“ Football?” Inuyasha asked Sango for the tenth time that day

“ Yes, Inuyasha Football,” she began “ Why is that so hard to believe?”

“ I don’t know, it’s just you and sports.”

“ What? I skateboard.”

“ I know it’s just-”

“ Yes?”

“ I don’t know.” Inuyasha sighed as he turned onto their street

Ever since school got out for the day Sango started to notice that Inuyasha wasn’t his normal self. He seemed very distracted and at first she thought is was because of Kagome but now she wasn’t so sure. Inuyasha turned the corner pulling their new silver BMW into the driveway that their new foster parents got them as a welcoming present, parked and got out of the car. As soon as Inuyasha stepped through the door and into the huge mansion he started on again about Sango and football.

“ I didn’t even know you played football.” he said as they walked into the kitchen putting their backpacks onto the table.

“ My first foster home, the parents were obsessed with it,” She began as she started to rummage through the cabinets.

“ Yeah and?”

“ And they taught me to play but I kept beating their sons which pissed off the dad so hence why I got shipped to another home.”

Inuyasha’s mouth dropped open as Sango threw him a bag of chips, she ignored his stare as she went over to the fridge to get something to drink.

“ Hold up,” he started “ They got rid of you because of something stupid like that?”

“ I know,” she said taking out two root beers “ But he was an assbag so I didn’t give a shit.”

Inuyasha opened his bag of chips as Sango sat across from him at the kitchen counter and slid him a root beer, he popped open his root beer just as Sango was opening her chips and took a long sip before speaking again.

“ So, have you actually ever played for a team?”

“ In middle school and early high school.”

“ And you stopped because?”

“ I got bored.”

“ Where you any good?”

“ Enough to catch hell from every boy in school.” She said with a grin.

Inuyasha shook his head “ She just loves to stir up trouble..”

He popped a chip in his mouth, licking the salty flavor from his lips as he contemplated what Sango was saying. He thought he knew almost everything about her, he was almost hurt that she kept that part of her from him. They were best friends, practically brother and sister, she was his real family, her and Kohaku, the only family he had since his parents died. Well, he had his brother Sesshomaru but he made it perfectly clear that he despised him so in Inuyasha’s mind he was no brother of his. After eating more chips and taking more swigs of root beer he decided to just ask her.

“ How come you never told me?”

“ I don’t know,” she said looking down into her root beer “ I guess you knew too much about me, I wanted to keep something a secret.”

Inuyasha looked at her in understanding knowing that it is weird to have a person who knows you so well inside and out. That was definitely the two of them, they had this strong connection to each other that a person couldn’t begin to fathom.

“ So, where’s Kohaku anyway?” he asked changing the subject “ I’m surprised he didn’t want a ride home.”

“ He made friends, so he’s coming home later.” She said stuffing more chips in her mouth.

“ I see,” he changing the subject yet again “ So, you think Minako will go for it?”

“ Minako will go for what?”

Sango looked up as Inuyasha turned around to see Minako standing in the kitchen doorway, dressed in plaid pajamas and bunny slippers. Minako was their foster mom and the whole reason why they were there in the first place. For some reason she just took them all in after hearing about them from the foster care center, she owned her own company and was one of the most powerful women in Japan. So, Sango and Inuyasha were more than a little surprised to see her home after not seeing her at all throughout the summer. Since she was always at work and they really hadn’t had much time to talk to her except when they had to beg her not to send them to a private school. She was in her mid forties, but she looked to be in her early thirties. She had black hair that stopped just before her shoulders, dark blue eyes, and a fair complexion. She seemed to be very stern and well-mannered but other than that they both didn’t know much about her and neither of them cared very much about it. Except for now because Sango needed parental permission to play football.

“ Well, which one of you are going to answer my question?” She asked walking past them both and going straight to the fridge.

“ Um, no disrespect Minako but what are you doing home?” Inuyasha asked.

“ Oh, didn’t I tell you?” she said pulling out a can of gingerale.

“ Tell us what?” they asked in unison.

“ Well, I only work at the office during the summer,” She began as she took a seat next to Inuyasha and opened her can of gingerale.

“ Huh?” they both said as Minako chuckled.

“ Well, I work at the office during the summer and work from home during the year, it’s a little backwards but it’s not like I’m on vacation, I just work from the comfort of my own home which does enable to have more time for my family.”

“ Oh, that’s cool I guess.” Inuyasha said finishing off his of chips.

“ So, are you going to answer my question or I’m I going to have to guess what it is that you want?”

“ Oh, our bad,” Sango started “ I want to try-out for the football team.”

“ Really?” she asked sounding surprised “ I never would’ve pegged you for a sports person.”

“ That’s what I said.” Inuyasha piped up after downing the rest of his soda.

“ Everyone is not always what they seem.” Sango stated simply.

“ Indeed,” Minako agreed taking another sip of her soda “ Well, I’ll have to fill out your medical forms, and made sure you’ve had a sports physical, and once you’ve made the team we’ll definitely have to get you some good equipment.”

“ You mean you have no problem with this?” Inuyasha asked suspiciously.

“ Why should I? She has the right to try-out for whatever sport she wants, besides even though I’ve only known Sango for a summer, she seems like the kind of girl who is not a afraid to go after what she wants and will do whatever means necessary to get there. So, who am I to stand in her way?”

Inuyasha eyed Minako as she got up, and drank down the rest of her soda. He was surprised she picked that up about Sango so fast she had pretty much described her to a tee. If Sango was freaked about she certainly wasn't letting it on because she instantly grabbed her bag and pulled out the forms without even being asked.

" She must really want to play..." Inuyasha thought while sighing rather loudly.

“ Here are the forms.” Sango said handing them to her

“ Thank you, I’ll fax these over tomorrow,” she said taking the forms from her then threw the can in recycling bin and began to walk out of the kitchen “ Well, I’ll talk to you kids later.”

“ Minako?” Sang asked standing up.

“ Yes Sango?” she asked turning her head.

“ I never would’ve guessed you to be the type to wear pink bunny slippers.” She said with a chuckle.

“ Well, it’s like you said Sango,” she started “ Things are not always what they seem.”

Minako smiled as she turned around and walked away and somehow without them knowing it they formed a small connection with their new foster mom one they never made with any of their foster parents before them and as Sango got up to throw out her empty chip bag she stopped and looked out the window at the huge houses and the ample amounts of land and then a thought entered her mind.

“ Hey Inu?”

“ Hmm?” He asked looking up at her

“ I think it’s time that you and I show this town what we’re really all about.”

“ And that is?” He asked smiling.

“ Everything that they’re not.”

“ Well, that sounds like a plan.”

Sango looked back at Inuyasha and smiled, Yakamoto High school had no idea what they were about to encounter and Inuyasha and Sango were more than ready to show them what they were capable of.
