Dee yawned and glanced up at the clock. Only an hour to go and then a whole two days off. It was about damned time.
Since they had come back to work, Dee and Ryo had been working almost non-stop. On top of their `normal' everyday activities they were also secretly helping the department to gather evidence on a notorious underworld boss, Terrance Vones. Thus far, evidence was few and far between.
Dee's eyes slid across the room and locked on the pale face of his sexy partner. Ryo's dark eyes were serious and focused on the computer screen, his light brown hair waving a little in the breath from their puffing air conditioner. He looked stressed, and Dee felt a wolfish smile stretch across his face; he couldn't wait to get the man home and work out all that tension. He knew just where he'd start to smooth out every little strain. Ryo sighed and lifted his glasses to rub a hand over his eyes.
“I hope you're almost done with those reports,” he said tiredly, and his eyes skidded to Dee. “Those need to go up today.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Dee answered. “They're almost done.”
Ryo sighed again and looked back at the computer. He really wanted to have everything wrapped up before they called it quits for the day. If anything was left he knew it would bother him through their entire weekend, and he'd probably end up stopping in to take care of it. His eyes drifted to Dee and he felt a nervous flutter rush through his chest. Of course, Dee might keep him sufficiently distracted.
His partner was leaned back in his chair, his arm stretched as he scribbled down the rest of the information in an almost illegible hand. His dark hair was hanging around his face; it had worked free from the careful style Dee had combed it into this morning and now was doing whatever it wanted. Ryo found it infinitely sexy. His deep green eyes were bored looking, but Ryo shivered a little as his gaze scraped across them. He knew as soon as he looked away Dee would look up at him again, and something about the thought of those eyes running over him just made him crazy.
“DEE-SENPAI!”
Dee dove beneath his desk.
“I'm not here,” he hissed frantically.
The door slammed open and JJ burst inside, one arm in a sling as he grinned and peered around the office.
“Dee?” he said. “Where's Dee?”
“Don't know JJ,” Ryo answered innocently as he pointed at the desk. “I haven't seen him for a while.”
JJ's grin grew and he bit back on a chuckle. The blue haired sharpshooter had to admit that Ryo had a strange sense of humor. JJ crept forward and peered over the desk.
“Senpai!” he yelled at the top of his lungs. “There you are!”
“Goddammit JJ!” Dee roared. “Are you trying to break my eardrums?”
“Well, when I yelled for you before you didn't answer, so I thought maybe I needed to be louder.”
Ryo chuckled.
Dee's eyes skidded to him and Ryo tried to wipe away the amused smile that kept pulling at the corners of his mouth.
“You,” Dee said lowly. “You sold me out.”
“Whatever do you mean?” Ryo asked, his voice again innocent.
Dee's eyes narrowed and he sat back down at his desk.
“What do you want JJ?”
“Just dropping off some paperwork for you. Oh yeah, Diana's here. She was looking for you guys.”
“Let me guess,” Dee said as he lit a cigarette. “Your partner distracted her.”
“Yeah, I guess they probably found each other by now,” JJ chirped. “Well, I'm off. I'll see you guys…what? In a couple of days right?”
“Yeah,” Dee said and frowned. “G'night JJ.”
“Goodnight Mr. Sexy,” JJ answered. “Goodnight Ryo.”
“Bye JJ.”
The door clicked shut and Dee ran a hand through his hair.
“I suppose you want to know what Diana has to say before we take off.”

Dee grumbled as he walked.
“We were off the clock five minutes ago, Ryo,” he complained. “I want to go home.”
“Jesus Dee,” Ryo answered. “I promise it won't kill you. Aren't you curious?”
“No,” Dee said firmly.
He was lying and both knew it. The dark haired detective knocked lightly at JJ and Drake's office door and then tossed it open. Dee and Ryo froze.
Diana and Drake were locked together, dancing slowly across the room, their arms tight around each other. Drake turned to them and gave both a wide grin.
“What the hell is this?” Dee asked.
“We're having a baby,” Drake answered, the giddy grin still in place.
Ryo blinked and Dee's jaw dropped. Diana laughed as Drake dipped her and then pulled her close again, his hug tight and joyous.
“We're having a baby,” he repeated.
Ryo smiled. “Congratulations!”
“Yeah,” Dee said, his own grin slipping out now. “Way to go!”
“Thanks,” Diana answered, a pale blush on her cheeks. “Thanks you guys.”
“Boy or girl?” Ryo asked.
“It's too soon for that,” Diana answered.
“It's a boy,” Drake said. “Definitely.”
“I think it's a girl,” Diana countered.
“Why?”
“Well why do you think it's a boy?”
“I have my reasons,” Drake said smugly.
“He's got seven brothers,” Dee said flatly. “The law of averages is on his side.”
“Is that how that works?” Ryo asked with a frown.
“Who cares,” Dee said. “Do you know what this means? Baby pool!”
Drake laughed and Ryo shook his head. Diana grinned and poked Ryo in the ribs.
“I'll give you the inside track Sandra Dee, we can split the take. I'll hold the kid in until your day rolls around.”
Ryo chuckled and leaned down to lightly peck Diana's cheek.
“Congratulations again,” he said. “Let us know if you need anything.”
“Of course,” she said.
“So…is that why you came by?” Dee asked hesitantly.
“Yeah,” she answered and grinned at him. “You know, life's too short to always be about business.”

Dee rested his chin on Ryo's shoulder as he peered down at the pan slowly filling beneath Ryo's careful hands.
“Wow,” Dee said. “I never knew lasagna was so complicated.”
“You could help,” Ryo said as he spread out another layer of the thick noodles.
“Nah, this is more fun,” Dee answered and snagged some of the cheese.
Ryo smacked his hand and Dee laughed as his other arm tightened around Ryo's waist. He nuzzled his face against Ryo's neck and kissed it lightly before he pulled away. He tossed the cheese in his mouth and gave Ryo a quick wink before he headed out into the living room. Bikky glanced up from the floor, the racing game paused and waiting.
“So how long until dinner?” the teen asked.
“I forgot to ask,” Dee answered with a grin. “Just a minute.”
He turned and headed back into the kitchen, his arms again sliding around Ryo as he propped his head back on Ryo's shoulder.
“Hello again,” Ryo said.
“Hey Sexy,” Dee answered and kissed Ryo's neck before he looked back down. “Damn, that's a lot of work.”
“Again,” Ryo said, a hint of exasperation in his voice. “You could help.”
“I'm no good at things like this,” Dee said.
“Liar,” Ryo said and pulled Dee's hands up. “Here, spread the cheese.”
Dee released an exaggerated sigh but did as he was instructed, his body still pressed firmly against Ryo's. Ryo poured in some more sauce, added some cottage cheese and spread it across the pan.
“Now the noodles. Try not to tear them.”
They pieced the noodles across the surface and Ryo turned to give Dee a small smile.
“See? It's not so hard.”
“Jesus!” Bikky yelled from the living room. “What the hell is the hold up in there?”
“I'm helping cook you monkey brat!” Dee yelled back.
“Dammit Dee,” Ryo snapped. “Not in my ear.”
“Sorry,” Dee said and kissed Ryo's cheek. “I'm really sorry.”
He kissed Ryo again and his arms slid back down to wrap around Ryo's waist. He leaned against Ryo and burrowed his face close.
“I'll make it up to you,” Dee whispered and kissed Ryo's neck again.
“That doesn't look sanitary,” Bikky said from the doorway, one eyebrow lifted.
Dee scowled at him and Ryo blushed darkly, his eyes dropping back down to the lasagna.
“Dammit,” Dee snapped. “Can't you leave us alone for five minutes?”
“Calm down,” Bikky answered. “I just came in to find out about dinner. If I would have known it was going to take this long, I would have asked for something else.”
Ryo frowned and Bikky grinned suddenly.
“Sorry Dad.”
“Sure,” Ryo said. “Since you're so desperate, why don't you start chopping up that salad. And then you can set the table. That'll definitely speed things up.”
Bikky released a sigh that was so similar to the one that Dee had just let out that Ryo couldn't help but laugh. Dee shook his head and rested it back on Ryo's shoulder.
“Don't even say it,” Dee said. “I don't want to hear it.”
“He's just like you,” Ryo said, a hint of pride in his voice.
“Dammit,” Dee said, blushing slightly. “What did I just say?”
“What are you guys talking about?” Bikky asked.
“Nothing,” Dee answered firmly. “Just do your jobs.”
“Whatever you skank. Now get your hands off my dad!”
He smacked Dee in the back of the head and Dee pulled free from Ryo with an angry roar.
“I'm holding a knife,” Bikky said, the head of lettuce in one hand and the blade in the other.
“You have to put it down some time,” Dee growled.

“He starts back to school in two weeks anyway. It sounds like a fun way to spend part of the last of his vacation,” Ryo said.
“Yeah,” Dee said.
“I know you're going to miss him, but he really wants to go to this thing. And when school starts you'll still see him in the evenings,” Ryo teased.
“Shut up,” Dee snapped and pulled Ryo closer on the couch.
Bikky was passed out on the floor, his hair splayed around him in a pale halo as he slept. He had just turned thirteen the week before, and his face was beginning to take on the blockiness of a young man's, the round innocent child slowly disappearing. His eyes still held their mischievous glint, but Ryo couldn't help but feel a little old when he looked at his sprouting son.
“I guess it won't kill him,” Dee said. “And God knows it'll be nice to have him out of my hair for a week.”
Ryo chuckled and brushed his fingers down Dee's neck. Bikky was all set to leave for basketball camp the following morning, the lasagna dinner had been his farewell meal. He had been practically bouncing off the walls with excitement ever since Ryo had signed the paperwork and handed over the check. Bikky couldn't shut up about it.
“You know, if he keeps playing this much, he is going to get better than you,” Ryo mused.
“Never going to happen,” Dee said. “Never.”
Ryo chuckled and kissed Dee's forehead.
“Time for bed.”
He pulled free from Dee's hold and knelt next to Bikky.
“Bikky,” Ryo whispered softly. “Time for bed.”
Bikky mumbled and Ryo couldn't help the small smile that darted across his face.
“Come on Bikky,” he said and tugged at Bikky's hands. “Let's go.”
Bikky got sleepily to his feet and yawned as he slung an arm around Ryo's neck and gave him a quick hug.
“G'night Dad,” he mumbled and trudged off towards his room. “'Night Dee.”
“Good night Biks,” Dee answered. “Get a good night's sleep.”
A slamming door was his only answer. Dee followed Ryo into the bedroom and both climbed into bed, Ryo yawning and throwing his arm across Dee's chest. He sighed with contentment and burrowed close.
“I'm not moving for the next eight hours,” he informed Dee. “Wake me up and I'll kill you.”
“Thanks for the warning Sexy,” Dee chuckled and kissed the top of Ryo's head. “Good night.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”

“Are we ever going to leave?” Bikky asked impatiently as they stood in the school's parking lot.
A long bus was waiting in front of them, a few kids still milling around outside as they waited for the last of the preparations to be made. Ryo gave Bikky a smile and ruffled a hand through his hair.
“Don't be so impatient.”
“Jeez Dad,” Bikky muttered and smoothed his hair back down.
Dee lit a cigarette and glanced up at the sun.
“Looks like you're going to have nice weather.”
“Yeah,” Bikky said suspiciously and stared at Dee.
“What?” Dee asked. “I'm making polite conversation you punk. It's a skill you should learn.”
“Bite me, old man.”
Ryo rolled his eyes and glanced around the parking lot again. He couldn't believe that this was how Bikky and Dee still communicated.
“All aboard,” one of the chaperones yelled with a smile. “Let's get going!”
“Finally,” Bikky said and picked up his bag.
He threw and arm around Ryo.
“Bye Dad, see you in a week. Take care of yourself.”
“Bye Bikky,” Ryo said. “Be good and have fun.”
“Can you do both at the same time?” Bikky asked with a mischievous grin.
Ryo chuckled and Bikky turned to Dee.
“See you Moron.”
“Yeah, don't get beat too bad, monkey boy.”
Bikky paused and then lightly hugged Dee before he ran towards the bus.
“Wait till I get back!” Bikky yelled. “I'll kick your ass up and down the courts.”
“Bring it on!” Dee answered. “Have fun Biks!”
“Bye Bikky!”
“Bye!”
The bus door clattered shut and the vehicle rattled to life and chugged out of the parking lot. Ryo and Dee waved until it disappeared from sight, a few of the other parents chatting and sighing with relief. They headed for the car and Ryo sighed.
“I hope he behaves himself,” he said, his voice suddenly tired. “I checked all my stuff this morning and I don't think anything was missing.”
“Come on,” Dee said with a grin. “He's too original to do the same thing twice. Did you check your wallet?”
Ryo's face fell and he pulled out his billfold. An I.O.U. was tucked inside. Ryo slumped and shook his head.
“He damn well will owe me,” Ryo grumbled. “I'm charging interest on this.”
“That sounds perfectly reasonable to me,” Dee laughed as he turned the key.
Nothing happened.
Dee and Ryo both frowned and stared at the car. Dee tried again but the car remained dead and silent.
“Well, shit,” Dee said and popped the hood.
They climbed out of the car and stared down at the engine.
“The starter's dead,” Dee said flatly.
“You can tell that already?” Ryo asked with surprise.
Dee gave him a sheepish grin.
“It's kind of been dying for the last few weeks.”
Ryo pressed a hand over his face.
“Dee…”
