---- Chapter 80: Underworld Dreams - Part Two : The Starless Nights ----

As the birds chirped in Century City, a train skidded to a stop in the Central Station.
People lined the platform, waiting for the doors of the train to open and allow them
entrance. Kensou stepped off of the train in Century City, expecting a peaceful day. He
stepped past the groups of people, lost in thought. Kino was still searching for that Virus
character, Kensou figured, and it'd be difficult to locate it. Virus wouldn't move if it
was so weak.

He looked up at the skyline of Century City, and the first building he saw was a partially
destroyed hospital. He was immediately taken aback to see the enormous damage. He saw
through a hole various slashes upon the walls and ceiling. A battle had taken place there?

Kensou couldn't help but imagine his friends injured. Clasping his new weapon tightly and
expecting the worst, he dashed forward, into the city. He dashed past people walking along
the sidewalk, passing parked cars and barely opened businesses.

He found the hospital, where chunks of its roof and walls had fallen into the asphalt and
sidewalk. The ground was littered with debris, and the entire area was surrounded with
police tape. He couldn't help but feel anxiety at the chaos. Amidst the police and
firefighters taking surrounding the hospital, SSJ was speaking to Kino.

Kensou leapt over the police tape, his cloak swaying in the wind. The police and
firefighters yelled at him, but Kino noticed the man and calmed them. "What the Hell
happened?!" Kensou yelled. SSJ and Kino turned to the man, silent and serious.

He then noticed SSJ's body was not covered with a shirt, but with bandages stained red.
Kensou expected the worst. SSJ's eyes fell to the ground and he let out a heavy sigh.
Kensou expected even worse.

SSJ looked up at the ruined hospital. He was about to speak when Kino just said, "Let's
return. I'd like to make sense out of this, too." The others nodded.

***

The three arrived at the Capitol Building via the main pipeline, stepping off and making
their way to the main hall. They saw TM and Amiko, sitting at the tables waiting for them.
The two looked up with sad faces, and Kensou's anxiety only worsened. The three of them
stepped forward towards the two.

It was then that doors in the opposite hall opened and Momo stepped out, eyes sullen. She
stepped towards them. Van came out of his own room and stepped into the dining hall. Amiko
and TM were taken aback to see Jallopsimon and readied to draw their weapons. SSJ put his
hands on their shoulders, and they looked at him in surprise. He was as depressed as ever.
The two withdrew their weapons.

Amiko, TM, and Kensou noticed Cindy missing from the gang, and they couldn't help but
wonder what had happened since they had left. And with the group gathered, everyone sat,
hoping to sort through the facts.

SSJ began by speaking, "I don't know where to begin..."

Van then cut in, "I think we should begin with me. Amiko and TM don't understand what
happened." The two nodded their heads, and SSJ let Van continue, "You guys first should
know who I am. I am your friend from the real world, Van Toh."

Van let that fact sink in. Amiko and TM stared directly at Van, silent and unmoving. Their
facial expressions hadn't changed since before Van's revelation. And finally they burst. TM
screamed as he pulled at his hair, "NANJYA KORYAAAAAAAA?!" ("WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUCK?!") He
nearly fell out of his chair as he did so.

Amiko's mouth fell to the ground as she just stared silently at Van, recognizing all of his
facial features she failed to notice before. And she fell back from missing the fact that
he seriously was Van.

Van blinked and waited for the two to calm down and return to their seats. When the room
became quiet again, Van continued, "I don't know exactly what happened when I arrived in
this world, but I expect that while I was unconscious, Rantmon found me and placed a seal
upon my memories. I worked under Rantmon, trying to find my place. You know what happened
when we met.

"After my loss to Davis, I was tormented by the fact that I had lost my only purpose in
life. I searched the land, causing chaos wherever I went, always searching for proof of
myself. I chased after Davis, since I figured that was how I would prove myself. Well, I
found him at Rantmon's island, and well... You know what happened.

"After I fell off the island, I washed upon an island. I was surprised to even be alive,
since I was riddled with bullets and wounds. But I saw the island was covered with
technology of an ancient civilization. That is, ancient in this sense. The technology was
exactly as it was back home in the real world." Amiko, SSJ, and TM nodded, knowing what he
meant. The others were lost there.

Van finally said, "And it was there that I remembered who I was. I broke the seal upon my
memories and came to grips with what I have done. I called for help, and they brought me to
the Century City Trauma Center and healed my wounds. SSJ can tell what happened soon after."

Everyone turned to SSJ, who sighed and nodded. His eyes were focused upon the table as he
explained, "Cindy and I were left alone that night, and as we went to get drinks, Kino came
and told us of Van being alive. We took a pipeline to the hospital and immediately broke
away from him. We dashed through the halls and met with Van there. He told us everything.

"Then, Momo came out of nowhere, calling out to us." Momo ducked her head lower then.
Kensou and Amiko noticed it. "Just then, a man broke through the wall of Van's room. I
think his name was Nataku from what I heard. Anyway, he attacked and Van stalled for us as
we ran away. We had no other way to run, so we had to escape by the roof.

"Nataku then broke through the roof and we were stuck. Nataku ran to attack, but I was
caught off guard when I thought I saw his face become Momo's." Everyone turned to Momo,
wondering what had happened then. SSJ finally finished, "He ran past, and as I chased him,
I heard an arrow approach. I barely dodged so that it missed my heart, but that let Nataku
escape with Cindy."

With that, SSJ sighed at his failure. Everyone bowed their heads in sadness, feeling
nothing but despair for Cindy's loss. Momo felt a weight in her heart to heavy for her to
bear. She knew she was at fault. She had betrayed everyone, but they thought little of it.
They didn't abandon her there. She couldn't piece together why. But she finally gathered
the courage to speak, "He... That man... He was my brother."

Everyone but SSJ was silent, staring at Momo. She bowed her head lower, shaking in fear.
"After I met SSJ, the government came for me. My brother, Natsuki, saved me then, but I
heard my father was executed for helping a traitor." Tears welled in her eyes. "I knew my
brother was part of the Nishiten then, but I didn't care. I was ecstatic to see my brother
after years. He left me in Komachi, waiting for the day when he'd return.

"A day before I met with SSJ, Nataku returned and I was happy. He changed dramatically, and
he just told me to follow his plan of killing SSJ. He told me to join your party and find
his weak spot. Then when we arrived in Century City, I went to see Natsuki, and I told him
your weakness." SSJ and everyone else listened as she continued, "I said that your friends
mattered more to you than your very self. He took that to heart, and he and his gang
isolated you and Cindy when you went to seek Van there. It was all planned... And I had a
part in it..."

Momo's head lowered even more, tears streaming from her eyes. "I'm sorry," she spoke
between whimpers. "I have betrayed you all. I shouldn't even be here, telling you this. I
should have killed myself in my room!" She continued crying, and the rest of the Crew was
silent, looking down at the table in sadness.

A chair moved. Everyone looked up and saw Kino pushing his chair back and standing up,
sighing. "Kino?" asked Amiko.

"Wipe your eyes," Kino told Momo. "I can't believe you are related to Yuki." Momo's
whimpers were cut off, and she looked up at him in surprise. Everyone cast a surprised look
at him. "Here you are breaking down and crying over a mistake you made. Get over it."

SSJ just sighed, saying nothing and looking up at the ceiling.

Kino turned a cold glare to SSJ. "Do you think I make no sense? Do you think I'm cruel for
stepping on her feelings?" Kino returned. SSJ said nothing as Kino continued, "My ex-fiancé
would not degenerate herself to this show of pity. She had more strength than that. It
pains me more than anything to see her sister breaking down here."

SSJ was taken aback. Amiko and TM realized they had forgotten to tell SSJ that one little
detail. Kino continued rebuking Momo, "If you truly feel that you can't live any longer, go
ahead and join your sister. If you want to make something and atone for your mistake, quit
crying and walk on your own two feet. While you are still here, you can rectify your
mistakes by helping us."

Kino pulled his sheathed dagger from his belt under his jacket. Momo immediately recognized
it. "Ne... Nee-chan's dagger..." ("Si... Sister's dagger...") Momo lost her breath,
recognizing the finely made sheathe and hilt. Kino laid it down upon the table before her.
Momo looked down upon the dagger, then up at Kino, who returned to his seat.

Momo was silent for a long time, staring at the dagger. SSJ crossed his arms and closed his
eyes. "Kino, enough's enough," said SSJ. "We got the picture the first time."

Momo then weakly cut in, "Don't speak like that, SSJ." Everyone turned to Momo, who was
smiling again, looking fondly at the dagger. "He's right. I can not wallow in pity here."
She turned and looked at the ceiling. "Hah... Sister, are you watching this? I must have
been pathetic."

Momo wiped her eyes and looked at Kino with a smile. "I can not undo what I did," Momo
continued. "I, however, can help just a little." Kino smiled as well.

Momo stared straight ahead at Kino with determination in her eyes, and Kino then asked the
first question, "Do you have any idea how the Nishiten are alive? They were killed months
ago in a town named Meria."

Amiko then cut in, "Wait, wait. We need some info first. First off, who are the Nishiten?"

Kino looked at her and replied, "The Nishiten is a clan of thieves. They are famous
throughout the world for their strength and hatred for the government. However, despite
their reputation, they were found nearly all dead in a town called Meria." Van said nothing
about his hand in the matter. It was just a small detail after all. "They consist of six
members. Their leader, Suzaku, was the one who let Virus enter himself that time."

"So that's his name..." muttered TM. He felt glad he finally learned that bastard's name.

"The second in command is Seiryuu," continued Kino. "He's a sly calculator. His intellect
rivals Daedalus and mine. Last I heard, he used a bow and arrow for weapons."

SSJ felt the wound on his shoulder, which was healed by Yuna that night. "So that's who
shot the arrow," SSJ blurted out.

Kino continued without care, "Byakko is third, and he is the brawn of the group. His karate
is immensely powerful, and from the files I've read, he was the winner of the World's
Martial Arts Tournament long ago.

"Genbu is the last of the main four, who call themselves the Sushin, or the Four Gods. We
learned recently that Genbu's real name is Tsukimoto Shinsuke, but that name had been
erased from the record for some reason.

"Nataku, Momo's brother, is a fairly new recruit. He had only been a member for three
years, but he has earned a reputation for a ruthless killer. As you have seen, SSJ, his
style causes massive collateral damage and injury to civilians.

"And finally, Gouki is the bottom rung of the Nishiten. He is a hand-to-hand fighter like
Byakko, but not nearly as strong. He uses spiked tekkou on his hands as weapons, which are
made to withstand anything. Even if he himself is the weakest, his tekkou is his main
defense, and it is just about invincible.

"I gathered this information from the Trinity supercomputers, but there are many gaps to
fill. Daedalus filed an autopsy on them, declaring an attack by Rantmon as their cause of
death. However, from data we gathered from an informant, Rantmon must have been in his
island at the time.

"We suspect Daedalus stole their bodies and returned them to life, but we can simply not
imagine how he got the technology to do so. Based on the information the Trinity gathered,
Daedalus was working with Virus- and ex-President Mishima before he was killed."

Kensou shook in his chair. His father... He never expected his father's treachery to extend
that far. Every person he had trusted before turned out to have been a liar. But he kept
quiet, accepting the reality that his father had done so. He would seek out his master and
demand an answer.

And finally, Kino returned to his question to Momo. Momo only shook her head, not knowing
of why they were alive again. Kino sighed and got to his feet. He spoke to them all, "I
must go. There are many answers yet to be found, and the Trinity is the only thing that can
find it." Everyone nodded, and Kino turned towards the doors. He shoved it opened and sat
down upon the pipeline platform. It sped away through the pipes, leaving the Crew alone to
reflect.

***

Davis and Botan stepped away from Atma's home. They heard his story the previous night and
were allowed to stay as long as they wished. Davis appreciated the care very much, and he
looked back fondly at the house. They were a house happier in death than in life. But
still, the inhabitants wished their lives hadn't been cut short.

Botan followed Davis, and she asked, "Where do you plan on going now?"

Davis looked back and replied, "I'm going to contact a friend of mine."

Botan looked at Davis with confusion, wondering who could help him at a time like this.
Davis shoved through a crowded street, making his way to a giant tower among the relatively
small houses. Botan looked at it curiously, wondering why Davis was headed to the receiver.

Davis approached the tower and shoved open the doors. He had learned much about the
Underworld during his stay at the household. The receiver was the place where news from the
Overworld came to the Underworld. Pools of energy showed images from the Overworld like a
television set, and a great many souls sat around to watch.

A large aisle led Davis forward, many pools and chairs lining it. Davis stepped forward,
towards the staircase. He stepped upon the stairs, rising up towards the top. Botan
followed upon her oar as Davis picked his way up the stairs.

Davis gave up upon the twenty-first floor, and no end was in sight of the stairs. He sighed
and panted, and finally he leapt upon Botan's oar and she sped up the stairway towards the
top. Davis lost count of the floors by the time they reached the top, where Botan let him
off.

Davis found what they were looking for. Upon the top of the tower was a single gigantic
crystal, bigger than Davis' entire body. Davis looked upon it with surprise, not expecting
it to be so large. "What do you need the Empathite Crystal for?" asked Botan.

Davis turned to her. "I need to make a transmission to Frank Miguel." Botan's mouth nearly
hit the floor.

Davis simply turned to the Empathite Crystal and placed a hand on it. Suddenly, thoughts
rang through his head, "WHO ARE YOU TO GRASP THE EMPATHITE?" He felt a rush of knowledge
into his head.

Davis immediate let go of the crystal, his head aching from the sudden call. He paused,
staring at the Empathite. It had reacted to his touch and was glowing a bright hue of blue.
Botan looked on in fear as Davis reached and touched it again.

He felt the rush of information in his head again. He saw everything happening at once in
the world. Every transmission ran through him. Every thought, every action, every deed
rushed into his head. One single voice screamed, "WHO ARE YOU TO GRASP THE EMPATHITE ONCE
MORE?"

Davis struggled to keep his hand connected to the crystal. He cried in his mind, "I just
need your cooperation for a bit!"

"I CARE NOT OF WHAT PURPOSE YOU HAVE," the voice screamed again. "NO HUMAN HAS THE
AUTHORITY TO CONTROL THIS INFORMATION."

Davis felt his brain in tremendous pain. His head felt like it would split at any moment.
Davis just screamed back, "SHUT UP YOU GODDAMN MORON! THIS IS BIGGER THAN YOU!"

"YOU... YOU DARE SPEAK TO ME IN SUCH A WAY?!" the voice screamed back. "YOU PATHETIC MORTAL
CAN NOT GRASP THE LENGTHS OF MY POWER."

"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Davis screamed back. "QUIT GETTING IN THE WAY OF MY TALK WITH FRANK!"

The voice was immediately silenced. It then came again, though significantly smaller,
"Frank... Miguel?! Whoops, my mistake." Davis then noticed a man speaking through a
microphone at the end of the room. Davis sweated and his head ached, so he failed to
recognize the man as the one who controlled the fake Mauzel so long ago.

Still, as he felt the rush of information enter his head, he shut his eyes and called
through his mind he called, "Frank!"

***

Frank Miguel sighed, sitting in his room, sweating with fatigue. His backpack lay upon the
ground by his bed, practically untouched for days. School was in session then, and he
stayed at home doing nothing but non-stop coding. He felt tired and his eyes burned. He
wanted to get some sleep.

But events wouldn't let him as he heard Davis' voice call through the speakers, "Frank!"

Frank nearly fell out of his chair in surprise. He wheeled up to his desk and grabbed his
microphone, placing it by his mouth. "Davis?!" he called in surprise. He had known Davis
existed somewhere on his computer, but he didn't expect Davis to call him, rather than vice
versa.

Davis' voice called through the speakers again, "Yeah, it's me. Right now, I need your
help."

***

"What kind of help?" Davis heard Frank's voice through his mind.

Davis called out in his mind, "I need for you to send Shiva, Alexander, and Pandemona to
the Underworld."

There was a short pause. "Underworld?"

"It's where the souls of the dead go when they die here."

"Well, I'm pretty sure there's no 'Underworld' folder on my computer..." The two were
silent for a while. The aching in Davis' head became worse. Finally Frank called back, "I
see... You're in the Recycle Bin."

"Can you search for the three?" asked Davis, struggling to stay awake.

"I can, but it might take a while. My hard drive is gigantic." Frank became silent then.

Davis' head felt even worse each passing second. Davis yelled, "Hurry, Frank! I can't keep
connected for much longer."

***

"Okay!" Frank called back through the microphone. He cracked his knuckles and set to work
finding the three Incarnations. There was a furious sound of tapping in his room that day.
Frank felt refreshed from finding a new purpose.

Massive lines of text flashed past the screen, and Frank's eyes moved just as fast to read
the entire lines in instants. He had mastered the use of his computer during the weeks he
spent struggling to fix the world. It finally paid off when he found the file
"Inc_shi.dat", "Inc_ale.dat", and "Inc_pan.dat" in the five-thousandth line of a fairly
obscure folder.

As quick as he could, he sent them to the Recycle Bin.

***

"Okay!" Frank called again. "Go get them!"

"Gotcha!" Davis yelled back, pulling his arm away from the Empathite. Davis rubbed his
aching head, pulsing with all the information he just absorbed. Botan ran up to him and let
him rest on her.

"You looked like you were in terrible pain," Botan said to him. "Come on, let's go get
those three." Botan threw his arm over her shoulder and let him sit upon her oar with her.
They raced down the stairs and out of the tower.

Once they reached the outside, they saw a bright light in the darkness of the Underworld.
"That must be them," muttered Davis, struggling to stay awake. Botan nodded and raced
towards the Rood Inverse, tremendously bright in the still darkness.

With the huge flap of wings, daemons of all sizes raced down towards the three incarnations
that appeared in the Underworld: Shiva, Alexander, and Pandemona.

Botan saw from above the three's ruthlessness. Shiva shot ice at the daemons without mercy.
Pandemona sliced through them with sickles of wind. From Alexander's back shot beams of
light, cutting through whatever was left.

Daemons rushed down towards them, hoping to overpower them by numbers. But it continued.
The three fought with total disregard for the surroundings. Buildings nearby toppled. Many
souls scrambled away from the damage. The Rood still glowed, but constantly being cut and
remade.

When the daemons gained the sense to stop, the three Incarnations stood in the midst of the
many fallen daemons. Bloody limbs lay everywhere. Broken horns littered the area. Bodies
with torn wings writhed in pain.

Shiva looked upon their opponents. "Surprising," she muttered in a distinct, royal voice.
"I thought we were nearing the City of the Gods."

A low voice came from Alexander's metallic body, "It seems we have been killed."

Pandemona turned to Alexander and scoffed, "And how did that happen? An act of God?"

"Must have been someone higher than God," said Alexander.

The three were silent. They figured who it must have been. "Damn Rantmon," cursed Shiva.
"He couldn't have just killed us like that."

Pandemona grew angry. He hissed, "Damn him! Why would he do something like that?!"

The three then noticed an approaching figure in the sky. They looked up, seeing Botan
riding upon her oar. They saw Davis holding onto her as she landed. Davis weakly rubbed his
head as he relied on his feet to stand. Pandemona turned to the others, "Who is this wacko?"

Shiva and Alexander were deathly serious, though. Pandemona turned and saw why. He noticed
the Dark Trinity Gloves upon Davis' hand. The three realized why Rantmon deleted them.
"Shit," Pandemona swore as he prepared to fight Davis.

Davis weakly stood before them, feeling the energy of the incarnations seep through the
area. Davis then noticed the jewels of his gloves shining brightly in the darkness. A storm
tore out of Davis' gloves, and in an instant, he saw Diablos, Ifrit, and Fenrir standing
before him.

Diablos turned to Davis, "We shall fight them until you are able to stand by yourself.
Davis nodded, feeling his ache become a bit lighter.

Diablos, Ifrit, and Fenrir stood facing Shiva, Alexander, and Pandemona. "Tch," muttered
Pandemona. "Looks like they are seriously gonna try defeating us."

"They won't be able to," replied Shiva. The Dark Incarnations saw in surprise Shiva's skin
become dark. From her pores came the throbbing gray ooze. It spread all over her curved
body and all through her hair. She shut her opal eyes, and when she opened them, the white
and blue were replaced by black and red. She stood before them, hand on her hip, body dark
as night.

"I agree," said Alexander. From every joint of his metallic body, the ooze came out as
well. The white lights in the darkness of the armor, his eyes, presumably, quickly turned
red as the bright metal became dark as night. Alexander's armor twisted and reshaped,
forming the shape of a burly man, standing upon his feet.

"Time to raise some hell!" Pandemona added, the substance flowing from the openings in his
shoulder. His skin quickly turned from pink to black, and the yellow parts of his head
turned to red. His hair became a pure gray, and he stood before them, the ooze throbbing
from the pores.

The three stood before the Dark Trinity, surprised out of their wits. Fenrir began, "You
three..." He trailed off. "You really have been tainted..."

The three incarnations of the Light Trinity faced the three incarnations of the Dark
Trinity. Their battles stood before them. They waited for the first one to strike. As
Davis' head began to ache again, the three before him dashed forward. The Light Trinity
began to sprint forward. What followed was a clash never before imagined.
