DISCLAIMER: I'll make this short and sweet. 'Inuyasha' and all characters involved belong to Rumiko Takahashi and not to me. Any questions? No? Good, now on with the story.

This story has been posted before, under the same name. I was forced to remove it, due to complaints, but as you can see it is now rewritten and reposted, and hopefully I will not have the same problems with this version. For those of you who read my original version, this one has seen some changes in parts, and while the main plot of the story is unchanged I would still recommend rereading the entire story to avoid being confused. (This will be the last time you see this message)

CHAPTER 7

Kagome was having the most wonderful dream of her entire life. She dreamed that Inuyasha had told her that he was in love with her, before taking her to his bed for what had to have been the greatest night of her life, where she finally fell asleep in his arms. The dream was so real, and so wonderful, that it was like she could still feel his arms around her. She didn't want to awaken and return to reality, but of course no dream could last forever and despite her best efforts Kagome found herself creeping slowly back toward the world of the living.

As Kagome groggily woke up, at first she was so upset that her dream was over that she failed to notice what was different this morning. However, as her sleepy and depressed brain started to wake up, she realised things. Like how she was lying on something soft and extremely comfortable, very different from the hard wooden cot she usually slept on. And how the blanket she was lying under was much softer and smoother than the modest sheet she used. Finally, she realised the thing that was most different this morning when compared to every other morning she had woken up to since arriving at Inuyasha's temple; the strong yet gentle arms circling around her that were lovingly holding her back against a well chiselled chest.

Kagome felt her heart skip a beat before starting up again and beating so wildly she was sure it was about to burst right out of her chest. Barely daring to believe that her dream was real, Kagome slowly rolled herself over to see just who it was that was holding her so tenderly. When she saw the face of her beloved Inuyasha smiling down at her, she wondered for a moment whether she was still dreaming.

Inuyasha had woken up quite some time before Kagome, as being a God meant he needed far less sleep than she did. It was still some time until sunrise, and the rest of the temple wouldn't be up for a while yet. Like her, when he first woke up he at first feared that last night had been but a wonderful dream. This fear was quickly eradicated however, when the first thing he smelt was Kagome's beautiful scent and the first thing he saw when he opened his eyes was the back of her head and her long raven hair as she lay in the circle of his arms, pressed up against his chest. Once it had sunk in that this was all real, Inuyasha had simply smiled and pulled her gently closer to him. While part of him wanted to wake her up and have a replay of last night's activities, he knew that she, being human, would need her sleep and he didn't want to have to wake her. Besides, he knew that since last night had been her first time she might very well be sore right now and he wanted to give her enough time to recover. For now, he would be content just holding his love and watching her sleep as he basked in the knowledge of what the two now shared.

Inuyasha just couldn't get over everything that had happened the night before. It wasn't what Kagome and he had done together, although he certainly wasn't going to complain about that. No, what really set his head spinning was that she apparently loved him as much as he did her and had for quite some time now. It was almost unbelievable. He wanted to kick himself when he realised just how much time he had wasted by not telling her how he felt sooner. To think, all this time they could have been together, if only he hadn't been too afraid to speak to her about his feelings. He certainly didn't blame her for not speaking up; he could well understand how she would be afraid to let him know how she felt. He was her God and she was his priestess, that he had to admit would be a very big barrier in many circumstances. Hell, if his elder brother had a priestess who claimed to be in love with him, he didn't even want to think about how Sesshomaru would react. No doubt Kagome had been afraid of getting that kind of reaction. No, Inuyasha was solely the one to blame here. He was the one who should have said something. He could pretend to be noble, and say that he didn't want to make her feel like she owed anything like that to him, or push her in anyway after what happened with Naraku, but that wouldn't be the truth. In his heart, he knew that the real reason he had waited until now to tell her that he loved her was because he had been afraid that she would reject him. He had felt like he would have rather stayed silent and never have been with her the way he wanted, than to hear the words that she didn't love or want him coming from her mouth. He was also somewhat afraid of his own feelings; he had never been in love before, and the intensity of what he was feeling scared him somewhat. When combined with his fears over what loving a mortal would lead to, he felt he had good reason for being too scared until now.

Inuyasha was still worried about what loving a mortal would lead to. Unless something came along that was capable of killing him and had the desire to do so, he would live forever. Kagome on the other hand would inevitably die within a few short decades, succumbing to old age if nothing else. Inuyasha had no doubt that their time together would be wonderful, but it would be over far too soon and he would somehow have to go on without her.

Or would he? Maybe he could somehow bribe Yura into releasing Kagome's soul to him after she passed on, maybe she could somehow live with him in the heavens, if not on earth? Sesshomaru had managed to bribe Yura into returning that Rin girl to life after all, and Yura had always said that Inuyasha's hair was even prettier than Sesshomaru's. Something about it having more body or some weird crap like that. Maybe he could even find some way to turn Kagome into an immortal like him? He had never heard of such a thing before, but maybe there was a way. He wouldn't know until he looked into it, he supposed.

It was still not quite dawn and Inuyasha was still deep in his thoughts, when he felt Kagome start to stir in his arms, bringing him instantly back to the here and now. He pushed thoughts of the future out of his mind for now; he would worry about what was to come when it came. For now, he would just enjoy the time he had with the beautiful priestess in his arms, and be happy with all that he had.

Inuyasha couldn't help but smile when he sensed the emotions stirring in Kagome, knowing full well that he had felt the same when he first woke up too. This always happened after he was with someone in this manner. While he could usually only really sense negative emotions in a mortal, and had to be in fairly close proximity to do so, it was different with women he had slept with. He found himself able to sense nearly all of their emotions, the good as well as the bad, and found himself able to do so from far greater distances too. How long this lasted depended on how many times they were together, and could vary between a few days and several months. If they continued to sleep together on a regular basis, Inuyasha believed that it was conceivable that he could very well continue to sense her emotions forever. He fully intended to put that theory to the test with Kagome.

Inuyasha smiled down at his love as she rolled over to look him in the eyes, her eyes reconfirming what his senses were telling him. She couldn't quite believe yet that this was all real, but was desperately hoping that it was. When she looked him in the eyes and finally started to believe that this wasn't a dream, the joy was practically rolling off her in waves. Inuyasha smiled wider and leaned over slightly to give her a gentle kiss on the lips, which she happily responded to.

Reluctantly, Inuyasha pulled away. “Good morning.” He said with a smile. “Sleep well?”

Kagome smiled and nodded, a slight blush that Inuyasha found absolutely adorable splashed across her cheeks, before she moved to bury herself deeper in Inuyasha's arms. Inuyasha happily wrapped his arms tighter around her, holding her to him as he breathed in her wonderful scent.

Kagome felt like she was in heaven, this morning was everything she could ever want. Despite the slight pain she had felt in her lower half as she rolled over, she had never been happier. The man, the GOD she loved, loved her back, and was holding her lovingly in his arms right now. She felt so safe and happy that she could barely believe this, and when she thought about everything she had experienced last night she couldn't help but flush all over. Part of her embarrassed, while most of her just wanted a repeat performance. She blushed even more when she heard her God chuckle under his breath and mutter `later' in her ear, convincing her that he somehow knew what she was thinking.

Suddenly, another, much less welcome thought invaded her mind and she found herself tensing up.

Feeling Kagome suddenly tense up and sensing the fear in her, Inuyasha couldn't help but get worried. “Kagome?” He asked nervously. “What's wrong?”

She couldn't be regretting last night could she? No, he was sensing no regret in her only fear. What was wrong?

“Nothing.” Kagome said, not sure how to say what was bothering her.

“It's not nothing, otherwise you wouldn't be so tense.” Inuyasha said. “Kagome, will you please tell me what's bothering you. I can't help if you won't talk to me.”

Kagome bit her lip. “It… It's just… what are we now?”

Inuyasha frowned, not liking where this was going. “What do you want us to be Kagome? I meant everything I said last night, I love you and I want to be with you. If this is going too fast for you, I'll understand.”

“It's not that.” Kagome said quickly. “I want to be with you too, it's just… well, some people around here already look at me funny because they know Naraku wanted to marry me and I refused. If they find out about last night, they're going to think I've become your whore or something.”

Inuyasha felt a sudden flash of anger at her words. “Who's been treating you like that?” He demanded, fully intending to go and `talk' to them about their attitudes to his love. As of this moment on, Kagome was completely off limits to people like that, as far as he was concerned. Anyone who treated her poorly would have to answer to him.

“It doesn't matter.” Kagome said quickly. She had no intention of telling him that the worst of the lot was right here in the temple. Kikyo had always kept her most biting comments for when the two of them were alone, and Kagome doubted that Inuyasha even knew about them. Kagome wasn't one to tell on people. “But if word got out about what we shared, you know people would look at me differently. Even those who don't think of me as a whore would treat me differently. I'd stop being `Kagome the priestess' and become `Kagome, the girl who slept with Inuyasha'. I'm still new here, I want people to get to know me better as a person before news got out of something like this. I don't want to be treated any differently. Besides, if it did it would cause all kinds of problems for you too. Do you really want the rumours of you being on earth to find a mortal bride to start up again?”

Inuyasha ground his teeth in frustration. He hadn't even thought about those damn rumours at all. Annoying as they would be if they started up again, he honestly didn't care if Kagome was by his side. But she didn't want the word to get out about the two of them, at least not yet. While it hurt him slightly that she didn't want everyone to know about the two of them, he understood where she was coming from. It wasn't that she was ashamed of what they had done, he was certain it was far from it. She simply didn't want to be treated any differently.

Inuyasha took a deep breath. “If you want to keep it a secret, then a secret it shall remain.” He said finally. “Personally, I don't care who knows, but I'll leave the whole thing in your hands.”

“I don't want to keep it a secret forever.” Kagome said. “I just don't want everyone to know yet. I want to know people see me for me first.”

“I'm sure people do Kagome.” Inuyasha said. “But it'll stay between us until you're ready for the rest of the world to know.”

***

Despite he best efforts, Kikyo fell asleep that night, still sitting in her dark corner. When she woke in the morning, it was just before dawn, and she had an awful crick in her neck.

For a moment she wondered where she was and why she was there, when she realised that the door to Inuyasha's room was open, that was what had woken her. Kikyo's blood froze when her God and that whore Kagome walked out together, neither of them noticing her in her corner. They paused at the doorway and spoke for a couple of minutes in voices too low for Kikyo to hear. After talking for a couple more minutes, Inuyasha leaned down to give Kagome a rather provocative kiss. When he finally pulled away, Kagome was sporting a deep blush Kikyo was sure was faked and a smile. Turning away, Kagome headed towards and out the doorway to the courtyard, presumably towards her own room, her movements and manner screaming to Kikyo of a woman who didn't want to be noticed. Inuyasha stood watching where Kagome had been for a few minutes before turning around and heading back into his room. Behind him the doors shut, seemingly of their own accord.

Kikyo sat there silently for a few minutes to be certain that neither of them were coming back before getting up and walking slowly and quietly back to her room, using the hallway to help insure that she would not run into Kagome.

Outwardly, she looked calm, but inward she was seething. So she was right. Her God had slept with that whore, and judging by that kiss he was quite pleased with her skill abed. That bitch, she would pay for this. She wasn't sure how it was Inuyasha had apparently fallen for the slut's charms when she was right there, but she would soon remedy that. She would show Inuyasha, she would show everyone. Before long, she would have Inuyasha begging her to be his bride, and Kagome would be exposed to the world as the little whore that she was. She swore it.

AUTHOR'S NOTES

Okay people, this chapter was the last of the ones that was in my old version, which means new chapters will take a lot longer to come out because I'm going to have to write them from scratch from now on. Just thought I'd give you some warning.
