InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ High School Diary ❯ Into the Hurricane ( Chapter 20 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
A/N: Okay...I just want to get this out of the way.. the only reason I incorparted that whole demon thing into the story like I did was to explain why Sess has silver hair cause normal people don't have silver hair...plus, I really really didn't want to change his hair color...I like Sess the way he is, besides it could explain uncontrolable rages and such but perhaps it was a bit unnessacary...Aw, well what's done is done and it's all good!! XD!! Oh, and btw, whatever I do not know I make-up so if you see things in the fic that wouldn't be true if applied to real life just ignore it...It is fiction after all and it's true in my own little world!! XDD!! Okay.. now that that's out of the way...I decided to go in a bit of a different direction with this chappie so expect the unexpected...Sorta. Kinda. lol...te he he he...

Props again to my beta reader Vagabond...Another great job well done! : )

Well, I'm sure you all don't wanna hear me ramble all day...lol...Enjoy!

Chapter 20: Into the Hurricane

“So, what are our options?” Sango asked.

“I say you should tell mom about it.” Shippo piped up, “I mean don’t you think Kagome’s mom would be worried about her?”

Sango stared at Shippo from across the counter as he sat with his orange juice in his hand and gave a little sigh. It was a typical weekend morning at their house, Inuyasha and Sango normally sat at the counter top eating cereal where as Kohaku joined them later on in the morning. But this morning they were joined by Shippo and were pleasantly surprised. After filling Inuyasha in on the details of her talk with Kagome, she thought he was going to have more of a reaction than him just staring at her wide eyed. She really thought he was going to yell or basically freak. But he didn’t, and after realizing that Shippo half overheard their conversation anyway when they did get home they just decided to fill him in on the whole thing, and after that Shippo just seemed to naturally fit into things with them. He was still a little shy but Sango was sure that all he had to do was hang out with Kohaku a little longer and he would surely be cured of that.

“I agree actually.” Sango said suddenly.

Inuyasha blinked at her like he couldn’t believe the words that were coming out of her mouth, which Sango thought was awfully annoying considering he hadn’t put much thought into the situation at all and just sat silently, chewing his cereal and staring out the kitchen window.

“So, then what are you going to do?”

“I don’t know,” Sango said with a sigh “This would be a whole lot easier if Inuyasha would tell me what he thinks.”

“Whatever you want to do is fine.” he said quietly

Sango rolled her eyes and decided that she for once was going to do the responsible thing and look at things more rationally. Besides, she had run away once so she knew how it felt. Even though she wasn’t too fond of Kagome, she couldn’t just not help her when she needed it and as much as she hated to admit it, the girl was growing on her. Now, if only she could make sure that her and Inuyasha didn’t get serious or anything. She knew she was being a bit overprotective of him but she couldn’t help it. After seeing what a mess he was after what happened with Kikyo, she swore to herself she’d never let that happened to him ever again if she could help it.

“Alright,” Sango began, “Here’s the game plan...”

Inuyasha continued to stare out the window half-listening to what Sango was saying. After Sango told him about Kagome, he found himself not being so concerned about the fact that she might be staying in his home for a while or that she may discover secrets from his past but more about her. He worried about what was really going on with Kagome, he remembered when Sango ran away from her foster home and how that turned out and couldn’t help but worry. Kagome was his friend after all and he wondered more so about what had happened to make her do something like that so suddenly. It perplexed him to no end, and as he took another bite of his cereal he finally completely focused in on what Sango was saying.

“At least this way whatever is going on would get fixed.”

“Are you sure that’s going to work?” Shippo asked “I mean... How do you know that the problem is her mother?”

“Why else would she run away?” Sango asked “ I remember when I called her out on her something and she yelled about how her mother isn’t always home and what-not. So, if we let her stay over, talk to Minako about the situation then maybe she can intervene. Minako is a little strange but she’s respected.”

“Interesting.” Inuyasha said suddenly

“Oh, look who finally decided to speak.” she said sarcastically “So, what pray tell is so interesting?”

“How your handling this,” Inuyasha began, “It seems actually logical and mature.”

“And that’s so hard to believe?”

“I guess not.” he said with a grin as he went back to his cereal.

“Whatever.” she said as she got up from her stool “Look, I’m going to go talk to Minako about it then call Kags. Hopefully, nothing went wrong since yesterday or her mom called the cops or something.”

“How long has she been gone from her home?” Shippo asked as she began to exit the kitchen.

“Dunno,” she answered as she disappeared from sight just as Kohaku entered the kitchen.

Kohaku took one look around and knew something wasn’t right. Inuyasha was oddly quiet, Shippo was at the breakfast counter, and not to mention Sango’s early departure. Kohaku hated being kept in the dark more than anything which made only one question spring to his mind.

“Okay, what’s going on?”

Kagome sat on the sofa in Ayame’s basement watching televison, even though her basement resembled more of a game room she assured her that her grandfather never went down there and she would be fine. But somehow Kagome doubted that, all she could think of was when Sango would call her or if her mother found out she ran away and called the police. She still went to school so if her mother had called the police they most likely would have found her by now. But the more Kagome thought about it the more she felt a throbbing pain form between her temples. She didn’t know what she was doing anymore or why she was doing them. All she knew was that her mind either starting listening to her heart or she obviously was mentally unstable. At the point she was now she was more convinced that she was crazy. Even more so when she found herself being more concerned about staying in the same house as Inuyasha rather than what was she going to do if Sango didn’t let her stay or if her mother found her. She kept trying to tell her herself that the fact that she might be staying with Inuyasha wasn’t important right now but her mind wouldn’t hear of it and that thought just stuck with her and every time she thought about it the more she wondered about why Sango and him were living together. It didn’t make much sense unless they were adopted but she couldn’t be sure.

Trying yet again to push those thoughts from her head she made yet another mental note to find some way to thank Ayame. She had been so kind and helpful to her that she was almost floored when Ayame practically went out of her way to make sure she was hidden and well taken care of. Shutting off the tv, she lied back on the sofa and closed her eyes wondering when her bizarre nightmare was going to end and just when she thought it was a dream she heard the faint buzzing of her cell phone and as she reached over to the coffee table to grab it, she flipped open the phone and pressed it to her ear.

“Hello?” she said into the phone with a tired sigh.

“Kags?” the voice asked “It’s Sango.”

~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~

Sesshom aru sat with his hands folded staring at the green-eyed lawyer sitting across from him. He was severely annoyed at the woman of whom he had known all his life. He had work to do and didn’t have time for anymore of her games.

“The deal is off.”

“Excuse me?” he said his eyes narrowing into slits.

“You heard me,” she said “Inuyasha turns eighteen in a couple of months. I’m sure you and Rin will me fine until then.”

Jaylynn rose from her seat ready to walk out the door and leave it at that when all of a sudden Sesshomaru was standing in front of her, anger clearly visible in his eyes.

“I tire of your games,” he said with a tone Jaylynn had never heard him use before. “We have a contract. We have a deal, you cannot back out now.”

Jaylynn rolled her eyes as she stared down the silver haired man in front of her. She had know him all her life but she still never understood why he always insisted on trying to in intimidate her. It never worked on when they were children so it was totally lost on her as why he thought it would work now.

“Intimidation tactics are useless on me,” she said in a low voice. “You, of all people should know that by now.”

“You are really an interesting woman Jaylynn.” he began, “Tell me why you think you can get out of this.”

Silently, Jaylynn motioned for Sesshomaru to sit back down. He stared at her before cracking a small grin that actually made a chill run down her spine before he went and settled into his chair. Noticing he thought that he had won she reached into her briefcase and threw the contract on the desk.

“If you notice,” she began as he picked up the contract from the table. “That this contract is not valid. It doesn’t even make sense, there is basically ten pages of nothing written on there.”

Sesshomaru’s eyes widened as he realized that she was corrected, there was basically nothing in the contract that had to do with their agreement. His eyes narrowed into slits once again as her silently fumed, wanting nothing more than to make her pay.

“You were so distracted by the news that you signed nothing without even realizing it.” she continued, “And Inuyasha wasn’t even aware of the fact that he didn’t even have to take part in it since he didn’t sign anything. I thought what I was doing could help but it only hurt. I’m done getting involved.”

Sesshomaru almost instantly snapped out of his rage as he dropped the so-called contract back onto the table raising an eyebrow at Jaylynn’s words.

“Involved?” he asked in the low monotone voice he was famous for. “Involved in what? Betraying me?”

Her green eyes snapped up to look Sesshomaru dead in the face, all she did was to try to help but it kept blowing up in her face again and again.

“I didn’t betray you,” she began, “If anything it feels like I’ve betrayed Inuyasha.”

“You shouldn’t concern yourself with that whelp.” He said suddenly full of anger once more.

“You’ll never change will you?” she began “I did this to try and get you both to spend time together. I thought at least this way I could try and keep my promise. To heal your unjustified hatred toward a boy who did nothing but be born upon this earth!”

Sesshomaru stared at the woman standing before him and for once in his life, he said nothing to such an outburst. They had a strange relationship but it worked for the two of them. They had a friendship of sorts but mostly it was a connection. One that made it difficult to leave from the other’s life. Jaylynn had tried once as did Sesshomaru but in the end they both knew once you let someone enter your life, they never truly exit it.

“I hate myself now!” she practically screamed “He doesn’t deserve it! He never did! I don’t see why he should suffer because of your petty and immature reasons!”

Calming herself down she stared into his hazel eyes, she could feel the blood coursing through her veins, feeling a newfound anger and rage that she wish she didn’t have to control because she wanted nothing more than to tear into the man sitting before her.

“I’ve probably fucked him up even more than he already is. The thing I never understood is how someone can hate their own flesh and blood. Tell me Sesshomaru, how do you hate someone you don’t even know?”

“I don’t have to explain myself to you.” He said automatically, sticking to his icy demeanor.

Jaylynn shook her head, and sighed loudly. She didn’t know why she kept trying with him. She was trying to bring back the little boy she befriended long ago. But now she finally realized that he had died long ago and was never coming back.

“Your mother was such a beautiful soul,” she began, “She would be heartbroken to see that your heart has turned to ice.”

In one quick motion Sesshomaru was up on his feet once more feeling nothing but pure rage at her words. He growled low in his throat and glared at her with menacing eyes wanting nothing more that to rip her to shreds.

“Don’t you dare speak of my mother.”

Jaylynn’s eyes hardened as she stared at him, wishing that for once things could be easy.

“Someone has to.” she said quietly as she turned to walk out of his office.

Just as she reached the door she looked at him once more and noticed the look on his face morphed to an expression she didn’t recognize.

“What I did was stupid and now I’m done with this. As well as being done with you.” she started “Have a nice life, Sesshomaru.”

With a heavy heart Jaylynn walked out of his home office and out to her car. All she had to do was tell Inuyasha and everything would be finally over. Now that she decided to cut Sesshomaru out of her life for good she thought that things might get easier, but she knew she was lying to herself. In despite of everything he was a life long friend to her, even she never understood their unusual friendship. But she knew it was high time she just stop interfering, she had failed in being a big sister to Inuyasha and she truly wanted to make that up to him. He didn’t deserve the hell that always found him, if anything Sesshomaru did. Sighing, she stepped out into the sun as she reached into her pocket to retrieve her keys. Once she found her keys, she went to unlock her car door when suddenly she felt a hand reach out and stop her. Glancing up, her mouth almost dropped open as she saw Sesshomaru standing next to her. She dropped her hand, and spun around to face him, dropping her keys in the process.

“What?” she asked ignoring the dropped keys.

“Don’t leave.”

“Why?”

“I have my reasons.”

“Then tell me.”

“Very well,” he said with a an almost tired look on his face. “I don’t want you to.”

“Why not?”

“You will not make this easy for me will you?”

“Nothing in life is easy Sesshomaru, and I’m sure as hell not!”

“No one implied that you were.”

“You’re dodging the question,” she said glaring daggers into him. “Why should I stay? Why should I continue to help you? Why should I bother to be a part of your life any longer? Why should I continue to let you to scar your little brother? Tell me why!?!”

“ Perhaps my reason isn’t worthy of your time.”

“Are you being sarcastic?”

“No.”

“Stop fucking around Sesshomaru!” she yelled “ Just say what you feel for once if you can even feel anymore! I watched you morph from my best friend to someone I don’t even know! I never understood why you took in Rin and you didn’t even bother to tell me why! I never got how you can abandon your brother yet take in some random girl like that! Not that Rin didn’t deserve a great place to live but still! You don’t need me around anymore, this isn’t a friendship. I don’t even know what is it. I’m not sticking around so you can use me again especially if it’s to hurt your brother. I don’t get why I even bothered to be a friend to you for as long as I did, or why you even needed me. We’ve been down this path before but this time when I exit your life it will be for good.”

Sesshomaru couldn’t help but wince inwardly at her words, he didn’t understand himself why he kept her as a friend as long as he did or why he entrusted her with ceratin things that he would never entrust to anyone else until he saw that she was serious about walking out of his life that’s when the walls came down.

“I would never use you.” he said in a tone that practically startled Jaylynn.

“How do I know that’s the truth?”

“I apologize.” he said suddenly

“What?” she asked not sure if she heard right.

“I apologize,” he began as the ice began to melt around his heart. “Perhaps we can fix this. I’d rather not abandon an almost twenty year friendship.”

“You still haven’t given me a good enough reason,” she began, “Although, I do appreciate the apology. I just have to admit to myself that all I was trying to do was bring back the little boy I once knew but he’s dead and it’s about high time I learn to accept that.”

Picking up her keys, she opened her door and jumped in the car, the top was already down as she started her engine, Sesshomaru suddenly couldn’t take it anymore. Something inside of him was crying for her not to leave, he wanted to just ignore it but it was almost to the point of being painful.

“Jaylynn,” he said stepping in front of the car. “Don’t leave.”

Suddenly, getting extremely irritated she got out the car, slamming the door behind her and marched up to him her blood boiling in her veins then before she could even stop herself she pulled back her arm and punched him square in the face. She managed to get her anger under control just in time to lighten the blow so that all Sesshomaru did was stagger backwards a little, his head turned to the right before turning back to look at her.

“Stop fucking with me Sesshomaru!” she yelled only inches away from him. “Why the fuck won’t you let me leave!”

He stared at her with emotionless eyes, seemingly unaffected by the punch as he muttered the last words Jaylynn thought she’d ever hear from the man she dubbed as the ice prince.

“Because, I love you.”

~~*~~*~~*~~*~~

Miroku stared at the sky as the last argument with Sango played in his mind. He didn’t want her to hate him. If he could just fix the friendship he screwed up then maybe that would be okay. He didn’t know why the girl was getting to him like she did but he couldn’t help but think about it. He was sitting on the sidewalk outside the coffee shop, and sighed again for the fifth time that day. He broke up with Yura but she was okay about them being just friends, she was actually strangely nice about it, even though he knew he deserved a slap in the face for using her like that. All he wanted to do right now was make things right with Sango, after that whatever would happen would happen and he’d just have to accept that. He also rather missed hanging out with Inuyasha, Kagome, and Ayame. The people he dubbed his gang, even though him and Kagome had been friends for the longest time since her little brother was best friends with his younger sister. He hoped he could just fix everything so things could go back to how they used to be. He’d just have to put his feelings for Sango aside and just try to get over her. He wished he could do something now so he wouldn’t have to worry anymore but he didn’t even know where Sango lived. He would call her but he really wanted to speak with her in person. Just as he was about to get up and actually get a coffee, hoping at least the caffeine would drown his worries, a face appeared above him.

“You Miroku?”

“Yeah,” he asked as he stared up at the girl. “Do I know you?”

“Sorry,” she said with a laugh “My name is Kakera and I’m suppose to go to Sango’s house for band practice. I saw you guys hanging around sometimes so I was wondering if you could help me find her place.”

“Oh,” he began “Wish I could help you but I don’t know where she lives.”

“Damn,” she muttered “Well, do you at least know where this address is.”

Kakera handed him the address Sango hand given her and a huge smile graced his face.

“Yeah, I know where this is,” he began “You have your car with you?”

“Yeah, why?”

“So do I,” he started, “So, how about I just show you the way?”

“Meaning, I follow you?”

“Yeah, I need to talk to Sango myself anyway.”

“Cool,” she started, “Thanks.”

“No problem.”

Miroku smiled as he pointed out his car to Kakera as she got in her car and pulled up beside his. He got in his car he couldn’t help but thank the gods at his luck as he drove off, determination flowing through him as he lead the lost band member to Sango’s house.
