Hitchhike
Tracy waited by the shrine entry for Jiro. She decided to split before sunrise. The other android made it right to her quietly.
“Ready to go?” Tracy asked. Jiro looked at her confused.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“Shhh!” the female android hissed. “We're leaving.” Jiro was still trying to grasp it all.
“But what about Luke and San?” he asked in concern.
“Never mind them!” the female android hissed. “Just come on!” Jiro just stared at her blankly.
“But why?” he asked.
“I'll explain later,” Tracy hissed. “Let's go now!” Jiro hung his head.
“Fine,” he replied. “We'll go.” Tracy nodded at him.
“Good!” she said. Then they left the temple before the sun rose.
Morning came. Luke woke up and looked around. Only San was still sleeping on the temple floor. “Huh?” he thought. “Where did Tracy and Jiro go?” The boy kept looking around. Only San was still sleeping on the temple floor. Then he put two and two together.
“They left us…” he mumbled aloud. “How could they…” Then, a soft sound distracted him. The boy quickly down to see San waking up at his feet. He just couldn't help but to smile. “So cute…” he thought happily. The cyborg looked around slowly. She too was confused.
“Where did Tracy and Jiro go?” she asked. Luke just shrugged.
“Oh…” the girl child replied. Silence passed between them for a moment. San kept looking at Luke.
“So what do Luke and San do now?” she asked. The boy looked at her blankly. He didn't know what to say or how to answer. What could he say? They were in the middle of nowhere. They had no guide. Tracy and Jiro were gone. Luke and San had no idea where on earth they were going. The truth was there. He and San were just lost. Lost with no directions what so ever. What could they do?
“Uh…” Luke said. “Go find them, I guess…” San began to smile.
“Okay!” she called out. Luke began to smile as well. She had restored faith in him again. “She's so cheerful!” he thought happily. “I wish it was really that easy!” Then he rose to his feet briskly.
“Well,” he said cheerfully. “Let's go!”
“Yeah!” San called out. Then, Luke helped her to her feet and they left to find Tracy and Jiro.
The trip wasn't easy. They needed many things. Breakfast was a start. A map was next. Then some clues. And finally a ride out. First was the breakfast. Luke knew there was a dining hall on the grounds of the shrine. So they (or at least he) were spared for the first part. He walked to find a guide. The boy found one on the offering post.
“Got ya!” he called out. Then, he read to himself quietly.
“Dining hall is west of the shrine,” he said. He turned to San.
“Well San,” Luke called out. “Let's go!”
“Yeah!” the cyborg called out. Then, the duo headed west.
The dining hall was warm and cheerful. The nuns and monks were all nice to them. Rice, miso, and fried tofu were for breakfast. San didn't know how to eat or use chopsticks. Luke looked at her concerned.
“What's wrong, San?” he asked. The cyborg looked up at him.
“San doesn't know how to eat.” she said in small voice. “What are these things?” She clacked her chopsticks together lightly. Luke just couldn't help but smile.
“Here,” he replied. “These are chopsticks.”
“Chop-sticks?” the cyborg asked.
“Yes,” he replied. “Now just watch me.” Then, the boy began to eat slowly. San watched his every move closely. She was quick to learn and was soon eating.
“Very good!” he said to her. Then, Luke lightly petted her on the head. The girl child just smiled. Breakfast went on peacefully.
After breakfast, a monk came up to Luke. The boy looked up from his bowl at him.
“Yes?” he asked.
“Are you Luke Manet?” the monk asked kindly.
“Yes sir,” the boy replied. “Why?” The monk reached into his robes and drew out a small card.
“The woman with you and the girl told me to give you this.” he said. He handed it right to the boy. Luke took it quickly and read it to himself. This what she said:

Runt:
Jiro and I went ahead to the next town. It's safer this way. Just take San and follow us. Be as quick as possible.

Luke looked straight at the monk. “When did you get this?” he asked.
“This morning,” the monk answered. “Why?” Luke didn't say anything at first.
“Thank you, sir!” he called out at last. Then the boy grabbed San and headed out of the dining hall to the road.
The highway wasn't an easy place. Much colder than the temple they were at minutes earlier. Luke kept San by his side the whole walk. The rain poured down lightly. Luke had to hold San closer to keep her from getting soaked. She didn't mind. The cyborg was just happy to be with him. Luke was happy that she was happy. But, they needed to get out of the rain really soon. Only one problem: they had to keep moving or get caught. There was only one option to do that.
“San,” Luke spoke up. “We'll have to hitch a ride.” The girl-child looked at him blankly
“Hitch a ride?” she asked.
“Yeah,” Luke replied. San kept looking at him.
“What is that?” she asked naturally. Luke just smiled at her. Her questions made her cute. He paused and turned to her still smiling.
“I'll show you!” the boy answered. Then, he held out his arm and waited. San watched closely. She held out her arm as well.
So far, no one came. Then, a car came… and passed right by them. Then nothing again. Three more cars passed by. Nothing again. Finally, a tofu truck stopped for them. The pair got a good look at the driver. He looked to be about in his early thirties. A thin-looking man with short black hair. His eyes were a deep blue. He was dressed for farm work. The man looked at them closely as well.
“Need a ride?” he asked.
“Yes sir!” Luke replied. The trucker opened his door.
“Hop in!” he yelled. The boy bowed his head.
“Thank you, sir!” he called out cheerfully. Then, the boy and the cyborg climbed into the truck. He closed the door and drove off.
The ride was a nice one. San and Luke sat close to each other the whole time. The driver sand old folks songs from his childhood. He even let them snack on his dried roots. The truck made it to the next town by noon. Luke and San thanked the driver and continued on with their journey hand in hand.

Meanwhile, Tracy and Jiro were waiting in an inn in the same town. Tracy decided to travel separately to keep San safe. Together, they would be caught too easily. Separate, they had a better chance of survival. But then, more baggage would be arriving.
It came when the androids were waiting for Luke and San. A sound outside their door caught their attention. Jiro and Tracy looked up quickly.
“Is it them?” Jiro asked. Tracy shook her head. A pause came to them. Then, both androids rushed to the door.
