“Miroku, you came back!” Kagome exclaimed. The sun was beginning to set and the group was beginning to worry about their two friends. “We were worried about you. Right Inuyasha?”
“Keh!” Inuyasha retorted as leaned back against the tree he was sitting under. “Miroku's old enough to make his own decisions. Besides, after having so many girls turn him down on his offer to bear him a child, I wasn't too surprised.”
“Inuyasha!” Kagome stared at him sharply, not wanting to the one word that he dreaded hearing.
“Where's Sango?” The monk questioned after he looked around and saw she wasn't there.
“She never came back,” Shippo stated, leaning against Kagome on the opposite side of where Inuyasha was.
“What do you mean she never came back?”
“She left. After you left, she left and ran away. We figured she'd come back after she calmed down, but no sign of her yet,” informed Kagome.
“And y'all aren't going to look for her?” Miroku asked angrily. Just because he seemed to be on the verge of liking someone else didn't mean he still didn't care for her.
“Yeah, yeah. We're going to look for her. In the morning. When she might be ready to talk to you,” Inuyasha mentioned
“By then something could happen to her.”
“Well Mr. So-Concerned, since it happens to be mostly your fault that she's gone, why don't you go look for her?” Inuyasha said. And before Miroku could respond, Inuyasha snapped, “The rest of us will look for her in the morning. After some of this drama subsides.”
“But—
“Look monk,” Inuyasha said a little irritated, “Sango's a big girl and she can take care of herself. She took care of herself before us, and she'll be able to it after us. I mean, what's the worse that can happen to her? She could run into Naraku, or worse, my brother. I'm sure she'll be fine till we find her. Naraku wouldn't do anything because we have the jewel shards, and my brother wouldn't do anything because all he cares about is getting his little greedy hands on my Tetsusaiga, and that happens to be here, with me!” Inuyasha exclaimed as he ran and jumped into one of the taller trees not to far from camp.
Kagome heard sobbing come from the other side of the tree. Realizing that Shippo was no longer beside her, she walked around the wide tree and saw Shippo crying with Kirara in his lap. “Shippo, what's wrong?” She asked. “You know he's just upset, he doesn't mean what he just said,” she knelt beside the little fox youkai.
“I know, but what if something does happen to her? What if we're never able to kill Naraku? And even if Sango does come back, what will we do about Kohaku?” Shippo asked silently.
“Oh Shippo,” said Kagome silently stroking the top of his head. “Inuyasha is right about one thing. Sango is strong enough to take care of herself. And I'm sure that no matter what happens, She'll be able to hang on until we find her. I promise.” And with that, Kagome slowly picked up both Shippo and Kirara and walked back around the tree.
“Miroku,” she started softly. “I think the rest of us are just going to go to bed a little earlier tonight. We could use the sleep.”
“Oh.”
“There's a little bit of Ramen left. And there's some wood Inuyasha gathered for us while you were gone,” she pointed to a small stack next to one of the trees with her backpack and bow and arrows. “Since it's still a little early, I figured you wouldn't adding some more to the fire before you go to sleep.”
Kagome knelt down and rummaged through her backpack and grabbed a mini lollypop for Shippo and a blanket. It's better than nothing. They walked a few paces away from where Miroku was while still being close enough to the fire. “Kirara,” she whispered as she patted the two-tail's fur. As if Kirara knew exactly what Kagome wanted, she jumped out of her arms and transformed as she landed on the ground. Kagome and Shippo settled against her soft side, as they got ready to unwind from their strange day. She pulled up the blanket around Shippo and herself as Shippo sucked the last bit from his mini lollypop.
Miroku sighed as he walked to the area where Sango had last left her Hiraikotsu. Well at least we know she hasn't left for good, he thought to himself, knowing that she would never go anywhere purposely without it. After he dragged the heavy boomerang over to the tree where the rest of Kagome's things were, he sat down near the fire and ate what was left of the Ramen. The confused monk stared at the sunset as he wondered about everything that had happened that day.
