Prison gates won't open up for me

On these hands and knees I'm crawlin
Oh, I reach for you
Well I'm terrified of these four walls
These iron bars can't hold my soul in
All I need is you
Come please I'm callin
And oh I scream for you

“ When you fall away is it really the end? Or will someone catch you?”

“ What kind of question is that?”

Sango lay with her back to the floor staring up at the ceiling in her room seemingly mesmerized by the faded shdes of purple. Ever since talking to Minako she felt very strange about the Kagome situation. Not strange about her coming to stay with them but strange in a sense where it made her think of her own parents and how sadness is a lot like drowning or falling because you always wait for someone to save you or catch you in mid-air. Then the more she thought about it the more she realized that whenever anything fell she always expected to hit the ground and shatter into a million pieces. She was alone until Inuyasha quietly slipped in and sat on her bed and unknown to Sango he was giving her weird looks as to why she was laying on the floor.

“ I don’t know,” she replied quietly “ Just thinking.”

Inuyasha raised an eyebrow at her as she continued to stare into space, the sudden change in mood was slightly unnerving but that was how Sango was, very unpredictable.

“ Do you like her?”

“ Who?” He asked automatically startled by the question.

“ Kagome.”

“ Sure,” He said without hesitation “ She’s actually pretty nice even though when we first met her she came off as a complete bitch.”

Sango titled her head back so she could see the look on Inuyasha’s face and she was right in assuming that he was attempting to be funny. Leaning her head back so she could stare at the faded ceiling again she sighed.

“ No,” she began “ I mean do you like her?”

Inuyasha sighed loudly as he slide off the bed and sat down next her letting his back rest against the end of the bed board, Sango’s head resting slightly by his feet as he leaned his head back and stared at the ceiling with her.

“ Truth or Lie?” he asked

“ Truth.”

“ I’m not sure.”

“ What do you mean?” She asked her eyes still transfixed to the surface far above where her head lay.

“ Just what I said,” He began “ I part of me likes her, and the other part of me is saying I only think I like her because I’m so desperate to fall in love again.”

“ Why would you want to through yourself into that again? You’ll just come out with another shattered heart.”

Inuyasha suddenly realized what he had just said to her and it then truly dawned on him that he was afraid to get his heart broken again but what scared him more was that he would never feel what it was like to be truly loved once more to have some care about him in a way that surpassed all others to the point where they would give their life to see him happy and he would do the same for them. But what really seemed to scare him more than that was how badly he really wanted it, and how the need became so powerful that he had to bury it deep inside and try to never let it resurface.

“ Because of the rush before the crash.”

“ Is it really worth it?”she asked glancing up at him.

Inuyasha glanced back down at her and gave a small smirk as he knew he’d never be able to bury it completely. He sighed slightly as he realized that maybe it wasn’t as bad as he thought.

“ I guess so.”

Sango offered him a small smile in which he returned but soon the moment was broken as they heard Kohaku calling them from downstairs. Shaking his head Inuyasha lifted himself up, offering a hand to Sango. Once they were both on their feet they walked out of her room and down the stairs in order to see what broke their moment of peace.

Hurry I’m fallin....

“ What’s up Kohaku?” Sango asked as they reached the bottom of the stairs only to have her question answered by peering into the face of Bankotsu.

“ Bank?” She asked giving him a quick hug. “ What are you doing here?”

“ I was around so I thought I’d stop by.”

Sango gave him a small smile as she showed him into the living room and just as Sango left the room the front door rang again causing Kohaku to raise an eyebrow as Inuyasha stepped forward to answer the door. As soon as the door swung open, Kohaku’s mouth dropped as there stood Miroku and Kakera.

“ Hey!” Kakera said from behind Miroku “ Am I late?”

“ Late for?” he asked having no idea what she was talking about.

“ Band pratice.” she said confused “ We do have a practice today, right?”

“ Yeah they do.” Kohaku piped up before Inuyasha could respond.

“ Great! So, where do I set up?”

“ Follow me.” Kohaku said as Kakera passed through the door to follow Kohaku to the music room.

“ Nice house.” she observed as they walked further into the home and out of Inuyasha and Miroku’s sight.

Once out of sight Inuyasha turned to Miroku and gave him sort of a strange look in which Miroku simply smiled.

“ Look, I need to talk to Sango.”

“ Why?”

“ I sort of upset her the other day and I wanted to apologize.”

“ Wait here.” he said half rolling his eyes as he turned around to yell something. “ Shippo!”

In a matter of seconds Shippo bolted down the stairs and to the front door looking very eager to help in anyway he could.

“ Umm..Yes?”

“ Watch him for me.” he instructed as he began to walk away from the front door.

“ Okay.” he responded as Miroku finally stepped through the front door and Shippo lead him to the kitchen while Inuyasha disappeared from sight. Just as Miroku sat down on one of the stools the doorbell rang once again causing Shippo to jump.

“ You okay kid?” Miroku asked

“ Fine.” he said nervously as he walked out of the kitchen and opened the door to find Ayame standing their with a rather solemn looking Kagome standing behind her carrying a rather large backpack.

“ Hi Shippo.” Ayame said simply as Kagome gave a small nod.

Suddenly, becoming panicked he did the first thing he could think of, and that was call for his mother.

“MOM!” he screamed as loud as he could only to her the sound of rushing footsteps a second later as Minako pounded down the stairs.

“ What’s wrong?” she asked as soon as she reached the front door.

“ People keep showing up and I don’t know what to do.”

“ Is this a bad time?” asked a voice from behind Ayame and Kagome.

They all turned to look at the tall green-eyed woman standing on the lawn behind them as Shippo blinked in panic.

“ See I told you.”

“ Alright,” Minako started “ Where’s Sango and Inuyasha?”

“ I’m right here.” Said Sango suddenly walking up behind them.

“ Okay?” she began “ Now, you are Kagome?”

Kagome nodded shyly as she turned her attention towards Ayame.

“ And you are here for?”

“ Band practice and to drop off Kags.”

“ Okay, Shippo show her to the music room.”

“ Okay,” Shippo said as Ayame walked the through the door following Shippo into the house.

“ And I’m assuming you’re here to see Inuyasha?”

“ Who’s here to see me?” Inuyasha asked looking over everyone to see Kagome and Jaylynn standing in the doorway.

“ I just need a quick word with him.”

“ Okay, Inuyasha go see what she wants, Kagome follow me please, and Sango go deal with whoever else is here.”

Sango raised her eyebrows at Inuyasha as Kagome stepped through the door exchanging a quick look with Inuyasha before following Minako into her house and up the stairs. Sango then gave Inuyasha a look as she glanced past him to see Jaylynn but he just smiled.

“ I got this,” he started “ Just go.”

Inuyasha stepped outside only to have Sango shut the door behind, leaving him and Jaylynn alone.

“ Let’s walk.” She said as Inuyasha descended the steps and followed Jaylynn into the yard.

Show me what it's like
To be the last one standing
And teach me wrong from right
And I'll show you what I can be
Say it for me
Say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me

“ What’s up Jay?”

“ I just wanted to let you know that you don’t have to worry about Sesshomaru anymore, I took care of it.”

“ You did?” he asked

Inuyasha was surprised that their plan had actually worked but at the same time something wasn’t right. Jaylynn didn’t seem like herself, she seemed sad.

“ Is that all?” he found himself asking.

“ No, it’s not.” she said taking a deep breath. “ I’m leaving.”

“ What? Why?” he asked stopping in his tracks. “ Did something happen?”

“ No, at least not anything serious.”

“ Then why are you leaving?”

Jaylynn looked straight into Inuyasha’s eyes and she could feel her heart breaking. She really didn’t want to leave but it felt to her like she had no other options. She started to walk again but she could feel his eyes boring into her back as she heard the footsteps behind her and just as they reached her car, she stopped and leaned on the hood, staring off into the sunset.

“ Are you going to tell me why you’re leaving or do I have to guess?”

“ There are three kinds of people in this world Inuyasha,” she began her eyes never leaving the deep red hues of the setting sun. “ Ones who have everything, ones who have nothing, and those in between.”

Inuyasha stood silently staring at the woman before him, the one he had known since he was a child. The woman who always oozed self-confidence and always knew what she wanted to do and went for it without hesitation. She was always prepared for anything and never looked panicked or afraid but the woman now standing before him looked more like a little girl. One who was confused, and lost almost to the point of looking hopeless. One thing he always admired about Jaylynn was that she always braved her fears, she’d always admit to being afraid of something but never looked scared and faced whatever it was head on but now it was like she had a bigger fear, one that scared her to the point of running and it was truly scaring Inuyasha that the often noble, strong, woman he once knew looked like her world was falling a part and instead of fighting to hang onto it she was letting herself fall away ready to embrace the impact.

“ For those who have everything they think nothing can touch them and they can do anything they want without consequence.” she said pausing before continuing again “ You have to let those people know that there is consequence to every action and pain for every fall by taking something from them so they will have nothing.”

“ Jay,” Inuyasha began “ That doesn’t make much sense, if you only take away one thing they’ll still have everything else.”

“ That’s true,” She said with a sad smile “ But not if that one thing is their everything.”

Suddenly, it was like all the puzzles pieces fell into place as Inuyasha stood there unsure of what to say next feeling as if their was nothing he could say and as if she knew he figured out why, she continued.

“ I want the one who has everything to know what it feels like to be hated by someone you love and to always know that they’ll probably never love you back.”

“ So, this is about Sesshomaru?”

“ No,” She said shaking her head “ It’s about you and me.”

“ Me?” he asked

“ I’ve wronged you Inuyasha and for that I am truly sorry,” she started tears threatening to take hold of her. “ But I want him to feel the way you did when he treated you so cruelly and it’s about me moving on and letting go of the little boy I knew long ago and to realized that he’s been replaced by a man whose heart will always be frozen solid.”

“ Jay,” he started only wanting to say one thing. “ Don’t leave.”

“ It’ll be fine,” she said, “ The place I’m going is in the same city where you want to go to college. So, how about once you and Sango pass your entrance exams, I set you both up with a apartment in my complex so I can have the chance to be the big sister you truly deserve.”

“ Jay, you are the best big sister anyone could ever want already.”

“ That’s sweet Inuyasha but you don’t have to lie.” She started, “ I’ll call you once I have everything set up.”

“ Okay.” he said quietly

“ Don’t look so sad,” She said sliding off her hood and pulling him into a hug. “ I’ll give you my new number and address once I get up there so make sure when you get it to call and visit as much as possible.”

“ Okay,” he whispered wrapping his arms around her, “ Only if you promise to do the same.”

“ I will.”

“ Bye JayJay.”

“ Bye Inu-chan,” she whispered back, “ Don’t worry little guy, I’ll be your big sister.”

Inuyasha smiled as she repeated the words she said to him when Sesshomaru told him he wished he was never born as well as saying that he wasn’t his brother. Jaylynn went straight up to him after Sesshomaru told him that and said those exact words.

“ Really? Even though he hates me.” he answered repeating the words he said back to her.

“ Of course, because every little boy needs a cool big sister.”

Jaylynn pulled back and smiled at him before pulling away completely and walking over to the drivers seat of the car.

“ So, are you leaving tonight?”

“ I’m afraid so,” She said as she slid into the drivers seat and shut the door. “ I know it’s extremely sudden but I have people who help when this sort of thing happens.”

Jaylyynn started up the car and just as she was ready to pull off, Inuyasha walked over to the passenger’s side and held on to the door.

“ Jay?”

“ One last goodbye?” She asked with a small grin.

“ Do you love him too?”

Suddenly, it was like all the color drained from her face as she looked forward staring at the road in front of her.

“ I don’t know,” she said simply, “ All I do know is the person I love is not him. It just can’t be him.”

Finally, as if a dam had opened the tears that she was holding back for so long streamed down her face. They were silent but Inuyasha could see how much pain she was in. He hated to see women cry, and wished their was something he could do.

“ Jay I -”

“ Bye Inu,” She said cutting him off. “ Be good okay.”

Then without warning the car door slipped past his hands as she drove off down the drive way and out of sight with Inuyasha watching even after she disappeared.

“ Take care Jaylynn.” he whispered into the wind still staring as the sun dipped behind the horizon.

Say it if it's worth saving me ....

“ Please sit down, Kagome,” Minako said as soon as she was seated behind her desk in her office.

Kagome took a seat on one the chairs placed at the front of her desk took a breath. She had no idea Sango had told Mrs. Narita about what she had done and she was afraid that she would send her home. Kagome had done a lot of things lately that were pretty bold but once she makes her decision she sticks with it.

“ Now, I understand you have ran away from home?”

“ Yes,” she answered nervously and before Mrs. Narita could respond she practically shouted “ But please don’t send me home, Mrs. Narita!”

“ First of all,” She began putting her hand up to silence Kagome “ Call me Minako okay? And secondly no one is sending you home.”

“ Then why- ”

“ Just relax and listen okay?” She asked trying to calm the girl.

Kagome nodded silently as she prepared herself for what Minako was about to say.

“ I will have to call your mother so that she knows your safe then maybe she can come by and work out whatever problems you are having.”

“ But -”

“ If not,” She started again “ Then you are welcome to stay here as long as you like until you both work it out. Sound good?”

“ How did you even know the problem was my mother?”

“ Teenagers always having problems with their parents no matter how big or small.”

“ She’ll never listen to me.” she said sourly sitting back in her seat.

“ Okay, then how about I listen to you.”

“ Huh?” she asked confused

“ You tell me what the problem is then maybe once she gets here I can maybe mediate if you want.”

Kagome looked up at the woman sitting before her and sighed. She didn’t know Minako too well but she seemed like a very nice mom to have and so figuring she had nothing left to lose she agreed. She did want her mother listen and maybe this was the way to get her heard and if not then her other option didn’t look that bad at all.

“ Okay,” she began “ It all started with this argument......”

Heaven's gates won't open up for me
With these broken wings I'm fallin

And all I see is you
These city walls ain't got no love for me
I'm on the ledge of the eighteenth story
And oh I scream for you
Come please I'm callin
And all I need from you

Sango entered the kitchen to find Miroku sitting at the counter. She actually found herself glad that he was here. The way she yelled at him before was bothering her a little and she figured she might as well apologize because in the end he still was a good guy.

“ So, resorting to stalking now are we?”

Miroku turned around and smiled as Sango took a seat on the stool across from him.

“ Hey, sorry about dropping in like this. I just really wanted to talk to you.

“ It’s cool,” She answered “ I’m glad you did actually.”

“ Really?” He asked, surprised.

“Yeah.” she said figuring she better just get it over with. “ I have a pretty bad temper so sorry about basically chewing your head off. It was unnecessary.”

Miroku looked across at the girl in front of him and wondered what happened to her in that short amount of time that made her change her tune so quickly.

“ You gonna say something or what?”

“ Yeah, it’s just I didn’t expected that.”

“ Yeah well,” She started, “ Neither did I.”

For a brief moment Sango and Miroku stared at each other, a tiny smile playing across their lips before Sango turned away to stare out the window.

“ So, what did you want?”

“ To apologize as well,” He began. “ I started to feel bad about the whole thing and maybe I shouldn’t have said what I did.”

“You know what?” Sango said spinning around to face him. “ Let’s just forget it ever happened.”

“ Really?” He asked, surprised once more.

“ Yeah, it’s just an argument, a stupid one at that,” she said suddenly staring off into space. “ There are worse things and I’ll it admit it would suck to lose a friend because of it.”

Hurry I'm fallin....

“ Hey, are you okay?” he found himself asking.

“ Yeah, I’m fine why?”

Miroku stared once again at the girl in front of him and the girl he saw looked tired, like a after you’ve run a long race and all you want to do is rest and forget about everything else while you gather your strength back. That’s what it looked like to him, it looked like she was out of strength.

“ You just seem out of it.”

“ Yeah, well I’ve been thinking about a lot of stuff.”

“ Mind if I ask what?”

Sango turned around on her stool and leaned her elbows on the counter and stared at the ceiling like she did when she was in her room. Only instead of seeing shades of purple she saw just white and began thinking once again only this time it was about what Miroku said when they had their argument.

“ You know I think you were right.”

“ About what?”

“ Me being afraid.”

Suddenly, Miroku found himself being shocked into silence, he couldn’t think or speak because he just couldn’t believe the words that were coming out of her mouth.

“ That has to be it,” she started now talking to herself more than Miroku,“ Why I go to into relationships that I know will never last too long. I don’t want to feel what I saw that day.”

“ Feel what?” he asked now more concerned than anything “ What day?”

“ That day when Inuyasha tried to -”

“ Tried to what?”

“ Never mind,” she said glad she caught herself before she relived that day again already seeing flashbacks of the park and the gun in his hand.

“ Sango?”

“ Nothing,” she said quickly spinning around on her stool. “ Just forget it.”

“ Hey,” Miroku said laying his hand over hers. “ It doesn’t matter we can always be friends no matter what.”

Sango searched his eyes closely as she let him lay his hand over hers and what she saw wasn’t a lie, he was truly being genuine but what else she saw was the same look Inuyasha used to give Kikyo and for once she felt truly awful for not believing what he had said.

“ You love me don’t you?”

Miroku looked at her no longer taken aback by the things she said because she could see things that he didn’t even admit to himself before now and now that she had asked him, he knew that he did and had always from the beginning.

“ Yes, I do.”

“ And you would still just be my friend?”

“ I will take whatever you can give me.”

“ Sorry, I can’t give you much right now.”

“ It’s Okay,” he said staring straight into her eyes as he took her hands and held them both tightly. “ I’ll wait for you.”

“ You don’t have to.”

“ I know,” he started, “ I thought if I came over here and talked to you and if you really didn’t return my feelings I’d move on but now I know you do have feelings for me. It may not be love but it’s something. And I’ll wait for when your ready.”

“ Gods, you’re fucking crazy Kobayashi.”

“ Maybe.” he said with a smile.

“ What exactly do you see in me anyway?” She asked looking straight back into his eyes.

“ Everything.”

Miroku looked at her a moment longer before leaning in a kissing top of her hands which sent a pain through Sango’s heart because she knew that she was truly hurting him. She didn’t know what was happening to her but all she knew was she didn’t want to feel what she saw, what had happened that day changed her, she saw so much in his eyes the day Inuyasha tried to kill himself because of love and what she saw could rip anyone’s soul a part and how Inuyasha still went on and would still be willing to love again was amazing, where she couldn’t bring herself to do it once.

Show me what it's like
To be the last one standing
And teach me wrong from right
And I'll show you what I can be
Say it for me
Say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me

“ Hey, you sure you’re alright?” he asked seeing the pain in her eyes as he stroked the top of her hands with his thumb.

“ Hey Sango what’s taking so -”

Sango instantly pulled her hands away from Miroku and looked at Bankotsu standing in the doorway with a now angry and crazy jealous look on his face.

“ Didn’t mean to interrupt.” He said coldly

“ Hey, it wasn’t like that.” Sango said standing up.

“ Whatever Sango, I saw what I saw.”

“ Look, it really wasn’t -”

“ Did I fucking ask for you to speak?” He snapped at Miroku before turning to Sango once again.

“ Hey, don’t yell at him he didn’t do anything.”

“ Whatever bitch.”

“ You may be pissed but don’t you ever call me a bitch again or I’ll punch your fucking face in.” She said stepping closer.

“ Like, you didn’t already do that.” he said turning and walking out of the kitchen.

“ Gods Damn it! Bankotsu!” She screamed running after him.

“ Why don’t you go hang with your new boyfriend.” he responded walking towards the door just as Inuyasha entered the house.

“ Whoa, what’s going on?” He asked

“ I got upset about something and he was comforting me. That’s it!”

“ You must really think I’m an idiot Sango.”

“ What?”

Bankotsu stepped closer to her and looked straight at her just as they heard the sound of pounding footsteps coming from different directions as he shook his head.

“ I only had to be in their one second to see the way you both were looking at each other. It was more than what you just said so don’t give me that bullshit!”

“ You know what if you want to leave then leave. I’ll be damned before I sit hear and try to beg you to stay.”

Bankotsu sighed and shook his head once more and he turned and walked towards the front door, and once he had his hand on the knob he paused.

“ I really did like you, you know.” he said turning the knob and opening the door “ I still do.”

Once Bankotsu shut the door behind him Sango turned around to see the band members, Minako, Kagome, Kohaku, Shippo, and Miroku.

“ Sango -” Minako began.

“ I’m fine.” she said before turning and running up the stairs.

“ Kohaku, you mind taking over band practice for today?”

“ Okay, Inuyasha,” he responded

“ Is she okay?” asked Ayame

“ She’ll be fine,” Inuyasha responded before heading towards the steps.

“ Let’s go back to the music room.” Kohaku said motioning the band back down the hallway.

“ I’m going to go,” Miroku started “ Tell Sango I said bye.”

“ Of course,” Minako answered as Miroku turned and walked out the front door.

“ Well, we better go make that call then,” Minako said leading Kagome into the kitchen.

“ Will Sango be alright?” She couldn’t help but ask.

“ She has Inuyasha so I know she’ll be fine.”

Kagome looked behind her towards the stairs wondering if that was really true before disappearing into kitchen.

Say it if it's worth saving me.....

Inuyasha entered Sango’s room to find her in the same position she was eariler, on the floor and staring at the ceiling once again. This time instead of leaning in the back board he closed the door and laid on the floor next to her. His black hair fanning out beneath him mixing with her dark brown.

“ So, what’s up?” he asked her quietly

“ Miroku’s in love with me and you?”

“ Jaylynn’s gone.”

“ Where’d she go?”

“ To the city where we want to go to college.”

“ Mean’s you’ll see her again.”

“ What did you say when he said he loved you?”

“ I’m the one who asked him if he did,” she answered “ But he said he’d wait for me.”

“ I knew you liked him.”

“ I know you did,” she responded “ Why did she leave?”

“ So, that the man who had everything will have nothing.”

“ She really does care about you, you know.”

“ I know,” he started, “ And you shouldn’t be afraid to love just because of what happened to me.”

“ How did you guess?”

“ I know you.”

“ Better than I know myself.” She said pausing “ You’re going to go confront Sesshomaru aren’t you?”

“ How did you guess?”

“ I know you.”

“ Better than I know myself.”

Inuyasha glanced over at Sango who glanced back at him, before turning to look at the ceiling once more. After everything that had happened with them they were always their for each other and they thought that maybe they’d already seen the worst of it. But their was always more, hiding from view.

“ Let’s just stay here.” Sango said “ I like sleeping on the floor anyway.”

“ Okay,” he responded “ I don’t feel like moving anyway.”

The two of them stayed like that, a world of thoughts in their heads and a world of feelings in their hearts. They could feel themselves being weighed down by everything and it was only a matter of time before night completely covered the outside sky and sleep took them into their inevitable dreamland.
