

"Well, the Blood Inverse is quickly being redrawn," said Koenma, "And until it is done,
you'll have to stay. But I want to say thank you! Thank you for all of your help!" Koenma
bowed low, and when everyone saw that, they too, bowed to Davis.

Davis grinned. He raised a thumb's up and replied, "It was no problem! With this, my death
turned out to help the world!" Davis dropped his hand and looked seriously at Koenma. "Now,
I guess my friends and I will have an easier time dealing with Virus, but we'll still be
serious about destroying it. It has done so much we can't forgive it for, and we will be
set on completely eradicating it. We won't let you down, nor Terra."

Koenma smiled. Botan smiled from beside him. "So," said Koenma. "Stay! Rest until you can
return! I suspect the end of this journey of yours will end soon, and you need to put all
your energy into this last spurt." Davis smiled. He turned and stepped away from Koenma's
desk.

Davis stepped through the Underworld, looking up at the sky. While it was still pitch
black, he knew that the weight in it had been lifted. The daemons were more at rest. The
citizens were more at peace. The many who had failed at Virus' hands had returned to their
loved ones, who had rejoiced with their return.

Davis wondered if he would receive such a welcome when he returned. He wondered if time
traveled differently from the Overworld. His thoughts led him to the Receiver.

He sat at one of the pools, wondering how it worked. There was no console or control or
anything. He wondered, 'Now, how can I see my friends?'

The pool suddenly glowed. He looked through and saw SSJ and company. They were training,
practicing for the battle with Virus. He noticed Cindy was gone. With the thought, he saw
the pool change, showing Cindy strapped to an elaborate machine. He saw the Nishiten all
around her, Daedalus pounding buttons on the console. He noticed one of the Nishiten's
faces: Byakko.

Davis was taken aback, wondering how all this happened. He stood, watching the pool in
disbelief, seeing Cindy struggling to move. Her screams echoed in his mind. His face
twisted in anger. "She was taken in a sneak attack upon your friends," he heard from behind
him. He turned, and there was Yuki.

"Yuki!" he said in surprise. "What are you doing here?"

"I was going to see what was happening with Momo," she answered. She sat down beside Davis,
who couldn't keep still. He worried about the image of Cindy that he saw.

"Come on, there's nothing you could have done," Yuki told him. "Don't blame yourself
because you weren't there." Davis said nothing. Yuki turned to the pool and thought of
Momo. The pool rippled, and Momo's image was seen, keeping watch over SSJ's thousand
strokes with the Atma.

Davis suddenly noticed something. He saw Jallopsimon. He was suddenly taken aback,
wondering how he fooled the Crew into accepting him. He then heard Jallopsimon speak,
"Don't you think a thousand is not enough? You need to work harder to beat Virus."

"Shut it, Van," he heard SSJ spit back. Davis froze. He turned white. He suddenly
recognized Van, wondering how he never made the connection. He fell back in surprise.

Yuki saw him slam into the ground, wondering what had happened.

A day passed, and the Blood Inverse had been repaired at the center of the Underworld. At
the Rood Inverse in Inferi Urbis, many came to see Davis. He shook hands, received hugs,
signed autographs, and even had to turn down marriage offers. He just sweatdropped as he
turned to step to Koenma and Botan in the center of the Rood.

He nodded at the two. "Take care," said Botan. "We'll be watching and cheering!"

Davis grinned. "Yeah!" The Rood began glowing. A gate appeared in the sky. Black, blue and
white shown through, and Davis looked up longingly. He waved at everyone, and at Botan and
Koenma, holding back tears. He rose up, looking down upon everyone. He floated towards the
gate, seeing the many people.

He saw Yuki in the crowd, looking up with a smile. He then yelled at her, "Don't worry!
I'll definitely tell your sister, brother, and Kino!" Everyone looked at Yuki, who smiled
and nodded.

Davis looked up at the Gate with a smile. He disappeared through, moving towards Terra.

"Akito," Misato called from her home. She knocked upon Atma's door, hearing his breathing
on the other side. She knocked again. "Akito, aren't you going to see his departure?" She
waited. No response. She reached for the doorknob and opened the door.

She looked inside, and there was Atma, sitting cross legged as always. He faced the door.
Amazingly, she saw his smile. "Akito?" she asked,

Atma looked up at Misato. For the first time in a long time, she saw a sincere smile.
"Misato," said Atma. "I feel that my legacy can finally be put to rest. These kids truly
have the power to do that."

Misato looked at Atma in surprise. Soon, her face softened into a smile. She stepped to
Atma and sat by him. She rested her head on his shoulder. He held her tight. "Idiot, you
should respond when I say something," she muttered, knocking him on the head.

Atma smiled sheepishly. He felt more assured than he had ever been before. He felt light
hearted then. He knew he could put his trust in the Crew. The two sat there for a long
time, saying nothing. They just rested upon each other without a word.

And so, Davis returned to the Overworld, where the Crew awaited for the final battle with
Virus...
