---- Chapter 81: Underworld Dreams - Part Three : Insomnia ----

"Good Morning, sir!" called the secretary awaiting Kino.

Kino breathed a sigh, feeling home atop the Capitol Building at Solarice. He stepped away
from his armored aircraft, nodding to the pilot. His secretary stood at the threshold of a
doorway, which led to a stairway into his office. She bowed. So did he.

"Any news, Shannah?" he asked, taking off his coat and stepping past.

"Yes, the Council has been looking into your questionable attendance," she replied, reading
off a notepad she had pulled from her inside pocket.

Kino just muttered, "Tch. Just a bunch of old men, who understand nothing." He stepped down
the open, spiraling staircase, throwing his jacket over the rail. It flew off and landed
upon his desk with precision. He reached the bottom of the staircase, stopped, and turned
to Shannah, "How much have they been at it?"

"For the past two weeks," she answered. "Ever since you fought with Rantmon, they have been
looking at you with an even colder eye."

Kino sighed, stepping up to his elevator. "Senile fools," he uttered. "They care of nothing
but maintaining their power." He pressed the button on the panel by the elevator doors. The
doors slid open. Kino turned to Shannah, "Can you slow them down any more?"

"I still have some tricks I can use," she replied with a smile. "Just remember I support
you all the way."

Kino smiled and nodded. He stepped inside the elevator and turned around. "Then I leave
everything up to you," he told her as he pressed the button. The doors shut and his
elevator moved down the shaft. Shannah stood there, smiling at Kino.

Kino stood in the elevator, watching the city speed towards him. It sped towards him from
under, and in an instant, it was above him. He entered the underground shaft lit only with
pale yellow lights. He passed lines of lights, and the elevator became dark, then light,
then dark again.

When the elevator finally came to a stop, Kino stepped off to see the Trinity stand above
him, towering in the depression. He picked his way down the steps and through the circle of
consoles. He stepped into the circle of the Trinity and sat at the single desk within.
"Welcome," came the voice from the red sphere.

"Welcome, indeed!" said another voice. Kino turned quickly and saw Kale West at the
elevator doors atop the stairs. Kale rested his weight upon a cane, and in an instant, Kino
saw an army appear around the edges of the circular room. He looked around, seeing the army
carrying heavy arms, all aimed at him.

Kino glared at the old man. He heard a ping, and from the elevator doors, the other eleven
men of the council appeared. Kino muttered, "Bastards."

The twelve men before him sneered, standing with pride above Kino. Kino saw Harrison Craig
beside Kale, and Kino couldn't help but sigh. Craig, too, raised a single pistol at Kino.
"You fool, Tsumuji," Craig simply said. "We are the power in Terra. Our Council is the
wisdom of the world."

Kale tapped his cane upon the ground. Craig became silent. Kale turned a cold eye at Kino
and spoke, "The Mishima family knew this well, yet they became a nuisance. You were the
catalyst needed to destroy their hold upon the Presidency and create the Trinity. And now
with everything complete, we no longer need you."

Kino was silent, crossing his arms and closing his eyes, when Kale finished. Kino glared up
at him and muttered, "Is that all?"

Kale's face contorted with anger. He raised his cane and slammed it upon the ground. "KILL
HIM!" he screamed.

The screams of bullet erupted throughout the room. From every angle, bullets flew at Kino,
standing motionless within the center of the three computers. Holes were torn through the
towers. Shrapnel flew everywhere. Kino stood still, waiting for the bullets to come.

Suddenly, the bullets bounced off harmlessly. Smoke clouded the area around Kino, but there
was no doubt that there had been the sound of sparks and the clings of metal hitting the
ground. Everyone stopped firing. When the smoke cleared, they saw Kino standing in the
center of a powerful shield. Everyone saw plates floating in the air around him, sparks
flying at each other and forming yellow walls to protect the president.

"What the?!" screamed Craig. Suddenly, he was knocked out by a blow to the back of the
neck. The other members of the council quickly wheeled around, but were too slow to block
powerful strikes to their vulnerable points. They all collapsed to the floor in pain, and
there was Paul Mercuria standing in the midst of the knocked out Council.

The army turned and raised their guns at Paul. Paul stood there, gritting his teeth, for he
indeed was armorless. He lifted the body of Kale and pressed it close to him, using him as
a human shield.

The army hesitated. That was all the others needed.

In a quick moment, seals flew through the air, sticking upon the artillery. They were the
Earth charms. The weapons of a few soldiers crashed into the ground, and as they were
reeling in pain, Anya sped through the area and struck them all with a powerful club made
of bone.

The others were taken aback at the ferocity of the Hokuten's defenses, and they failed to
notice Lee speeding through them, kicking them into the air and throwing them about with
his one arm. Orion rounded out the offense by melting the weapons of the last remnants of
the army. That left the many unarmed soldiers facing the five members of the Hokuten, who
had survived against Rantmon. The army couldn't help but surrender.

Kino smiled from the bottom of the bottom of the room. He saw the walls around him
dissipate, and the plates flew back to Lee, who quickly stuffed them into his pack strapped
to his belt. "How are you holding up?" Lee heard Paul ask from nearby.

"It just takes some effort to fight with one arm," replied Lee. "I need to get used to it."

"No, you don't," Kino said from the bottom of the depression. The Hokuten turned to him.
Kino looked up at Lee. "Would you like to try my project?"

There was a short silence in the room. "Project?" asked Lee. Kino nodded.

"The Trinity knows all about it," Kino simply said.

The Hokuten were silent. They all exchanged glances, wondering when Kino would notice the
gaping holes in the machines. Kino looked up at the towers and shouted, "Come out!"

The Hokuten were taken aback then giant dents tore through the walls of the computers.
Holes were torn through the metal as the Hokuten watched in surprise. Slim hands reached
from inside the giant towers.

Glowing yellow eyes shone in the darkness of the towers. The holes widened, and a distinct
figure was seen in each of the towers. "Superego," Kino began. "Care to explain the
project?"

One of the figures stepped out from the towers, and everyone saw that it was a human. They
had never seen anything like it, a human with wires attached all over it. The person tore
the wires off, leaving holes throughout its body. The Hokuten saw the holes close, leaving
a bald man dressed in a black garment. "Of course," said Superego.

Superego's eyes glowed yellow for a moment. The Hokuten realized that Superego wasn't a
human at all. "What the Heck is that?" asked Anya.

Kino smiled. Superego's cold voice cut into the area again, "We are man's greatest
creations. We are machine in the form of man. We are bodies made entire of a colony of
nanomachines." The Hokuten froze in their spots. They could hardly believe that. It was
completely impossible! There was no way he could have made so many nanomachines on his own.

It was just then that the Hokuten realized that Superego just said "we". "He is on the
ball," a crass voice cut in. The Hokuten saw another figure appear from another destroyed
tower. He wore the same black kimono Superego wore, but he had wild hair that went
everywhere. "We are the best of mankind's superior intellect and machine's ultimate
strength," said the man.

There came a loud thud. From the last tower, the wall crumbled and one figure stepped out
from the broken mess. Everyone saw his kimono covering every portion of his body. He had a
scarf wrapped tightly around his neck. His hair neatly fell across his face. He didn't
speak. "Ego!" called the crass man.

"No time for friendly banter, Id," Kino spoke simply. "Let us clean up here." The three
bodies nodded. They moved swiftly to the top of the depression. The Hokuten were surprised
by the three's strength and speed. They were simply more powerful than the Gemini project
could have ever hoped to have been.

***

The screams of daemons shook the Underworld. Daemons gave shrill cries as they sped around
the Rood Inverse imprinted upon the Underworld. They circled in the air, waiting to swoop
down to kill Shiva, Alexander, and Pandemona, all black and menacing. Their red eyes burned
like coals in the darkness.

The three of the Light Trinity clashed with the three of the Dark Trinity. They exchanged
blows upon each other. They skidded away, leaving scars upon the stone ground. They glared
at one another, feeling nothing but hatred. "What the Hell did you do to gain this power?!"
demanded Ifrit in his harsh tone.

Shiva smiled. Her eyes narrowed as she crossed her arms. "You can not begin to understand
anything, primitive beast," she said simply.

Ifrit's bellow suddenly filled the Underworld, causing nearby buildings to rattle and shake
with immense violence. Ifrit was suddenly behind Shiva. He threw his claws forward, ready
to cut through Shiva.

Shiva's hand moved in an instant, catching Ifrit's hand by the palm. Ifrit was taken aback.
"Nothing but trash," was all Shiva said before she lifted up the beast and threw him into
the nearby buildings.

A giant crash echoed throughout the area as the buildings collapsed, leaving many souls to
flee the area. It became still. And suddenly, flames tore through the rubble of the
collapsed buildings. The stones were cleared in an instant, leaving Ifrit standing before
the three.

"Oh, he's more powerful than I thought," muttered Shiva. She then turned to the others.
"Take care of things," she said simply as she stepped towards Ifrit.

Alexander and Pandemona nodded. They turned to their opponents, Diablos and Fenrir,
respectively. The ground suddenly began to shake. Fenrir and Diablos felt it immediately.
The pressures from Alexander and Pandemona's auras were enormous.

The three of the Light Trinity released their auras, gigantic and terrible. Ifrit, Diablos,
and Fenrir couldn't help but be overwhelmed and thrown back. The Light Trinity stood
together, facing the separated Dark Trinity. "It is time," spoke Alexander. Shiva and
Pandemona said nothing more.

Shiva sped forward, racing towards Ifrit. Ifrit bellowed and tore the ground before him as
he sprinted forward as well. Ifrit stretched out his hand, aiming his claws at Shiva's
body. Shiva ducked, and from under Ifrit she screamed, "Diamond Dust!"

Ifrit was knocked back as a giant spike of ice tore through his gut. He screamed in pain,
shaking the very Underworld. Blood spilt everywhere as he was launched back, skidding and
rolling upon the stone floor. He scraped to a stop a distance away from Shiva, shaking and
bleeding.

Shiva smiled. Her tainted blue aura filled the sky and area as she stepped towards Ifrit.
Suddenly she felt Ifrit's aura. Flames came from Ifrit's body, and she saw Ifrit's wounds
close. Ifrit healed himself with his flames. She sneered. "Damn annoying dogs," she swore.

"Shut your trap," Ifrit spat back. Shiva stood and figured she'd see what he would do. She
saw Ifrit plant his claws into the stone. She looked with surprise as she witnessed Ifrit's
show of strength. He tore the ground of the Underworld apart. Ifrit tore off a giant piece
of the Underworld's ground, revealing the magma under it.

Ifrit leapt into the air, Shiva swore and threw icicles after icicles at him. The slab of
rock burst into flames, totally melting the icicles before they reached Ifrit. Shiva saw
with surprise Ifrit throwing the entire flaming piece at her. She prepared to run away.

Ifrit was suddenly behind her. He was completely faster than her! Ifrit slashed her back in
an instant. She was stunned. She saw the flaming meteor race at her with immense speed. She
didn't let the blood flowing from her back stop her. She formed a wall of ice before her to
block the meteor.

The flaming rock slammed into the ice, throwing steam and water everywhere. It tore apart
from the impact, fading into magma. Shiva panted. She had blocked the meteor!

And then she felt Ifrit shoving her from behind, right into the wall she had made. The wall
shattered like glass, sending shards all over, cutting the two incarnations. Shiva screamed
Ifrit grabbed her by the arm and leapt up.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!" Shiva screamed as she pulled her arm back. Ice gathered
around her arm, shaping and forming into a large spike. Ifrit saw it as Shiva slammed her
fist into Ifrit's gut. Ifrit screamed in pain, yet in his determination, he didn't let go
of Shiva's arm.

Shiva's anger grew even more. She stabbed and stabbed and stabbed Ifrit even more, filling
him with more holes. Blood flew throughout the air. Ifrit's screams filled the Underworld.
Pain surged throughout his body. Yet still, his grip wouldn't weaken. His persistence held
through.

And she noticed too late where they were headed. Ifrit was taking her down into the magma.
She froze, stunned, as Ifrit crashed into the lava. Shiva screamed in pain as the searing
liquid mauled her skin. Her screams filled the air.

Alexander and Pandemona watched in horror as Shiva's screams pierced through the night.
Shiva felt every part of her skin tear and sear. She felt the bone of her arm snap. She saw
with fear as Ifrit emerged from the magma completely unscathed. In fact, his wounds had
once again healed. Shiva felt Ifrit's hand on her head, and she screamed as she was dragged
under the surface. Her screaming stopped.

Alexander and Pandemona watched tensely as the surface break, revealing an unconscious
Shiva being carried away on Ifrit's shoulder. They saw the ooze melting from her, falling
to the ground like ash. Slowly, but surely, the blackness in her skin disappeared, leaving
only the smooth blue skin that was natural.

Ifrit set her down before Davis, who was still rubbing his aching head. Ifrit smiled... At
least, Davis think he did. "Done!" Ifrit said simply.

Davis smiled as well. He held his gloves over Shiva's body. He called, "Come, join me." Bit
by bit, Shiva's body broke away, turning into energy that went towards Davis' glove.

Alexander and Pandemona saw Shiva disappearing. They swore. "Damn it!" swore Pandemona.
"We're down one?!"

Suddenly, teeth tore into Pandemona's shoulder. Pandemona cried in surprise as he was flung
into a building, and Fenrir landed upon the ground in a rage. Pandemona turned to Fenrir,
whose hairs stood on end, rising like spikes. Pandemona couldn't help but mutter, "I get
the real trash here."

Fenrir growled at the large incarnation, who flexed his muscles. Fenrir glared at
Pandemona, baring all of his teeth. "Why did this happen?!" demanded the wolf of Earth.
"Why did you join Virus?!"

Pandemona sighed. He turned a cold look towards Fenrir and replied, "There is no escape
from Virus, you know. Virus is the power of destruction- the power of death which has
disappeared since Izanagi's exile. That is the true power, which we had lacked. We- well,
maybe not Shiva- have now achieved the ultimate power: death. We will not die!"

Fenrir growled in anger. "Is power all this is about?!" demanded Fenrir.

Pandemona's aura suddenly burst out again. "You are correct, sir!" he screamed as he
launched a giant tornado at Fenrir from his shoulder. Fenrir quickly leapt into the sky,
howling into the darkness.

Pandemona felt the ground shake, and he leapt into the sky just in time to dodge giant
spikes tearing out of the ground. Suddenly, he felt a weight crash into him, and teeth dug
into his shoulder once again.

Pandemona screamed and threw Fenrir away. Fenrir crashed into the ground at a tremendous
speed, sending cracks throughout the area. Pandemona's aura filled the area again as he
concentrated his energy upon the holes in his shoulder. "Tornado Zone!" he shouted as the
holes suddenly expanded.

A giant torrent formed between him and Fenrir, and it raced down, tearing apart the roofs
of houses and pulling up the Earth. Fenrir quickly leapt onto his feet and howled once
again. All of a sudden, the ground around him stretched and reached up like a shield,
blocking the torrent as it crashed down.

Booms filled the air as the storm tore through the stone, throwing smoke into the area.
Pandemona floated in the sky as he looked into the cracked egg of stone that Fenrir had
made. When the smoke cleared, he quickly saw Fenrir was no longer inside. He was taken
aback. "What the-"

"Terrestrial Rage!" he heard Fenrir scream from behind.

He quickly turned around and saw a giant tower of stone behind him, and there was Fenrir
atop it, eyes glowing in the darkness. In an instant, Fenrir leapt at Pandemona, fangs and
teeth ready to slash at him. Pandemona screamed, "Fall of the Sky!"

Davis looked up in the sky with surprise. He saw Fenrir closing his hands, much like what
Amiko did when she was practicing for the battle with Rantmon. He had seen her do that
technique, but he just finally managed to see it. His head began aching again as the images
he received earlier that day became clearer.

He heard a scream. He looked up and saw Fenrir in pain. A joint was twisted out of place.
Fenrir's coat burned. His hair was pushed down. Davis saw the pressure build around Fenrir.
Even so, Fenrir howled once again.

Pandemona was suddenly taken aback when he saw a spike race out of the tower behind Fenrir.
It moved too fast for him to dodge. It pierced him right in the shoulder, where the holes
were. Blood rained from the sky. Pandemona screamed, suddenly releasing his arms. Winds
raced around the area, uncontrollable due to Pandemona's pain.

Scars were etched into the ground, wind tore apart houses, and amongst it all, Pandemona
screamed in midair. Fenrir landed upon the ground, grunting in pain from his broken leg.
Still, that didn't stop him from leaping into the air and grabbing Pandemona.

Pandemona was surprised again as he was pulled down towards the Underworld, Fenrir slashing
and biting every bit of his black skin. Pandemona pulled back his fist to strike Fenrir.
Fenrir put his entire weight upon Pandemona's body. Pandemona was taken by surprise.
Suddenly, he slammed into the ground.

Smoke flew into the air as Fenrir growled in Pandemona's face. "Give it up," said Fenrir.
"Power does not exist in death. It exists in life."

Fenrir stepped away from Pandemona, who saw that he was in the egg that Fenrir made. He
turned and saw a tunnel dug by the wolf during the attack. 'So he had escaped that way,'
thought Pandemona. 'Damn it, I can't move.'

Fenrir saw the black ooze melt from Pandemona. It spread across the floor like liquid,
staining the ground with its evil. Fenrir stepped across the dead ooze and threw Pandemona
over his back. The wolf winced at the pain from his leg, but still crawled to Davis.

Davis saw the two approach, and he looked down upon Ifrit and Shiva. They had come down to
their last bits, which disappeared soon after. The jewels on Davis' gloves glowed a bright
blue. He smiled. He turned to Fenrir. "Your two's turns," he said.

Fenrir nodded and bowed his head. Davis once again held out his gloves, his head hurting
still. He pushed the pain to the back of his mind and concentrated. Fenrir and Pandemona at
once began to fade away.

Diablos faced Alexander, who had witnessed his two partners disappear. Alexander gritted
his teeth under the armor. "Damn it!" he shouted. "This can't be it!"

"Give up," Diablos said simply. "The Light who turn to Darkness are the worst beings in the
world. The only strength you have are given by others."

"What?!" Alexander spat back in anger. Diablos saw the fire in Alexander's eyes then.

Diablos narrowed his eyes and glared back at Alexander. "The greatest strength comes from
yourself," he continued. "No matter how much strength you absorb from outside, I can create
more."

Alexander just mocked, "What a joke. Relying on your own strength won't prevent you from
fading away. Only embracing Virus' power will you never fade. You will live forever, your
powers never leaving."

Diablos shut his eyes and sighed. When he opened them, he replied, "But are you truly
living?"

Alexander looked at Diablos in surprise. "I am tired of this chat," said Diablos. "Fight me
at full power, so I can show you how pathetically wrong you are."

Alexander fumed in anger. "I'll teach you to mock me!" he yelled as his aura burst into the
area. Diablos stood there, crossing his arms.

Alexander sped forward, launching a punch at Diablos. Diablos took it to the face, and he
skidded back from the force. Alexander stood there, proudly watching his work. "How was
that?!" he yelled at Diablos.

There was the sound of beating wings. Diablos spread his wings in the darkness, showing his
yellow eyes to Alexander. "Is that all?" muttered Diablos. "That was all the power you
received?" Alexander watched in fear as Diablos stood up proud. "My master went through
more pain than that punch. Be serious. If that is the extent of your power, there is no
wonder the others lost."

Alexander shook in fury. "Shut up!" he screamed at Diablos. "What do you understand?! You
mindlessly obey him and do his every whim, fighting this fight for him!"

"Did he ask me to fight?" Diablos asked back. Alexander hesitated. "If I recall correctly,
we were the ones who asked to fight. We are not under any orders. This is in our best
interest." Alexander gritted his teeth as Diablos continued, "The Dark Trinity aren't
slaves to anyone. Not Virus, not the Outlaws. You understand this but simply fail to
recognize. Now come and try again. Put all your effort into it."

Alexander screamed, "SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP! I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY! I'M RIPPING YOU
APART!" Steam rose from Alexander as his aura tore through the area. The stone tiles tore
away from his tremendous aura, pouring into the area. His screams filled the Underworld,
his hatred reverberated throughout the world.

Diablos only sighed. Alexander's aura suddenly opened, revealing many cannons underneath.
In an instant, a giant array of light beams flew everywhere, scarring the ground, slicing
through buildings, and racing towards Diablos.

The lasers tore into the ground where he stood, tearing apart the stone and revealing the
magma far below. Diablos stood there, arms crossed, and he took the attack head on. Light
filled the Underworld as the attack hit. Alexander grinned happily. And then the light
cleared, and he saw the number above Diablos' head: 200.

Alexander turned white with fear. "That was it?" muttered Diablos. "Weak, as always. No
wonder you had to rely on Virus."

Diablos raised his hand into the sky. "You're not worth the energy it takes to form my
gravity ball," Diablos scathingly spoke. Before Alexander could blink, Diablos was right
before him, already done slashing through his armor. Blood flew into the sky.

Blood dripped from the gaps in Alexander's armor. He coughed, kneeling in front of Diablos.
Diablos looked down upon him. "This is the power I have gained upon my travels," said
Diablos. "Every time Davis had called upon a meteor, Ifrit and I trained our powers. We
have grown stronger than you can imagine, and that is why your attack is completely
ineffective. This is it. You will return from whence you came."

Alexander fainted before Diablos, unable to say anything more. The ooze dripped from his
armor, mixing with the blood upon the ground. Diablos picked him up and flung him over his
shoulder. He stepped towards Davis, who absorbed the last pieces of Fenrir and Pandemona.

The pain in Davis' head abated a little, and his eyes saw clearer than ever. He saw Diablos
proudly carrying Alexander. Diablos nodded, as did Davis. Davis raised his gloves again.

***

Time passed, and Davis sat upon the Rood Inverse in the Underworld. The gloves upon his
hands glowed brightly with many colors. The colors shifted from white to red to blue and to
many other colors. Every single element surged throughout it. Davis felt it. His colorless
aura was given every color through his gloves. He felt the immense power of his new gloves
flow throughout his body.

His gloves were now in the perfect form. The back of his hand, all the way back to half his
forearm, was protected by pristine metal. It was pure white, curved and folded to be
unbreakable. The shifting colors of the jewel shone like eyes in the metal. The gloves had
cloth made of metal string, unbreakable and able to keep Davis' hand warm. The Rood Gloves
were Davis' ultimate weapons.

But all around was nothing but pure destruction. The stone was torn apart, buildings were
razed, and the magma had spilled into the underworld. It was a giant mess before Davis and
Botan, standing in the Rood. Botan gulped, "All that collateral damage..." She suddenly
turned white. "What will I say to Koenma about this...?"

She nearly fainted there, but Davis just said, "We can't worry about this. We needed to do
all that in order to get the power to defeat Virus."

Botan tried to speak again, "But still..."

"Just come on," Davis continued. "Let's go get prepared for the face off."

Just then, people began to approach the area. They were returning to see the area razed and
destroyed, seeing Davis as the cause of it. They let their scathing remarks fly, but Davis
listened to none of it.

He just stepped past the crowds and walked away. He scratched his aching head, Botan
following in the sky. He muttered, "Geez, I just hope everyone's okay. SSJ and Amiko should
be able to take care of anyone. I can't imagine TM being in major danger. Cindy should be
strong enough to take care of herself."

Davis stepped down the streets, no one else by him. Then, he heard a woman's voice come
from down the street, "Aren't you of the Outlaws?" He looked up, and ahead of him was a
beautiful woman, dressed in a white turtleneck and jeans. He thought she remembered someone
he knew. The two looked at each other. The woman spoke, "Finally, I have found you."

Davis looked at the beautiful woman in surprise, seeing her shoulder-length dark brown hair
and brown eyes. He realized who she looked like: Momo. She said, "Nice you meet you." She
held out a hand. "I am Yamatani Yuki. I have been searching for you ever since I heard of
your death."
