Juvenile Orion Fan Fiction ❯ Mitsuko Ishida - Mind Breaker ❯ Chapter 1

[ A - All Readers ]
I'm psychic. Everyone in my family is, yet, we don't belong to any Faction. Some claim that we are nothing more than Mind Breakers. Psychics who break the minds of other psychics in order to form a small militia. They call us monsters, using our mental powers as influence over the world. They say that with just a whim alone, we can bring the end of the world. All we need do, is think of our deepest wish, and one of our soldiers will gladly carry it out. They would do so without asking questions. Without feeling regret. Without anything except the need to please the one they call Master.Currently, there are six Factions known. They are the E.R.O., Arayashiki, Erasers, Wiz-Dom, The Polestar Empire, and one that is claimed to have been originated from an ancient and evil ruler - Darklore. The Mind Breakers do not belong to any Faction - they call fighters away from theirs. Any soldiers who come to our calling and stay, are called Traitors and quickly become the target of anyone of their original Faction. In most cases, Death is the punishment. That is why Mind Breakers have chosen to stay silent in this world. We are sideline onlookers in a never ending battle. Common people go on about their daily way of life without even seeing the horrendous battles that occur over their heads and sometimes right in front of them.Mind Breakers call the Battles, Factions struggle to end them. We are hunted and slaughtered. We are the poison of the earth. No matter if our wishes are good or not - we are hated and despised for what we are and what we can do.That is why my family rests in hiding. The children in my family are taught at an early age how to hide what they truly are. Those who are born without Mind Breaking abilities are left in ignorance of who their mother or father truly are. Even twins are kept ignorant if one has the Power and one does not. We keep the Common Ones in ignorant bliss in attempts to keep them safe. The less they know, the less chances of a Faction hunting them down.I am a psychic. My name is Mitsuko Ishida. I have no faction and I am a Mind Breaker. Hidden among the shadows of the Aquarian Age: Juvenile Orion. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------Mitsuko nudge the volume on her CD player, forcing the music to blare into her brain. She chewed on the end of a pencil as she skimmed through the pages of her mathematics book. She remained stretched out on the roof of the school, the sun pouring its warmth over her as she bobbed her feet to the beat of the music. It was quiet here and that was just how she liked it.Alone, Mitsuko had less of a chance of Mind Breaking someone. These days, those of the Factions had learned how to hide their potentials and even pass as Common Folk. It was because of reasons like that that Mitsuko studied in private. She less she socialized, the better."Damn," she grunted out as she increased the volume again, "stop thinking about it, Suki." She ripped the pencil from her mouth as she scribbled a set of numbers on her paper, "Thinking about it will only make you lose focus." She changed her seating until her ankles were crossed underneath her. She rested the book and paper on her knees as she focused on the music and numbers. She glanced down at her watch and sighed, "Only fifteen minutes left for lunch. This is going to be a drag." She closed the math book and tossed it aside, picking up a large American novel from her school bag. She flipped through the pages until her bookmark slipped from its snug hiding place. She pulled the book open as far as the binding would allow, burying her nose deep within its twisting and twining tale.It was a story of dragons and ladies. Of knights and honor. Of tragic villains and happy endings. It was everything that Mitsuko wished her life could be. Especially the Happy Ending. She could never have a Happy Ending. Not until the Aquarian Age was over the and Battles gone forever. But that was something Mind Breakers and Factions alike had been wishing for hundreds of years."It'll never come," she told herself as she turned the page. Her mind instantly became lost in the sea of words that greeted her. She felt herself becoming part of the story, seeing the dragons as they battled in midair, their Masters gripping the reigns to their massive beasts as the world resting in the hands of the evil overlord. She watched from an unseen place as the waters, which were gone for so long, came rushing over the horizon to claim the world that it has lost years ago. The way that the air shimmered with the long awaited souls of the waters. It was indeed something to loose one's self in.A sharp scent tickled Mitsuko's nose, pulling her slowly from the battle. She twitched her nose in an attempt to wave the scent away. Her face twisted into concentration as she tried to focus on the story. She closed the book with a heavily grunt, "I'm sorry," some one said sarcastically, "does smoking bother you?"Mitsuko lifted her angry dark blue eyes to the young teen who stood over her with a smirk. If I hadn't been so focused on the book, I could have sensed him coming and escaped, she told herself. She cursed herself for releasing her guard. She could end up dead if she allowed that to continue."Care for a cigarette?" Mitsuko glared up at the youth. His brown hair and strange purple eyes melded with the sickening smirk on his face as he extended the cheap pack towards her. Mitsuko held up her hand with a shake of her head, "Don't like 'em?""They're not for people like me," she said as she packed her books and stood to her feet. She turned towards him again, slightly caught off guard by how much taller he was than her. She shoved this thought from her mind, face blushing as she shifted her bulging bag, "Those things will kill you some day, you know that, right?"He chuckled rebelliously before stuffing his cigarettes into his uniform pocket, "Not before someone else does," he replied. He took a deep drag from the stick in his mouth then shoved the smoke from his body as he took the white object from his mouth. He looked out over the buildings that seemed to go on forever, "That's usually how it goes with my family."His... family...? Mitsuko looked at the youth with a blank stare. His purple eyes shifted to look at her laughingly, "What's the matter? Am I that nice to look at?" Mitsuko felt her face flush heavily as she turned away."Don't flatter yourself," she spat out sharply before moving past him. I can't stand boys like him!! And what's worse - they're all over this school!! "You're up here everyday," he began. Mitsuko stopped in her walk, "I see you all the time. You just sit and read. Or study, it doesn't really matter which one. You just sit up here, away from everyone else. Why is that?" His purple eyes turned to look at her, a different emotion dancing in their depths. Mitsuko's focus slipped, allowing her mind to read out a little too far. She quickly snapped it back into control before any damage could be done, "Do you just hate people that much?""What does it matter?" Mitsuko asked as she secretly shuffled the aura she had caught from him, "If you see me up here everyday as you say you do, then does that mean you're up here to avoid them, too?" He remained silent, "I thought so," she bowed slightly, "now, if you'll excuse me, I have some studying to do before I go back to class.""Whatever," he replied darkly as he thumped the cigarette away from him. He ground the remains into the cement with his right shoe, "I don't care what you do, bookworm." Mitsuko glanced down at a shimmering spot on his hand, feeling her emotions switch to dread. Arayashiki! Mitsuko instantly turned and fled from what could have become her death.I nearly Mind Breaked a member of the Arayashiki! I almost marked myself for death! She closed her eyes against the fearful thoughts that raced through her mind. This was not the time nor the place to loose control. Especially with an Arayashiki so close by. Who knows how many other Factions have been watching me this whole time!!
